While Mom & Dad Still Help, Students Are Taking On More Of The Costs Of A College Education

The image of students riding high on the hog, flush with cash from mom and dad while partying through college might not be so true to life these days, as a new study shows that students are taking more financial responsibility for paying college costs, whether from their own pockets or through borrowing.

Dirty Air Conditioner Filters Could Be Blowing Your Money Away

Has anyone else noticed that it's been pretty hot this summer? As such, your air conditioner is probably getting quite the workout. But it's important to make sure you're getting the most out of it as you can so it can do its very best to cool you down instead of just running up your electric bill. That goes for your dehumidifier as well. One easy way to optimize those appliances? Cleaning out your dirty filters.

Food Stamp Ad

The Agriculture Department has cancelled a soap-opera-style ad campaign that let Spanish speakers know about food stamps. The radio dramas followed characters as they considered applying for the food-assistance program. The "novelas" came under fire from conservatives. The Daily Caller noted USDA was not making comparable soap operas in English. USDA told the conservative website: it removed the ads because they were 4-years old and did not meet the department's standards for outreach. It said its ad campaigns target communities at greatest risk of hunger.

Federal Judge Imposes Racial Quota on FDNY, Responding to Minorities Who Failed Entrance Exams

A federal judge is ordering the New York City Fire Department to implement racial quotas to address grievances from minorities who failed entrance exams.

On July 5 in Brooklyn, Nicholas G. Garaufis, a Clinton-appointed judge for the Eastern District of New York, issued a ruling that requires two of every five newly hired fireman to be black and one of every five, Hispanic -- until the department has fulfilled the court-ordered quota of 186 black and 107 Hispanic hires.

The ruling allows back pay -- totaling an estimated $128.7 million -- for minorities who failed written tests.

Clinton Set To Sign U.N. Treaty To Disarm America, Advance Global Government

On July 27 Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, acting on behalf of the United States of America is expected to sign an international treaty through the auspices of the United Nations that is known as the Arms Trade Treaty, which will be represented by the Obama Administration as being a way to keep guns out of the hands of terrorists and criminals and would have no effect on private gun ownership in America.

First of all, have you even heard about such a treaty, do you approve of an inept, anti-American agency like the United Nations having anything to do with gun control in America or anyplace else?

Secondly, we've seen the abject failure of what happens when inept politicians and bureaucrats get involved in the firearms business. Just look at what happened with Eric Holder’s, yes Eric Holder’s, it was his department and his responsibility, Fast and Furious debacle. Do you honestly think the UN would do any better as corrupt as it is?

Energy Dept. 'Unable to Locate' $500,000 in Equipment Bought With Stimulus Money

An audit conducted by the Energy Department’s Office of Inspector General was "unable to locate" $500,000 worth of equipment purchased with stimulus money by a recipient of funds distributed through the deparment's “Advanced Batteries and Hybrid Components Program,” according to an audit report published by the OIG.

The DOE said it would not be "appropriate" to release the name of stimulus-money recipient where the $500,000 worth of equipment could not be located.

The program was given nearly $2 billion in stimulus funds "to support the construction of U.S. based battery and electric drive component
manufacturing plants." As of June, DOE had "expended" about $1.2 billion of that money and had made grants to "30 for-profit manufacturers," according to the July 10 audit report.

Iowa Town Makes Web Appeal for Money to Fix Levee

An Iowa town that was flooded last year is hoping a unique email and video campaign brings a deluge of donations to help fix the levee that saved it.

The town of Hamburg, Iowa, rolled out a campaign on Monday to raise as much as $4.6 million to fix the barrier that stands between it and the unforgiving Missouri River. Last year, the levee was built up an additional 8 feet with the help of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and held back waters that reached 17 feet during a 120-day period in which the river swelled. But now, the feds say the extra dirt must either come off or the entire levee must be rebuilt permanently.

Law of the Sea Treaty Now Dead, DeMint Says

The United Nations Law of the Sea Treaty now has 34 senators opposed to it and thus lacks the Senate votes needed for U.S. ratification, a key opponent of the treaty announced Monday.

But the treaty’s main Senate proponent denies the treaty is sunk, saying plenty of time still exists to win support before a planned late-year vote.

The Law of the Sea Treaty, which entered into force in 1994 and has been signed and ratified by 162 countries, establishes international laws governing the maritime rights of countries. The treaty has been signed but not ratified by the U.S., which would require two-thirds approval of the Senate.

ANOTHER Order Of Tee Shirts Has Been Placed

Another supporter came in today proudly showing off his Tee Shirt.

We started out with about 250 Tee Shirts and as you can see the rack is almost bone dry. I don't care who you are, that's a lot of shirts and we're still 8 months away from the election.

I want to thank all of you for stopping by and showing your support. Everywhere I go I hear people talking about how they were here or there and they saw Tee Shirts. One said they were at the Baltimore Airport and saw on there. Another said they saw one over the weekend in Ocean City.

I called in another order today so we should fill back up again very soon.

The report relates that then-30-year-old Barnes had accomplished five blocks of the three-mile jog when he collapsed and was rushed to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with heat stroke and placed in intensive care due to kidney and liver failure.

Clinton Breaks World Record

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will break a world record this morning when her plane touches down at Andrews Air Force Base. It will end a 13-day epic journey. In less that two weeks, Clinton flew 27,000 miles. That's 2,000 miles more than the circumference of the Earth. She visited Europe, Asia and the Middle East. One Clinton staffer told the Associated Press: the itinerary was "especially absurd ... even for us." Some have wondered if the miles were catching up to Clinton when she suffered a coughing fit in Hanoi last week. Clinton has visited 102 countries since becoming secretary of state.

Obama Runs From Obamacare, Claims 'Stabilized Economy' Greatest Achievement

During an interview with Charlie Rose the President backed away from claiming his own health care law as his signature achievement. Instead, he claims that the non-existent stability of the American economy is his real achievement.
President Obama said his proudest achievement over the past three and a half years is stabilizing the economy, not his signature health care reform law.

The President roared only recently "The law I passed is here to stay!" and the campaign distributed "Because of Obamacare" literature at an event earlier this month. However, after witnessing the sheer unpopularity of the law the President and his surrogates are now working feverishly to distance him from it, going so far as to brand the term "Obamacare" as Racist™.

Judge Complies With 9/11 Plotters’ Request to Delay Trial For Muslim Holy Period

A U.S. military judge agreed Monday to postpone the next court hearings at the Guantanamo Bay prison for five men charged in the Sept. 11 attacks to avoid a conflict with the Muslim holy period of Ramadan.

The judge issued a short order postponing the next pretrial hearings at the U.S. base in Cuba until Aug. 22-26 at the request of all five defendants, said James Connell, a lawyer for one of the accused.

The hearings had been scheduled to run from Aug. 8-12, which fall during the last 10 days of Ramadan, a period in which devout Muslims fast during the day and pray during the night. That would make it difficult for the accused to participate in their defense, said Connell, a lawyer for Ali Abd al-Aziz Ali.

More Evidence LBJ's Great Grandkids Are Not Rocket Scientists

They beat a grandfather to death, in Rhamaland. Filmed it and posted the video on Facebook.

NBC Chicago reports:
Two more teens have been charged in the beating death of a 62-year-old disabled man that Chicago police said was recorded on a cell phone and posted to Facebook.

Police said a 16-year-old gang member punched Delfino Mora, father to 12 children and a grandfather to 23, last Tuesday in an alley in the 6300 block of North Artesian. Mora's devastated family told NBC Chicago that Mora was on his regular route of collecting cans that he sells for cash when the teens confronted him.

Nicholas Ayala, 17, of the 6300 block of North Talman and Anthony Malcolm, 18, of the 5500 block of North Broadway were both charged with first-degree murder and robbery.

Malik Jones, 16, the Latin Kings member accused of striking Mora, was charged with first-degree murder and ordered held without bail Sunday by Judge Adam Bourgeois.

Police said Jones handed his friends his cell phone to start filming then demanded money from Mora and punched him in the jaw. Ayala and Malcolm are accused of taking turns filming the video which allegedly showed Mora's head smashing into the concrete.

Mora was found unconscious and died one day later.

Sending Jobs Overseas? The Truth About the Obama/Romney Controversy

During The O’Reilly Factor’s Talking Points Memo, host Bill O’Reilly revealed the truth behind the president’s claims that Mitt Romney outsourced jobs during his tenure at Bain Capital. O’Reilly reported, “According to analysis by FactCheck.org, Bain Capital under Romney did invest in companies that did outsource. But that’s not unusual — so did the Obama administration.”

“How can President Obama attack Romney for outsourcing when he did the exact same thing?” wondered O’Reilly, who added that, “The Obama administration has continued to make billions of taxpayer dollars available to the General Electric corporation, mostly through loans but there were some grants for green energy projects. GE employs about 300,000 people. Fewer than half – 131,000 — are working in the USA. Let me repeat, less than half of GE’s workforce are employed in America.”

To add to O’Reilly’s argument, according to The New York Times, GE paid zero federal income tax in 2010. Nevertheless, President Obama continues to praise GE’s CEO Jeffrey Immelt. In a speech, the president championed GE, saying, “I am so proud and pleased that Jeff has agreed to chair this panel — my council on jobs and competitiveness — because we think GE has something to teach businesses all across America.”

More Than 2 Million Jobs Will Be Lost if Automatic Spending Cuts Kick In, Report Says

Automatic cuts in federal spending will cost the economy more than 2 million jobs, from defense contracting to border security to education, if Congress fails to resolve the looming budget crisis, according to an analysis released Tuesday.

The study, obtained by The Associated Press, was conducted for the Aerospace Industries Association, but it examined the shared pain for defense and domestic programs from the across-the-board reductions slated to kick in Jan. 2. The cuts would reduce the nation's gross domestic product by $215 billion next year while consumer confidence would plummet, said the report by Dr. Stephen Fuller of George Mason University and Chmura Economics and Analytics.

After nine years of working in secret, the unit neither published its reviews of specific cases nor informed potentially innocent defendants or their attorneys, according to the Post.

"We're At The Fiscal Endgame"

To those on the hill and elsewhere who suggest this growing 'fiscal cliff' and 'debt ceiling' crisis will all get solved, former Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director David Stockman tells Bloomberg TV that "they will punt, punt, punt and kick the can with partial solutions driven by eleventh hour crisis-based extensions that will go on for the whole of the next term!" When asked whether this economy will be mired in the doldrums, he rather ominously states "it will be worse, because we will be in recession" and notes that when the lame ducks re-look at the budget numbers with a realistic recession (instead of the current assumption of no recession within 12 years) it will be far worse and in a political environment where 'we cannot possibly raise taxes - and we cannot possibly cut spending'. With a 78% disapproval rating for the 'do nothing' Congress, Stockman is surprised that 16% somehow approve - approve of what? His warning is that unlike in past periods, today "we are completely paralyzed, there is an ideological divide on taxes and entitlement like we've never had before" and while he realizes that "the debt problem doesn't become a debt problem until the market suddenly have a wake up call and realize that if the Fed doesn't keep printing, it's game over."

"The fact that rates are so low is not a reflection of the US as a safe-haven but a bet on the Fed not allowing rates to rise."

"The perverse low-rate environment simply tells Congress that they can borrow a trillion dollars for 10 billion a year."

If rates rose then it would break this huge partisan stalemate we have today"

"There is a huge costs to stalemate!"

In a little under six minutes, David factually describes the certainly-not-priced-in dismal reality of the political situation we face in the next few months... must watch...

Jobs Versus Net Jobs

One of the reasons for the popularity of political rhetoric is that everybody can be right, in terms of their own rhetoric, no matter how much the rhetoric of one side contradicts the rhetoric of the other side.

President Obama constantly repeats how many millions of jobs have been created during his administration, while his critics constantly repeat how many millions of jobs have been lost during his administration. How can both of them be right – or, at least, how can they both get away with what they are saying?

There are jobs and there are net jobs. This is true not only today but has been true in years past.

Back during the 1980s, when there were huge losses of jobs in the steel industry, the government restricted the importation of foreign steel. It has been estimated that this saved 5,000 jobs in the American steel industry.

But of course restriction of competition from lower-priced imported steel made steel more expensive to American producers of products containing steel. Therefore the price of these products rose, making them less in demand at these higher prices, causing losses of sales at home and in the world market.

OBAMA, THE BUSINESS MAGNATE

Anybody who has ever started and run a business knows, it is a success IN SPITE of the government, not BECAUSE of the government. Yet, our Dear Socialist Leader Obama doesn’t see things that way. If you have a business, “You didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen”. Yea, I suppose fairies and elves created and built your business, while you were asleep. Businesses somehow survive and profit despite having huge tax deposits, Social Security deposits, unemployment payments, and more taxes, fees, and regulations than you can shake a stick at. Then there’s the costs of compliance, with the IRS, with OSHA, with the EPA. Business owners have to spend a fortune on accountants and lawyers (parasites) to make sure they aren’t breaking the law. The “cost of compliance” runs in the hundreds of billions; money businesses waste and could be investing in production or research.

The truth is, Obama has done everything in his power to make sure businesses don’t succeed, and that they relocate in some other country, countries which don’t have millions of regulations, taxes, and labor unions. The end result, of course, is the loss of jobs, the destruction of the middle class, and the massive rise in the Welfare state. These “successes” are what Obama should be bragging about, as he fills the welfare and poverty roles, and has more people on food stamps than any other president in history. An utter failure as a President, and having never run a business, he simply increases the government power and control. What an idiot.

Mexican Drug Cartels Have Infiltrated All Of These US Cities

Mexican drug cartels have infiltrated most major cities in the U.S.

The National Post used a Justice Department report to track the routes and goods of various cartels.

For instance, cartels can procure meth supplies in Asia, manufacture the drug in Mexico and then ship it up to middle America. The majority of cocaine, stereotypically a Columbian drug, now comes from Mexico.

The Gulf Cartel spreads out east of Texas, making appearances in cities from Columbus, Ohio, to Raleigh, North Carolina. The cartel was responisble for the alleged beheading deaths of rival gang members last month. With more drugs, profit and return comes more danger--deaths have spiked severely since 2007.

The graphic, posted to visual.ly, also breaks down drug deaths by region.

Gold Manipulation Is Going Mainstream

The article below written by Thomas Pascoe in the UK’s Telegraph is to me evidence that the gold manipulation story is about to go mainstream. I spent many years writing all about precious metals (physical metal held outside the banking system) as the most logical wealth protection tool in the current environment, as well as the obvious manipulation of gold and silver by the Washington D.C./Wall Street/Central Bank syndicate. The reason I haven’t written as much about it lately is by no means a reflection of a changed attitude, rather I just think I have said all there is to say on it and I am attempting to wake people up to other crimes and threats.

That said, the LIBOR rigging scandal may be a key inflection point in the public’s awareness and willingness to comprehend the clear gold rigging that has been going on for years and has reached biblical proportions in the last year or so. What we learned from LIBOR-GATE are two key things. First, this seems to be a clear conspiracy with Central Banks and the TBTF banks working together to manipulate the interest rate that is used to price over $350 trillion in fixed income securities, swaps and derivatives (basically every security on the planet when we really get down to it). The Central Banks benefit (and the host governments) since borrowing costs are fraudulently managed lower so as to give the appearance of stability. The TBTF banks benefit by manipulating LIBOR to profit from leveraged trades on trillions of assets that move based on this interest rate. It’s a win-win for the syndicate.

In any event, what becomes clear to anyone paying even the slightest bit of attention is that the gold and silver markets are the exact other side of the LIBOR coin. It doesn’t help to rig interest rates lower if gold and silver are soaring since people will start questioning the purchasing power of the money itself, which if allowed to get out of control will cause interest rates to soar, thus negating the impact of the LIBOR fixing in the first place. This is so easy even a caveman could get it.

So below are some key quotes from this important article and then a link to it. Just back from a six day 2,000 mile road trip so I am bit behind. Hope to have some more posts up later. Mike

Romney Shows His Fighting Side, to GOP Cheers

Dogged by lingering questions about his business record, Mitt Romney shifted from defense to attack mode Monday, accusing President Obama of unfairly rewarding campaign donors. It was a more aggressive posture many Republicans have been wanting to see.

The Republican’s camp unveiled a new ad and line of attack that argue Mr. Obama has practiced a perverted form of crony capitalism during his first 31/2 years in office — to the detriment of the American middle class.

As one example, Romney senior adviser Ed Gillespie pointed to Fisker Automotive, which counts the venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers as one of its major investors. Employees of the firm have contributed millions to mostly Democratic political candidates, including money to Mr. Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The word lamppost is popping up lately with alarming frequency in connection with the word banker in all kinds of respectable places, and I don’t think this refers to, say, men in Armani suits searching for their car keys where the light is shining on the sidewalk after quaffing a few rare cuvee jeroboams of Louis Roederer Cristal. Rather, it seems to suggest a certain unease with the levers of jurisprudence in this republic of grifters, stooges, and bought-off lackeys.

Also of late come rumblings from the most august newspaper in the land that certain questions concerning LIBOR-fixing among American bank officials might soon be entertained in a federal courtroom. But isn’t it a fact that the US Department of Justice has its hands full – not to mention its dockets – with cases of alleged performance-doping by star athletes? Just think: all that effort (and expense!) at repeated prosecutions and Roger Clemens remains at large! His fastball might yet shred the constitution and dishonor all the combined sacrifices of our men in uniform in countless heroic wars.

Meanwhile, has The New York Times sent a reporter to chat up the elusive John Corzine? It must be an easier job than, say, trekking to a cave in Tora Bora to interview the late Mr. Osama bin Laden – which a few plucky reporters actually accomplished back when – yet Mr. Corzine is now better hidden than the Orang-pendek of Sumatra. And higher-functioning, too, considering his current role as Uncle Scrooge McDuck to the Obama reelection campaign. In what 5th sub-basement of a Robert A. M. Stern-designed luxury high-rise does Mr. Corzine sit with his moneybags

How many times have you had to stay in a Hospital?

Willard Mitt Romney

His full Name is: Willard Mitt Romney

He was Born: March 12, 1947 and is 65 years old.

His Father: George W. Romney, former Governor of the State of Michigan

He was raised in Bloomfield Hills , Michigan

He is Married to Ann Romney since 1969; they five children.

Education: B.A. from Brigham Young University ,

J.D. and M.B.A. from Harvard University

Religion: Mormon - The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints

Working Background:

After high school, he spent 30 months in France as a Mormon missionary.

After going to both Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School simultaneously, he passed the Michigan bar exam.

In 1984, he co-founded Bain Capital a private equity investment firm, one of the largest such firms in the United States .

In 1994, he ran for US Senator of Massachusetts and lost to Ted Kennedy.

He was President and CEO of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games.

In 2002, he was elected Governor of the State of Massachusetts where he eliminated a 1.5 billion deficit.

Some Interesting Facts about Romney:

Bain Capital, starting with one small office supply store in Massachusetts , turned it into the big box store Staples; there are now over 2,000 stores employing 90,000 people.

Bain Capital also worked to perform the same kinds of business miracles again and again, with companies like Domino's, Sealy, Brookstone, Weather Channel, Burger King, Warner Music Group, Dollarama, Home Depot Supply, and many others.

He was an unpaid volunteer campaign worker for his dad's gubernatorial campaign 1 year.

He was an unpaid intern in his dad's governor's office for eight years.

He was an unpaid bishop and stake president of his church for ten years.

He was an unpaid President of the Salt Lake Olympic Committee for three years.

He took no salary and was the unpaid Governor of Massachusetts for four years.

He gave his entire inheritance from his father to charity.

Mitt Romney is one of the wealthiest self-made men in our country but has given more back to its citizens in terms of money, service and time than most men.

And in 2011 Mitt Romney gave over $4 million to charity, almost 19% of his income.... Just for comparison purposes, President Obama gave 1% and Joe Biden gave $300 or .0013%.

Mitt Romney is Trustworthy:

He will show us his birth certificate

He will show us his high school and college transcripts.

He will show us his social security card.

He will show us his law degree.

He will show us his draft notice.

He will show us his medical records.

He will show us his income tax records.

He will show us he has nothing to hide.

Mitt Romney's background, experience and trustworthiness show him to be a great leader and an excellent citizen for President of the United States .

You may think that Romney may not be the best representative the Republicans could have selected. At least I know what religion he is, and that he won't desecrate the flag, won’t bow down to foreign powers, or practice fiscal irresponsibility. I feel he has the ability to turn around this financial debacle that the current regime has gotten us into. We probably won't like all the decisions necessary to recover from the national debt, but someone with Romney's background can do it.

On the minus side, Romney worked incredibly hard to turn Staples, Domino's, Sealy, Brookstone, etc. into very successful companies. He was paid well for producing good results. Unfortunately, his wealth is being portrayed as a bad thing. He shouldn’t make so much money. He should be less successful? What kind of a message is that for America ?

Romney never was a "Community Organizer", never smoked pot, did not associate with communists or terrorists like Bill Ayers and Bernadine Zorn, nor did he attend a church whose pastor called for God to damn the United States.

Johns Hopkins Drops To Number 2 In Ranking

Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and Massachusetts General of Boston have swapped places.

Mass General was number two last year according to the annual survey by U.S. News and World Report, which is considered one of the best and most thorough study on the subject.

The difference really boiled down to one point in specialty areas. Massachusetts General had 16 number one specialties to Hopkins' 15.

The airline said that what appear to be sewing needles were found in five sandwiches on Sunday. One passenger on a flight to Minneapolis was injured, but the passenger declined to get medical attention, according to Delta spokeswoman Kristin Baur. The other needles were on two flights to Atlanta and one to Seattle.

The FBI's Atlanta office has opened a criminal investigation into the matter, the agency said in a written statement. An FBI spokesman in Atlanta did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment.

STATE POLICE HELICOPTER RESCUES TWO STRANDED VICTIMS FROM SKIPTON CREEK

(Talbot County, MD) Maryland State Police helicopter, Trooper 6, executed an aerial hoist rescue on Skipton Creek and transported two stranded victims to safety.

Last night at approximately 10:34 p.m. SYSCOM, the statewide helicopter dispatch center, received a request from the Talbot County Emergency Operations Center. Talbot County had requested the helicopter to assist in locating and rescuing two stranded jet ski operators on Skipton Creek in the area of U.S. Route 50 between Wye Mills and Easton.

MSP Trooper 6, based at the Easton Airport, Talbot County, MD was dispatched to complete a hoist rescue mission for two victims who grounded their personal water crafts in the mud in the middle of the creek. The victims were stranded at night and exposed to the elements for 3 hours with no ability to return to shore.

The flight crew onboard Trooper 6 arrived at Skipton Creek, evaluated the scene, and quickly located an 18 year old female and a 22 year old male victim stranded in the middle of the creek with their water crafts. The victims were not visible and unable to be located by fire/rescue personnel from the Cordova Fire Company who were nearby at the Skipton Landing.

Trooper 6 lowered a rescue basket to the victims, hoisted and transported both victims to shore where Talbot County paramedics and emergency service providers from the Cordova Fire Company assessed both victims for injuries. Maryland Natural Resource Police are investigating.

The Maryland State Police Aviation Command has served Maryland citizens since 1970, and operates a fleet of eleven (11) helicopters from seven (7) bases throughout the State on a 24/7/365 basis. Missions include medevac, law enforcement, search & rescue, homeland security, and disaster assessment. The success of rescues performed by the Aviation Command depends a great deal on the cooperative effort of local fire, rescue, EMS, and law enforcement agencies.

Health Officials Warn Of Extreme Heat

“Top 10 Keep Cool and Healthy Tips”

(Salisbury, MD) During these extreme heat conditions, the Wicomico County Health Department is encouraging residents to check on each other, find ways to cool, and keep hydrated. As the extreme heat continues, it is very important to follow basic heat safety tips to keep you and your loved ones healthy and safe.

“Infants, young children, young athletes, obese persons, those older than 65 years of age, and those persons with diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease or a mental illness are at highest risk for heat related illness”, says Lori Brewster, Wicomico County Health Officer. “It’s important to look out for each other and follow these tips to stay cool and safe.”

Health officials suggest these top ten tips to stay cool and safe during the heat:
· Check on neighbors, family and friends frequently, several times a day. If you live alone, check in with your family and friends everyday to let them know you are okay.
· Stay in a cool place preferably with air-conditioning. If you must be outside, seek shade.
· If you do not have air conditioning:
· Visit cooling centers in your area.
· Go to the mall, a movie theater, or the home of friend or relative with air conditioning.
· Temperatures inside the home should not exceed 85 degrees Fahrenheit for prolonged periods of time.
· Drink plenty of fluids like water or fruit juices, avoiding alcohol and caffeinated beverages.
Eat a variety of fruits with high water content such as watermelon, pineapple, grapes, strawberries, peaches, apples and pears to help supply needed body fluids and prevent dehydration.
· Limit using the stove or oven to keep the house cooler; avoid hot, spicy or heavy foods.
· Wear loose-fitting clothes in natural fabrics like cotton and dress in light colors that will reflect the sun and heat instead of darker colors that will attract them.
· Take a cool bath or shower to lower your body temperature on extremely hot days.
· If you, or someone you know, is experiencing headaches, confusion, dizziness, nausea or a rapid heartbeat, get immediate medical attention.

For facts on heat related illness or additional tips on how to stay cool, visit the Wicomico County Health Department's website at www.wicomicohealth.org. or www.dhmh.maryland.gov and click on “Extreme Heat”.

QUOTES OF THE DAY - THE ROGER WATERS EDITION

“All alone, or in two’s,
The ones who really love you
Walk up and down outside the wall.
Some hand in hand
And some gathered together in bands.
The bleeding hearts and artists
Make their stand.

And when they’ve given you their all
Some stagger and fall, after all it’s not easy
Banging your heart against some mad bugger’s wall.”
― Roger Waters

“All that you touch
All that you see
All that you taste
All you feel.
All that you love
All that you hate
All you distrust
All you save.
All that you give
All that you deal
All that you buy,
beg, borrow or steal.
All you create
All you destroy
All that you do
All that you say.
All that you eat
And everyone you meet
All that you slight
And everyone you fight.
All that is now
All that is gone
All that’s to come
and everything under the sun is in tune
but the sun is eclipsed by the moon.”There is no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact it’s all dark.”
― Roger Waters

“Not the torturer will scare me, nor the body’s final fall, nor the barrels of death’s rifles, nor the shadows on the wall, nor the night when to the ground the last dim star of pain, is hurled but the blind indifference of a merciless, unfeeling world.”
― Roger Waters

“Did you see the frightened ones,
Did you hear the falling bombs,
Did you ever wonder why we had to run for shelter in the promise of a brave new world unfurlled beaneath the clear blue skies.Good bye blue skies.”
― Roger Waters

“ashes or diamonds
foe or friend
we’re all equal in the end”
― Roger Waters

“money so they say is the root of all evil today ”
― Roger Waters

“And when they found our shadows
Grouped around the TV sets
They ran down every lead
They repeated every test
They checked out all the data on their lists
And then the alien anthropologists
Admitted they were still perplexed
But on eliminating every other reason
For our sad demise
They logged the only explanation left
This species has amused itself to death”
― Roger Waters

How Old Is Grandma

Stay with this -- the answer is at the end. It will blow you away.

One evening a grandson was talking to his grandmother about current events.

The grandson asked his grandmother what she thought about the shootings at schools, the computer age, and just things in general.

The Grandmother replied, "Well, let me think a minute, I was born before:

television
penicillin
polio shots
frozen foods
Xerox
contact lenses
Frisbees and
the pill

There were no:
credit cards
laser beams or
ball-point pens

Man had not yet invented:

pantyhose
air conditioners
dishwashers
clothes dryers
and the clothes were hung out to dry in the fresh air and
man hadn't yet walked on the moon

Your Grandfather and I got married first, and then lived together.

Every family had a father and a mother.

Until I was 25, I called every man older than me, "Sir."

And after I turned 25, I still called policemen and every man with a title, "Sir."

We were before gay-rights, computer-dating, dual careers, daycare centers, and group therapy.

Our lives were governed by the Ten Commandments, good judgment, and common sense.

We were taught to know the difference between right and wrong and to stand up and take responsibility for our actions.

Serving your country was a privilege; living in this country was a bigger privilege.
We thought fast food was what people ate during Lent.

Having a meaningful relationship meant getting along with your cousins.

Draft dodgers were those who closed front doors as the evening breeze started.

Time-sharing meant time the family spent together in the evenings and weekends -not purchasing condominiums.

We never heard of FM radios, tape decks, CD's, electric typewriters, yogurt, or guys wearing earrings.

We listened to Big Bands, Jack Benny, and the President's speeches on our radios.

And I don't ever remember any kid blowing his brains out listening to Tommy Dorsey.

If you saw anything with 'Made in Japan ' on it, it was junk.

The term 'making out' referred to how you did on your school exam.

Pizza Hut, McDonald's, and instant coffee were unheard of.

We had 5 &10-cent stores where you could actually buy things for 5 and 10 cents.

Ice-cream cones, phone calls, rides on a streetcar, and a Pepsi were all a nickel.

And if you didn't want to splurge, you could spend your nickel on enough stamps to mail 1 letter and 2 postcards.

You could buy a new Ford Coupe for $600, but who could afford one?

Too bad, because gas was 11 cents a gallon.

In my day:
' "grass" was mowed,
' "coke" was a cold drink,
' "pot" was something your mother cooked in and
' "rock music" was your grandmother's lullaby.
' "Aids" were helpers in the Principal's office,
' "chip" meant a piece of wood,
' "hardware" was found in a hardware store and.
' "software" wasn't even a word.

And we were the last generation to actually believe that a lady needed a husband to have a baby.

No wonder people call us "old and confused" and say there is a generation gap.
How old do you think I am?

I bet you have this old lady in mind. You are in for a shock!

Read on to see -- pretty scary if you think about it and pretty sad at the same time.

Nope, not telling you. Put your comment up and I'll let every one know the answer later today.

The 'Heroic' Louis Freeh And His Legacies

Standing before the podium with his reading glasses perched on his nose in a Really Serious Position, former FBI Director Louis Freeh read the summary of his damning report on what happened at Penn State University. The university, he intoned, was directly responsible for permitting Jerry Sandusky, the former football team defensive coordinator and now a convicted child molester, for preying on young "troubled" boys.

So far, the media response has been lockstep not only in its condemnation for Penn State and the late Joe Paterno, the legendary coach who won more games than any other NCAA Division I football coach in history, but also in its praise for Freeh. (I include links from the New York Times, ESPN, and CBS Sports.)

Not being familiar with the details of the report or the Sandusky case and the role of Penn State officials in trying to hide what they feared was happening, I will ask readers to judge the accuracy and tone of Freeh’s report and make their own assessments. However, before the media and legal world goes on to paint Louis Freeh in the most heroic terms, I would remind readers that probably any one of us could have written that report and made the same damning comments made by Freeh and his underlings. It hardly is heroic to come upon a situation after the fact and to write those things which apparently were obvious in hindsight.

IQ Testing Shows Women Smarter Than Men

There's been an interesting turn in the ongoing Battle of the Sexes.
Women might just be smarter than men.

For the first time since IQ testing began, women's scores have surpassed those of men.

The Daily Mail reports that renowned IQ testing expert James Flynn plans to publish the results in an upcoming book.

"In the last 100 years the IQ scores of both men and women have risen but women's have risen faster," Flynn tells The Daily Mail. "This is a consequence of modernity. The complexity of the modern world is making our brains adapt and raising our IQ."

WELCOME TO DOWNTOWN SALISBURY

If Mayor Ireton had his way about revitalizing Downtown Salisbury, the image above is just a perfect example of how things would look in about 5 more years.

Oh, it might look pretty going up but it will take no time at all before Code & Compliance would be dealing with the same junk.

The Mayor can't even keep the current housekeeping going. Its easy to SAY you have a vision but as this image proves, this Mayor couldn't care less about Downtown Salisbury.

Then again, maybe he's a lot like Fredericksen telling employees to continue to let things fall apart without repair so they can get MILLIONS of dollars to build new. The apple doesn't fall far from the Boss' tree.

Incomplete SSA Records Lead to Payments to Dead People

Dead people cannot work, earn wages or get benefits. But, due in part to faulty recording processes by the Social Security Administration, that is exactly what's happening according to a recent SSA Inspector General report.

The IG found SSA did not transfer death information for approximately 1.2 million people from an internal records system to its Numident database, a master file of information on each individual issued a social security number. SSA uses the Numident database to generate the Death Master File and help with the E-Verify process. A variety of agencies and private sector companies use both to ensure they have correct information when confirming people's identities.

Of the 50 cases randomly selected for review by the IG, SSA failed to transfer the death information for all 50 to the Numident.

Could Not Believe My Eyes

Every day I do my little Freekibble trivia thing, and today the part on cats had a little story about a rescue transport program similar to Pilots N Paws called "On Wings of Care" -- www.onwingsofcare.org which is primarily out of northern CA (the founder, a woman pilot, has homes there and in New Orleans). I enjoy reading about that sort of thing and so I was on their site poking around and I clicked on one of the tabs -- can't remember the name but it was obvious it was about how you could look into flying with them -- and I clicked on that. As I was reading along and it was giving the stats on the animals they had flown in the past year (this was for 2011), you could have knocked me over with a feather when I read they had flown 17 dogs INTO WICOMICO COUNTY for adoption!!! What on earth is the deal there when they're killing animals by the dozens every week but they're flying them in from other states for adoptions?

You know I'm always glad when an animal finds a forever home, but I had to pick my chin up off the floor after reading that.

Check it out for yourself.

Kitty Wells Dies at 92; Country Music Trailblazer

Wells was one of the first women to have a significant effect on country music. She had a No. 1 hit with 'It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels' in 1952.

Country singer Kitty Wells had been recording, touring and broadcasting without major success for more than a decade when she accepted an offer in 1952 to record one more song before she planned to turn her attention to staying at home and raising a family.

Mostly she was interested in the $125 union scale pay she'd get for the session, at which she recorded "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels," a song that not only turned her career around but also helped upend stereotypical thinking about men who strayed and the women they strayed with.
