Perdue Farms Signs CEO Action For Diversity & Inclusion Pledge

SALISBURY, Md., (July 26, 2017) --- Perdue Farms’ CEO Randy Day recently signed the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion pledge, putting Perdue Farms among 250 companies nationwide tapping into the collective power of the business community to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion is recognized as the largest CEO-driven business commitment to advance diversity and inclusion within the workplace. Members recognize that addressing diversity and inclusion is not a competitive issue, but a societal issue that CEO’s can play a role in addressing.

“Diversity can be measured by the numbers, but inclusion is a measure of our culture,” said Day. “An inclusive workplace empowers all associates to share the unique insights that match our external shareholders. Teamwork has long been one of our company values, with the belief that ‘we work together to accomplish something greater than one could alone. That ‘together’ will come from an inclusive workplace.”

Day and his fellow signatories agreed to the following actions:
  1. Continue to cultivate workplaces that support open dialogue on complex, and sometimes difficult, conversations about diversity and inclusion.
  2. Implement and expand unconscious bias education.
  3. Share best known – and successful – actions.

As part of that sharing, the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion website includes a case study on Perdue’s Inclusion Council.

About Perdue Farms
We’re a third-generation, family owned, U.S. food and agriculture company. Through our belief in responsible food and agriculture, we are empowering consumers, customers and farmers through trusted choices in products.

We focus on continuously improving everything we do, constantly learning, and sharing those insights across different production methods. That innovative approach is driving change throughout the company and onto farms. This continuous advancement is leading us toward our vision of becoming the most trusted name in food and agricultural products.

The PERDUE® brand is the number-one brand of fresh chicken in the U.S., and Perdue AgriBusiness is an international agricultural products and services company. As we approach our 100th anniversary in 2020, our path forward is about getting better, not just bigger. We never use drugs for growth promotion in raising poultry and livestock, and we are actively advancing our animal welfare programs. Our brands are leaders in no-antibiotics-ever chicken, turkey and pork, and in USDA-certified organic chicken. We’ve increased our support for the family farm by creating new markets, including specialty crops. Through agricultural services, we give farmers more options for the acre, including conversion to organic production and products and services that increase the sustainability of conventional agriculture. A proper term for actions of this sort is 'virtue signaling' because it is a hollow promise with very little chance of actually affecting the workplace. But it has the very important effect of getting the SJW crowd off your back because you signed up.

Most of the signatory companies are pretty good workplaces to start with, in comparison, so a small amount of paper shuffling to comply is cheap insurance. Pretty good doesn't mean perfect; all companies have some areas that can improve.

Forced diversity and inclusiveness programs always come at the cost of performance and quality...just look at the federal government!

This will have a long-term negative effect on this company, reputation and product!

Quotas? That's nice.
