I agree... it should have never been shut down in the first place. This whole thing is just turning out to be a political stunt to make Trump look bad. The number of deaths related to Covid 19 is so far off with blaming ever sickness and in related deaths to this virus just to inflate the number so hospitals and doctors get more money. Very sad what has happened to our country.
They are using the boogyman called coronavirus for all these unconstitutional acts.
Like 8:50 said, the boardwalk should have never been shut down. If you are scared to go out then STAY HOME! Don't force the rest of us to worship in your church of coronavirus nonsense.
The mentality around here is until someone they know dies, it is all made up. The rest of the World is battling this as well, but locals must get to the beach and have a cold beer. They are in dire need of it. How have they made it this long?
No because nothing is in line with the state, surround states, etc.
No rights are being taking away, the government that everyone HATES is the same government everyone yell for help in time of need. Then when folks "feel" what they "think" is correct or needed - then all hell breaks loose.
Or hatred is spewed because human defense mechanisms ignite.
Facilities are not ready for what has already taken place (stay at home, shelter in place, etc) and the supply chain has yet to restart in the resort town.
The communication from City FAIL last night was atrocious at minimum. Only thing opening up is the BEACH and WALKING on the boardwalk. That should have go out locally - not DELMARVA wide. Mary contacted WBAL in Baltimore, FOX5DC covered it as their lead story at 10pm I read on NBC4 Washington they had a snippet on their 11pm news. WBOC/WMDT had it which wasn't necessary either.
Now Rickie and Lloyd have damage control since out of towners THINK OC is open. They will come yet nothing is open, which will piss people off (both businesses/hotels not able to make money AND tourists who can't stay at a hotel or eat anywhere normal), there is no supply chains working.....
A MARKETING NIGHTMARE.
So no, the way it was done showed lack of ingenuity and the same ME business mindset.
we need to open everything up and let the virus run its course.heard immunity! if your scared, just stay home.how is this socialism of the past 6 weeks working for you!
I think this is still only for residents and those that live close by and not for anyone else. I took it to meam a "locals Only" sort of thng, but you know how this will turn out. People will be all over the place. I also understand that the boardwalk shops and just about everything else is still closed. I'm wondering just how this will be managed.
"Anonymous said... Unless the number of Covid Cases has been declining, that would be a no.
May 5, 2020 at 8:50 AM"
the overwhelming majority of people who do test positive have very very minor symptoms. So with that in mind more testing positive would be a good thing. They've had it and can't get it again and spread it. In virology less hosts equals a slow down at the minimum an eradication at best. At the peak US hospitalizations from it was about 30 percent. Remember the ONLY fear officials had was overwhelming the hospital system. Hospitalizations nationwide have peaked and are stabilizing and dropping. As far as deaths go that will most likely rise. It's is a 23 to 30 day spread for people to pass from it. This because they are being kept on ventilators longer then other patients would be. So any deaths you see are not people who just got it.
" Anonymous said... So the fact that this area had to call in the CDC and FEMA this week means nothing? Yeah lets all go to the boardwalk and make the numbers worse.

Right It means NOTING UNLESS you work in one of the poultry processing plants or come in daily close contact with those who do Stop the fear mongering. It only proves you yourself are not one bit informed and are ignorant to the facts. You need to educate yourself
SHORT MEMORIES - lets look back at St. Patrick's day - Meehen failed miserably - places packed - no social distancing - the fire marshall had to be called in to enforce crowd control - and the virus was not nearly as bad as it is now - what do you think is going to happen this weekend. WBAL covered it last night - I can hear the conversations in Baltimore and surrounding areas - "lets take a ride out - we can't spend the night but it will be nice to see the beach and boardwalk - we can get lunch at a drive through and then head back." We may never know the carnage this causes because people will get sick back in their hometowns - I am for opening the boardwalk and beach but maybe, just maybe it should be for residents of the lower eastern shore - an ID as proof - what is wrong with that? Enjoy your freedom but please please be careful!
Long over due!!! Should have never been closed. Its called freedom. If you want to you have every right. If you don't feel safe then stay home. It's called freedom of choice. Notice the repetitive use of the word freedom. That's because it is what this country was built on.
"Now Rickie and Lloyd have damage control since out of towners THINK OC is open. They will come yet nothing is open, which will piss people off (both businesses/hotels not able to make money AND tourists who can't stay at a hotel or eat anywhere normal), there is no supply chains working....."
Not so fast! SOME media outlets state that OC is open to "nearby residents". Just how far does nearby extend?
9:32. Your problem is you are beyond ignorant and it's showing big time. Let me educate you. FYI almost all state parks in the state are open have been open except Assateague and Sandy Point. County parks statewide are open as well. And what orifice you pulled this "shelter in place" order is a mystery. There was never one ordered by MD. Stay at home UNLESS an essential reason to leave. The essential reasons never excluded getting outside and getting fresh air including at the many parks and walking trails throughout the state.
Let's clear something up right now. there was not ever a statewide "shelter in place order" so stop repeating that. Get the phrase out of your vocabulary this minute. Secondly most parks and walking trails state and county and municipal have remained opened. Now here's the important part that should stop all the debate on this reopening of the beach and the boardwalk as engaging in outdoor exercise activities was deemed essential by the Governor since the beginning of the state order back in March.
" Essential activities listed by Governor Hogan’s order include getting supplies or services for yourself, your family or your pets. That includes health care. And if you need to travel to an educational facility to either receive meals or to pick up distance-learning materials, you’re also exempt.
Also includes: " Engaging in outdoor exercise activities, such as walking, hiking, running or biking, but only in compliance with the order on gatherings of 10 or more and by applying social distancing guidelines from the state health department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention."
Yes, my dad is a lawyer and were going to get rich off this. Liability lawsuits, negligence, and anything else dad can come up with. His partners are all waiting to file.
These same clowns saying no and citing Corona this Corona that are listening to the CDC now but they don't listen to the CDC about vaccinating their child. Ok morons what is it. Libtards are always on riding the fence.
Now Rickie and Lloyd have damage control since out of towners THINK OC is open. They will come yet nothing is open, which will piss people off (both businesses/hotels not able to make money AND tourists who can't stay at a hotel or eat anywhere normal), there is no supply chains working.....

(;32 - I believe you are very correct on this point. This will be a mess.
@9:23 - everyone testing positive this week for active virus acquired it during the time of total lockdown. Not one of the people testing positive now was exposed at the beach or on the boardwalk or in a restaurant or at their non-essential job or at school or at a park or at the gym or at the Centre or on the golf course or at the Y or at the chiropractor’s, the dentist’s or the eye doctor’s office.
You're right. But to think they have been at home going nowhere? That's absurd! Have witnessed the lines at the grocery store, Home Depot, Lowes, Sam's, Walmart? The lines are packed. That is where they are spreading it, taking it home and giving it to others. They didn't just magically acquire this at home.
Open it. There is a need though to explain to folks that want to stroll the beach and Boardwalk that no facilities will be open. Also: I'm guessing that the ratio of people walking in town will be much less than the amount of people that are filling the inside of Walmart and Home Depot all day long. I'll take my chances on the Boards.
As you want to go have fun, it forces someone to have to be around someone and work, so you can have fun. It would cause their unemployment benefits to cease, because you want to have fun. If you need to be outside, walk outside, walk around the block, the yard. We have a lot of open area, park your car and walk on a back road. Remember you wanting to do something, is costing another who may not.
No, not at thos time. I feel this is a bad and rushed decision. The State will be flooded from tourist. Remember how many on here just yesterday were still stating for "Out of towners" to stay home. Yet we will be welcoming them now. We need to give this a little longer. That is just my 2 cents.
Yes , open the beach and the boardwalk , also open the bars and eateries . Open the hotels and motels , open the car washes , just open all , this virus is mostly a load of crap that doesn't stink anymore , just like Trump and Russia .
11:08 I know 3 people who have died- 54 yr old in FL, 27 yr old in Georgetown DE and 37 yr old in Las Vegas. All had underlying illness. I also know several in the hospital (one the 10 yr old son of the 37 yr old who died) He is positive as well as his mother who is home. He has cancer was undergoing chemo so they thought best to put him in the hospital. The 54 yr old mother and other family live in Sby. I also know someone in a local hosptial on a ventilator. And 2 family members of theirs who had it got well without hospitalization. I also know at least 30 or more people in NYC who had it. I think I had it myself back in early Feb. I know more people who've had it then even local medical personnel. I also know where these people contracted it and you can be assured it wasn't outside in an open space. So don't even insinuate anyone thinks this is made up. What is made up is the fear surrounding this issue. Opening the beach or the boardwalk is not going to create a high risk area or change the numbers in anyway.
This is going to be a nightmare for this area in 3 to 4 weeks or more. All of our essential employees such as grocery store clerks, convenience store workers, and healthcare workers numbers are going to skyrocket. Then what you morons?!? Are you willing to work their jobs as they recover?
I have never known anyone to be asymptotic with the flu. The COVID-19 virus is so dangerous because of its asymptotic carriers. . What about this are you people not understanding?
Actually, I don't ever plan to visit OC ever again. Not because of the virus but because of the type of people it attracts - NJ, Penna, NY - most of whom have no respect for OC - just party time. Whatever happened to the "family beach".
Hot car parades - knife attacks, punks on the boardwalk, vandals - that's what you need to be afraid of - not the virus.
