A Viewer Writes: So, what has Ocean City become since 2019?

Ocean City was a tourist attraction with some very carefully manipulated and marketed events. It also has chosen NOT to market. This year, EVERY 2019 event has been canceled or moved. This (Air Show) weekend was the icing on their cake. Following a St. Luke’s Catholic mass today, Ocean City Management. OC Transportation implemented measures today to HINDER tourists AND OTHERSS from leaving. The transportation people decided to park a truck marked “Transportation” truck just at the point where visitor HAD to exist to Route 90 and turn right. No attendant, no driver, just a truck with flashers on. With all the visitors taxes, is that the best they can do? It looks like more of OC looking TO A CHICKEN PLANT to save problems the they own.

  2. Am I missing something here?
    That post makes no sense.

The Mare and Council have declared no admission fee to use the Buddy Jenkins Stump Ocean Pier through Labour Day!
Great news for us on fixed income!

  5. Lost and unrecognizable to locals. A failure to have a backup in case of the worst reflects a lack of a strategic plan for the future.

There will be comments like we never thought something like this could happen....or we reacted to slowly...or there wasn't anything we could do.

Well others listened and assimilated into the new normal....why couldn't City Hall provide that leadership way ahead?

November is a few short months away.

  7. My advice - stay clear of OC. The town officials are the rulers and the tourist and taxpayers are their slaves. Taxes, fees, sewer fees, water bills, front foot assessments, vending machine fees, business licences, parking meters, their list of taxing impositions are endless. Stay the heck out of there.

  8. It's become nothing more than a money pit. Everything is way overpriced with bad elements arriving yearly. What used to be an affordable family vacation for thousands. Has become a money hungry thug attraction. Thanks to city leader's only worried about a buck. Not giving a damn who's giving it. Without new leadership it will fail. I remember Wildwood NJ began the same way. Until resident's voted in new LEADERSHIP and Look at it now??

  9. I believe the article is

What has Ocean City became over the last year ?

    Basically, the Tourist are done

so, no taxes to keep things going on the island

I'd say to make all buildings there affordable housing

for those who are on government assistance...

  10. I just hope that both visitors attending Sunfest can find a place to eat. By then I expect all restaurants to be CV 19 closed.

  11. Why didn’t they use a few buses? They would have been able to impede more traffic. They certainly aren’t being used for transportation.

  12. Sunfest has already been cancelled. Not much else left to do but drink beer.

  16. The inlet parking lot is way overpriced! $3.50 per hour......really??? and we have been down there and see so many people park and don't pay. We go there because we are elderly (on a fixed income) but love to watch the boats etc in the inlet. We always pay but it should be more affordable for folks if they want them to stay on the boardwalk area and spend money.

    1. Locals should be free - the plate scanner could sort this out by zip code registered to the plate
