QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY, Md. —Queen Anne's County has become the first county in Maryland to ban environmentally harmful balloon releases. The county commissioners passed Ordinance 19-13, unanimously, which prohibits the release of non-biodegradable helium balloons.
“Intentionally releasing balloons into the atmosphere is nothing short of littering”, said the bill’s author, Commissioner Christopher M. Corchiarino. “This ordinance will allow us to protect a cross-section of interests in the County while furthering the stewardship of our waterways and rural landscapes”.
The Queen Anne's Conservation Association (QACA) praised the commisioners for their initiative.

As if helium is the only gas that's lighter than air.
ReplyDelete6:35-It's not the helium but the deflated waste. I can't believe someone has to explain that.
DeleteMy birthdays balloons
ReplyDeletewhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Plus, they are harmful to our Sea Life.
ReplyDeleteGlad to read this. Wish the entire State of
MD would pass the Law.
“Intentionally releasing balloons into the atmosphere is nothing short of littering”.
ReplyDeleteLet's think about the "Free" papers that the DT throws everywhere...
Oh, I guess when a corporation does it, it's okay.
I agree with this ....unless they come up with a biodegradable balloon.
ReplyDeleteI am in my seventies and have been an outdoorsman all my life and have never found a deflated balloon. I think this is all BS. Who wants to bet this commissioner is a liberal?
ReplyDeleteTo resolve the problem, there has to be a not only biodegradable material, but one that dissolves quickly when exposed to water. Biodegradability can be measured in terms of years, which is way too long.
ReplyDeleteThere is probably one balloon for every 100,000 plastic bottles tossed into the waterways every day. Wake up people!
ReplyDeleteGood comparison
DeleteWe need to sue them! This violates the 1st. Amendment of Free Speech and Expression! We are allowed to send up balloons with our wishes and dreams!
ReplyDeleteBunch of Dumb a$$ Libtards!
