Huge Huge problem. This country has moved to placate the automobile so much that walking anywhere is uncomprehensible. THink of it. The thought to walk from Zia's to the Mall would never cross your mind. Hell you would be scared to. Sidewalks should be a priority if the city wants to attract more people to the area.
On another note I am about to take up this same issue in Princess Anne. At least SU figured out it needed a safe passage across 13 and installed the tunnel. Join in the cross walk banter folks. Walking is not a privlage, its a right.
I have to agree on this. It seems that most of the new roads and subdivisions don't have sidewalks. I'm fortunate to have a bike path that leads along Beaglin Park Drive so I can get in my walk and part of my bike ride but sometimes I like to walk along OOC Road and that's a bit more dicey (although there is a 3-4' wide shoulder.)
But I can't take a walk to the pharmacy without having to cross 5 lanes of traffic on route 50 at an intersection with no walk lights or crosswalks. That's not too smart as far as pedestrian planning.
Well, they started that damn bypass when???? 1972-73 something like that, they didn't even complete it until a couple years ago and the city has long since outgrown the "loop". A new extension going around the north end up to Delmar needs to be thought about. Of course the business owners won't like that!
That's how cities grow, bypass off ramp to bypass off ramp. then the center city becomes a slum, then the yippies buy up the property and turn them into high rent districts and antique boutiques. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Remember in D2000 when all the nurses got ran over after they put the old people in the streets? I still laugh at that....
