You Can Make More Money As The Director Of The Zoo!

"I would like to draw your attention to the advertisement placed in the Daily Times today, (Sunday Jan. 27 '08) for Chief of Security. I have it from several reliable sources that 3D composed this little gem himself. If you read it, you will discover that it is 3D's opinion that someone straight out of college with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or "related field" has sufficient credentials to be responsible for the "strategic and tactical management and supervision of all daily operations and security related issues . . . " in WCDC. The ad reads, "Requirements: B.A. in Criminal Justice or related field OR ten years experience . . . " If ever we needed evidence that this man has been educated WAY beyond his intellectual means, here it is in black and white. On top of his first huge and glaring mistake, he then goes on to confuse the skills of Law Enforcement, who are trained to apprehend criminals, and Corrections Officers, who are trained to deal and handle inmates on a daily basis. The two are not interchangeable. This advertisement shows as many of 3d's other decisions have in the past, that he has no idea what he's doing and that he should never have been placed in the position of Director of WCDC." 3D is Director Doug Devenyns.

That being said, you could work for another lockup business where inmates die by the hundreds each year and they don't talk back. That's right, the Salisbury Zoo will pay $66,000.00+ per year and the City couldn't care less what happens to their inmates, the animals. Perhaps these guys are underpaid, or is the City paying too much to babysit the Zoo?

  1. That advertisement had to get the okay from the County to be published. Now we know the county's opinion of those working at WCDC as well, and perhaps why THEY hired someone totally lacking in security experience as their Director of WCDC.

I can't speak for anyone else, but doesn't it seem that these very questionable requirements are skewed toward hiring someone very specific for this position? I think ol' 3d already has his choice selected - which means he's made yet another promise to someone.

  2. Compared to the six figure salaries that Matt Creamer and Gary Mackes are getting? What is wrong with this picture? And on another topic did anyone see that Shanie's house was foreclosed on Delaware Avenue? Did she actually live there or did she live on Jersey Road, because she more than likely defrauded her district voters.

  3. Ghost10:27am,THEY HAVE CAPTS/MAJORS MAKING THAT MUCH NOW.HE WANTS TO BRING A NEW COLLEGE GRAD WITH NO EXPERIENCE TO SUPERVISE THESE STAFF AND INMATES.HE HAS A SPECIFIC PERSON IN MIND AND I BET YOU IT WILL BE THE INTERNAL INVESTIGATOR HE HIRED EARLIER. A RETIRED ST. POLICE OFFICER WITH NO CORRECTIONS EXPERIENCE.ITS A NO WIN SITUATION FOR THE HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD CORRECTIONAL STAFF.

  5. Anon 10:44, my jail sources have told me that Mr. Hardin firmly swears he wants no part of the Chief of Security position. Of course, other sources tell me of Hardin's many attempts to snake his way up the chain of command, in which he is not a part. Since I've also been told he's hanging with Ms. Shockley, who everyone compares to a snake, I'm beginning to suspect you may well be correct. The problem Hardin and 3D are going to have with their little scheme is that there are people in WCDC who far outstrip Hardin in qualifications. If these people are ignored, fecal matter will fly from here to the state level, perhaps even the federal level if necessary. It's getting to be show-down time from what I'm hearing, and no one out there is willing to back down.

The "games" are about to begin.

  6. Maybe these guys are indeed underpaid. If you have a guy like that running the place, a lot of things are now starting to make sense. Maybe that Dickerson guy was right to do what he did if he has a boss like that.

  7. ANON 104PM, DOMESTIC CHARGES I BELIEVE CAUSED HIS DEMISE.BESIDES DDD DID NOT HAVE TO ADVERTISE IN THE DAILY TIMES. WASTE OF MONEY. USUALLY THOSE POSITIONS ARE IN HOUSE ADVERTISEMENTS AND FILLED FROM WITHIN.HE HAS QUAILTY STAFF TO FILL THIS SPOT.HOWEVER ITS NOT HIS MONEY TO SPEND. TAXPAYERS MONEY IS THE WAY TO GO.

  8. Anon 7:59, 3D made staying in-house impossible by promising that specific position to both Majors and Hardin. With all three hounding his every step, reminding him of his promises, plus whatever Hardin has on him, you can clearly understand why he had to go public.

Anon 1:04, the previous Chief of Security had a growing number of health issues stemming from diabetes, but the deciding factor was indeed a domestic event which could no longer be kept quiet.

It is my understanding that things within WCDC are now so tense that one doesn't need to actually strike a match to have it flame. More of 3D's idea of leadership. Keep his people at one another's throats all the time - constant disharmony. Where did this guy learn his administration techniques?

  9. I am a fourteen year veteran of the Wicomico Dept. of Corrections. I mention this only to show that I know what I speak of.

Correctional Officers are by and large educated and caring people. Not unfeeling thugs or "Good ol Boys" as has been shown in the past. Correctional Officers are the unseen keepers of socities unwanted.

Officers in this profession are overworked and underpaid nationwide. Wicomico County officers are grossly underpaid in relation to surrounding agencies.

The post of Cheif of Security has been open for quite a long time. As far as qualifications, I more than meet the requirements as posted in the job opening advertisement. I hope that a qualified canidate is chosen. I also hope that the canidate comes from outside to prevent business as usual.
