Holy Cow, My Paper Arrived, But Was It Worth The Wait?
While The Daily Times has been struggling to get our papers out, (you know, the ones we PAY for) on a daily basis, mine finally arrived early but I can't read the damn thing!
We need to nickname Greg Bassett the Six Million Dollar Man?
I only buy the Sunday paper (mainly for ads and coupons), but the nearby convienence store did not get the papers delivered until 2:00 yesterday afternoon. After the 2nd trip to the store the owner was apologetic and said "I gotta tell you, none of these papers have any ads or coupons in them!" I wasn't happy but bought one anyway...I like to see who has been married or engaged. LOL But that section was entirely missing from the paper, I couldn't believe it. I realize they probably are working out some problems with the new setup, but come on....
I checked for my Sunday paper until 5:30 yesterday afternoon, but there was no delivery. So I though it would be there this morning with the Monday paper. Got today's, but what happened to yesterday's is a mystery. Wouldn't the carrier have gotten copies of yesterday's, even if they were late?
Joe You are fortunate that you were unable to read the damn thing, because there was not a damn thing to read. I took the time to go through the rag several times to insure I had not skipped over some meaningful piece of news or local gossip, there was none to miss. Lets review the front page of the "Daily Disappointment," with all that is going on in the world and our failing economy, can you believe the above the fold story. The rest of the front page is filled with equally breathtaking information such as City Council to discuss burn ban. I mean come on it ain't like the City Council does not have some significant issues to discuss. Unless course, someone has threatened to burn down the WWTP.The other two stories of interest to all of us in the delivery range of the "DD" are of that which would best be presented in the Delmarva section. Is it,at all, possible that the "DD" is trying to flee Delmarva under the cover of darkness. They most likely took the old press to a hard to find location to minimize prying eyes. There they will produce sub quality papers with employees who know their day's are numbered until the "DD" is dissolved by Gannett. Mr & Mrs Bassettman, and the Immortals will all go into hiding until the sub-prime reign is long forgotten.
My subscription is cancelled today. Let's see a poll on how many are dropping. My reason was the economy....its so bad they can't afford to print a decent paper!
Anon; 1000hrs, I do not believe its entirely the lack of money. Somewhere in the mix of what is causing the failure of the "DD" is the lack of leadership. You do not have to talk with the "Bassettman" and the boys for long to figure out where the problem is.
The Sunday paper was not given to carriers until 10:30am, for those that waited around to get them. Some went home to sleep and probably were never called when the paper was ready. When it was half ready for delivery there were not enough inserts for all of the papers this is why you didn't get your advertisements, coupons, etc. I have waited everyday since they moved to the new location. Everyday, the paper is late and there is some excuse as to why it is late. Yesterday they blamed it on "catastrophic distribution errors". EXCUSE ME??? It is not distribution that is the screw up here, it is the printing. Hiring 25 new people that know absolutely nothing about the machinery or the business is not helping matters. This is one carrier that will not take the blame for their screwups.
Just like the administration they support, they take no responsibility for their actions. They say they do yet they pass it off to what they now call "Distribution Specialists" aka newspaper carriers. One more week of this and they'll be looking for someone to take over my route.
I was at Wawa this morning at 3am and saw (todays?) papers on the counter, they all looked like they had paper jammed in the press (wrinkles, folds, tears, etc) and missing print like you see. Can't imagine anyone acutally buying one at the newsstand the way they looked.
But the biggest thing i noticed was a gaudy big yellow ad sticker covering the front page featured photo, what the heck? who's brilliant idea was that?
I finally received my Sunday paper about 6pm last night. I subscribe to Sundays only because of the coupons and classifieds. This was my first time seeing the 'new and improved' paper in person. My Gawd it sucks!!! The newsletter we put out in high school was more professional! The print is horrible and did anyone else notice how all the pictures are blurry?? Then the writing is so faint, you can't even read it!
No Daily Times paper delivered on Wednesday. On Thursday morning I received my Wednesday paper. On Friday the Daily Times delivered Thursday and Friday together. No paper on Sunday. Received Sunday's paper along with Monday's in the driveway this morning. And we pay for this. Maybe Bassett can go over to Brew River where he can order a nuked steak and wait a day for it.
joe, i found the purrfect use for bassetts newly vamped late everyday daily rag. my kat has been eatin that moist kat food of late and seems to add a brownish tint to the pictures of which every other paper i have seen has a weakish tranparent image. maybe she can get a job on the press.also the reason its late is there scooping you gettin the news keep up the fine work!

ReplyDeleteMy Sunday paper rolled in around 5:00 yesterday. After reading it, I bowed my head in silence for the tree that gave it's life in vain.

If you cancel, do you get money back for the remaining months of your subscription or do they keep it?
ReplyDeleteAt least you got your sunday paper
ReplyDeleteI did not get one yet.

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure when yesterdays paper came, but it was there at 11am when I went out to get it. All ads/coupons were there.
ReplyDeleteTodays is perfect, not like yours Joe.
