Baltimore City Councilman Brandon Scott is formally calling for all four of Baltimore’s Confederate-era monuments to be torn down.
In a resolution being introduced Monday, Scott calls for “the immediate destruction of all Confederate Monuments in Baltimore.” In the resolution, he cites the white nationalist rally in Charlottesville over the weekend that left three dead.
“Monuments with ties to the dark side of America’s past have come under increased scrutiny in recent years with cities across the country debating on whether they should be removed,” Scott wrote. “Following the acts of domestic terrorism carried out by white supremacist terrorist groups in Charlottesville Virginia this past weekend cities must act decisively and immediately by removing these monuments. Baltimore has had more than enough time to think on the issue it’s time to act.”
Mayor Catherine Pugh said Monday she has contacted contractors about removing the statues.

Nobody brings up the fact that the White power groups had legally acquired permits to hold a peaceful demonstration in Charlottesville, approved by the town officials. It was not until the opposition to there demonstration showed up with only one thing in mind and that was disruption and violence. Its almost like being African American or being involved with "BLM" no matter what your race just gives you carte blanche to do anything you want under the "Social Justice Warrior" disguise. It reminds me of a term "DoubleThink" coined by George Orwell in his novel 1984. Defined as "the acceptance of or mental capacity to accept contrary opinions or beliefs at the same time, especially as a result of political indoctrination." Basically only those deemed to have a righteous cause by these "Social Warriors" are allowed to act I.E burning down the city of Baltimore or Killing Police across the country. How are these acts viewed as anything other then criminal terrorism and hate crimes, Because there was a cause? Seems to me the only cause for any of this is internet fame and political agenda because if anybody wanted to truly make a difference these actions would not even be considered as acceptable. If I could only teach common sense I would be a very rich Black man.

ReplyDeleteThe mayor of Baltimore is an idiot, like each of her predecessors within memory.
While her city's residents kill each other at a record pace she wants to join the crowd of history revisionists by eliminating a number of statues and monuments that have been in place for decades. Total cost to approach $1 million.
Let's be honest; most people in the city have no clue about any of the statues and couldn't hold forth in an intelligent fashion about why they are there. But the Taliban and ISIS have made it fashionable to try to scrub history by destroying any physical links to the past so Democrats must fall over themselves to keep pace.
Fact is that MD was a border state and just barely stayed in the Union. Marylanders fought for and died in the Civil War wearing both blue and gray. Some of the bloodiest battles occurred in Maryland. Those facts present a teachable moment for the mayor but she seems clueless.
The upset about Roger Taney's Baltimore statue seems most misplaced. He was the 5th Chief Justice of US Supreme Court and served from 1836 to his death in 1864. He was Treasury Secretary and Attorney General before. In sum, a very distinguished public servant.
The Dred Scott decision of 1857 is the focus of the outrage. As a judge, he didn't write the law(s) and the decision was 7-2 with each justice writing an opinion. The decision was effectively nullified in 1868 by passage of the 14th Amendment. So, teachable moment all around.
Mayor Pugh - Shame on you.
Its hard to remember where you came from when the past is gone. History may repeat it self.
ReplyDeleteThey are like ISIS and should be stopped.
ReplyDeleteIsis does it, they condemn it. They do it, it's the right thing to do. He is an asinine fool.
