Jake Day & Facebook: Constituent Censorship Unbecoming!

By Thornton Crowe

Actions have consequences... so does censorship!

Many Salisbury citizens have complained about Salisbury Mayor Jake Day blocking them on Facebook. It makes one wonder: Is this a sign of the Mayor's lack of maturity as it denotes his inability to handle criticism and verbal discourse or is he merely trying to block out negativity? Mind you, many of those blocked, have never posted a response to anything Day's said on Facebook, but have disagreed with him in public forums or on blogs. Meaning, he's never had a face-to-face confrontation but still chooses to block the person because they don't agree with him.

As we read in Friday's article here on Salisbury News about the Virginia Judge making the stunning decision that politicians are not allowed to ban citizens from their pages, it would seem the judge agrees with the Constitution - whereas Jake Day does not.

Unlike President Trump's situation, where paid bots are making threats of physical violence against him and his family including his 12 year old son, Day doesn't have this type of posts anywhere on his social media accounts. Pointing out his incompetence is nothing close to said threats endured by the President! Complaints about snafus like budgeting $100K for an $850K job (disposal of contaminated soil) are justifiable because he shouldn't make them if he really holds an advanced degree in Urban Planning!

This censorship issue is not limited to Facebook followers. Day also tunes out many area leaders, proving his inability to work with the County on issues of great importance like firefighter situation. In reality, he doesn't seem to have the finesse it takes to be in any political position - much like a bull in a china shop, he runs roughshod over everyone who doesn't agree with him.

Behavior Unbecoming of an officer much less a Mayor...

If you think about his Facebook image to the right, posted after his election (by default), he opens himself up to much scrutiny while illustrating his limited ego capacity because what serious politician posts this themselves? Do you think even the loopiest folks like Maxine Waters would post this on her Facebook page? Even with her obvious diminished mental capacity, she knows better, but Jake lacks that same discernment filter.

We should've known once this was posted on his Facebook what we were dealing with. Hopefully the State Democratic Committee will also take this red flag as a warning to back off. If they're smart, they will - because this is a dumber version of O'Malley, if we even thought it possible.

Perhaps it's time for Jake to re-think his future in politics as he seems better suited for positions where he has minimal, if any, interaction with the public. It's clear he can't keep his narcissistic tendencies on a leash and he's no Donald Trump!

If the abovementioned ruling takes effect in Maryland (note: the Fourth District has jurisdiction over this area, too) Jake will be forced to either unblock or get off Facebook altogether. It wouldn't hurt feelings either way as many find his actions on and off social media prove he's unfit for his current position.

Well said!

I am one of the people blocked from the Boy Mayor's accounts. I can tell you, (since he and others have no clue) we have spammed a ton of comments where people have attacked Jake's Wife. There is no place for spouses and children and we will not allow any such comments.

I can also say, (very early on) Jake and I had an open dialog. He'd call me completely pissed off at an article I had published but once he realized that everything I stated was in fact 100% factual and true he immediately calmed down. However, it soon turned into censorship on his behalf simply because we disagreed.

I love how Liberal get all pissed off at any kind of censorship, yet they are the first to cut people off and attempt to hide it.

I'll add, (not mentioned in this article) that the Salisbury Police have also cut us off. While we retain the largest viewing audience of ALL news outlets, one would think for the safety and best interest to the community they'd have open arms and send us press releases.

The Tilghman/Ireton/Day leadership is an absolute joke, seriously. We ultimately get the information before anyone else anyway, (which really ticks them off) but I'm sure there are some things we don't see.

Going to be kind today. He's an entitled jerk who was able to spend a great deal of time hanging around fancy campuses being marinated. Depth and discernment appear to have eluded him. Graft on a bit of military service, and voila, the current prog candidate prototype. Based on his roundabout plans you could say he's tearing it up from one end of Main St. to the other.

The same vacuum that permitted his election persists; qualified, motivated people have mostly moved outside the physical boundaries of the 'bury. Ominous situation.

Was Jake Day a forceps baby? That could be the issue.

I guess that so-called judge in Virginia does not know what liberty means. Anyone should be allowed to control their facebook page.

9:17,

Good point '' for example, both Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen are now gone, but we still have idiots like Ireton, Heath, Boda and Day.

Wait until auto driving cars hit the market and you can sleep and watch tv while you travel.....who would want to live in the city then?

928 you been drinking already this morning? It's not even noon but your comment sounds like a drunken sailor. Sober up, puppy.

Repeal Jake Day.

Joe, Jake doesn't care that you censor comments that defame his wife and him needlessly. He also doesn't know about the many comments we don't let through calling for his demise. He doesn't appreciate anything you do to protect him or his wife from unjust public ridicule. He just likes to run around thinking he's got some moral superiority or some other such nonsense. If he knew how many nasty comments we spam on his behalf he would be horrified. He's serious misguided in his attitude. If he were smart, he would work with you not against you, but he chooses the latter; so be it.

I personally believe Day, (much like Ireton) only surround themselves with "yes men" as friends and associates.

This is a very tiny group of people, (tree huggers) who show up at every event because it's a complete agenda for snowflakes.

Once someone steps up to the plate to run for Mayor you'll see one of two things. They'll, (Good Ol' Boys) either rig the election or for once someone will legitimately win and take back your City with wisdom and experience.

On another article someone stated they have been turning in the Good Ole boys to federal law enforcement. We can only hope that network will be busted for their criminal behavior. Then Salisbury can go back to the citizens and quit being a cash cow for the corrupt few.

9:43, An investigation going all the way back to the Tilghman administration needs to be done.

To 9:25. You missed the reason why the Federal District judge in Virginia ruled against the politician. She was using her FB account to publish and discuss county business, in effect making it a bona fide method of communicating public business. That is why the plaintiff prevailed.

FB accounts by public officials that don't get into public business are not affected. But our politician class are largely wrapped up in 'I'm so important' so it's in their DNA to self-promote 24/7.

Two other points. The defendant quickly realized she'd made a mistake, and unblocked the guy a day later. He still filed the Federal suit despite actually suffering less than a thimbleful of 'harm'.

Second. The Federal District Court in Maryland might find a different conclusion if faced with slightly different facts but they'd give a lot of weight to the VA decision.

I agree with you on the general notion of FB privacy.

If you put things out on FB you forfeit your privacy, which makes people posting personal crap on FB complaining about their privacy violations so idiotic. Jake posted that stupid picture and then has a hissy when people don't appreciate his braggadocious behavior. Even Democrats in Salisbury aren't too impressed with him at this point but his over-inflated ego doesn't accept their low opinion of him based on his actions.

9:57 AM Isn't it astounding how many people comment without even reading the article, and then need others to condense it because of their stupid comments.

Thank you for your contribution

1007 most people are headline readers and don't bother to read the meat in any article. That's why the media uses click bait headlines to grab people's attention.

Wouldn't it be an interesting experiment if TC posted a salacious title and then the article contain placeholder text. See if anyone even notices. I bet most wouldn't and would still comment on the 'article.'

Anonymous said...

1010 they'd never notice.

When you run unopposed what do you care what voters think? You don't need them to win by default. If I were Jake I'd be embarrassed I won by default but different strokes. No hard to win first place if you're the only one in the race.

With the last three idiots you'd have to wonder why we even bother having a mayor at all. What's the point? They're just do-nothing ideologues who do nothing but line their own pockets at taxpayer expense. They're corruption to the cores of their existence. Why bother having a criminal head the city at all?

Lemmy, I have thought for some time you were a staff member. Now confirmed.

Joe you and several others know Jake day and his true character and aspirations. What kind of immature jackass actually thinks that blocking someone on Facebook is a measure of showing disgust and dissatisfaction? To me it shows the obvious immaturity and shallowness. Personally don't see the infatuation with the whole "fakebook" agenda. Come on people are you actually starting to believe the fairytale lives you try to impress others with? @9:17 you absolutely nailed Jake day and his circus attempt at a political life. They will absolutely best him alive in any kind if campaign, debate platform. It probably be hard to watch even with so much dislike and animosity toward this young man. He needs to go back to daddy's sheltered little world take a cushy job at perdue and enjoy. He can't handle getting out in the actual streets, bring an actual man for the public, he has no clue except what he reads online. Daddy day laid the ground work for him but "Jacob" doesn't have the stones to actually make it happen. As he's shown this is s popularity contest, having to be accepted by others, so if he gets his panties in a wad you'll be blocked on social media. Wow Jake what will you do if actually put in a combat zone not just a bullshit deployment you brag about, who you gonna block then?? Your a never ending source of comic relief. Remember this Suzie " followers need to be liked, leaders don't give a damn"

Maybe we would be better off ceding control of the city of Salisbury to Salisbury University.

He is tremendously insecure and extremely immature. Other then knowing the inside and outside of the traffic courts he has no life experiences and it shows immensely. He is making a fool of himself and his family should really talk him into resigning so as to save face. He can return to politics when he grows up and learns to be professional.

I don't believe Day surrounds himself with yes men.
I believe the YES MEN created and promoted Day to be their man!

There is a big difference.
Day is a tool of the local elites in real estate and construction business.

I for one tried to talk to Jakey @ one of our former Mayor's Roundtable meetings for neighborhoods to get together, I had his attention for all of 10 seconds when I tried to ask him some questions, and he got up and left to speak I guess to someone more important. After he got elected I tried to send him e-mails to try to get him to continue the Roundtable Meetings as it gave neighborhoods a chance to share info and help one another, but alas no answer. I also tried that with our States Attorney here in the "bury" and I must say I also never got a reply from him unless it was to thank me for a compliment.

If these people want to look good and be respected they should try the same.

It seems to make sense someone like Jake day would be so caught up in something so fake and ridiculously animated like Facebook. What the hell is wrong with people that try and friend so many people when they know and the rest of us know how bogus and ridiculous it is to try and carry yourself that you have 1500 friends you follow and have interaction with these people enough you consider them a friend? Maybe that's the problem Day come out of the clouds and realize and I mean realistically understand you'll be lucky to count real friends on one hand

Good morning "fake day", hope you still had a few people to correspond with on " fakebook." This and twitter were created soley for and by dipsticks like yourself.wanted to wish you a good worship service this morning looking forward to seeing you show your support for your church and sporting your new "hope dealer" tee-shirt around Salisbury.
