The full color franked mail Gilchrest's congressional office sent out at taxpayer expense is misleading the public on Gilchrest's record on illegal immigration. "The taxpayers are funding Gilchrest's misleading statements concerning his record on illegal immigration," said Chris Meekins, Political Director for the campaign.
The truth is Gilchrest supports AMNESTY for illegal immigrants (co-sponsor of H.R. 371, 2007). "Unlike the incumbent, I will never support any form of amnesty," Harris added.
Gilchrest's real record on illegal immigration:
H.R.1885 5/21/2001 Vote 127: Gilchrest voted to allow illegal immigrants who overstayed their visas to pay a $1,000 fine and stay in the U.S. while they completed their residency application.
H. AMDT 655 7/8/2004 Vote 341: Gilchrest voted against an amendment that would have increased funding for enforcing current federal laws against sanctuary policies for illegal aliens.
H. AMDT 745 9/9/2004 Voted 439: Gilchrest voted against the amendment that would have barred illegal immigrants working in the U.S. from receiving Social Security benefits.
H.AMDT 138 5/17/2005 Vote 177: Gilchrest voted against the amendment that would have denied federal homeland security funding to state and local governments who refuse to share information with federal immigration authorities.
Not only is Gilchrest misleading the public about his record, but he is also using taxpayer dollars to do it. "Apparently Gilchrest has so little respect for taxpayer dollars, that he votes for billions of dollars in wasteful spending and then uses taxpayer dollars to fund campaign activities," Meekins said.
"It is one thing to send a letter to a constituent who asks about a specific issue, it is a completely different thing to mislead them," said Chris Meekins, Political Director for Harris for Congress.
Using taxpayer funded franked mail for his own political benefit is nothing new for the office of Wayne Gilchrest. In the first quarter of 2007, Gilchrest's office was in the top 10% of all members of congress in his abuse of franked mail.
This is an excellent topic due to the fact that the effort by most in congress is to support amnesty AGAIN. I don't understand where this is coming from. It failed during the last attempt because the congressmen and senators were deluged with phone calls and
ReplyDeletee-mails from us....the people!
What part of "NO" don't they understand. Does what just happened in Snow Hill and Parsonsburg mean nothing? We need to secure our borders! NOW! The polls show that between 85 and 89% of the U.S. CITIZENS want no amnesty for illegal aliens and they want the borders secured.
People we have to call our congressmen and senators again....and again.....and again....until they learn that we, the people, won't back down from this. This is a matter of national security and our elected officials are selling us out for votes. If they allow amnesty for illegal aliens, it will only be a matter of time before they grant them the right to vote. NO NO NO!
We cannot let this divide us along party lines (remember - divide and conquer). We have to set aside our differences and unite on this issue. Call your Congressmen. Call your Senators. Tell them NO AMNESTY and SECURE OUR BORDERS.
I have been lurking here for awhile and have never contributed a comment before. I too am a Delmar resident, therefore am only curious about a lot of "Salisbury News". But you have hit on a topic that I am passionate about!
ReplyDeleteSeems that I almost always agree with Grand Dad. (I am not sure that I have ever not agreed!) Once again, he echoes my opinion!!
These representatives in Washington are determined to pass AMNESTY legislation. They back off when they are bombarded with protests from their constituents only to try a sneak attack down the road. They do
understand "NO", they are just determined to do it their way. And we can just bend over and take it as far as they are concerned! We should be grateful that Mikulski and Cardin care enough to screw us! The financial burden that Illegals impose on us is horrific, we are in danger of losing our culture and we have borders open to terrorists. Unbelievable!!
I send emails to our Senators almost on a daily basis - not that they will change, but I will be a thorn in some way. I always include wording to the effect that I will do everything in my power to insure that they will not serve another term.
I encourage all to follow Grand Dad's direction - call and email your legislators. Tell them No Amnesty! Tell them to secure the borders and that you will vote accordingly.

ReplyDeleteI too do this and have actually been laughed at by Mikulski's office personnel! And as "md my md" said, I too agree with grand dad and love his professionalism; I just wish I could word things the way he does.
I quit voting for Mr. Gilchrest 2 elections ago, he doesn't care what his constituents want, all he cares about is pushing his liberal agenda! This man is nothing but a "liberal in conservative clothing" and needs to change parties as he is fooling no one anymore!
Politics has turned into a Republicn vs. Democrat war and neither of them care what happens to this great nation as long as "their" side wins! Prime example of this is the slots...lol...Governor Ehrlich (btw, I think our best governor ever) fought to get these slots for his entire term and was shot down; now we have a democrat Governor (and I say this laughingly because I think he's a clown) and guess what...we'll have slots soon! God forbid a Republican get slots passed and pull our state out of the state it's in!
The day Mr. O'Malley got elected I knew slots would be here soon and our taxes would be raised as his party knows nothing but to raise taxes! Anyone with half a brain knows all they have to do in Annapolis or any gov't. is to stop WASTING money on overpriced frivolities and stick to the basics...Oh yea...and try listening to the people that got you there!
