Media Monday 080324 - Daily Times Leads Kratovil Bandwagon

Gannett's Daily Times just can't help themselves. Their favorite candidate lost in the GOP primary so they must now resort to front page propaganda in support of their new favorite, Democrat congressional candidate Frank Kratovil. Today's AP article is so riddled with false claims and innuendo that the Kratovil campaign should have been charged for the space.

AP writer / Kratovil shill Kristen Wyatt begins her piece by inferring that Republicans are rushing to, at least listen to Kratovil, if not to necessarily vote for him. Her evidence? Clay Larrimore, a registered Republican in Kent County. Hardly a swarm of GOP grassroots support for Kratovil.

What is most significant is the balance of the article that attempts to take the edge off of Kratovil's true liberalism. According to Wyatt, Kratovil is "hoping to pick up what is now an open congressional seat by striking a moderate tone". Unfortunately for the voters of Maryland's First District, moderation of tone is about all they can expect from Kratovil. He claims that he doesn't support liberal Gov. Martin O'Malley "on everything". That's a pretty safe statement. What policies does he disagree with O'Malley on?

I don't recall Kratovil leading the march against O'Malley's tax increases. I haven't heard Kratovil decrying O'Malley's profligate spending. He certainly hasn't criticized O'Malley's sleazy attempts to illegally provide massive raises to friends and key allies on the state payroll. On what items does Kratovil specifically disagree with his left wing friend?

One of the greatest false inferences told by the AP (and the Daily Times) is regarding Kratovil's heritage:

"Kratovil is trying to play up his Eastern Shore roots in an attempt to peel away Eastern Shore Republicans who routinely voted for Gilchrest."
What Eastern Shore heritage? Kratovil was born and raised in Prince George's County, hardly a bastion of Eastern Shore values. He merely carpetbagged his way up Rt. 301 and across the bridge to set up a run for office.

Buried in that same quote is a blatant attempt to portray Kratovil as some sort of underdog. As Ms. Wyatt has admitted in her own piece, Democrats hold a substantial registration advantage on the Shore and in the First District. Kratovil doesn't need to "peel away Eastern Shore Republicans". He needs to win the votes of First District Democrats. Unfortunately, that may be tough to do.

The First District is more conservative than Maryland as a whole. There is no question that Harris is far more in sync with the District than Kratovil.

The bottom line is that Kratovil needs the help of groups like the AP and the Daily Times to have a chance of getting elected. He needs them to infer that he is a moderate / conservative without actually taking any policy stances. If Kratovil actually claimed some of the stances that are inferred by his friends in the press his money would dry up tomorrow.

  1. Has anyone else had trouble logging into Storychay on the DT website? I have registered 3 times but can never sign on. I would love to reply to the bs these idiots print but they seem to know my intent. I even tried to send an e-mail through the "contact us" link but that also fails.

  2. I have been voting for Democrats for 30 years, but regret the day I pulled the lever for O'Malley. Andy Harris reperesents fiscal responsibility and will get my vote. And this "typical white person" is gonna vote for McCain too.

  5. Anyone who knows politics in District 1 knows that the "Republicans" for KRAPovil breakfast was really a gathering of Democrats. There were reportedly only like 4 R's at the meeting, yet you'd think they had come over en masse if you read the DT.

  6. The Daily Delusional will do whatever it takes to promote their new favorite. They will continue to fabricate stories, lie, and distort facts.
To the DD the end most definitely justifies any means. It's pathetic, obvious and shallow, but what do they have to loose? Not their reputation, they got none.
