Republican Gov. Larry Hogan 'stronger than ever' in re-election bid in deep-blue Maryland

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan is lapping the Democratic field at the close of the fundraising books ahead of the June 26 primaries, as he is sitting on close to $10 million in cash for his re-election bid compared with about $600,000 for his nearest potential competitors.

Since winning in a stunning upset in 2014, Mr. Hogan has consistently championed themes tied to jobs and economic growth, along with lower taxes and less government regulation after years of one-party Democratic rule in Maryland, to score eye-popping approval ratings that would be the envy of just about any other governor in the country.

Despite national anti-Republican headwinds and a crowded field of Democratic contenders eager to take him on after their primary contest next week, political handicappers are forecasting another Hogan win in the fall. That would make Mr. Hogan the first Republican governor in Maryland to win re-election in about 60 years.

He has the money to do it — at least so far — after raising about $1 million in the May 16 to June 10 period.

He won't be winning this time!!!!!

Pure propaganda!
He's proven himself to be a true RINO.
I am certain he has already lost most of the conservative areas of Maryland.
Unfortunately, because of this governor, we will most like get another liberal democrat for governor.

He's gone liberal. I won't and never was going to support him for re-election. I will not vote.
Admittedly he will win, but with a liberal agenda. He just throws a bone to republicans now and then like the Bay bridge toll.
Now he's pulling our national guard from the Border. Bad move!
Trump is right doing just as he is. I wish he'd close the border completely.
Hogan is not a republican.

He had better reverse his thoughts on protecting US borders this week, or all the money in the world won't get him anywhere.

I fervently hope Hogan doesn't get another term every thing he has supported including this stupid Festival coming up he has approved of. The man is brain dead and never thinks what is truly best for Maryland.

Had my vote until yesterday when he pulled the Maryland Guard out of border duty.

how did all that $$ work out for JEB! ?

Hogan will never get another one of my votes. I would like to know if he gets the Union vote since he continued stealing from the State Employee Retirement Fund, without paying any back that Politians stole. Hogan took away a major medical benefit from Retired State Seniors. He has the Democrat vote it seems since he did not fulfill his conservative promises when he was campaigning before. 100% NO Hogan. No matter how much money he has is not enough for this liar to buy my vote. Write-ins for Santa Clause would be a more conservative vote.

Well I have looked at the 8 Democrats running for governor and do you think any of them can beat him?
If so, who ? Would love some input .

Democrat = gun control. Republican = gun control. A famous quote from hildabeast "at this point what difference does it make?"

He won't be needing all that money if he doesn't survive the primary. Talking about how much money he has for the general election doesn't mean squat if he doesn't get on the ticket. Remember Wayne Gilcrest? As a Maryland Republican, he was voting with the Democrats in Congress, and against our Republican president. We threw him out in the very next primary, when he started doing that. The democrats held the seat for one term, then we got one of our own back in office, in the next election. Hogan is following the same path.

Hogan should just go ahead and switch parties. He has become a liberal to get liberal votes in a liberal state. Dems will vote for him because he has become one of them.

Are any MD guard members actually deployed to the border? I don't recall MD being asked to send any. Thought the request was for units from states adjacent to the border. If so, just words.

Not happy with everything he's done, BUT, compared to any and all Democrats running, he's the only choice that makes sense.

There are no Democrats worth voting for; they range from crazy to completely nuts!

Hogan has been able to induce the Annapoliscrats to get closer to the center, while keeping faith with Republican values and candidates.

All any conservative voter needs to ask themselves is: Do I favor an imperfect Larry Hogan or a perfect Democrat? It's an easy answer.

Hogan actually has to act like a Republican to get past the primary. So far, he is failing at that. Looking forward to the general election is putting the cart in front of the horse.

Maryland has had far, far worse governors. Waiting in the wings are people who could be worse than the worst.

Count your blessings, Maryland.

Well I can't vote him out in the primary, so I guess I will have to vote him out in the general election. I really wonder if he thinks the democrats are going to vote for him again? He sure has tried to act like one of them during his first 4 years. He hasn't really tried to act like the Republicans that put him on the ballot the first time.
