Anonymous, I must disagree with you on this one. The small per person fee for visiting and viewing the Dog Show is not where the bulk of the dollars come from though they do help the revenue. Rent of the Civic Center and Entrance fees for the dogs would be the majority of the revenue. The loss of the dog show would be a loss for the community as a whole. Motels, hotels, eateries and retail stores would lose. People come from all over and eventhough there were many RVs at the Civic Center there were still dollars spent for lodging, eats and even groceries for the RVs. It would be interesting to find out just what the expected gain for this area is from the dog show.
I won't resort to name-calling, but anonymous is wrong. I don't live close enough to come just to watch, but I wish I could. In this age when so many shows are inappropriate for families, this is one that families can attend and enjoy. Lots cheaper than a movie, and kids love seeing the dogs, as well as those of us who are older than 18. Joe, thanks for posting about this.
If you had been standing around the ring when they were judging the group you would have known how crowded it was. Not everyone stays for group judging.
Don't be so critical, you'll get wrinkles and gray hair.
Really don't look like a good turnout from these photos.
ReplyDeleteThis event must be one of the smallest turnout than anything else that is held at the civic center.
Even bingo has a better turn out!
Can't really see where it would be a big loss for this area if we didn't have this event!
