Where Was Mike Pretl When The WWTP Dumped Sewage Into River Recently?
If any of you have had the opportunity to meet Mike Pretl, he's a decent guy but all in all he is an environmental extremist.
As I encourage everyone their right to freedom of speech, today Mike writes a Letter to the Editor questioning Andy Harris and his environmental representation towards the Eastern Shore.
First of all Mr. Pretl, aren't you from the other side of the Bridge as well? That being said, I respect your concerns for the Eastern Shore and I applaud it. However, just because you're from across the Bridge doesn't mean you will not care or do not care. Washington, Baltimore and Annapolis are all surrounded by bodies of water, all of which they take VERY seriously. They may not have 20 or 30 years ago but just research the taxes over the Bridge and you'll quickly see they do NOT take the environment lightly and this kind of practice can only help those on the Eastern Shore.
I should add, I like Mr. Kratovil. He too is a very decent man. However, HE HAS NO TRACK RECORD, NOTHING! You don't take someone right out of school and turn them into a Police Officer without going through the Police Academy. Sending Frank Kratovil to Congress would certainly be a HUGE mistake, seriously. Like I said, he's a nice guy and all but he has absolutely NO experience.
That being said, Andy Harris has been in the Maryland State Senate for 9 years now. He has a proven record and that's why he won the Republican nomination, even beating out an 18 year incumbent. Everyone knows there's all kinds of FLUFF in bills that come through the Senate and Andy has done the Citizens of the state of Maryland a service like no other.
Right now this has become a race about the Republicans verses the Democrats and quite frankly, that's a shame, IMO. It should be about who's the best man for the job. IF I truly believed that Frank Kratovil was in fact the best man for the job, I swear to you I'd support him. No track record, no support. Sorry Folks, that's just how I feel.
Mike, where were you when the Salisbury WWTP had yet another big spill? I didn't see a Letter to the Editor from you then?
Sir:
ReplyDeleteDo you suppose that Pretl is a FOB?
Pretl only steps forward when something threatens his area of Foxchase.
ReplyDeleteWhere is the WET in all of these spills into the river? If they can't fight the good fight they don't need to fight at all. Don't come out during election campaigns spouting off about all you do, there is far more that you don't do. The river is dying and you are doing what? Sitting in front of your fireplace down in Foxchase, I presume.
On the Bill Reddish show this morning Frank Kratovil said he would welcome a face-to-face with Dr. Harris on Bill's show. That would be boffo.
ReplyDeleteMike doesn't even live in Foxchase anymore. He has been a big factor in getting the Wicomico Neighboorhood Congress up and running. The next meeting will center on enviornmental issues.
ReplyDeleteWhere was Mike Pretl and WET when the Salisbury City Council majority and the Mayor didn't care about putting environmental protection on that huge pipe they're going to build on Waverly into the downtown river?
ReplyDeleteCampbell and Cohen implored the others to explore protecting the river before agreeing to the pipe. Why not do both, relieve the neighborhood yards AND protect the river.
The others would have none of it, and Pretl and WET did nothing to back Campbell, Cohen or the environment.
Dude hes totally giving the camera the finger in that one. EXCELLENT SHOT!
ReplyDeleteJoe, is that Shit Miester Saluting you?
ReplyDeletePretl is only concerned with developement close to his home. That is why he was a big fan of the high density project at the old mall. Anything to keep someone from building close to his home.
ReplyDeletePretl, did anyone tell you that your breath stinks? How about getting those teeth fixed before they all rot out.
TO ALL:
ReplyDeletePretl has relocated from that epitome of urban sprawl ("Foxchase") to a home on the bank of the Nanticoke River in the hamlet of Riverton (between Route 50 and Sharptown). It's ironic that both his former and current residence typify the kind of development that he purports to oppose.
And on the Neighborhood Congress, please give credit where it's due -- to Jim Ireton.

Thanks for that update Jim.
He was also in favor of the high density project at the Old Mall. Probably liked the Blackwater refuge development as well. Yeah, let's make Salisbury the Glen Burnie shithouse of the eastern shore!
ReplyDeleteThe Chesapeake Bay's health has been in decline for a lot longer than Pretl has been a so called environmental extremist.
The bay's health was my main factor in a grade for Gilchrest's reign, and it wasn't good! Fish with sores on them, dead fish floating belly up. A huge decline in the blue crab population. Most crabmeat comes from Indonesia now, aren't you proud Mr. WET?
Who is raising their kids to be the next generation of watermen? Nobody because it has no future at the rate we are going.
Anonymous 12:57...LoL are you calling him a NIMBY? Hahahaa
Joe, thank you for the kind words and flattering photo. If you can have it blown up and framed, I will send a copy to my 92-year-old mother in Glen Arm.
ReplyDeleteWith respect to the recent sewage spill -- WET representatives denounced the last five or six spills, to no avail. As you know, the County is building a new facility at incredible cost to County taxpayers, which will be near capacity when it comes online. What is the solution? Certainly not more septics, or package sewage plants scattered throughout the County. How about we knock down the Bay Bridge, to keep out the likes of me and my family.
Seriously, though, one has to pick your battles; and as an activist lawyer for nearly 40 years, I find damn few that can be won. A number of us in WET looked hard at the 72-inch discharge pipe planned for the Wicomico in Salisbury. If anyone has a legal strategy they believe will be succesful, please come forward so we can consider it.
We are going forward to Circuit Court next month with the first legal appeal in anyone's memory, from a subdivision decision of the Planning and Zoning Commission (via the Board of Appeals) involving a development called Deer Creek, off Morris Road. While the "cluster" designation seems unwarranted, we are also challenging several of the P&Z procedures which seem stacked in favor of developers. Wish us luck; or more helpful, join us in some of these battles.
Your readers are encouraged to see "what we are up to" by viewing our website at www.wicomicoenvironment.org. It is perhaps more fun to sit on the sidelines and pick on our lack of accomplishments. However, WET volunteers contribute several hundred hours of their time each month to what we conceive as the public interest. Come help us, if you agree; if not, then show us where we go astray.
Which brings me back to Andy Harris. I find it ironic that the bloggers criticize WET and others for not taking effective steps to address perceived wrongs in our community; and yet you seem to line up behind the likes of Harris, who bring nothing but negativity, and vote consistently to deny us the tools and the bucks to do anything about these problems. So it goes.
Fondly, Mike Pretl
