Big Criminal News Tonight

The past two days have simply been unreal crime wise. Two days ago there was an armed robbery in Salisbury. One the day before that. Today there was a Home Invasion with an 81+ year old man in his home. I'm told a black woman came to his door to use the phone and he agreed to allow her to do so. She made some calls and the next thing he knew a black gentleman came in with a gun and held the elderly man in his home while the woman took off with Bank Cards and started withdrawing money left and right. WCSO responded to the scene and were FORCED to get a subpoena to obtain the video from the Bank of the machine she used and they were able to get some good video of the woman but they are both still on the loose.

Then there was a car jacking in Salisbury that included a stabbing and fortunately the WCSO was listening to the calls over the radio and spotted the vehicle and apprehended the suspect and the weapon. I'm told there's an average of about 2 robberies per day in the City right now. UNBELIEVABLE!

Then I came to learn that the City of Salisbury Police Department only has 4 vehicles that have the ability to hear any radio transmission coming from the WCSO! The WCSO can hear all the SPD calls and assist but the SPD cannot hear the majority of what's going on with the WCSO.

I'll let the Officers get on here and settle this one because IMO, that's BS! Anyhow, fortunately no one was killed today and each shift is going home safe and sound. More info tomorrow as it comes in.

  1. Did that happen on Camden Avenue today? There were about 10 or eleven police cars and oodles of police apprehending people in a small silver car, was it the carjacking? Why doesn't anyone ever tell the residents in the areas about this stuff so they can be more cautious?

  2. Because Salisbury News Kicks Ass, that's why! No, seriously though. I heard someone covered the Loblolly Home Invasion but I didn't hear anything else on the rest.

Oh, did I happen to mention I'm a Staff of ONE and the Tilghman Times is a Staff of more than 200? LOL

  3. I don't know what the deal is relating to the WCSO cars being able to monitor radio transmissions from the City police. In the past, deputies were permitted to install thier own scanners in the cars assigned to them but when the City Police went to the 800 mhz system only a few deputies had scanners that scanned that high. In 1996 (I believe) Clinton signed the "Omnibus Crime Bill" into law. Part of this law was that scanner manufacturers could no longer distribute scanners that were capable of going into the 800 range because many household cordless phones operated within that range. Scanners capable of allowing the deputies to monitor the City Police became extremely rare. I would imagine that they are all but non-existent by now. Maybe Mike has arranged to have radios syncronized to the cities system, but I don't think Chiefy would have agreed to that. I am inclined to believe that Chiefy would never provided a mechanism for the city to communicate with the county.

  4. Dude.....it's true though.....ya know. Point is I think it would take more than a notion to make this happen. I can see Mike jumping thru those hoops to make it happen....but not Chiefy.

  5. Different trunked system at SPD than at WCSO. Both in the 800 mhz bands and repeaters make them clear all over the county/city with some exceptions.

  6. The WCSO radio's have newer radio's and can listen to MSP and SPD transmissions if they so choose. I heard the call was broadcasted to WCSO dispatch and then dispatch gave the information over the WCSO radio. As far as I know, WCSO doesn't listen to SPD transmissions. Also, there are no Sheriff's cars with scanners anymore.

  7. "WCSO responded to the scene"
That's because it was in WCSO jurisdiction. NOT CITY.
