The Political Revolution Will Not Be Televised

[The Occupy Wall Street movement may not know it yet, but Ron Paul is their candidate. You would never guess this is so from the mainstream media's aloof, retrograde reportage of the campaign season. In the essay below, my wife, Marilyn, explains why the TV networks and the New York Times are missing a grassroots groundswell that will be seen as a Political Revolution by the time the 2012 rolls around. If this proves to be so, look for a shot across the bow when disaffected young people switch their affiliation to Republican so that they can get Rep. Paul nominated. RA]

No one questions that “something” is brewing, or rather simmering beneath the surface in America. The discontent, having finally reached the heretofore silently and sublimely disaffected youth who are occupying Wall Street and any other street in any other town you might mention, is a phenomenon that has every journalist and blogger on the planet analyzing their heads off. Is the OWS movement the left’s Tea Party? Will progressive politicians regret throwing in with the legions of urban campers? Do these people have a platform? Who is supporting them? (Well, we actually know that Soros and the unions are doing that, because they’ve pretty much told us)

A Letter To The Editor 10-28-11

I went to Walmart in Salisbury today and found a special on HP printer for $29. It contains two printing cartridges, B&W and color.
I look up the replacement cost for ink at printcountry.com and the replacement cost for my present printer was $29.40.
The lesson here: don’t replace the cartridges – buy a new printer!

The Trouble With the Fed Is That Too Many Bankers Run It ... Not!

Bernie Sanders: The big banks rule the Fed, here's how to fix it ... The independent senator from Vermont is taking aim at the make-up of the Federal Reserve's board of directors, arguing it has too many bankers. At a time when the rally against Wall Street and corporate greed gains momentum, a U.S. government report released last week raises a question few protesters probably think about: Are too many members of the U.S. Federal Reserve board of directors from the banking sector? After all, the Fed regulates many of the very same companies that its members run, and so this potentially poses a conflict of interest, according to the Government Accountability Office. While the report didn't find that these firms directly benefited from the Fed, it confirmed worries that several financial firms and corporations could have gained from their executives' close ties to the Fed. – Fortune

Keep Safety A Priority This Halloween

Friday, October 28, 2011

Resume:
The Delaware State Police would like to remind parents, children, and motorists to remain vigilant and keep safety a top priority during this Halloween weekend.

Motorist Safety
Motorists are being asked to not only drive with extreme caution, but also to drive extra slow in neighborhoods and residential areas.

Children will be walking house to house and depending on the availability of sidewalks, may be near or actually on the roadway.

With all the trick or treating excitement, children may inadvertently dart across the street into the path of moving vehicles.

Trick or Treating Safety

Children should never go trick or treating alone, they should always have a parent or a group of friends with them at all times.

Stay off the main roadways.

Costumes should always fit properly.

Consider face paint instead of masks as they can obstruct a child’s vision.

Trick or Treaters should always carry a flashlight.

For added visibility consider using “glow sticks” and/or reflective tape attached to the costumes or bags.

Before crossing the street, always look in both directions twice to make sure there is no vehicular traffic.

Parents encouraged to review the Delaware Sex Offender Registry

Parents can find accurate information regarding the presence of sex offenders in their neighborhoods by visiting the Delaware Sex Offender Registry online at:

http://desexoffender.dsp.delaware.gov/SexOffenderPublic/#

Parents are encouraged to review the list of registered sex offenders living near their neighborhood. The Neighborhood Search and Mapping feature found on the website pinpoints exactly where an offender lives, therefore, educating the public on which house to avoid while trick-or-treating.

The Delaware State Police Sex Offender Apprehension and Registration (SOAR) Unit will be working in conjunction with Probation and Parole ensuring that registered sex offenders are not participating in the Halloween activities and are in compliance with requirements.

London Protestors 1 God 0: Anti-Capitalism Camp Scores PR Victory Against St Paul's

The Church of England has had 468 years to work on its public relations strategy. The Occupy London protestors camped around St Paul's Cathedral have had rather less time to perfect theirs. And when the two movements first collided on Oct. 15, it looked like experience would triumph over greenhorn enthusiasm. After the protestors' befuddlingly odd attempt to emulate Occupy Wall Street by occupying the London Stock Exchange on a Saturday (the stock exchange operates 8am-4. 35pm Monday-Friday), the cathedral authorities permitted the protestors to pitch tents on their nearby doorstep instead. St Paul's Canon Chancellor, the Reverend Dr Giles Fraser even asked police to move from their position outside St Paul's. "I didn't feel that [the building] needed that sort of protection," he said.

Surrogate Mom Stuck With A $200,000+ Medical Bill

Carrie Mathews of Windsor, Colo., said she became a surrogate because she just wanted to provide a couple with children.
Despite that simple desire, Mathews said she nearly died after giving birth to the twins she carried for Theresa and Rudolf Bakos of Austria, and her family now finds itself entangled in a legal and financial imbroglio.
According to NBC Colorado’s 9News, which originally reported the story, Mathews contacted the National Adoption and Surrogacy Center, which introduced her to several families looking for a surrogate.

Occupying The Jewish Question

The effort to smear Occupy Wall Street as an anti-Semitic movement came to a head last week, when The Emergency Committee for Israel (ECI) released an ad, following, as they do, the Anti-Defamation League's demand for an apology and condemning the month-old movement as a proponent of hate speech. (The next day, it is worth knowing, Rachel Abrams, who sits on the ECI's board, called for genocide to include Palestinian children, and the Anti-Defamation League didn't bat an eyelash.) It would seem there have been some anti-Semites, spouting the same Jewish banker insinuations that have plagued the last few centuries of Western life, down at Liberty Plaza Park.

That may be, and on at least one occasion, the population of the park at large decided to shout down an anti-Semite, impressing upon him in satisfyingly hostile ways the importance of inclusion. This "anti-Semite" brouhaha has arisen largely on disingenuous grounds. The corporatist right wing, unable to counter Occupy Wall Street's charges of corruption and depravity, has decided to change the subject and attack Occupy Wall Street's character instead, resorting to that old favorite, charges of anti-Semitism.

For the right wing, determined to be offended notwithstanding the absence of offense, the vigorous participation and endorsement of prominent Jews is inadmissible evidence on Occupy Wall Street's behalf. As Jeff Sharlet, himself Jewish, points out, Jewish signatories to the Occupy Writers list include Elisa Albert, Steve Almond, Eric Alterman, James Atlas, David Bezmogis, Max Blumenthal, Randy Cohen, Morris Dickstein, Kira Brunner, Janice Eidus, Eve Ensler, Kiera Feldman, Nell Freudenberger, Mila Goldberg, Myra Goldberg, Arthur Goldwag, Matthew Goodman, and just a few others. According to the good folks at Commentary and its comrade publications, appearances and speeches at the park by everyone from Joseph Stiglitz to Naomi Klein are irrelevant.

But that's just the point: to them, even anti-Semitism is irrelevant. Does anyone think that Bill Kristol and D.G. Myers and the rest of the Wall Street-financed bloc would be supporters even if Occupy Wall Street were a specifically Jewish organization? Of course not. The deranged conspiracy theorist with his sign is merely the latest trial balloon the right wing has floated in its mission to deflect attention from substantive critiques of our economy's overfinancialization, the extremely active revolving door, drastic recent increases in wealth inequality, callous budget cuts targeting programs of critical value to the most vulnerable Americans etc. When they stop arguing the points and start attacking you personally, you know you've hit a nerve.

No Surprise Here: A New Scandal at News Corporation

I see that the Murdoch empire is facing another scandal — this time involving misleading advertisers rather than readers, by inflating circulation numbers.

Nick Davies reported in an article for The Guardian published on Oct. 12: “One of Rupert Murdoch’s most senior European executives has resigned following Guardian inquiries about a circulation scam at News Corporation’s flagship newspaper, The Wall Street Journal. The Guardian found evidence that The Journal had been channeling money through European companies in order to secretly buy thousands of copies of its own paper at a knock-down rate, misleading readers and advertisers about The Journal’s true circulation.”

Wow. And yet we should have expected something like this to come to light.

Foreigners Sell Second Largest Amount Of US Bonds Ever In Past Week, Record $93 Billion In US Paper Sold In Past 2 Months

Two weeks ago when we reported [7]that there had been a record consecutive week dump of US Treasury paper in the Fed's custodial account, as reported by the weekly H.4.1, [8]we made the assumption that this was China preemptively selling US paper. Well, that may or may not have been the case, but it was only part of the full story. We have now learned that Europe, and especially Germany has been just an active seller of sovereign bonds, most certainly including US paper, in recent weeks. As FAZ reports [9], the head of Commerzbank Martin Blessing has been dumping all bonds in his possession, primarily PIIGS paper, but also US and German ones. He does add the clarification that this has been a complicated project as there has been a buyer's strike (and with the CDS extinction it will only get more difficult as there is no natural hedge remaining), and his dumping has certainly not made things easier. Now as we all know by now, when starting a panic exodus, one has to be first, be smarter, or cheat. Here we will add a fourth one: or sell US paper. After all the demand for this is nearly insatiable, or so the neo-Keynesians out there will have us believe. Well, in the last week, someone used our definition. According to today's update [8]in the H.4.1, the total amount of securities held in the custodial account for foreign official and international accounts just plunged by $20 billion, of which $19 billion was attributable solely to Treasurys: the second largest weekly dumb ever. And since this total number includes both Treasurys, which are used for political purposes, as well as Agency securities, which don't really serve much in terms of a diplomatic statement but are great at shoring up liquidity, one can assume that the relentless selling in all types of US paper has had one purpose only: to generate capital. As the third chart shows, that amount is substantial: in the last 8 weeks foreigners have sold a unprecedented $93 billion across the custodial account bringing it to $3.392 trillion, the lowest since March 2011! So the next time someone asks where European banks are finding emergency liquidity now that commercial paper, money market and Libor Markets are all dead, you will have the answer.

Panel Points To China As Suspect In U.S. Satellite Hacks

Though not traced to China, actions said to follow patterns of Chinese military

At least two U.S. environment-monitoring satellites were interfered with four or more times in 2007 and 2008 via a ground station in Norway, and China's military is a prime suspect, a draft report to Congress said.

The U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, which reported the interference, said the events had not actually been traced to China. It said it was citing them "because the techniques appear consistent with authoritative Chinese military writings" that have advocated disabling satellite control facilities in any conflict.

Some Big Banks Back Down From Debit-Card Fee

Bank of America triggered outrage among customers last month when it announced plans to impose a $5 monthly fee next year for using a debit card. Even President Barack Obama weighed in, saying banks shouldn't take advantage of their customers.

But other big banks are not following in the steps of the nation's No. 2 bank. And now Bank of America itself seems to be wavering in its resolve.

'This Is Just Wrong': Up To Foot Of Snow Forecast In Northeast

October snowfall records could be broken in parts of southern New England, especially at higher elevations. The October record for southern New England is 7.5 inches in Worcester, Conn., in 1979.

Gay Troops Sue Over Defense Of Marriage Act

The Service Members Legal Defense Network, a group that represents gay and lesbian members of the military, has filed a suit on behalf of several legally married service members and veterans who have been denied full federal benefits because of the Defense of Marriage Act.
Together, the plaintiffs represent 159 years of military service; serve in the Army, Air Force, Navy and National Guard; and as couples, have been together for a total of 79 years.
“We’ve been serving our country too long, working too hard, and sacrificing too much to see our families denied the same recognition, support and benefits as our straight, married counterparts,” said lead plaintiff, Major Shannon McLaughlin of the Massachusetts National Guard. McLaughlin and her spouse, Casey, are the parents of ten month old twins, Grace and Grant.
Currently, federal law requires the military to ignore these marriages and, therefore, prevents it from providing vitally needed benefits to these legally married spouses, including housing; health care; surviving spouse benefits; the issuance of military identification cards; and morale, welfare, and recreational programs. These inequities were recently spotlighted when Chief Warrant Officer 2 Charlie Morgan of the New Hampshire National Guard, announced today as a plaintiff in this case, was forced to seek intervention from elected officials and the Pentagon in order for her spouse, a part-time special education teacher, to be permitted to attend a yellow-ribbon reintegration ceremony following CW2 Morgan’s return from a deployment to Kuwait.
“As plaintiffs, we are fighting to receive the same benefits and opportunities as our married heterosexual counterparts. This discrimination causes undue financial and emotional hardship for our families. As a cancer survivor, who has been recently diagnosed with a recurrence, I worry every day that my health may take a turn for the worse, and Karen would be unable to receive the survivor’s benefits to help take care of our daughter. We are only asking for fair and equitable treatment as a recognized family,” Morgan said today.

Retailers Adding Food, Otherwise Going On A Diet

U.S. stores have an identity crisis. The big ones want to be smaller, the small ones are getting bigger and all of them want to sell more food.

For years, U.S. retailers could simply build more stores, the larger the better, near new developments to spur sales growth. These days, as suburban communities have lost their luster and more people stay in or near cities, that formula needs a make-over.

"It was just all about new store expansion and I think we've come to a tipping point," said Steve Caine, a partner in Bain & Company's global retail practice.

Salisbury Police Department Sexual Assault Press Release

On October 27, at approximately 1:30 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to a local nursing facility to meet with the victim of a sexual assault. Upon arrival the officers met with an adult female who stated to the officers that she had been sexually assaulted. The victim advised that during the previous night she had been asleep in her bedroom when she was awakened by two (2) subjects that had made entry into her residence in the Moss Hill Area of Salisbury. While one of the suspects searched the residence, the second suspect sexually assaulted the victim. The victim was not injured. Detectives responded to the residence and recovered forensic evidence of the assault. Officers and detectives from the Salisbury Police, the Maryland State Police and the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Department are working collaboratively on this investigation. Additional personnel from all three agencies have been deployed in this area as a supplement to the normal patrol.

Evidence to suggest that this assault is related to the home invasion that occurred on Onley Road is inconclusive at this point.

If anyone has any information regarding this assault they are asked to contact the Salisbury Police Department at 410-548-3165 or to contact Crime Solvers of Delmarva at 410-548-1776. Anonymous information will be accepted at both locations.

GOP casts Elizabeth Warren As 'Radical' Mother Of Occupy Wall Street

Even as she has drawn closer to securing the Democratic nomination in the U.S. Senate race in Massachusetts,Elizabeth Warren is under fire for comments that were viewed by some as taking credit for the Occupy Wall Streetmovement.

Warren’s candidacy got a boost this week when rival Alan Khazei dropped out of the race, joining Setti Warren, another former Senate candidate, on the sidelines and seemingly giving a clear shot for the Harvard University law professor to take on incumbent Republican Sen. Scott Brown next fall.

The Americans With No Abilities Act (AWNAA)

Washington, DC - October 23, 2011 - The Obama Administration is urging Congress and the Senate to pass sweeping legislation that will provide new benefits for many Americans: The Americans With No Abilities Act (AWNAA) . President Obama said he will sign it as soon as it hits his desk.  The AWNAA
is being hailed as a major legislative goal by advocates of the millions of Americans who lack any real skills or ambition.

"Roughly 50 percent of Americans do not possess the competence and drive necessary to carve out a meaningful role for themselves in society," said California Senator Barbara Boxer.  "We can no longer stand by and allow People of Inability to be ridiculed and passed over.  With this legislation, employers will no longer be able to grant special favors to a small group of workers, simply because they have some idea of what they are doing.  We are legalizing another protected class of Americans."

In a Capitol Hill press conference, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D) pointed to the success of the U.S. Postal Service, which has a long-standing policy of providing opportunity without regard to performance.  Approximately 74 percent of postal employees
lack any job skills, making this agency the single largest U.S. Employer of Persons of Inability.

Private-sector industries with good records of non-discrimination against the Inept include retail sales (72%), the airline industry (68%), and home improvement 'warehouse' stores (65%).  At the state government level, the Department of Motor Vehicles also has an excellent record of hiring Persons of Inability (a whopping 83%).

Under The Americans With No Abilities Act, more than 25 million 'middle man' positions will be created, with important-sounding titles but little real responsibility, thus providing an illusory sense of purpose and performance.

Mandatory non-performance-based raises and promotions will be given so as to guarantee upward mobility for even the most inept employees. The legislation provides substantial tax breaks to corporations that promote a significant number of Persons of Inability into middle-management positions, and gives a tax credit to small and medium-sized businesses that agree to hire one clueless worker for every two talented hires.

Finally, the AWNAA contains tough new measures to make it more difficult to discriminate against the Non-abled, banning, for example, discriminatory interview questions such as, 'Do you have any skills or experience that relate to this job?'

'As a Non-abled person, I can't be expected to keep up with people who have something going for them,' said Ken Cox, who lost his position as a lug-nut twister at the GM plant in Flint , Michigan , due to his inability to remember 'righty tightey, lefty loosey.'  'This new law should be real good for people like me,' Cox added. With the passage of this bill, Cox and millions of other untalented citizens will finally see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Said Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL): "As a Senator with no abilities, I believe the same privileges that elected officials enjoy ought to be extended to every American with no abilities.  It is our duty as lawmakers to provide each and every American citizen, regardless of his or her inadequacy, with some sort of space to take up in this great nation and a good salary for doing so."

Medical Marijuana Advocates Sue Federal Prosecutors Over Crackdown

Medical marijuana advocates on Thursday sued U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Northern California's top federal prosecutor, asking a federal court to halt the recent crackdown on dispensaries.

Oakland-based Americans for Safe Access argued that the Justice Department has "instituted a policy to dismantle the medical marijuana laws of the state of California and to coerce its municipalities to pass bans on medical marijuana dispensaries" by means of aggressive raids, criminal prosecutions of medical marijuana patients and providers, and threats to local officials who implement the state's law.

MUST-SEE VIDEO DHS HEARINGS: BIG SIS GIVES SECRET CLEARANCE TO MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD

Homeland Insecurity in the hot seat: Big Sis, Janet Napolitano, with the most most disturbing hairdo/color I have ever seen, admits that she has been given secret clearance to Muslim Brotherhood-tied operatives here in the US at the US Immigration and Enforcement hearings. This is jawdropping testimony. Looking like a character in a John Waters film, Janet Napolitano is either clueless, complicit or downright lying to cover for her Muslim Brotherhood appointments. Napolitano denies being aware of a Muslim Brotherhood-tied operative whom she swore in.

Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas does a spectacular job on pressing Napolitano's knowledge of the story that I posted yesterday concerning Mohamed Elibiary, the Homeland Security Adviser who allegedly leaked intel and shopped classified Info to media. I warned of Elibiary's appointment back in 2010. He asked if she was aware and she said she was not aware. Gohmert further pressed Napolitano of her knowledge of Elibiary's support of the Ayatollah Khomeini. Again she feigned concern and professed ignorance. This is the head of Homeland Security claiming ignorance of the most dangerous threat to the homeland, the global jihad and Islamic imperialism and expansion. All of her answers indicate that she is being led by her not inconsequential nose by those who seek "to eliminate and destroy Western civilization from within."

Gohmert asked her if it concerned her at all and ...... she didn't answer.

Ten Reasons Not To Bank On (Or With) Bank Of America

Charging customers for a debit card is just one reason not to bank at BoA. Recent Occupy Santa Cruz Bank of America incident illustrates how sensitive B of A is to protest.  This "too big to fail" bank may collapse like a house made of junk bonds and become a taxpayer burden. Here are a few other reasons why you shouldn't bank with them.

There is no shortage of hatred for the biggest banks. Indeed, the Occupy Wall Street movement is leading a national revolution against these byzantine, powerful Goliaths for the economic devastation they have caused. This makes it difficult to choose the worst of the bunch. That said, a strong case can be made that Bank of America deserves the title of the nation's most despised bank.

Here are ten reasons to take your money out of Bank of America - and park it at a credit union or community bank near you. (And yes, that may be near impossible if you have a mortgage with them, as refinancing away from any big bank nowadays is a nightmare.)

1. B of A rejects the right of customers to protest. When two Occupy Santa Cruz protesters [36]in California marched into a local Bank of America to close their accounts, the response was, "You cannot be a protester and a customer at the same time," followed by a threat to call the police if the women didn't leave. (The attending officer  later reiterated the bank manager's message.) Meanwhile, the fact that Bank of America charges a fee for closing an account prompted Rep. Brad Miller (D-North Carolina), who resides in Bank of America's headquarters state, to introduce a bill to protect customers from such fees.

2. To recoup ongoing losses from its stupendously dumb acquisitions of Countrywide Financial and Merrill Lynch, B of A pillages its customers. Thus, despite massive public outrage, the $5 debit usage fee for customers with less than a $5,000 balance and no mortgage with the bank will begin in 2012. B of A was the first large bank to confirm it would charge this fee, which is the highest in current discourse among the banks.

Worcester County Question

Mr Albero

I am getting "plugged in" to the county government here in Worcester. I am a parent of a Snow High School child and have been following the commsioners in their decsion making process.

Regardless of the side of the issue, my biggest concern is with the lack of accountability to the public they have. With a little bit of google searching it is apparent that wanting to silence public complaints is a common theme.

My question to you is, do you know of or have a point of contact for a citizens group in Worcester that shares my concern?

The victim is identified as Rogelio Mondragon, 40, who was a patient at the Clifton T. Perkins Hospital, in Jessup, Md.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  His body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

The accused is identified as Andre Mayo, 46, who is also a patient at the hospital.  After consultation with the Howard County State’s Attorney’s Office, Maryland State Police homicide investigators have charged Mayo with first and second degree murder.  He was taken to the Howard County Detention Center for his initial appearance before a court commissioner.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m. yesterday, Maryland State Police at the Waterloo Barrack were requested to respond to the Clifton T. Perkins Hospital by staff.  Responding troopers secured the area where the victim was found.  Troopers noted there was evidence on the victim’s hands and face that indicated he may have been in a fight. They requested that investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit respond to investigate further.

The preliminary investigation by the State Police Homicide Unit indicates that shortly after 6:30 p.m. yesterday, hospital staff were conducting their regular rounds to check on patients.  They found the victim lying unresponsive on the floor of his room.  Immediate emergency care was provided by hospital staff and Howard County emergency medical services were requested through 911.  Paramedics responded to the scene, but the victim was unable to be resuscitated and was pronounced dead.

While hospital staff were subsequently moving patients off the floor for the investigation, the accused approached a security staff member and provided information to the staff member about the assault on the victim.  During a review of video surveillance from the floor where the incident occurred, investigators saw the accused enter the victim’s room on two occasions within a half hour.  The victim was alone in the room both times Mayo is observed entering.

State Police investigators from the Homicide Unit and the Waterloo Barrack were at the hospital throughout the night conducting interviews and reviewing evidence.  Maryland State Police crime scene technicians responded and processed the scene and collected evidence.

A motive for the homicide has not been clearly established at this time.  Investigators hope to learn more about the victim’s cause and manner of death following the autopsy.  The investigation is continuing.

LEBANON, Ohio - A former Ohio high school teacher has been sentenced to four years in prison for having sex with teenage boys at her home. Thirty-three-year-old Stacy Schuler was convicted on Thursday of sexual battery.
The former teacher was accused of having sex in 2010 with five Mason High School students, some football players. Schuler resigned at Mason High School in February after her arrest earlier this year. She was a teacher and athletic trainer at the school since 2000 and had been on paid leave since Jan. 18 after an anonymous tip triggered the school's investigation.

Link Between BP Spill And Dolphin Deaths Investigated

The federal government still has no idea if the April 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico caused the deaths of hundreds of dolphins.

Since early 2010, an unusually high number of marine mammals -- 580, mostly dolphins -- have stranded and died off the coast of Louisiana to Florida. On Thursday, officials with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the federal agency that tracks marine mammal deaths, announced that a bacteria called Brucella was found in five bottlenose dolphins that died in the northern Gulf of Mexico.

How Catholic Conservatives Could Quietly Remake the Republican Presidential Race

As this point in the presidential campaign cycle, those of us in the press corps have typed tens of thousands of words about the influential role of evangelicals in selecting the next Republican nominee. Sure, sometimes we use the phrase “social conservatives” to recognize that evangelical Protestants aren’t the only voters who care about social issues. When it comes to specifics, however, we cite polls that track evangelical preferences and we write about candidates appearing at evangelical churches or winning endorsements from evangelical leaders.

Iconic Buildings In D.C. Get Facelifts

It has been a strange few weeks for iconic buildings in Washington, D.C. You've seen engineers rappelling down the Washington Monument and stone masons on the National Cathedral. Soon you'll see workers beginning the restoration of the Capitol Dome skirt — the lower level of the cast-iron dome. The Architect of the Capitol said the restoration will include repairing and restoring historic ironwork, sandstone and brick masonry. Work has been going on behind the scenes for several months, and scaffolding will be covered with a white scrim so it won't be so obvious. Most of the work will be done at night and on weekends to ensure minimal disruption to Congressional business, events and public tours.

Pentagon's Undersecretary For Personnel Has Resigned

The Pentagon's undersecretary for personnel has resigned amid an investigation into complaints of waste and mismanagement. Retired Marine major general Clifford Stanley plans to leave in the next two weeks, but Pentagon officials said Stanley's decision to resign was his own and that the investigation was not a factor in his decision. Since Stanley took office in February 2010, several anonymous complaints were filed against him with the Defense Department's inspector general. The complaints alleged that Stanley was abusive to staff, wasted money on expensive and unneeded contractors and was not up to his job.

The US Is Fast Becoming A Third World Police State

As a P.T. (often referred to as perpetual traveller, permanent tourist or prior taxpayer), I have travelled to nearly 100 countries.  During those travels there has always been one defining moment, upon entry into a country, which shows that the country is what is generally thought of as a "third world country".

It is the moment when, upon arrival, you are charged a fee to enter the country.  The reason generally being that the government of the country has so destroyed the economy and/or they have so little understanding of what creates wealth that they think that the way to make their country prosperous is to charge a fee upon entry rather than allowing people to enter freely and transact, trade and spend their money in the economy.  Either that or the government is so desperate for money that it uses this as a significant source of revenue.

They have this in Cambodia, Indonesia, Bolivia and numerous other similar countries.  And now, they have it in the US.

The US has long-used "visa application fees" to bilk money from people in countries like Thailand as a way to raise money but now the US has announced that they are going to charge a $5.50 fee to Canadians upon entering the US.

Maryland Firms Encouraged To Export Products

Bobby Patton transformed a trip across Europe into a working vacation by stopping at hotels to promote Patton Electronics.

This was in the early years of the Gaithersburg-based business, and the first time it went global. The company's efforts to reach an international market paid off, and now it does about 70 percent of its business outside the United States.

Patton shared his company history at Anne Arundel Community College recently, during a session designed to encourage manufacturers to export their products.

He said businesses often are reluctant to expand overseas because of the risk.

As the news that Amy Winehouse died from alcohol poisoning traveled around the world Wednesday, some were shocked to hear exactly how much alcohol the late singer had in her system at the time of her death. According to a pathologist who testified during the inquest, Winehouse's blood-alcohol level was .416 when she died, more than five times the legal limit for driving. In both the United States and Britain, the legal limit to drive is .08.
