Antibiotics can cause increased risk of sunburns

MACON, Ga. -- Taking antibiotics during the summer months can increase the risk for sunburns.

Pharmacist Sarah Haddock said antibiotics like Cipro or Macrobid for infections can cause extreme sunburns after someone is exposed to sunlight.

"The molecule in the medication works with the cells in your skin," Haddock said. "When the UV light comes in contact with your skin for some reason it activates that medication that makes the skin more sensitive to the sun that's causing a sunburn."

The medicine bottles have warning labels on them, but not many notice.

The Way Chicago "Works": Graft, Corruption, Political Connections, Bribes, Unions

Those who wish to understand how things work in Chicago need only read a single article that ties everything together: Teamsters boss indicted on charges of extorting $100,000 from a local business.

A politically connected Teamsters union boss was indicted Wednesday on federal charges alleging he extorted $100,000 in cash from a local business.

John Coli Sr., considered one the union’s most powerful figures nationally, was charged with threatening work stoppages and other labor unrest unless he was given cash payoffs of $25,000 every three months by the undisclosed business.

The alleged extortion occurred when Coli was president of Teamsters Joint Council 25, a labor organization that represents more than 100,000 workers in the Chicago area and northwest Indiana.

Coli, 57, an early backer of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, was charged with one count of attempted extortion and five counts of demanding and accepting prohibited payment as a union official.

Coli could not be reached for comment, but a statement posted Wednesday on the Teamsters Local 727 website announced he planned to retire at the end of the month after 46 years in the union.

In the statement, Coli said he had decided it was time “to begin a new chapter” and that he wanted to spend more time with his family.

The Coli family has been active in politics for years and is well-known for spreading around union cash to various candidates. Coli and his relatives have also been accused in civil lawsuits in both state and federal court of running the union like a racket — accusations they have vehemently denied.

Research Team Slams Global Warming Data In New Report: "Not Reality... Totally Inconsistent With Credible Temperature Data"

As world leaders, namely in the European Union, attack President Trump for pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement which would have saddled Americans with billions upon billions of dollars in debt and economic losses, a new bombshell report that analyzed Global Average Surface Temperature (GAST) data produced by NASA, the NOAA and HADLEY proves the President was right on target with his refusal to be a part of the new initiative.

According to the report, which has been peer reviewed by administrators, scientists and researchers from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.), and several of America’s leading universities, the data is completely bunk:

Letter to the Editor: Calvert County Sheriffs: “I was just going to work…”

The following information was published online on July 14, 2017, by Adrian A. Hall. A link to the original content can be found HERE.

Hello, my name is Adrian A. Hall. On Monday, July 10th, 2017 at around 6:45am, the start of an unnecessary day began.

I am a member of the Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers apart of the International Union of Bricklayers and work as a mason for JT Thorpe & Son at IHI Kiewitt located at Covepoint in Lusby, Maryland.

I drive a 60 mile commute every morning which is around an hour of a commute one way for me. I leave between 5:30AM and 5:45AM. I arrive at an offsite where I park my car usually between 6:45AM and 7AM. I get on a shuttle bus that takes me from the offsite parking lot to the work site, where I walk the rest of the way and sign in before 7:30AM. I get back home sometime around 7PM. We work ten hours a day (scheduled) at five to six days a week.

So on Monday, July 10th, 2017 at around 6:45am, I was within the last 10-15 miles or so before I got to work. Google Maps said that I’d arrive around 7:05am, so I was within a good time. I was on route 4 (which turns into route 2) behind a minivan and a few other cars for a while (maybe 20 miles or so). A Calvert County Sheriff vehicle made a right turn onto my road ahead of traffic. As a response, all cars slowed down to a bit under 50MPH in a 55MPH zone.

Archaeologist Discovers Proof for Biblical Vineyard of Naboth

According to Breaking Israel News, Dr. Norma Franklin, one of the leaders behind the Jezreel Expedition, established that the Jezreel Valley was indeed a major wine producing area in biblical times, which lines up with the story of Naboth's vineyard as found in 1 Kings in the Bible.

Laser technology was used to analyze data from the area, which discovered several wine and olive presses, including over 100 bottle-shaped pits carved into the bedrock, which Franklin believes were used to store wine.

Franklin, who said that she is not religious, attested that the Bible can be used to help in such research.

"As an archaeologist, I cannot say that there was definitely a specific man named Naboth who had a particular vineyard," Franklin told BIN. "The story is very old but from what I have found, I can say that the story as described in the Bible quite probably could have occurred here in the Jezreel."

Bank Secrecy Act Regulations Explained

By Bonner & Partners analyst Joe Withrow

The Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) requires US financial institutions to assist federal agencies in preventing money laundering.

All financial institutions are required by law to keep records of all financial activity, including cash purchases of “negotiable instruments”—checks, money orders, etc.

These records are open to government inspection at any time. They are also subject to periodic audits by both federal and state governments.

All financial institutions must immediately file a Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) with the federal government whenever a customer engages in transactions the institutions deem strange or inconsistent with normal behavior. This is open to interpretation.

Touching message in a bottle found along Cape Lookout National Seashore

HARKERS ISLAND, N.C. (WNCT) – People looking for signs of sea turtles along the beaches of the Cape Lookout National Seashore found an unexpected item — a message in a bottle.

Inside the bottle was a message saying, “There is nothing in this jar worth money! Ashes are in the anchor charm. These are the ashes of our brother who passed away March 9, 2017. He loved the ocean so we wanted to send him on a journey! Once you receive & read this please take a picture and e-mail or Facebook it to us with your location! Thank you! Now throw me back & send me on my journey!”

But those who found the bottle noticed it was in bad condition, and likely couldn’t survive another trip at sea. So, biological technicians with the national park decided to contact the family directly to find another way to honor Justin.

Doubt Surfaces On GOP Investigator's 'Suicide

A Wall Street analyst who spoke to Peter Smith the day before he reportedly committed suicide told the Daily Caller News Foundation there were no indications the Chicago businessman and anti-Clinton political investigator was about to take his life.

Gov’t Red Tape Costs Every Nuclear Plant $63 Million Annually

Red tape and government bureaucracy is killing the U.S. nuclear industry by costing the average power plant $63 million annually, according to a new study by the American Action Forum.

The study found that government regulations cost the nuclear industry $15.7 billion or about $219 million per power plant. Most of this cost was in complying with government regulations about the safe disposal of nuclear waste, but government mandated paperwork alone accounted for $63.3 million annually.

”Nuclear power faces growing regulatory hurdles that do not reflect the improving safety and innovation within the industry,” Philip Rossetti, an energy data analyst involved in the research, told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “A good federal policy should be focused on addressing the more significant issues, like licensing a nuclear waste repository, rather than just doubling down on regulation.”

Historic Wisdom

"Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did, and it never will. Find out just what people will submit to, and you have found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them; and these will continue till they have resisted with either words or blows, or with both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they suppress." —Frederick Douglass (1818-1895)

Rainbow Mafia Politicizes Gender-Reveal Parties

This is why we can't have nice things. An unborn baby's sex organs are now the purview of social justice warriors.

Is it a boy or a girl? It used to be such an innocent question. Now, mothers aren’t just politically incorrect for throwing a gender-reveal baby shower; they’re also considered by the Left to be a danger to their children. Even more troubling, the American medical community is starting to comply with the homosexual agenda.

Like everything else in the twisted ideology of progressivism, words no longer mean what they mean. Gender has been co-opted so that it no longer has anything to do with one’s anatomy. Instead, gender is a malleable political term describing how one feels about oneself, and it’s used to advance a political and cultural agenda.

On the surface it seems innocent. It always does. The notion that we shouldn’t force our children to think of themselves as boys or girls may seem harmless at first, but there’s a broader objective: to completely alter the social structure of our civilization and to undermine our values.

As a society, we used to believe that failing to properly raise children as boys or girls was emotionally and psychologically damaging. Now the Left is successfully turning that thinking on its head.

In an article for Cosmopolitan magazine, Diane Stopyra opines, “My discomfort with the gender-reveal party goes beyond my standard objection to fanfare surrounding gestational markers — which is primarily that, because we don’t celebrate non-pregnancy-related milestones with the same enthusiasm, we’re reinforcing the archaic notion that a woman’s value rests squarely in her ability to grow tiny humans. The issue with gender-reveal parties in particular is: Aren’t they potentially damaging to said tiny humans?”

Leftmedia Blasts AG Sessions for Speech to 'Hate Group'

Religious liberty requires a robust defense of the freedom of conscience. And freedom of conscience is expressed in an individual’s right to either accept or reject various beliefs, ideas or behaviors as their own conscience dictates.

In other words, an essential and foundational component of freedom of conscience is the right to be discriminating.

For a society to espouse a commitment to protect individual freedom, that society must allow for individuals to choose to discriminate against ideals and behaviors they find objectionable, so long as they don’t prevent another individual from also engaging their liberty of conscience.

This week the mainstream media ran stories criticizing Attorney General Jeff Sessions for delivering a speech to a “hate group.” NBC News’ headline read, “Jeff Sessions Tells ‘Hate Group’ DOJ Will Issue Religious Freedom Guidance,” and ABC News’ even more biased headline read, “Jeff Sessions addresses ‘anti-LGBT hate group,’ but DOJ won’t release his remarks.” So what was this dastardly “hate group” Sessions addressed? It was the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), a civil liberties organization dedicated to defending Americans’ right to religious freedom. Hardly a “hate group.”

How did the Leftmedia come to libeling a long-respected civil liberty organization?

Representatives from Heath’s Crab Pots in Crisfield will be on hand at the White House on Monday for an event touting American made products and manufacturing, officials said.

Details of the event were slim, but the White House said Vice President Mike Pence, members of the cabinet and lawmakers will join President Donald Trump for the event.

“By offering each state the opportunity to showcase a Made In America product, President Trump reaffirms this administration’s commitment to further encourage manufacturing in the United States that will further stimulate the economy and create jobs,” the White House said in a statement announcing the event.

Self-fueling boat sets off from Paris on 6-year world trip

A boat that fuels itself is setting off around the world from Paris on a six-year journey that its designers hope will serves as a model for emissions-free energy networks of the future.

Energy Observer will use its solar panels, wind turbines and a hydrogen fuel cell system to power its trip. The 5 million-euro ($5.25 million) boat heads off Saturday from Paris toward the Atlantic.

The futuristic-looking 30.5-meter (100-foot) boat will rely on sun or wind during the day and tap into its hydrogen reservoirs at night. It produces its own hydrogen through electrolysis of sea water.

Originally designed in 1983, the boat enjoyed a successful career in open-sea sailing races before skippers Frederic Dahirel and Victorien Erussard and a French research institute converted it into the Energy Observer project.

Were Democrats Working With the Russians?

Because of left-wing outrage and media obsession, the nation has focused on whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russians to influence the American election. In the hype and hysteria, we have been distracted from an obvious issue. If, as the Obama administration claimed, the Russians merely wanted to undermine American trust in the democratic process, would not they work both sides against each other? It is looking more and more like that may be the case.

To understand the tangled details around Donald Trump, Jr.‘s meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, we first have to examine the Magnitsky Act. That act was named for Sergei Magnitsky, a Russian lawyer who exposed massive tax fraud in Russia at the government level. For that exposure, the Russian government arrested Magnitsky, tortured him, and left him to die in jail. The international outrage was overwhelming and a bipartisan group in Congress passed the Magnitsky Act.

The legislation allowed, in part, the Department of Justice to seize American assets of Russian oligarchs exposed by Magnitsky. The Russian company Prevezon Holdings had its assets seized. It set about hiring lawyers, political strategists, and others to get is money back. Prevezon made three very interesting hires.

Prevezon hired Natalia Veselnitskaya, the lawyer who subsequently met with Donald Trump, Jr.

Prevezon also hired Rinat Akhmetshin, described by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) as a former Soviet counterintelligence officer who specialized in disinformation and propaganda campaigns.

Akhmetshin also retained Veselnitskaya as lawyer for a third party group that claims to be a Human Rights group.

Prevezon and Akhmetshin also worked with a Democrat opposition research group called Fusion GPS.

Here is where the web starts to tangle..

Why Republicans Exempted Their Own Insurance From Obamacare Rollback

Senate budget rules are giving opponents of the rollback of the 2010 health care law an easy way to attack Republicans for hypocrisy.
The Senate GOP may not really want to immunize their own member and staff health plans from their health care policy changes, but because they are seeking to bring their bill to the floor under the expedited budget reconciliation process, they have little choice.

Sen. Ted Cruz has already unveiled a fix to nullify the exemption, but that bill would take 60 votes to overcome any filibuster attempts.

“While this exemption was included in the Senate health care bill out of procedural necessity, we must still be diligent in ensuring that Members of Congress are treated just like other Americans under this law,” the Texas Republican said in a statement. “This is an issue of fundamental fairness. Lawmakers are not above the laws that they pass and I believe that it is crucial that Members of Congress abide by the same laws that their own constituents follow.”

3 Examples That Show How Common Core Is Destroying Math Education In America

Whenever you let federal bureaucrats get their hands on anything they are probably going to ruin it. During the Obama administration, the Department of Education spearheaded a transformation of American education that was absolutely breathtaking. Over a period of about five years, Common Core standards were implemented in almost every state in the entire nation. Unfortunately, this has resulted in a huge step backward for public education in this country. Common Core has been called “state-sponsored child abuse”, and it is a big reason why U.S. students are scoring so poorly on standardized tests compared to much of the rest of the world.

According to Wikipedia, at one point 46 states had adopted Common Core, but now some states are having second thoughts…

46 states initially adopted the Common Core State Standards, although implementation has not been uniform. At least 12 states have introduced legislation to repeal the standards outright,[1] and Indiana has since withdrawn from the standards.

Sadly, many parents don’t even understand how dramatically our system of education has been tampered with. In her book entitled The Education Invasion: How Common Core Fights Parents for Control of American Kids, Joy Pullmann exposes how the Gates Foundation has been one of the key players in the effort to get Common Core introduced into classrooms all over America…

Colleges enrolling record number of Chinese students

[This article was originally published in 2011]

Dayton, Ohio — International students are enrolling at some local colleges in record numbers, due in large part to a nationwide surge in undergraduates from China.

Wright State University, Miami University and University of Dayton this year all shattered their previous enrollment records for international students, and Chinese students accounted for 46 percent of their combined foreign-student populations, according to the schools.

About 1,268 Chinese students are attending the three universities this year, and enrollment of Chinese students across Ohio continues to grow at a time when enrollment of students from other countries has slowed or declined, a new report found.

Local college officials said international students promote cultural diversity on campus and expose American students to foreign perspectives that will prepare them for life and work in a global marketplace. They also inject $662 million into the Ohio economy, according to Open Doors 2011, a report released this week by the New York-based Institute of International Education.

As for the foreign students themselves, officials said they value degrees from U.S. colleges because the country’s higher education system is revered worldwide, and there are limited top-notch educational opportunities in their homelands.

College officials said it is important to have a strong Web presence to market their programs, but they also rely on international recruiters and partnerships with colleges abroad.

Wright State this year signed dual-degree agreements with four universities in China that allows Chinese students to seek graduate degrees from the school. The college also has a student-exchange agreement with Dalian Jiaotong University in China in which the school sends students to Wright State to complete master’s programs in engineering and business.

[With much of our sensitive military technology falling into the hands of the Chinese government in recent years, it is important to note that the universities mentioned above all have excellent engineering programs, and are all located near one of our military bases where major defense-related research and development is done. Engineering students in such programs often gain access to our leading-edge technology through university partnerships with the Department of Defense and their associated contractors throughout the US. Perhaps it's time to take a very close look at that. --Editor]

Trump and Ivanka Trump get boost from army of females

President Trump and his daughter Ivanka are getting some much welcomed positive press thanks to a social media craze that has slowly been growing over the past few months.

A number of women have begun posting images online which show them modelling clothing from Ivanka's eponymous fashion label or Trump-branded wears while voicing their support for the commander-in-chief.

It is a diverse array of clothes, and the most popular choice by far this summer is a one-piece women's swimsuit in metallic blue that reads: 'Make America Great Again.'

There is even a fan-run Instagram page that gathers all the images featuring ladies in Trump-branded swimwear these days, along with those who are scantily clad while also wearing his trademark hat, Babes For Trump.

These posts have no official hashtag yet, with the women using a variety of words and phrases, including '#womenfortrump,' '#ivankatrump,' and '#hillaryforprison' to name a few.

Real ‘refugees’? White South Africans facing genocide

WASHINGTON – When President Nelson Mandela took power in South Africa after apartheid, he proclaimed “each of us is as intimately attached to the soil of this beautiful country as are the famous jacaranda trees of Pretoria and the mimosa trees of the bushveld – a rainbow nation at peace with itself and the world.”

Over a decade later, the “rainbow nation” of South Africa is unraveling at an alarming rate, as race relations deteriorate and white farmers face genocidal levels of violence.

Since the 1990s, between 2,000 and 4,000 farmers have been murdered.

White South African farmers are several times more likely to be killed than South African police officers or even American soldiers serving in Iraq.

“Often, they only count the farmer and not his wife and children that were also attacked or murdered,” South African missionary Charl Van Wyk told WND in an interview.

Dem Rep Paid Sister's Law Firm $80,000 from Campaign Funds this Year

Democratic Rep. William Lacy Clay (Mo.) has paid a law firm owned by his sister more than $80,000 from his campaign funds so far this year, newly released campaign finance records show.

Clay Jr. For Congress released their second quarter figures late Friday, which shed light on the campaign's financials spanning from April 1 to June 30.

The records show that Clay has continued to disburse tens of thousands to the Law Office of Michelle C. Clay LLC, a Silver-Spring, Md.-based firm that is owned by his sister. The firm is located just outside of Washington, D.C.

Michelle Clay's firm was cut four checks totaling $18,100 from Rep. The firm was paid another $18,000 at the beginning of May and pulled in an additional $18,000 during June, according to the filings.

During the first quarter, which spans from Jan. 1 to March 31, Clay's campaign paid $27,000 to his sister's firm. Clay's committee reports spending $115,000 since Jan., which means that the firm has accounted for more than 70 percent of his total campaign expenditures this year.

Pelosi: Restricting DOD Funds From Being Used For Gender Transition Treatments Hurts National Security

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi slammed Republicans for trying to “rip away” health care for transgender service members.

In a statement Thursday, Pelosi said the “disgusting” attempt to restrict funds from being used to provide gender transition treatments is “unprecedented, unacceptable and undermines our national security.”

“Republicans should be ashamed: instead of protecting the men and women who risk their lives to defend our freedoms, they are fighting to rip away the health care of thousands of brave service members,” Pelosi said in a statement. “This cowardly Republican amendment targeting transgender men and women in uniform effectively bans these patriotic Americans from serving their country.”

Missouri GOP Rep. Vicky Hartzler filed an amendment to the House National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which successfully moved through the Rules Committee.

Plans to Dump Radioactive Fukushima Water into Pacific

In the latest sign that the area surrounding the destroyed Fukushima power plant is far from ready for the return of human inhabitants, locals and fishing groups are criticizing a plan to release water containing radioactive tritium from the ruined Fukushima power plant into the ocean, according to the Telegraph. Officials of Tokyo Electric Power Co., the operator of the plant, say tritium poses little risk to human health and is quickly diluted by the ocean. But for some, the plan undoubtedly dredges up uncomfortable memories from 2013, when it was revealed that 300 tonnes of radioactive material had been leaking into the Pacific Ocean from the devastated plant every day. It was also revealed that TEPCO had known about the leaks, but had tried to cover them up.

TEPCO has been tasked with decommissioning the plant, and has been using robots to find and clean the melted nuclear fuel debris that is believed to be creating exorbitant levels of radiation in the area surrounding the plant. Though the company had to pull some of its robots out in February after radiation reached such high levels that not even machinery could function correctly, according to theInternational Business Times.

Uproar Over Education Department Officials' Approach To Campus Sexual Assault

Hello! No shortage of education headlines even in the height of summer for our weekly roundup.

DeVos meets with "men's rights" groups on campus sexual assault

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has indicated that she will loosen Obama-era guidance and practices on the department's pursuit of campus sexual assault cases. She met Thursday with survivors' advocates and feminist groups, as well as three so-called "men's rights" groups, to advise her on this process, drawing criticism and concern from the survivors and advocates.

As Slate reported, one of these, the National Coalition for Men, has published the personal information of women who have accused men of rape, and its leader has labeled women the instigators of domestic violence. The second, SAVE: Stop Abusive and Violent Environments has lobbied against domestic violence protections. AndFamilies Advocating for Campus Equality takes the position that current campus sexual assault guidelines are skewed against the accused.

Candice Jackson, whom DeVos appointed as the top enforcer of sexual assault cases at the Department of Education, seemed to agree with that position in remarks to The New York Times on Wednesday. Campus rape "accusations — 90 percent of them — fall into the category of 'we were both drunk,' " she said in part. She apologized later that same day, calling the remarks "flippant."

In a rare press availability after Thursday's meeting, DeVos told reporters that "lives have been ruined" by allegations of sexual assault.

"No student should be the victim of sexual assault," she added. "No student should feel unsafe ... and no students should feel like the scales are tipped against him or her."
