  3. A year ago I was homeless in Salisbury. There are not adequate shelters to deal with the problem, and the shelters that do exists treat the homeless like trash.

    1. Thank goodness you are no longer. Go give back to the services that helped you..some "homeless" are not actually homeless it's another ploy on the system. Some homeless are so picky and ungrateful about the free food, housing situations. It's not easy for the personnel who work and volunteer to serve either .

    2. You are so right, Chris. That woman that runs halo is really really weird..and she runs that place like her own personal serfdom.

  7. Not everyone is fortunate. No one knows their stories to say "get a job" and not be a bum, etc. That being said, how about the pay raises and folk festival money go to helping our own community. Maybe crime would go down. Hungry get fed. Streets are cleaner. Jobs are given because people have the funds and support to get out of the streets.

  8. Homelessness in most cases is due to mental illness and a choice in other cases.

    1. Homeless veterans with PTSD or anxiety due to what they have seen or experienced. This should never be a homeless veteran in this country. They gave the ultimate sacrifice.

  9. I'm thinking this is the same person we saw sleeping on the sidewalk at the Gander Mountain building. Most people are only a paycheck or 2 away from this situation. :(

    2. You are very right. Bachelors degree and working on masters and only 1 paycheck away from being homeless. Food is what we make last the longest!

  10. There are several shelters in Salisbury....why is this individual on the street? Go to Village of Hope, Shore-Up, Christian Shelter or Hudson Health for information and or assistance. No need to be on the street.

  11. 4:12 so just hand out money to people. Sounds rather socialist of you.

    1. Not sure where I said that. Simply said to put that money directly into the community...not hand wads to jobless. No direct handouts. Rather help the full shelters or start a work program for them if there are more than the shelters can handle. Being empathetic isn’t a bad thing.

  12. 414, that is a pretty broad statement. Homelessness is a lot of things.

  13. Not even so much mental illness but substance abuse. They have burned all their bridges with family and friends so end up homeless. Years ago my daughters while attending Catholic School near Philadelphia used to volunteer at a soup kitchen. It was mostly homeless who came to eat. Almost all of them smelled of alcohol. A sister of one of the men who was a regular used to bring their mother to the hall to visit with her son. It was very sad. They really cared about him but couldn't let him live with them. He was an alcoholic and would steal from the mother. He would pass out on the sofa. He would urinate and defecate in his pants while passed out on the furniture and bed. We were told many tried to go to shelters but because they couldn't pass a breathalyzer were refused.

  15. I see them everywhere particularly on the north side of town. I have also seen a lot of them around the old Super Giant or Acme.

There are increasing numbers in and around Salisbury. I don't know what gives - as there are a lot.

  16. Jakes Bury is starting to look like a 3rd world country. Wait until the mongrels feast on the rich zuppies coming for the fork festival and guess who,s ass is going to get eaten.

  17. Persons with no modern skills or an education can't survive. You will soon be seeing whole families of White American Patriots living out the dream in shelters, clinics and card board boxes and voting Republican if they have a valid ID and and no address just because they stubbornly believe their looser life is relevant and better than minorities or immigrants .

  20. Their OC vacation season doesn’t start until May and that’s when they will begin working on their 2018 tan. At that time, they’ll hop on a Shore Transit bus to OC for the summer.

    Just be patient.

  21. Let's just say unless you have been homeless you shouldn't be saying ugly and negative things. I am a single parent with a job and a vehicle but bc of the HIGH rental prices in this town it's hard to find an apt or a house. I hate being in the shelter with my child but right now i hv no other choice. No family nearby.. If you are arent homeless maybe you should walk a day in our shoes and then i bet you all wouldnt be so negative...Halo is dirty and has bed bugs, christian shelter at least with a family you can hv your own room and not sleeping on a cot near everyone..

Hey Buddy, it's not my fault that you were homeless. There are jobs out there which means you work 2 to 3 jobs like many of us do. I noticed a year later you are back on the internet. Must have not been such a bad life.

  26. Do these people have the RIGHT to be unproductive, poor, and homeless, if that's their CHOICE? One should think about their RIGHT to live as they please. Yes, many, if not most, homeless people, like the one in the picture, have obvious mental problems, when they choose to live like that. Shelters are available, but they are often rejected by the homeless, BECAUSE THEY HAVE RULES. Rules like no drinking or drugs, and they have to be sober. Rules like they have to bathe. All things they don't want to do, or follow. Sleeping in the parking lot is freedom to them, with no one telling them what to do. So think about it, do they have the RIGHT to live like that, if that is their choice? Many homeless don't think is is anyone's business to try and change their behavior.

  27. Maybe he's just resting up so he can enjoy the national folk festival! Since that festival seems to be the most important thing Salisbury needs to focus time and resources on.

    ReplyDelete
  28. 4:44 what if they are all full which is the case . Do not judge you have no idea their story or what happened and what resources are available. Come with me one day to the tent cities in da bury and listen.

  29. Do you know how much it cost to rent a home ,they want you to pay for it .its nuts anything over 900 should not be allowed and that is part of the reason why there are homeless .very sad that people want you to buy their houses for them ,if you have pets or children even worst

    ReplyDelete
  30. the cost of housing is the DaBury is far off when you consider what the pay scale is for most that live here. The rent is to damned high! Jake how about you work on that vs the damned folk festival or damned bikes that nobody will ride, unless they are no deposit, no return....hell even these homeless cant benefit from those cheap buck bikes. They have no damned phone for the app. Stupid is as stupid does. DaBury is being run by the clown brigade.

  33. I don't have any sympathy for someone who is homeless long term because laziness, drinking or drugs but we shouldn't have people sleeping on the street either. An old warehouse that has some type of heating and plumbing would atleast get them off the street and out of the weather.Of course there would have to be a cop in there every night.
