The Audit Nightmare

Although Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollitt has hired the accounting firm, Twilley, Rommel & Stephens to help save the day and hopefully uncover the balance of any wrong doing, WHAT IF ONE OF THE PEOPLE/COMPANIES ARE ONE OF THEIR CLIENTS?

I was in a deep conversation with a good friend of mine last night where we were discussing this exact issue and he said, why the hell did they hire someone local? They should have reached out across the Bridge to a firm who would be completely neutral? I couldn't agree more.

I placed a call to the Executives Office and brought up this concern, one in which hadn't been thought of. There was a silence once I mentioned it. I then suggested that IF there are ANY businesses involved, they should get written confirmation from this firm stating they do not, nor ever have done ANY work for these companies. The better answer would be, hire someone else outside the Eastern Shore. Someone who wouldn't give a damn either way what anyone thought of their end result findings.

  1. Totally agree Joe, an independent, non-shore auditor is needed in this case!

  2. I cannot scream this any louder than I already have.

    "Forensic Auditor with litagation experence."

If the County Exec.and the Sheriff allow this to get screwed up they will both make Davis Ruark look like a potential Supreme Court Justice.

Let assume for a minute the local auditor comes back with and inconclusive finding or no finding of fault, everybody will believe it is,yet, another cover up.

Rick, trust me on this one you need to step back take a deep breath and "DO THE RIGHT THING" if you do not you will forever be haunted by this.

  3. To get an outside auditor is what Wicomico County owes the taxpayers...anything less is a smack in the face. This theft has grown so much over the past weeks you can't trust anybody here in this county...Rick should no that!

  5. I agree. This is a no brainer! we should have a non-shore firm which specializes in municipal audits.

  6. Rommel and Twilley will lie for the right price, they are sleazy in their own right. Come on Rick, don't be just another mouthpiece for the Salisbury elite.

  7. Rick, get rid of some of the dead wood you brought on board with you and use their salaries to pay for and outside of the Eastern Shore audit.

  8. anonymous 1:14,

Say that with a name behind it. Other wise, you're nothing short of an anti Albero Blogger stirring up the BS.

So you know Ladies & Gentlemen, I will moderate any more comments such as the one above, UNLESS you put your name to it.

Why would ANYONE make such a statement? That's BS!

  9. Definitely get a forensic auditor with litigation against municipalities experience. Have we signed a contract with the other ones yet?

  10. While Ed Rommel and his firm are competent I have to agree and cannot stress enough the need for FORENSIC auditors to come in from out of town, someone with no ties to the shore or you will never hear the end of this, especially come election time. Besides all of that, your conscience won't let you rest until you are at the very root of the problem. I take nothing away from RTS accounting firm and their auditing abilities. I'm just saying it's high time someone covered the collective asses of all the citizens in this county. Look out for us for a change instead of those that have proven repeatedly they are not to be trusted.

    FORENSICS, FORENSICS, FORENSICS.

  11. Why in the world does Davis Ruark need a county car in the first place? Just how many crime scenes does he personally inspect -- enough to justify a car??? It would be interesting to know just how many county cars are floating around where they are not needed. There is a hefty price tag attached to a vehicle.

  12. need forensics for the city too

  13. the sign in the picture in Pollits office (by his desk) was placed on one end of our street . I hope private money paid for that because that is a huge waist of taxpayer money as well . If Rick would just look around and start to cut out some of this kind of bullsh!t spending then he would find more money to put into our schools . He has been in office long enough that audits like he is now going to do should have already been done . But he is going to try to come in here after this has been exposed and make himself out as the hero . Instead of firing Rai he shuold have been the lamb and RESIGNED . After all he's the top dog . I hope the good folks of this county are able to see through his load of CRAP in the next election .

  14. i want to know why other accounting firms where not called or asked to bid on this audit. I talked to my accountant earlier and ask why his firm did not bid or get it. He stated we were not asked. Just makes me wonder even more how big this really is.

  15. Why are you people surprised Rick did not hire an independen non-shore auditor? Look at Rick's history, he is a government beaurucrat that when faced with scandel or anything that might look bad on him, he races to try to look good and in the process screws it all up.

  16. I saw that sign too, I asked the county for a slow children at play sign several years ago and was told that they arent allowed. How is this sign allowed. It is ugly and a waste of money. What is going on????????

  17. "The Audit Nightmare"

No, Rick Pollitt is the NIGHTMARE!! Another mistake. Rick, I want my vote back.

  18. I have nothing against Twilley, Rommel, Stephens. But now that folks are asking questions, I am surprised Pollitt didn't bid this out. I know that takes longer, but wouldn't that have been worth it to ensure integrity of process? Was TRS the firm that Fruitland used while Pollitt was in charge of things?

I'm not accusing, just asking, because all the questions here made me ask some of my own.

  20. Go to www.wicomicocounty.org and send Rick a message that you want an outside auditor. I even went as far as to tell him I didnt' care if he has already signed a contract with Rommel, Pay them and hire someone else. I encourage everyone to do the same. He needs to hear how the taxpayers really feel, otherwise we will get more of the same.

  21. This animal just gets bigger and bigger. I will give benefit of the doubt to Rick as it appears this has been going on for a very-very long time.

I have full faith and trust that Mike Lewis and the WBI won't let anyone tangled up in this mess get by without questioning, scrutiny or arrest if appropriate. We are talking felony theft here and heads will have to roll.

I do think it is in the best interest of the taxpayers that the county hire an auditor that no chance has any contacts of the alleged or future alleged suspects.

Not knowing where this may go as the size of this is astounding, the people need an auditor that we can rest assured that there are no ties that bind, get it over with and get on with business and make the people feel comfortable with the results. The results may not make us feel comfortable, but lets do it once, the right way and leave no stones unturned.

These comments in no way reflect any adverse opinion of Twilley and Rommel on my part. If we are going to do it, let's get it right the first time and leave no doubts in the minds of the taxpayers.

  22. When the insurance pays off on all this theft will the money go back to the taxpayers that it was stolen from? When can I expect my rebate?
