I went down Riverside drive yesterday, and counted approx. A dozen where the adhesive has melted and smeared and the reflector has slid. These were not installed properly. I've seen them installed in other communities in the middle of the lane, not to one side. If they can't rotate their head to find the hydrant, then these do not need to be installed. Period. Waste of money, time, and the old way worked or gps. There are a few factors i feel that they didn't consider:
*Proper installation
*What happens when the road or roads get plowed?
*Adhesive strength hot/cold temps on asphalt
*What happens when the road gets repaved?
*Maintenance of reflectors?
*Who has to replace these?
*How long do/will these reflectors last till they are ruined?
It's a complete waste in my opinion. The whole sfd scenario is a huge waste. Chasing out volunteers and spending money on multi-million fire houses, burning fuel we are paying daily to do personal runs and eating out when they have thousands of dollars set in decent firehouse kitchens. Come on Salisbury we're not fricken nyfd so quit acting like it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31586983.post-33696907182238754642017-07-22T08:25:24.642-04:002017-07-22T08:25:24.642-04:00Well the only thing I have to say is common sense ...Well the only thing I have to say is common sense was not used when putting down these reflectors. You could say hydrants are easy to spot when you are driving your car with no distractions. Driving a fire truck is a little different. You are concerned with many factors including safety, other vehicles, hose type and placement as well as locating a hydrant. Many cities use these markers and they are installed just like the lane markers on the state highways in MD. They are installed just below the surface and rarely come up. Rt. 50 gets plowed several times a winter. Those markers are still there. For some reason, locals around here can screw up even the simplest of things.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31586983.post-58142292353409934842017-07-21T12:49:33.552-04:002017-07-21T12:49:33.552-04:00Have computers with limited programs that have to ...Have computers with limited programs that have to be approved and strictly job related to duties, unable to get any type of social media or unauthorized programs according to County Executive and local Fire Assoc., in fire vehicles, since there has to be more than one in the vehicles with one as a navigator. They have to log on with a record of user, time date and sites visited. Not able to delete history. The programs would be a GPS and a program with all hydrants identified. Very simple program to right since all hydrants could be marked with GPS co-ordinates. A lot cheaper than this trash SFD spends money on that is useless. Even get work release inmates to paint them. Hydrants have no preventive maintenance which is totally ridiculous. Shows again no management and no concept of preventive maintenance.Concerned Retireenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31586983.post-14121184314399103072017-07-21T12:41:32.705-04:002017-07-21T12:41:32.705-04:00So how hard is it to see a fire hydrant? While there is the rare storm where plows can throw snow onto these hydrants, shouldn't it be the responsibility of each fire department to locate each one and clear them right away? I mean, they are paid 24/7 and IF they actually gave a crap about their jobs they'd do just that. Mind you, they'd have to know where each on is located.
