LIVE BLOG of Tilghman's State of the City Address

We're trying a little experiment today. At 12 noon we'll begin our first "Live Blog" event - of Salisbury Mayor Barrie Tilghman's "State of the City". We all know the true state of the city, but it might be interesting to see how she'll try to spin it.

You shouldn't need to "refresh" your screen. Readers will be able to comment live (in the "CoverItLive Window), as well as read the transcript later and add your comments through the regular comment section.

Give it a try. If there aren't any technical glitches and ya'll think it's worthwhile we'll try to do more in the future.

  1. Whoo-hoo! That was like people-watching on the boardwalk! Now I'm craving Thrasher's fries!!!
What a waste of perfectly good oxygen other people could be using! She is completely ignorant to what the people in this town need. She has GOT to GO! Where is that petition kid?

  2. Interesting comments were posted. I only heard about half of her garbage (missed the middle part and first few minutes). But I heard enough to see that it's the same old, same old. Her public action groups will be packed with FOB's and could be a source of trouble.

Once again, no real solutions to the problems, which she tries to sweep under the rug, as always.

  4. The mayor used the opportunity to fire a shot across the bow (aka, veiled threat) at Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen for asking questions of staff ("the treatment of staff here in council chambers").

Folks, are you just going to write on a blog, or are you going to actively support the people you voted in?

I'd love to have Campbell and Cohen serve in MY town. You are lucky to have them, but you will lose them to the mayor's character assassination scheme, like that article in the paper today.

    Well?

  5. Let's see....Barrie Tilghman, Doug Church, and Richard Insley v. Debbie Campbell, Terry Cohen, and safe, single family neighborhoods, and government in the sunshine... I know how I'd vote...to bad the people on this blog don't really show up to support them.

  7. The increasing similarity of Barrie Tilghman and Hillary Clinton is absolutely striking. Of course, Barrie has not yet admitted to any mistake.

  8. Just saw a short clip on WBOC news of the mayor during her address and was dismayed to see that apparently she nor her assistants know how to display the American flag. The American flag was on her left and the Maryland flag was on her right. That is wrong. The American flag is always on its own right, meaning that it should be on the right side of the speaker. (Left side of podium from spectators view)

  9. Why on God's green earth would an attorney that is paid by the taxpayers to advise the council, and protect the city's citizens, write legislation that favors landlords instead of taxpayers?

The judge actually said that the legislation was written to protect landlords, not the citizens.

So tell me one more time, what is it that Wilber feels he needs to write legislation that leaves the citizens at a disadvantage?

Give him a one way ticket to Antarctica, Wilber himself is a liability for the city.

  10. Will next years audit and budget come out in time, or will we have to vote before we know about anymore tax increases and pork barrel spending? If the budget had come out on time before the last election the outcome would have definately been different.

  11. 8:09 pm, you got THAT right!

Does the mayor REALLY think that anyone BELIEVES her any more?

Especially after that weasely attack article on Debbie Campbell.

We have the mayor doing weasely things with a weasely lawyer and the council president is LouWeasel.

The Weasel Family. Charming. And an insult to weasels, I know.

Maybe the new zoo director will put in a new exhibit, Mustela salisburicus, and cage 'em all!

  12. Did anyone notice how nervous she was when she recognized the former councilmembers Bob Caldwell, Carolyn Hall, and Frank Himmelright? You would have thought she was seeing ghosts.
