Bad Accident on Rt. 50 In The Pittsville Area

I don't have full details yet but the Md. State Police Medivac Unit is on its way to the scene where allegedly someone was ejected from a vehicle in an accident. More to come....

  2. MSP helicopters don't mean shit in the local area. Just shows that the Fire and EMS providers are incompetent. They think it looks cool having a big helicopter land on the road and put on a big show for the public. Case in point someone ejected from a vehicle. The ambulance gets there and finds a patient lying on the ground. Calls for medevac helicopter. Call is made to Syscom. Syscom calls Trooper 4. Crew of Trooper 4 has to wake up, get dressed and get their gear on. They have to start up the LawnBoy riding lawnmower to tow the chopper out of the hanger. Once out of the hanger they have to start the rig and wait for it to warm up in the 30 degree weather then make sure they are clear for takeoff. They then have to find a safe and appropriate landing zone. They then have to get out of the helicopter and locate the patient. A full patient assessment is done by the chopper medic and a treatment decision is made. Chopper takes off for PRMC and has to make a safe landing at the hopital, now on the roof. The patient is then taken off the medivac and has to be transported down the elevator and through the halls to the emergency room where he finally reaches the ER team.

Where is the patient while the incompetent Fire and EMS providers are waiting for the helicopter? Still lying on the ground? I hope not. In the back of the ambulance? If so why don't they transport the patient immediately to the hospital? How long does it take to get get to PRMC from the Pittsville area. If that patient was found lying on the ground and they waited for the helicopter to arrive then those providers need to have serious charges brought against them. These actions are negligence at its best. Another example of why the county needs better control of the fire and EMS service or cut off all funding. You don't see the better counties forking out that kind of tax money to allow this kind of freelancing at the expense of tax payers.

This statment in no way reflects the competence of the MSP Paramedics as they are some of the best providers in the state. Psst, don't tell anyone, but I may be one myself.

  3. FIRST OF ALL. WERE YOU THERE . IF SO YOU KNOW THE PATIENT THAT WAS POSSIBLY GOING TO BE FLOWN WAS HEAVILY TRAPPED. 32 MINUTES TO EXTRICATE THE PATIENT TO BE EXACT. IF YOU WOULD LOOK AT PICTURES OF SCENE AND THE VAN THE PATIENT WAS IN YOU WILL FIND OUT HOW MUCH WORK THE RESCUE CREWS HAD TO GET THE PATIENT OUT.THE 1 PATIENT THAT WAS SUPPOSEDLY EJECTED . WAS NOT . I REPEAT NOT EJECTED. THAT PATIENT WAS OUT OF VEHICLE . ON THEIR OWN POWER. ALLBE IT TAKEN PRI 2 DUE TO MECHANISM TO PRMC. NOW BACK TO YOUR COMMENT ON WHY TROOPER 4 WAS REQUESTED. DUE TO THE PROLONGED RESCUE AND THE EXTEME POSSIBILITY OF THE PATIENT BEING TAKEN DIRECTLY TO SHOCK TRAUMA FROM THE SCENE. TROOPER 4 WAS ON GROUND WELL WITHIN 15 MINUTES OF BEING CALLED. THE FLIGHT MEDIC WAS ON SCENE TALKING TO THE PARAMEDIC AND ASSESSING THE EXTENT OF PATIENTS INJURIES. AFTER REMOVING THE PATIENT AND DOING A BETTER SURVEY OF INJURIES THE PARAMEDIC DTERMINED THAT WITH THE EXTENT OF INJURIES AND THE EQUIPMENT THAT WAS NEEDED TO STABILZE THE PATIENT ALONG WITH THE ROOM NEEDED FOR SUCH EQUIPMENT. ALONG WITH TALKING TO THE FLIGHT MEDIC AND HIM SAYING IT WOULD TAKE 10 MINUTES TO GET PATINET TO PRMC. THE PARAMEDIC DETERMINED TO TAKE PATIENT BY GROUND WITHIN 8 MINUTES AND HAVING MORE ROOM TO STABILIZE THE PATIENT ALONG WITH ADDITIONAL PROVIDERS THAT ARE ABLE TO RIDE THE AMBULANCE INSTEAD OF THE HELICOPTER , WHERE YOU ARE EXTREMELY LIMITED IN ROOM AND THE NUMBER OF PROVIDERS THAT CAN GO IN HELICOPTER.(2 MAX DUE TO SPACE AND WEIGHT RETRISTIONS), IT WAS DETERMINED TO TRANSPORT BY GROUND.END RESULT PATIENT ARRIVED AT PRMC ALIVE, STABLE AND IN GOOD HANDS OF THE TRAUMA TEAM AT PRMC . SO UNTIL YOU KNOW ALL FACTS BY BEING THERE FIRST HAND SAVE YOUR OPINIONS FOR YOURSELF AND SAVE ALL OF US THE DRAMA AND NEGATIVE STATEMENTS DIRECTED AT THE LOCAL VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER AND EMS THAT PROTECT YOU AND ALL THE NEARBY AREA 24/7 REGARDLESS OF WEATHER OR TIME OR SITUATION. THIS IS WRITTEN BY SOMEONE THAT WAS THERE.

You have a lot of balls. These men and women are some of the highest quality people you could ever hope to meet. I know many of them from both responding stations and I hope that if, by some terrible twist of fate, any of my friends or family members should ever need emergency medical care, it would be provided by one of these fire companies. It is due entirely to their competence and professionalism that many, many people are alive today. I can't understand why you would say some of the things you did unless you are either jealous of these professionals or you have some deep rooted hatred for the Fire and EMS service providers.

You make such a big deal of the fact that the mechanical has to be started and the chopper pulled out of the hanger....it's done all the time. That's how it works. That's why Trooper 4 is there.

  7. ANON 933 WOULD BE PISSING AND MOANING IF WE DIDN'T CALL AND THE PATIENT DIDN'T MAKE IT. PEOPLE LIKE YOU NEED TO SHUT UP. BUT BEFORE YOU DO TELL ME HOW COUNTY CONTROL OVER FIRE AND EMS WOULD BE BETTER?

  8. Look how unprofessional the poster is when they state how they plan to use large gauge iv’s on injured state troopers! This alone should be a reason to go to paid fire/EMS in Wicomico County. The poster also shows a total lack of knowledge of the requirements to be an MSP Flight Paramedic. Three years of ALS field EMS experience is one of the requirements along with being a State Trooper. This requires an education, physical fitness and professionalism. The requirements needed by people who post such things as using large gauge iv’s are: pick up truck (jacked up with load muffler is preferred), no college, overweight, camo clothing and love of any program on Country Music Television.

  9. How county control over Fire & EMS would be better:
    *Professionalism
    *Better Education of the firefighter/EMT
*Less firehouses with less duplication of under used equipment
*More / better qualified responders on a responding truck. (listen to the scanner when a unit makes a response now. You will here a truck responding with 1 and 2 people on board. The one or two may not be able to wear SCBA due to fitness problems or training. Read the newspaper article a few months ago about the Ocean City Fire Department. Out of the 200 plus volunteer members only a few met the requirements to wear SCBA and enter a burning building. My guess it’s the same in the Wicomico departments.

What you get now is 5 fire departments showing up to a fire with a large amount of equipment. You need that many because 1 or 2 people maybe on each truck and most of those responders don’t make the fitness standards to enter the fire.

Look up SkyNews and read about the large fire in London today, larger than the recent Cambridge fire, it only took 20 fire trucks and 100 fire fighters.

Bob, Many are incompetent. Goes to show that you have no clue what you are saying. Just because you "know" someone doesn't mean they are competant providers. What training and experience do they have. I am sure you know all about that. RIGHT!

Hey how convenient for you to drop a name this time...if you know what I mean. ;-)

  11. First of all I am a volunteer in ocean city. and those 200 plus volunteers include everyone from active to life member. So before you pass judgment you should get you facts straight. Secondly almost 90% of our active roster are willing and able to go into fires and do interior operations. Now that being said there are several volunteers in every company that may or may not make the health standards for interior ops but there is always a place and a job for them on fire seens. And Some people should remember that being paid does not make you better...it just makes you paid. So who cares. As long as someone shows up to your house when its on fire and gets the job done.

  12. First thing is please call WOR-WIC Community College and register for a basic English course. Please make sure it includes grammar (city. and) and spelling (“seen” should be spelled SCENE). I guess this is not required to attend fire training.

90 percent of the volunteers maybe willing but they are most certainly able to do interior fire operations. This is from the study the city had done. This is a matter of life and death. It’s not about providing a tax supported club. Why do you think the Town of Ocean City wants to move the volunteer to West Ocean City?

  13. AND YOU REALLY BELIEVE YOUR GOING TO GET “REAL” PROFESSIONALISM FROM MEN AND WOMEN WHO ARE ALREADY PROFESSIONALS BECAUSE THEY ANSWER TO A GOVERNMENT AGENCY. THAT MAKES NO SENSE. ARE YOU BLIND TO ALL THE PROBLEMS WITH THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AROUND HERE NOW? AND YOU WANT THEM TO BE IN CHARGE OF US WHEN YOU ARE ON YOUR ASS DYING. YOU’RE PLAIN STUPID IF YOU DO. AS FAR AS EDUCATION ALL TRAINING IS DONE BY THE SAME AGENCY. MFRI FOR FIRE AND MIEMSS FOR EMS. SO EVEN IF I AM A VOLUNTEER I GO TO THE SAME SCHOOL AS THE CAREER STAFF. AND YOU SAY LESS FIRE STATIONS AND LESS EQUIPMENT. DO YOU THINK WHEN YOUR MOM, WIFE OR SISTER HAS HER LIFE ON THE LINE, LESS IS MORE? LOOK HER IN THE EYE AND TELL HER THAT YOU IDIOT. THIS AREA HAS GROWN OVER THE LAST 20 YEARS WITH LEAPS AND BOUNDS AND YOU THINK WE SHOULD DOWNSIZE OUR FIRE AND EMS. YOU ARE PLAIN STUPID.

  14. Millsie,
    Please register for the same WOR-WIC English course as the other poster was referred to earlier today. You need help with what makes up a full sentence and a fragment. Then you can move on to punctuation. That is a big word for this: , . ! ? ( ) ;
Have you ever heard the phrase “quality over quantity”?

  15. Whom ever is posting the responses that are firing these people up you don't need to respond every time. Just let these idots post a few responses to your valid points about the need for a paid fire & ems. The responses they make more than prove your point about how they think, act and level of education / professionalism. I'm not a fire fighter but I am a concerned citizen.

  16. Anon2:55,
Please register for English 101 as well.

In this case "may be" is the correct usage as it is a verb, not an adverb. A comma, (the big punctuation word) should be used after the word willing.

    Thanks

  18. I have been ready everyones comments, and as a mother I wonder what difference does it make how many fire departments show up on a call as long as they are getting the job done and saving lives. Also what difference does it make if someone does not spell correctly as long as he there to save lives everyday and does. In my area we all depend on our volunteers to be there when we call. I sleep well knowing my local fire department is always there no matter what. My husband runs out of the house everytime theres a call. Not knowing what he is going to step in to. Putting he life on the line for others with out compensation except knowing that that he is doing a good service. My advice grow up, we have a lot to be thankfull for. Count your blessings, it could be you that is saved by a volunteer next.

  19. First of all I do realize that 90% of the guys in ocean city may not be able to do interior work. and I do admit that. but for the most part about 60 to 70% is. Also only a select few would like to see the vollies move west. And this will be my final response.
