Chesapeake Bay recovery update: Good news, bad news

The good news is Maryland appears to be mostly on track with its goals to clean up the Chesapeake Bay.

The bad news is the state is lagging behind in reducing nitrogen in The Bay and “still has a long way to go,” according to the Environmental Protection Agency. (See the full report below)

An over-abundance of nitrogen causes excessive algae to grow, which blocks out the sun and prevents plants from growing in the water.

“In fact, excessive nitrogen flushed into the Bay by polluted runoff has actually increased by four percent in Maryland since 2009, according to the EPA's data,” according to a release from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

Forms for becoming Illegal

FORMS ARE GOING FAST- SIGN UP TODAY!

Becoming Illegal (Actual letter from an Iowa resident sent to his senator,)
The Honorable Tom Harkin
731 Hart Senate Office Building
Phone
(202) 224 3254
Washington DC , 20510

Dear Senator Harkin,

As a native Iowan and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the Department of Homeland Security in an effort to determine the process for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you.
My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to illegal alien stems from the bill which was recently passed by the Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill is accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the United States for five years, all I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000 fine and income taxes for only three of the lastfive years. I know a good deal when I see one and I am anxious to get the process started before everyone figures it out.

Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes every year so I'm excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of taxes in return for paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can apply to be illegal retroactively? This would yield an excellent result for me and my family because we paid heavy taxes in 2008 and 2009.

Additionally, as an illegal alien I could begin using the local emergency room as my primary health care provider. Once I have stopped paying premiums for medical insurance, my accountant figures I could save almost $10,000 a year.

Another benefit in gaining illegal status would be that my daughter would receive preferential treatment relative to her law school applications, as well as 'in-state' tuition rates for many colleges throughout the United States for my son.

Lastly, I understand that illegal status would relieve me of the burden of renewing my driver's license and making those burdensome car insurance premiums. This is very important to me, given that I still have college age children driving my car.

If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become illegal (retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary forms, I would be most appreciative.

Thank you for your assistance
Your Loyal Constituent, (hoping to reach 'illegal alien' status rather than just a bonafide citizen of the USA )

IMPAIRED DRIVERS ARRESTED THIS WEEKEND BY STATE POLICE TEAM AVERAGED TWICE THE LEGAL LIMIT

Maryland State Police Press Release
06/15/2015

(PIKESVILLE, MD) – For the second time this spring, a trooper with the Maryland State Police impaired driving enforcement team actually had a drunk driver run into him, as the team arrested more than one dozen drunk drivers, one of them twice, who had an average blood alcohol content of more than twice the legal limit.

Maryland State Police troopers are trained in how to look for impaired drivers, but too often impaired drivers are finding the troopers by running into them. Troopers from the State Police Impaired Driving Reduction Effort, or SPIDRE Team, had that happen over the weekend, the second time it has occurred this spring.

As SPIDRE Team troopers were working in Montgomery County this past weekend, one trooper was out with an impaired driving arrest while a second trooper was parked behind him to assist, shortly after 2:00 a.m. on the morning of June 14, 2015. A driver on westbound University Blvd, east of September Lane, sideswiped the patrol car and continued on. Troopers stopped the car a short distance away and arrested the driver, who was also impaired.

In another incident, a driver was stopped by a SPIDRE Team trooper on I-95 for traveling 94 mph in a 65 mph zone. The driver said he was on his way to work. He was arrested for impaired driving and his blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit. He was transporting his seven-year-old child at the time.

One driver was arrested for impaired driving and, after being charged, was released to his wife. Hours later that same evening, SPIDRE Team troopers saw him driving again, while exhibiting signs of being an impaired driver. He was stopped and, upon further investigation, was arrested a second time for impaired driving. His blood alcohol content was over twice the legal limit during both of his arrests.

During the weekend, the SPIDRE Team arrested 13 impaired drivers, four of whom were repeat offenders, while focusing their patrols on Rts. 650, 29, 97, and 193, Piney Branch Road, Carroll Avenue, I-495 and I-270 in Montgomery County. The average blood alcohol content of those arrested was .17. The legal limit for impaired driving in Maryland is .08.

Throughout the rest of Maryland over the weekend, troopers arrested another 67 impaired drivers. There is no excuse for impaired driving. Please do not drink and drive.

Groups with opposing views protest following McKinney pool incident

Dueling protests in McKinney came close to a fight Friday night, but police stepped in and separated the two groups.

A group holding “Black lives matter” signs took their protest to the streets to march to the courthouse, while a “Back the blue” contingent waved flags and counter-yelled.

Next Generation Action Network organized one of the protests, opposing police brutality, just as they did the rally on Monday.

Speakers called for the arrest of former McKinney corporal Eric Casebolt, who was seen throwing down a 15-year-old girl after a raucous pool party altercation last Friday.

He resigned on Tuesday, but so far, no charges have been filed against him.

The father of one of the teens involved in the pool incident spoke on her behalf.

“My daughter is in recovery mode right now, but I am not going to stop until she gets the justice that is due to her,” he said. “It is not right for grown men to feel they are entitled to mishandle young girls.”

For others, their protest was against opponents.

“Everybody here agrees we are American citizens and we have a right to protest what we believe in without thinking we are slaves and we need to go back to somewhere,” said protester Jacqueline Walker.

On the other side, the other group of protesters waved flags, adamantly supporting McKinney police.

“You saw one video,” said protest organizer Ed Coet. “You didn't see the whole thing. We don't know and they don't know if this police officer is guilty. Let the police do their investigation and if he's guilty, then let justice prevail.”

One man open walked up with an assault rifle across his chest showing his support for the back the blue crowd.

Police Department Wanted Taylor Swift to See a Video. When She Did, the Singer Knew She Had to Act

It all started with a video.

A local police department produced a video about a 13-year-old Taylor Swift fan who was diagnosed with cancer late last year and, thus, unable to attend the singer’s Philadelphia concert.

The video attracted local attention — in addition to Swift’s, who invited Victoria Marsh, who also has Down syndrome, backstage over the weekend before performing at a stop on her “1989 World Tour.”

Created by the Dover Police Department, the video explained that Marsh was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer after feeling pain in her ankle. The video was viewed more than 1.4 million times on Facebook.

Arlington Cracks Down on Salty Language

Uttering some of the more expressive words in the English language will cost you up to $250 if you say them in Arlington, now that county officials have upped their fines on public uses of profanity. The Arlington County Board just approved a measure increasing penalties for public intoxication and blue language from $100 to $250.

Even if Arlington is sacrificing its reputation as an urbanist’s dream community, its leaders have not given up their mission to clean up its residents sometimes-naughty antics. The code change adopted during Saturday’s board meeting came after the Arlington Police Department reported making 664 arrests for public inebriation and foul-mouthed talk in 2014.

What Did They Think Would Happen? Transgender MMA Fighter Destroys Real Female Opponent

Critics are scrutinizing mixed martial arts (MMA) competitor Fallon Fox, after the transgender fighter gave her opponent a concussion and broke her eye socket.

Fox defeated her opponent, Tamikka Brents, by TKO at 2:17 of the first round of their match. Brent’s eye injury resulted in a damaged orbital bone that required seven staples

In a post-fight interview this week, Brents told Whoa TV, “I’ve never felt so overpowered ever in my life.”

“I’ve fought a lot of women and have never felt the strength that I felt in a fight as I did that night. I can’t answer whether it’s because she was born a man or not, because I’m not a doctor,” she stated. “I can only say, I’ve never felt so overpowered ever in my life, and I am an abnormally strong female in my own right. ”

Fox’s “grip was different,” Brents added. “I could usually move around in the clinch against…females but couldn’t move at all in Fox’s clinch.”

Obama releases 2 bin Laden bodyguards 4 others from Getmo

Just in time to bolster terrorist forces in Yemen, Obama has decided to release six more terrorists from the Guantanamo Bay detention center. Included in this round of releases are two alleged Osama bin Laden bodyguards, that will be transferred to Oman, the Pentagon said Saturday. The terror detainees are all from neighboring and embattled Yemen. The group departed Friday from the U.S. detention center, at a Naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, created in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks to get terror-suspects off battlefields.

This is the first time in roughly the past five months that Guantanamo suspects have been transferred, as Congress considers new restrictions on such moves. Obama campaigned in 2008 to close the facility. The new transfers mark the departure of more than half of the 242 detainees who were at the facility when Obama was sworn into office in 2009. The number is now 116.

National Security Council spokesman Ned Price on Saturday repeated the Obama administration’s argument that keeping open the facility weakens national security by draining resources, damages U.S. relations with key allies and partners and emboldens violent extremists. Not to mention that Obama would like nothing better than to give the base bake to aging Cuban communist Fidel Castro before he leaves office. “As the president has repeatedly made clear, the administration is determined to close the” facility, he said. “We are taking all possible steps to reduce the detainee population at Guantanamo and to close the detention facility in a responsible manner.”

Two teens mauled in separate shark attacks at North Carolina beach

OAK ISLAND, N.C. (ABC News) - Two teenagers were mauled in separate shark attacks on the same stretch of North Carolina beach today, both suffering life-threatening injuries, local officials said.

A 13-year-old girl lost a part of her arm when she was bitten by a shark in an attack that occurred around 4:40 p.m. in Oak Island, a town about 30 miles south of Wilmington, according to Brunswick County officials.

The girl lost part of her left arm and may lose her left leg, Oak Island Mayor Betty Wallace said in a Facebook post.

Just over an hour later, EMS received a call that a 16-year-old boy was attacked on beach roughly two miles from where the girl was attacked, and Wallace said he may have lost his arm.

Brothers Mow Lawn To Keep Woman From Going To Jail

RIESEL,Texas (KWTX) - An arrest warrant for a Central Texas woman ends with an act of kindness from four brothers.

"It's a summer day, we don't have season passes yet to Hawaiian Falls. What else could we do but go out and help some people," said Blaine Reynolds, one of the boys who helped out.

On Tuesday, the Reynolds boys saw News 10's report about Gerry Suttle, the 75-year-old Riesel woman who has a warrant out for her arrest because her grass was too high.

Even though they didn't know Suttle, they decided to load up their mowers and come mow her lot.

Extra Officers Added To Monitor Water-Based Music Festival

BERLIN – An on-the-water music festival planned for Fourth of July weekend could bring as many as 10,000 people to the Isle of Wight Bay.

The Boaters Aid Music Festival, set for July 3-5, will bring acts like Jo Dee Messina, Heart by Heart and The Guess Who to a barge stage just off the Isle of Wight Nature Park, which is located off Route 90. The event’s website encourages attendees to come by boat to “tie one on and have a nauti cool time.”

Organizer Allen Barzak says he’s spent the past year and a half planning the event — which is to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital — to make sure it goes off smoothly.

“I’m not here to create problems,” he said.

Barzak originally wanted to set up a stage at the Isle of Wight Nature Park and have festival-goers pull their boats up to watch the show. When the state told him last year he couldn’t set up a stage on the land, he decided to put it on a barge.

Lessons From L.A.'s Failed Fast-Food Ban

After Los Angeles banned the expansion of fast-food places in some parts, obesity actually increased.

In the fight against obesity, urban leaders have proposed everything from menu-labeling to soda bans to prohibitions on trans fats. So far only a scant number of bans or restrictions have been implemented across the country, making it difficult to gauge policies’ effectiveness. But that’s slowly starting to change.

One of the most sweeping initiatives -- and, it turns out, one of the least successful -- was Los Angeles’ fast-food ban. The 2008 measure prohibited the opening or expansion of fast-food restaurants in a part of South L.A. that had high obesity rates. “Ultimately, this ordinance is about providing choices -- something that is currently lacking in our community,” Jan Perry, the councilmember who proposed the ban, said at the time. (Perry was term-limited out in 2013.)

Despite intense lobbying from the restaurant industry and national news stories questioning government overreach, the measure was implemented.

But obesity rates in South L.A. didn’t go down, they went up. And they did so faster than in other parts of Los Angeles. The results are detailed in a recent study led by the RAND Corp. and published in the journal Social Science & Medicine. The ban “may have symbolic value,” said Roland Sturm, RAND senior economist and the lead author of the study, in a press release,“but it has had no measurable impact in improving diets or reducing obesity.”

Much of the ban’s failure has to do with how the ordinance was crafted. For one thing, it only applied to freestanding chain restaurants, so new fast-food joints were still free to open in strip malls or other shared spaces. It also didn’t affect existing restaurants, other than prohibiting new drive-thru windows and additional floor space. Since the ban, fast-food chains have opened at about the same rate in South L.A. as in other parts of the city. “There was a complete disconnect between the justification and the policy,” wrote Sturm and researcher Aiko Hattori.

The move was intended to be part of a larger effort that included attracting more grocery stores and farmers markets -- that hasn’t yet happened, City Councilman Bernard Parks, who co-authored the zoning ordinance, told the Los Angeles Times. In South L.A., as in many other low-income neighborhoods, there just aren’t many options for healthy, affordable food.

To understand what policies do curb obesity, a team of Drexel University researchers completed an exhaustive review of studies evaluating various public health experiments. They found that policies that improve the nutritional quality of foods, such as trans-fat bans or limits on the availability of sugary products, can be effective. The research showed less promising results for building supermarkets in underserved areas and setting nutritional information requirements.

The Los Angeles ordinance represents one of the rare local policy interventions specifically targeting unhealthy foods. In 2013, a few Austin, Texas, city council members wanted to study the possibility of banning fast-food restaurants in designated zones where children congregate. That proposal was voted down. Last year, a court struck down New York City’s high-profile attempt to ban oversized sodas. More recently, though, Berkeley, Calif., voters approved a 1-cent-per-ounce tax on sugar-sweetened beverages, making it the first U.S. city to pass a punitive tax on sodas.

The bottom line is that the fight against obesity will require a more comprehensive solution than imposing a single ban or a new tax. “There’s not going to be any one policy that fixes the problem,” says Susan Babey, who studies obesity and dietary behavior at the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research. “It’s going to have to be a set of policies that address a number of issues.”

The officer pulled over the driver near Cleveland for speeding. Suddenly the driver jumped out of the car and walked right into traffic on a busy highway, reportedly yelling "just kill me!"

Police say the driver's blood alcohol was nearly four times the legal limit. No one was hurt.

Report: Hack Of Government Employee Records Discovered By Product Demo

Security tools vendor found the breach during sales pitch.

As officials of the Obama administration announced that millions of sensitive records associated with current and past federal employees and contractors had been exposed by a long-running infiltration of the networks and systems of the Office of Personnel Management on June 4, they claimed the breach had been found during a government effort to correct problems with OPM's security. An OPM statement on the attack said that the agency discovered the breach as it had "undertaken an aggressive effort to update its cybersecurity posture." And a DHS spokesperson told Ars that "interagency partners" were helping the OPM improve its network monitoring "through which OPM detected new malicious activity affecting its information technology systems and data in April 2015."

Those statements may not be entirely accurate. According to a Wall Street Journal report, the breach was indeed discovered in April. But according to sources who spoke to the WSJ's Damian Paletta and Siobhan Hughes, it was in fact discovered during a sales demonstration of a network forensics software package called CyFIR by its developer, CyTech Services. "CyTech, trying to show OPM how its cybersecurity product worked, ran a diagnostics study on OPM’s network and discovered malware was embedded on the network," Paletta and Hughes reported.

And, according to federal investigators, that malware may have been in place for over a year. US intelligence agencies have joined the investigation into the breach. But it's still not even clear what data was accessed by the attackers.

Meanwhile, the breach has triggered outrage from unions representing federal employees. In a letter to OPM Director Katherine Archuleta, American Federation of Government Employees president J. David Cox expressed displeasure at the way OPM had handled the breach, calling the 18 months of credit monitoring and $1 million liability insurance OPM is offering federal employees "entirely inadequate, either as compensation or protection from harm."

And he expressed concern about the extent of the breach.

Two Akron police officers risk their lives to save 44-year-old man from fire at Adelaide Blvd home

AKRON, Ohio - Two Akron police officers risked their lives to save a man from a house fire just before 2 a.m. on Tuesday.

Officers Chris Crockett and Derrick Jackson arrived on the scene about five minutes before fire crews at 1922 Adelaide Boulevard. A 911 caller had reported that a man was not leaving the house.

Jackson, a rookie officer, was first inside the home and could hear 44-year-old Herbert Friedlein coughing, but couldn't locate him.

"It was dark. Smoke was everywhere. I was trying to get on the ground as low as possible to try to see someone. I couldn't see anything still. There was so much smoke going on," Jackson said.

For Jackson, who served as a Marine reservist in Afghanistan, the mission to save Friedlein was personal because the officer lives just one street away from the victim.

Patrol cars converted for public safety aide duties

Similar to what Seinfeld’s Newman taught us about certified versus registered mail, all police work is a matter of public safety, but not all public safety matters require police.

Residents and visitors may have noticed over the past week that a number of Ocean City Police Department cars now feature magnetic stickers that block out the word “police” and replace it to read “public safety.”

These vehicles are being used not by sworn police officers, but rather by the increased number of public safety aides the department has hired this year to compensate for a decline in qualified seasonal officers.

“Since we had a lower number of seasonal officers this year, we hired more PSAs, more than we traditionally have,” said OCPD Public Information Officer Lindsay Richard.

Suicide Rates of Female Military Veterans Called 'Staggering'

New government research shows that female military veterans commit suicide at nearly six times the rate of other women, a startling finding that experts say poses disturbing questions about the backgrounds and experiences of women who serve in the armed forces.

Their suicide rate is so high that it approaches that of male veterans, a finding that surprised researchers because men generally are far more likely than women to commit suicide.

"It's staggering," said Dr. Matthew Miller, an epidemiologist and suicide expert at Northeastern University who was not involved in the research. "We have to come to grips with why the rates are so obscenely high."

Though suicide has become a major issue for the military over the last decade, most research by the Pentagon and the Veterans Affairs Department has focused on men, who account for more than 90 percent of the nation's 22 million former troops. Little has been known about female veteran suicide.

The rates are highest among young veterans, the VA found in new research compiling 11 years of data. For women ages 18 to 29, veterans kill themselves at nearly 12 times the rate of nonveterans.

Are Schools Overregulating What Students Eat?

A recent incident involving Double Stuf Oreos highlights the debate about how much supervision of children is too much.

Just by sending a frustrated tweet, a suburban Philadelphia mother set off a tsunami. “Insanity!” the woman fumed. “I have to sign a permission slip so my middle-schooler can eat an Oreo.” She was telling the truth, and her tweet inadvertently launched a national debate over whether a lawsuit-crazed society had finally gone too far.

The cookie in question was actually a Double Stuf Oreo. The permission slip came one day in March from Darlene Porter, a teacher at Welsh Valley Middle School in the suburbs of Philadelphia. The purpose: an experiment on the earth’s tectonic plates.

According to the permission slip, students would “model plate movement and observe earth’s features,” using the cookie to “simulate the 3 types of plate boundaries.” But then came the crucial part. “The students may eat the Oreo after the investigation if this is okay with you. The students do NOT have to eat the Oreo if they do not wish to do so.” A warning at the end: “Without a signed permission slip, my child understands that he/she will not be able to sample the Oreo.”

'Sing a Little Louder' Film Stirs Christians Into Action

The worshippers in the church could hear the cries of people in the train car nearby drifting into their gathering.

The discomfort was plain on their faces as they listened to the captive Jews banging on the inside of their car, screaming for help. But not one of the parishioners heeded the distressed calls of their fellow human beings. Not one of them ran outside to offer help.

Instead, the pastor raised his voice so the congregation could hear the end of his sermon. When it came time to sing, the pastor instructed the choir and the congregation to sing a little louder to drown out the wailing prisoners.

That scene took place in Nazi Germany in 1943. A train carrying a load of Jewish prisoners to a concentration camp broke down outside a small Christian church. One young boy wandered outside to see what all the commotion was about, and what he saw haunted him forever.

Now an old man, his recollection of the incident formed the basis for “Sing a Little Louder,” a short movie that premiered Wednesday at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Executive Producer Jason Jones hopes the film will stir Christians in the West to speak out on behalf of their persecuted brethren in the Middle East.

“What we’ve done is with this film, we’ve attached it, we’ve connected it to the plight of religious minorities today in the Middle East, and so our hope is we can use this film to get the church to use their voice to speak out today for Christians in Iraq, in Syria, in Egypt,” Jones told WND in an interview.

American Christians may not be literally ignoring cries for help as the German parishioners did, but they have become far too complacent, according to Jones.

“We’re not singing like they did, but we’re distracting ourselves with Bravo and the Food Channel and “Monday Night Football,” when instead, as the church … we should raise our voices for those who can’t protect themselves,” said Jones, the president of Movie to Movement.

Former Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., attended the premiere of “Sing a Little Louder” and addressed the audience before the screening.

“This is one of the most powerful films I’ve ever seen,” he declared.

Farah: Finally, The Truth About 'Palestinians'

Is there a de facto “Palestinian” state in the Middle East today?

Yes, there is.

And there has been one since 1946 – two years before the state of Israel came into existence.

It encompasses three-quarters of the territory previously set aside for the nascent Jewish state.

Today, that “Palestinian” state, populated by up to 80 percent of those who identify themselves as “Palestinians,” is called Jordan. It was actually created as a state for a then stateless Palestinians.

So the question should be: Why is the world infatuated with the idea of creating another so-called “Palestinian” state?

The answer is simple: The simple historical truth has been obscured and distorted over decades to the point at which most people have no understanding of reality.

Interestingly, the truth was inadvertently blurted out recently by an unlikely whistleblower – Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, one of the leaders of the push for the creation of a second Palestinian state in Judea, Samaria and Gaza.

The same-sex marriage bait-and-switch

You may recall Brendan Eich. The co-founder and CEO of Mozilla was dismissed from his company in 2014 when it was discovered that, six years earlier, he had donated $1,000 to California’s Proposition 8 campaign. That ballot initiative, limiting marriage to one man and one woman, passed with a larger percentage of the vote in California than Barack Obama received nationally in 2012.

No one who knew Eich accused him of treating his gay coworkers badly—by all accounts he was kind and generous to his colleagues. Nonetheless, having provided modest financial support to a lawful ballot initiative that passed with a majority vote was deemed horrible enough to deprive Eich of his livelihood. Which is one thing.

What is quite another is the manner in which Eich has been treated since. A year after Eich’s firing, for instance, Hampton Catlin, a Silicon Valley programmer who was one of the first to demand Eich’s resignation, took to Twitter to bait Eich:

Hampton ‏@hcatlin Apr 2

It had been a couple weeks since I’d gotten some sort of @BrendanEich related hate mail. How things going over there on your side, Brendan?

BrendanEich ‏@BrendanEich

@hcatlin You demanded I be “completely removed from any day to day activities at Mozilla” & got your wish. I’m still unemployed. How’re you?

Hampton ‏@hcatlin Apr 2

@BrendanEich married and able to live in the USA! .  .  . and working together on open source stuff! In like, a loving, happy gay married way!

It’s a small thing, to be sure. But telling. Because it shows that the same-sex marriage movement is interested in a great deal more than just the freedom to form marital unions. It is also interested, quite keenly, in punishing dissenters.

But the ambitions of the movement go further than that, even. It’s about revisiting legal notions of freedom of speech and association, constitutional protections for religious freedom, and cultural norms concerning the family. And most Americans are only just realizing that these are the societal compacts that have been pried open for negotiation.

Same-sex marriage supporters see this cascade of changes as necessary for safeguarding progress against retrograde elements in society. People less deeply invested in same-sex marriage might see it as a bait-and-switch. And they would be correct. But this is hardly new. Bait-and-switch has been the modus operandi of the gay rights movement not, perhaps, from the start, but for a good long while.

It began at the most elementary factual level: How many Americans are gay?

1,000-foot water slide draws 3,000 people In Baltimore

It's not every Saturday that several thousand people don bathing suits to slide down Hillen Road on tubes.

As temperatures neared 90 degrees, men, women and children of all ages zipped down a 1,000-foot water slide set up in the 3500 block of Hillen Road. Hoses sprayed people with cold water as they shot down. A puddle greeted them at the end. Saturday's event was the first time that Utah-based organizers brought "Slide the City" to Baltimore. All 3,000 tickets were sold before Friday night, the organizers said.

"It was great," Robert Bland, 51, said after his fourth trip down the slide. "With all the bad press we've gotten around here, we needed some positive news. This is a black, white, Asian and college student event. We're all here."

State Department Has No Record of Clinton IT Security Training

Cybersecurity experts troubled that Clinton and two top deputies apparently skipped training

The State Department has no record of former Secretary Hillary Clinton or her two top aides receiving IT security training while Clinton led the department, the Washington Free Beacon has learned.

In response to a Freedom of Information request filed by the nonprofit Competitive Enterprise Institute in March, State said it could not locate any record of Clinton, chief of staff Cheryl Mills, or deputy chief of staff Huma Abedin undergoing any sort of IT security training.

“One former, senior executive branch personnel official contacted me to point out the requirement that appointees take this training, and that if Mses. Clinton, Abedin or Mills had deigned to follow the law, a record of this would exist,” explained CEI senior fellow Chris Horner, who filed the FOIA request.

“He also noted, however, that if anyone was to turn up their noses and refuse the training—and be permitted to—these are the folks. We now know this to be the case,” Horner said in an email.

The request also asked for “all separation documents … completed or submitted” by Clinton, Mills, or Abedin. State returned no responsive documents to that request.

The department previously stated that it had no record of Clinton signing such separation documents, designed to ensure that former employees do not retain confidential information after their departure. State’s reply appears to confirm that neither Clinton nor her top aides submitted those documents.

Marilyn Mosby's Father Was A Crooked Cop

Marilyn Mosby has made it widely known that she comes from a long line of police officers, five generations of law enforcement to be exact. The 35-year-old Baltimore city state’s attorney’s father, mother, grandfather, and uncles have all at some point worked as cops — a history which Mosby cites to push back against the claim — as Fox News’ Griff Jenkins put it during a recent interview — that Baltimore’s finest believe the rookie prosecutor does not have their backs because of how she’s handled the Freddie Gray case.

“I come from five generations of police officers,” Mosby responded to Jenkins. “That’s absurd.”

But while it’s true that numerous Mosby family members have worn the badge, a thorough look reveals a more complicated picture of that law enforcement background than she has let on in public.

Start with Mosby’s father, a former Boston police officer named Alan James. In 1989, James and a fellow officer named Dwight Allen were arrested and charged with assault and battery for their role in several armed robberies in a high-crime area of Boston.

According to a Boston Globe article at the time, James, Allen and another suspect flashed badges and brandished guns while shaking down drug dealers. The officers identified themselves as “renegade police” and were reportedly drunk. During one robbery, one of the men fired his gun, though nobody was hurt.

James was arrested while on duty at a police station in Dorcester but was acquitted of charges in the case in 1991. After acquittal he was immediately fired for conduct unbecoming an officer, according to the Baltimore Brew, an independent newspaper.

Mosby has not publicly acknowledged this mark on her family’s policing legacy. Though, according to the Brew, she acknowledged her father’s troubled past in a biography written for her campaign for state’s attorney.

“My dad was a crooked cop,” Mosby said, according to the document, which was not released to the public. “He confiscated drugs and money from the dealers on a regular basis.”

Iran Wants A Nuclear Deal to Avoid An All-Out War it Cannot Win

As the world powers seek to conclude a 'comprehensive agreement' with Iran by the end of June, the onus is on Iran to reach a nuclear deal. However, under the highly imperfect deal on the table now, Iran would give up nothing and maintain its entire nuclear apparatus. Sanctions related to other aspects of Iran’s behavior, such as human-rights issues, support of terrorism and its ballistic-missile program would not be affected.

With all its inevitable additional imperfections, a sham deal that leaves Iran with an intact nuclear infrastructure; if signed, is a de facto recognition of the most dangerous terrorist state in the world as a threshold nuclear power.

Ideally, Iran's existing enrichment facilities would be dismantled and there would be no nuclear enrichment possible for building weapons grade uranium and an atomic bomb. But it is almost certain that President Barack Obama will accept any deal, no matter how bad, and that he is eager for one to bolster his questionable legacy. Given US capitulation to Iranian demands, Obama has just triggered the countdown to war.

Hack The Vote: Cyber Experts Say Machines Easy Targets

"Our entire democracy depends on systems with minimal, easily bypassed security.”

The recent cyber theft of millions of personnel records from the federal government was sophisticated and potentially crippling, but hackers with just rudimentary skills could easily do even more damage by targeting voting machines, according to security experts.

Voter fraud is nearly as old as elections themselves, and different states and precincts use different voting systems and machines. But in many cases, even the electronic ballots could be manipulated remotely, according to a new report by the Commonwealth Security and Risk Management for the Virginia Information Technologies Agency. That report found that the AVS WINVote machines Virginia has used since 2002 have such flimsy security that an amateur hacker could change votes from outside a polling location.

“This means anyone could have broken into the machines from the parking lot,” said Cris Thomas, a strategist with the Columbia, Md.-based Tenable Network Security, one of the nation’s leading cyber and enterprise security firms. “Our entire democracy depends on systems with minimal, easily bypassed security.”

The report was commissioned after one precinct in Virginia reported “unusual activity with some of the devices used to capture votes,” during last November's statewide elections.

“Security deficiencies were identified in multiple areas, including physical controls, network access, operating system controls, data protection, and the voting tally process," the report found. "The combination of critical vulnerabilities in these areas, along with the ability to remotely modify votes discretely, is considered to present a significant risk. This heightened level of risk has led VITA security staff to conclude that malicious third party could be able to alter votes on these devices. These machines should not remain in service.”

Mississippi and Pennsylvania decertified the machines years ago, because they used an outdated version of Windows that had not been updated since 2004 and had default passwords that could allow for wifi access, Thomas noted.

Hillary's Grassroots Campaign of 'Free Help'

Experienced, adult political operatives who want to do grassroots work for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign currently have no choice but to work as unpaid, full-time interns, raising new questions about how the White House frontrunner runs her own labor force as she prepares to double down on young people’s role in the American economy.

The Clinton campaign is currently in the midst of what multiple Democratic sources described as a “hiring freeze” for paid organizing positions in the early campaign states where the former Secretary of State is laying the foundations of a massive national staff, with few if any paying jobs available for field operations.

Clinton’s camp has made headlines about its frugality and a hard sell on its fellowship program, which allows aspiring politicos between the ages of 18 and 24 to spend this summer as full-time campaign volunteers. The result, however, is the human-resources reality of a campaign – one scheduled to hold at least 26 fundraisers this month alone – that isn’t just taking on college students with political science degrees but expecting political veterans to gamble their careers on her without pay.

Clinton, according to her would-be employees, has left full-time organizers with little choice but to criss-cross the country and work as “free help”.

The Guardian has identified at least five “Organizing Fellows” on Clinton’s current field team in Iowa alone who held paid positions on national political campaigns during the 2014 midterm elections.

A veteran Democratic strategist unaffiliated with any presidential campaign said he thought Clinton was sending a mixed message by hiring hundreds of advisers to focus on a policy message around income inequality, only “to hire people as interns and treat people as free labor who have already done the job before”.

“It is a really terrible way to treat the most vulnerable people on campaign staff and makes me question their leadership on everything else,” the strategist told the Guardian.

Are Liberals/Democrats Demonstrably Mentally Ill?

We have heard liberalism (aka Democrat-ism) described as a mental illness. A little research seems to prove this observation.

You need not be a goateed psychiatrist with a German accent to conclude liberals/Democrats are anti-social misfits. See for yourself; see how well liberalism/Democrat-ism fits into the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) criteria for identifying the mentally maladjusted.

While we usually think of “Psychopaths” as the occasional notorious serial killers, they are more common than we imagine. Nevertheless, the unfortunate over use of the term “psychopath” in popular culture has led people to believe they only exist in movies. This isn’t true. Statistics tell us up to 3% of men and 1% of women are psychopaths. The majority of psychopaths find ways to restrain themselves, not for concern about us but for fear of being discovered and punished for doing the vicious things they want to do.

Some (not all but some) psychopaths go into politics, many as elected Democrats.

(Review this list of traits and keep Ted Kennedy in mind..)

The DSM IV lists these traits for psychopaths. N.B. it is not necessary to possess all of these traits to be a psychopath; a preponderance of them will do.

Psychopaths are:

Selfish, callous, and remorseless in their use of others; they show:

Glibness/superficial charm (smooth-talking, engaging, and slick)

Grandiose sense of self-worth (greatly inflated idea of one’s abilities and self-esteem, arrogance and a sense of superiority)

Pathological lying

Conning/manipulative (uses deceit to cheat others for personal gain)

Lack of remorse or guilt (no feelings or concern for losses, pain, and suffering of others)

Emotional poverty (limited range or depth of feelings)

Callous/lack of empathy (a lack of feelings toward others; cold, contemptuous, and inconsiderate)

They fail to accept responsibility for own actions and live a chronically unstable, antisocial, and socially deviant lifestyle.

Moreover, psychopaths show these traits as well:

Poisonous Politics of Obamatrade Fuel Uprising

The grassroots uprising against Obamatrade dealt a blow to the corporatist establishment of Washington on Friday. More than 300 members from both parties voted to stop Obama’s globalist agenda.

But like a crack fiend who can’t give up the pipe that’s killing him, GOP leadership is vowing to stage another vote next week to bring Obamatrade back from the grave even if it means destroying the party and their own careers.

“Leadership” dare not betray its K Street paymasters.

But the rank-and-file are having none of it. Voters are outraged that the politicians who said “Elect me and I will stand up to Obama” betrayed them and voted to give the president even more power.

There is no question that Obamatrade will be an issue in next year’s elections. Rep. Steve Palazzo, R-Miss., is already under fire for supporting Obamatrade. After Palazzo waffled on opposing Obamatrade, conservative state Sen. Michael Watson blasted him.

“Why would any Republican vote to give President Obama more authority when we know what he’s done with executive actions and abuse of power?” Watson asked, according to Breitbart. Palazzo was forced to grovel before angry constituents after voting to give Boehner another term as speaker earlier this year. His Obamatrade vote could be the straw that breaks his jelly-like spine.

Leadership reassured members they had nothing to fear from supporting Obamatrade because they have overwhelmingly Republican districts. But there is no safe district for someone who betrays their country. Palazzo and others could well find their Obamatrade votes sparking a primary challenge.

Primaries are unpredictable because they are low turnout elections. A few thousand, even a few hundred, motivated voters can end the career of the most senior entrenched incumbent. And an ample campaign war chest does not guarantee an incumbent’s re-election. Former Majority Leader Eric Cantor outspent Dave Brat 25-to-1. Dave is now known as Rep. Brat – and he opposes Obamatrade.

The politics of Obamatrade are poisonous. Poll after poll shows a majority of Americans across the political spectrum opposes these phony “free trade” deals – and conservatives oppose them in even greater numbers than Democrats.

Dallas shooter's father: My son hit breaking point

DALLAS (CNN) —Hours before a sniper shot him during a standoff with police, James Boulware was helping out at his father's house, mowing the lawn and promising to come back again soon.

Now Jim Boulware sobs as he sits in his home, knowing his son will never return. The federal agents who brought bomb-sniffing dogs as they searched for evidence are gone. So is the armored van his son bought on eBay. And for the father of the man whose son died after unleashing a hale of bullets at police headquarters Saturday, a devastating reality is beginning to sink in.

"Everyone of us has a breaking point. ... He hit his," Jim Boulware told CNN.

Boulware says his son was boiling with anger over a custody battle and blamed police for taking his son away.
