In today's Daily Times everyone's name was mentioned referencing the "City pulls proposal to limit animals" with exception of the one person who started the entire proposal and that would be Barrie Tilghman.
It was Barrie Tilghman who vindictively went after "one" family and she "used" Chief Webster to lead the way in changing what everyone thought would create a new law. However, the law of only having 5 animals in one household has always been on the books in Salisbury. So what kind of reporting was the Daily Times actually offering?
The Times quoted, "A proposed animal control ordinance that would limit the number of dogs, cats and rabbits to five per home has created a stir in the community and left council members inundated with phone calls, said Mike Dunn." Hello, that's always been the law!
Barrie Tilghman was doing what she does best and she was going after "one family" in order to take away pets from 7 children! That's how cold she is folks. She couldn't prove that these animals weren't well cared for and this particular family registered legally each and every year for a special permit allowing them to have above 5 animals so each child could own their very own pet. They weren't after the 5 animal law, they were after allowing any more special permits!
So in order to protect Barrie Tilghman and the Daily Times proving she was the front runner in this move, they eliminated her name completely from the article. It's amazing how they protect her and it's amazing the two real people in charge of defending her from the Salisbury Kennel Club were ignored and they chose to attempt to pass this supposed new rule anyway.
It was only until we found out about this one family and the fact that this information would go public, that's when the Mayor and Council backed off! It just proves once again that Barrie Tilghman will go to great lengths and extremes to hurt you if you're not a FOB.
My guess is that she'll call for a Press Conference in the near future to try to clear her name but just like every other time she'll come out looking like a fool once again.
On another note, Gary Comegys was overheard stating that the Humane Society Staff are deeply concerned over the amount of animals the Humane Society was forced to put down this summer. I heard it was in the hundreds.
I have just confirmed through the Humane Society that they have in factc put down close to 300 animals this summer alone. It's time we concentrate on helping the Humane Society Folks.
Please forgive me, this post got screwed up and I lost the coments. Here's what was lost........

I would not trust the Times with any of my blog comments. They hack, chop and edit to please the status quo.
Further, looks like they need to fact check, before they take things carte blanc, especially from local government.
Unfortunately, many people just don't care about animals, paying for health care, spay and neuter. Right now, I have 2 rescue Labs, if the city counts the wild oppusum, squirrels and racoons in my yard, I may be over the limit now.
All I can do at this point is donate some money.

Rant mode -
Regarding the Wicomico County Humane Society and the number of animals they put to sleep, I sincerely hope no one will fault them for this. It ain't telescoping building with infinite capacity and they don't clone the staff as needed. They have a limited staff, limited space, and limited budget. And they're as good a bunch of people as you could hope for.
No Kill Shelters are a farce. Let me repeat that NO KILL SHELTERS ARE A FARCE. With one exception, if they have an extensive number of foster homes they can be a no kill. Otherwise they just turn people away and they drive off into the country and ditch the dog or take it to another shelter, thus giving the poor saps at that one the chance to kill yet another bad choice you made. Trust me, none of the folks that have to kill your mistake enjoy doing this, quite the opposite is true.
If you want to help them -
1) Think before you get a pet. It is a commitment for the life of the pet, not a pair of shoes you can throw away when the style goes flat.
2) Spay/neuter it. The only dogs that should be bred are those that are fine examples of a breed and will serve to improve the overall breed quality. "I want her to experience motherhood" or "I want him to get a crack at sex" are not valid reasons and only make you appear to be thoughtless.
3) For the love of pete, if you realise you've made a mistake don't go driving out in the country to drop the poor animal off into the wild. Contrary to what you may think, a pet isn't equipped to survive on its own and in the wild. Would you do that to a kid? If you have made a mistake do your best to find a GOOD home for it yourself to ease the load on the shelter. Besides, if you just drop it off it is a candidate for immediate euthanasia. If the shelter is overcrowded and your "mistake" doesn't look like a sure bet to move it will be put to sleep most likely.
4) If you must take an animal to the shelter throw some cash their way, not attitude. They're often stressed from having to deal with rude people and having to decide which dogs get the axe today. Give them a break, some respect, and some financial support.
5) If you report a cruelty, stray animal, or other item requiring a visit from an animal control officer or representative from the humane society be aware that they aren't ready to roll at the drop of a hat and there probably are way less than fifty of them. Not even 49. Be patient.
