Worthy Of Attention
Joe...I'm with you on this. These unsupervised renegade firefighters are completely out of control. As soon as they hear "structure fire" they ALL try to get there. Not in the interest of saving anyones property or life but rather they treat it as an "event". If they are there, they can talk on and on about it and try to impress their friends and family. Trust me, I used to volunteer but the political bullshit was way too much to take. They all try to make themselves more important than they are. For anyone from Salisbury or Hebron to say they are "trying to save lives" is complete and utter bullshit. By the time they arrived on scene it would be way too late. This brings me to my next point. To all of you firefighters who come on here and read this, I am sick and tired of hearing about how you "save lives". Is there the possibility that you MAY save someones life? Certainly. However, when was the last time you or your department ACTUALLY saved someones life? I know the EMS and Paramedics do it ALL the time. However, as a firefighter, I would venture to say that you have NEVER saved someones life from a fire. I personally know of a couple of instances and know the people involved. But, if you check the facts, more people die in fire than are actually saved by firefighters. Most are saved by neighbors, police or other citizens. This constant talking about "saving lives" has to stop. It is nothing more than scare tactics to intimidate the uninformed. Most of your work is salvage and search and recovery. Not RESCUE. Like I said, EMS is different. I am talking about actual FIRE response. Tell me, when was the last time you actually SAVED A LIFE. You can have all the retarded t-shirts you want printed with ridiculous phrases like "I go where you fear" or "Firefighters save lives" It's just not true and people need to be informed. I WAS a firefighter so I speak from experience. I know it was all about the thrill of riding in the engine, fighting the fire and being part of the event. If not, why do so many people disappear when it's time to clean the equipment, roll hose or put everything back in service? Why do you have to fight to get people to training or meetings. Because they have no interest in that part...they just want the thrill. Unfortunately, that is the part that put innocent citizens at risk.
As a firefighters wife I think you are the one who should wear the t-shirt that says I'm a retard. If you were ever a "firefighter" obviously you didn't learn a thing in your training. Maybe you were in it for the "glory", or maybe it was just for the tax deduction.
ReplyDeleteIf you think about it, what the writer is saying is true. The way these firefighters beat their chest and crave attention, if they actually DID save someones life it would be all over the paper. There is no way they would or could pass up the opportunity to get as much media attention as they could for saving a life. I can't EVER remember reading about a local firefighter saving a life from a fire. I do however recall reading about quite a few people dying in fires around here.
ReplyDeleteIn most cases, by the time the fire is observed and reported by a third party, it is too late to save anyone. If that wasn't long enough, it still takes time for central to alert the fire out, firefighters to respond to the station, get on the equipment and drive it out there then find the people in the house. Most of the time, the person in the house wouldn't have a chance anyway unless the person who originally saw the fire took action.
If the homeowner finds the fire and reports it, well, they saved their own life didn't they?
It's easy to talk about saving lives because that's what gives the "shock" factor. However, it just doesn't happen.
I think a lot of the fire fighters out there are actually gay and go to the stations for some companionship. Group showers, bunk beds, slapping each other on the ass all the time, they're gay. The wives sit at home thinking their man is serving his community when I'd say he's actually serving her brother or best friend. I've even heard the wives love it when their man leaves so they can go off and do someone else while they're away because they don't get it at home. Not with their husbands anyway.
ReplyDeleteMaybe one of you would like to speak to the man the Charleston firefighters pulled out of a furniture store? Can't talk to the firefighters because they died for him to be saved.

If you are a firefighters wife and saying someone didn't learn anything in their training then you don't have the authourity or right to speak. Keep your ass home and get the dinner on the stove. You do not have the credentials to speak about anything you a talking about. If the truth be known I would bet your husband didn't learn anything anyway. I bet he is out banging a brother firefighters wife as you are lurking on this blog. ROTFLMAO.
Yes folks that happens every day of the week in the fire service. That is why there is such a high divorce rate. And if you gave a paternity test it would say "daddy unknown."
You give special billing to someone that could not hack it as a firefighter, and obviously has some sour grapes about it. It is just outrageous how you have turned on all the firefighters on Delmarva. You ought to be ashamed of yourself, Joe.

Okay, I'll rag on the FD for bad grammar and stupid, unenlightened comments, but I think that comment was WAY over the line. Do fire deparments save lives? Yes. Do they do it a la BACKDRAFT? Hell, no. They do it through community education, going to schools during Fire Prevention Week, giving out smoke and CO detectors, coming to check out smoke detectors, and being on alert. Do I think the response to the Delmar fire was a bit over the top, HELL YEAH. I remember a fire many years ago that broke out in a house that was behind a house on Camden Ave., near Big Lots. It was blocking the road, so a lot of people were stuck because they couldn't get through. I was with my parents and I remember there were MAYBE 5 fire trucks and 20-25 firefighters. There was a house near the house that was burning, and these firefighters did an excellent job of minimizing the damage to the other structure (mostly melted siding, and smoke stained windows). What has changed in 20-odd years? Last time I checked, all fires still burned the same way.
My point is this--for all the heat (pardon the pun) the firefighters take, and I admit I do blast them sometimes, I WANT a fireperson to be at the station in case a call comes in. Minutes do count, and it could make the difference between some damage and a total loss. Also, if any of these men are, well, gay, I personally don't give a rat's ass, so long as they show up and don't posture all night.
Greetings Mrs. Firefighters wife. Thanks for your response. However, since you are a "wife" of a firefighter and not an ACTUAL firefighter, you can't speak from experience. You can only talk about what your husband tells you as to why he does what he does. Of course he isn't going to tell you that he does it for the thrills. That's too shallow and not macho enough. He is certainly going to hide behind the "I want to make a difference, to save lives and protect property" bullshit because it's more noble. However, if it's not about glory and attention, then why do they wear all these stupid shirts telling everyone they are a firefighter? If they were truly doing it for the personal satisfaction, they wouldn't need to draw attention to themselves. They would want as little attention as possible. Doing the right thing would be satisfaction enough. But, that's not the way it is, is it? No, they want everyone to know that they are a firefighter. It's all about the glory and the attention. You don't have to agree with me. We can agree to disagree. Just think about what I said.
ReplyDeleteOk, so firefighters died saving someone else. That is in Charleston. I asked about THIS area didn't I? So a firefighter died, that's the risk you take when you "volunteer" or "take the job". Lots of police officers die. In fact, more police officers die each year than fire fighters. However, we don't EVER see police officers going on and on about how they "fight crime and save lives" I have NEVER heard a police officer say "maybe someday you will call for the police and we may not be there to save your ass" like the firefighters constantly do on here. I guess it's a different breed and different kind of person to be a police officer
ReplyDeleteanonymous 9:28, since when did I become your Brother, M/F er? I have no loyalty to you or anyone else.
ReplyDeleteThere are plenty of Fire Fighters I respect and love and are very fine men and women. However, if YOU have to challenge me, you're not one of them.
Finally, don't you see that people are looking at this Blog by the thousands and thinking, what a bunch of assholes! Why would the Fire Fighters be asking for loyalty when clearly they are asking Joe Albero to HIDE things like the Hebron accident and OVERKILL? Think about that before you open your fat trap again.

STFU, asshole! Would you like to say something to my Cousin who died the the World Trade Center on 9/11? Give me a break, Idiot! SHIT HAPPENS!
So Joe, do you think it was overkill on all the people that was sent to the WTC on 9/11? You do realize that units from DELMAR responded!!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 9:47,
ReplyDeleteAre you F/N kidding me? God bless those men and women who risked their lives but you know what?
I grew up in the City. I was raised in that area. I learned in Kindergarten how to GTF out of a building.
As severe as that was, NO ONE should have entered that building AND THE END RESULT WAS, MR. HERO??????
DON'T YOU DARE COMPARE YOURSELF TO TWTC IN NYC, YOU PIECE OF SHIT!
NO, they should not have gone into those buildings. God Bless each and every one of them and may the rest forever in peace.
Those FF's that entered the WTC saved countless lives. Unfortuantely many lost their life in the efforts to do so. FF's do not show up at a fire and sit on the lawn and roast marshmallos and watch the place burn down.
ReplyDeleteWho cares about your cousin Joe? Really who cares? Its all about you! Joe this Joe that. Brother get over the past 9/11 is old news so is your cousin brother! FUCK YOU JOE!!!
ReplyDeleteSheesh. What a train wreck we have here.
ReplyDeleteI suppose all you insult slinging bloggers would be willing to stand behind your keyboard testicles and send these macho attention seeking gay fire fighters home if they responded to a fire at your house.
People seek out careers and volunteer for public service for a variety of reasons. If your house is burning do you really give a rat's patoot?
Seems like a number of posters here need to step back from the computer and take a deep breath.
They do here on the eastern shore. If you own an old building, better watch out because these guys will set it on fire for the thrill of putting it out.

That is a good point. Many of the arsonist in this country are firefighters and many are volunteers.

Look moron, these firefighters died because of the stupid leadership of the fire department. These so called leaders were the David See's and Bill Gordy's as well as the Barrie Tilghman's and Comegys. They are going to get someone killed some day.

Look, jackass, the last time I checked, this blog had to do with Salisbury and the surrounding area, NOT Charleston. Not one person is saying that firefighters don't save lives, what they do say is that it GENERALLY doesn't happen here. As a matter of fact, it GENERALLY doesn't happen in a lot of places. Again, not saying it doesn't happen, but it doesn't happen at every fire.
Oh, and before you throw up the fact that Joe posted pictures of other firehouses that have been built, that was to expose the OUTRAGEOUSNESS of the expense incurred.
Just so its known asshole. Hebron went to the 9/11 tragedy as well with Delmar. Joe only sees his hard-on for the fire service as good publicity. F*** HIM...I would not piss on him if he were on fire..and you can take that to the bank...

They may have gone to the WTC during the Sept. 11, 2001 tragedy, but they weren't invited or dispatched. They did what most of the renegades do around here, they were freelancing uninvited.
You see citizens, when you thought your rednecks were protecting your assets and family they were playing "hero" somewhere they had no business being at.
And don't worry some good things happened during the incident. There were some needs taken care of by the Brothers and new life came into existence 9 months later.
Damn, bubba I think we need to take a paternity test for Junior!!! LMAO

Again Joe you know nothing to what you state! All the departments from around here were asked and went up all together as a team!
Get your fact straight!
So i guess you guys think that no firefighters run ambulance calls too right? Correct me if i'm wrong but ambulance calls are all about saving lives.
ReplyDeleteMr. Anon at 9:28:
ReplyDeleteWho said I couldn't hack it as a firefighter? I certainly put in the time and effort and performed well. I was certified as a Firefighter III, Pumps Operator, was an Engineer, EMT - B, Fire Officer I and II and held numerous certifications relating to rescue. I was not disgruntled and certainly COULD hack it. I did it for quite a few years. I simply grew up and quit playing with fire trucks. It happens. I found other interests that gave me fullfillment rather than sitting around a firehouse gossiping and complaining most of the time while we PRAYED for an alarm so we could "go for a ride". You know that is how it is. You just won't admit it. For any firefighter to come on here and say they want to protect property and save lives (while the whole time they are at the firehouse praying for a call) is hypocritical. Again, you know that I'm right but you would NEVER admit it.
As a firefighter you have few times to save a life in a fire. The opportunities are few and far between for several reasons. Smoke detectors have been one of the key elements of this fact. Sprinklers and public education also play a role here. However there are those opportunities where none of these advantages are in place to prevent a tragedy and the firefighters come into play. I joined the fire department 28 years ago and have made a save or two in a fire. I have also pulled victims out that did not survive because the fire had too much headway to overcome. I think the average firefighter is just there to help a person in his time of need. It doesn't matter if its a broken pipe or a fully involved house. The one constant is that they are always there, whether career or volunteer, you can count on them being there. I respect the opinions of the readers post and he is entitled to his opinion. He left the service for the resons stated and that was his choice and the reasons are not new. However in my career the rewards have far exceeded the negatives. I will do this as long as my body will allow me to. We are a different breed and I'm proud to be a part of the fire service.

Firefighters are nothing more that Emergency Medical Drivers and nothing more. This is the opportunity for them to blow a wad in their pants by driving fast and blowing the siren. Remember the last time one of thos idiots came screaming behind you with lights and sirens running and it scared the living hell out of you and the driver flicked you off because you wouldn't get out of his way qick enough?? Chances are about 90% that it wasn't a real emergency and his neighbor could have waited for an appointment with his own Doc or drove himself to the hospital or God forbid he call a taxi. OOOOOPS, Faux Paux, the ambulanc is the taxi. Yep we all know that if we go by ambulance we will get waited on quick. Yep, what a moronic thought and many of the redneck drivers believe that themselves.
