You Do The Math

Since no one can get an answer, let me see what I can do here. After all that discussion last night we came to realize there was almost a 10% cushion in the City's Bank Account after ALL is said and done. I could go on and on and on about what they discussed, however, there's about a 10% cushion of almost $4 million dollars.
The City's total Budget is around $42 million dollars. Now I have been in business for many years Ladies & Gentlemen and let me assure you, people are IN BUSINESS FOR PROFIT, a Municipality is NOT! So IF a City/Municipality has around a 10% cushion at the end of the year, something is VERY F'd up! Not according to Pam Oland and the Mayor.
You see, the way "I" see it is, there was $10,200,000.00 floating around, not $4,000,000.00. However, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and let these liars have it their way and we'll take this to the end and you'll still see I'm right and they're wrong.
Now there's no question they have around a 10% cushion at the end of the year, (according to their own numbers). In business, if you have a good year you're working off a 2% to 5% Net Profit. Any good business person would agree with that. Some do make more, (I do) but that is the National Averages.
That being said, if you have a really bad year, what do you do? You go to the Bank and ask for a loan. Dee, Dee, Deeee, that's exactly what the CITY should be doing, right? NOPE! They want to borrow money no matter what anyway. WHY? So they can pay their Buddies back for Developer Reimbursements and so forth and at that point one has to wonder, can funds be funneled back to others and fraud be an issue? ABSOLUTELY! There's always that possibility. Now I'm NOT suggesting this has happened, you do understand that, right? I mean, God Forbid some local Condos end up in a politician's child's name, or their parents or in laws, you get my drift.
Nevertheless, for some odd reason the City is sitting on a 10% cushion, Developers are getting their reimbursements and WAIT A MINUTE, THERE'S MORE! Then there's a 14% TAX INCREASE to boot! WTF!
So they're running a business that's NOT supposed to be for profit, yet they have 10% floating around, (I think more) and then they raise the taxes 14%. That now makes their profit margin 25%!!!!!!
OK, I've seen just about enough, haven't you? It truly is that simple. The Daily Times won't come up with that math because they don't understand it. I mentioned it to Comegys last night and the Dee, Dee, Deeee said, well we have to come up with the funds to pay all those raises. I said, they're raises Gary, NOT SALARIES! You see, the raises are quite small. The City's not paying out more than $1,000,000.00 in pay increases, it's that simple. You have to know what you're doing and talking about. When you're paying someone $10,000.00 a year and you give them a 4% raise, you're then paying then $10,400.00 a year. Even if EVERY Police Officer got a $10,000.00 a year raise, that's only a $800,000.00 increase and that's NOT 10% of the entire budget, Gary. Not to mention a 14% tax increase.
Anyhow, someone from the outside needs to be hired to help at least the Council to better understand the only reason Pam Oland and Mayor Tilghman are doing what they're doing is to BORROW MORE MONEY! It's all about $10,000,000.00 Fire Stations and $800,000.00 Fire Boats. Barrie Tilghman wants to go to these Mayor Conventions and brag about the financial status of the City like she did last night. That's right, last nights meeting wasn't important enough for Barrie to be there. She doesn't want to face the firing squad and that's yet ANOTHER reason why they cut the last meeting short. Barrie Tilghman is no dummy like Gary Comegys is.

  1. Hey, I just noticed all those bottles of "bottled water" on the table. What's wrong with the city water? I thought we touched on this subject months ago also.

What did Lame Louweasal have to say in her presentation last night?

You are right----something is stinking in the bury.

  2. Your whistling to the wind; even though you are entirely correct. Certainly any business person knows you are right. Unfortunately, the people (voters of Salisbury) who put these city officials in office don't care. It is very obvious because they do it over and over. This is why you have the situation you have now. If the voting public would wake up and realize how much they are being ripped off maybe there would be a change. The business community has talked about the problem for years, but most of the business owners can't even vote in Salisbury, because they don't live in the city limits. Hopefully, and I mean hopefully, the voting public will literally wake up and get these people out of office. The figures don't lie. SALISBURY VOTERS you are getting ripped off by your elected officials and they don't give a "darn" whether you care or not. If this situation doesn't wake someone up I don't know what will.

  3. I have been told that Barrie Tighlman is one of the most popular Mayors in the region among her peers.
She very well respected with other Mayors across the country, yet her own people hate her.
Wonder what we could learn from that little tidbit?

  4. It's not surprising that Barrie is well-respected by peers who listen to what she has to say about her city, her accomplishments, herself. When unchallenged by actual facts, she spins many an impressive yarn. In point of fact, however, the only people who could respect her are those who do not live in Salisbury.

  5. Who have you been talking to? I've spoken with Mayors about her and have been told she's a joke. They have no respect for her.

  6. Anon 8:18 if you noticed all of those water bottles maybe you noticed Pam Oland's bottle had something red in it, certainly not water.

Anon 9:03 Surely you jest. Ask any mayor or anyone in the MML their opinion of Barrie Tilghman. I assure you, it is not favorable.

Suggest you ask present and former members of the Wicomico County Council what they think of Barrie. Ask Rick Pollitt, too. I'm told that "it's unanimous" my dear.

  9. Literally thumbing the city charter is even worse than thumbing the dirty dozen, it's also thumbing the founding fathers that created the charter. Do we have to put that in writing? What a minute it already is, read the charter and live within those boundaries people, if not this will never end, at least until election time.

  10. Mr. Chaney, as much as I respect your opinion and your right to it I must disagree with your statement of "read the charter and live within those boundaries people, if not this will never end, at least until election time."

We must insist, demand the resignation of the mayor now. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

  11. resignation is too little...a recall is in order!!!

  12. I have been teaching my exploratory subjects class about elections, and one of the comments that I use is that "people get the government they deserve". Recall, criminal prosecution, whatever....someone needs to step up and run for mayor. We need to get together and put this "mare" out to pasture.

  13. To the anonymous poster talking about the business community...

Let's see the business community of the Chamber and the Greater Salisbury Committee step up and stop supporting landlord and developer rape of the city, step up and stop supporting the mayor you profess to hate.

You may not have a vote, but you can put your money behind candidates who will create the kind of city you seem to be talking about here. But if the only business that is welcome are the landlords and developers, the rest of the business community will falter because it's actually killing the market you need!
