Rush Blasts Budget Deal, GOP

Talk radio pundit Rush Limbaugh blasts the federal budget agreement reached on Friday, saying that if spending cuts total only $38 billion there is going to be “hell to pay” with tea party activists who want much deeper cuts.

He also criticizes the GOP for compromising with Democrats, and says if they continue to “cave” it will be a “disaster” for conservatives in promulgating their agenda.

On his Monday show, Limbaugh began his discussion of the budget agreement by saying that the tea party has changed the entire debate.

“I never thought I’d see a day when the budget is the primary focus of interest in the United States of America,” he said. “The tea party has changed all of that.

“But 38 billion? What happened to the campaign promise of $100 billion?”
Rush said he told an audience Friday night that “if $38 billion is it, there’s going to be hell to pay. This is not going to be satisfactory, not when we accrue $38 billion in debt in two and a half days.”

He said on Monday: “The deal is done. The debate has shifted from spending to cutting $38 billion. I’m sorry I can’t start throwing parties over it, but it’s a first step.

“But I wish they had kept their promise. I wish it had been $100 billion.
“If the lesson learned from this is that the way to go is compromise with the left, then it’s going to be a disaster.

The left is not going to compromise on the redistribution of wealth or income or tax increases for the wealthy. They are not going to compromise on their core belief. They have to be defeated. And by defeat I mean more and more election victories like we had in November.”

Limbaugh is concerned that Republicans will also be willing to compromise with Democrats on lifting the ceiling on federal debt.

How Liberals “Grow” An Economy…50% Tax Increase!

By Delegate Mike McDermott
The war on rural Maryland continues with the 50% Tax increase on alcohol passed by the Senate and being fought out on the floor of the House of Delegates. This last minute shot at citizens and our business community carries with it an interesting fiscal note. The Department of Legislative Services states clearly that this bill will cause jobs to be lost in Maryland and result in a decrease in overall sales. In spite of these facts, we are having this rammed down our collective throats.
Interestingly enough, this tax was supported by the Disabilities and Mental Health communities as they shouted on the Lawyer’s Mall in the rain, “Dime a Drink, with a link!” They actually thought their liberal backers would give them this revenue. Well, to use wheel chair bound folks to push your tax, and then turn around and divide up the spoil for another purpose…in a word, “Shameful” even by liberal standards.
State line communities such as Ocean City, Delmar, and Pocomoke City will suffer greatly and lose jobs as Maryland residents simply cross the border to more tax friendly states. The retail loss is bad enough, but this bill will be implemented on July 1st…the very height of our vacation season at the beach. Computers will need to be changed, software purchased, employees trained in the new tiered tax system, and all must be done overnight. Amendments were offered to alter this date to before or after the season to no effect. This will serve to further crush the only area of our regional economy where Maryland is still competitive tax wise.
With a budget already reconciled, here comes the slush fund. We asked, “Who decided, and who divided the spoil in this back room deal?” Well, the big three, (Baltimore City, Montgomery County, and Prince Georges County) made sure that they raked in $27 million for their schools; while they gave $1.25 million to be shared by 8 counties on the Eastern Shore. Divided evenly on the shore, we will receive $156,000.00 for each county…what a deal! It is these “back room deals” that the voters of Maryland have rejected with contempt. It is this “shadow government”, where the blinds are drawn and the shades are pulled that, more often than not, decides the winners and the losers in Annapolis.
Brought up on the 89th day, after the budget was already settled, this tax bill slithered into the House Chamber with no warning. We fought diligently for 6-hours to amend a bill that we were not even prepared to address until the Speaker grew weary and cut off our opportunity to even offer amendments. It was totally out of order, but that does not matter when your government displays tyrannical behavior.
To make matters worse, we began our debate on this tax on Third Reader Monday morning and it was cut off almost before it began. What an outrage for the people of Maryland! Not only did they not have an opportunity to weigh in on the issue, their elected representatives were cut off as well. We were reduced to a two-minute statement to merely “explain” our votes. While business men and women filled the galleries in the House Chamber looking on in dismay, all of the delegates from the urban counties crushed the consumers in Maryland with this draconian tax.
This is not “representative democracy in action”; these are the actions of a banana republic. So while Rome burns, Nero fiddles, and the people of Maryland can name that tune in one collective note: Montgomery County $9 million, Prince George’s County $9 million, Baltimore City $9 million; and the tune for each county on the Eastern Shore: only $156,000.00.

Dog Found At Parsons Cemetery

Hi Joe,

We found this male dog today at Parsons Cemetery. He followed us home and we asked neighbors if they had seen him before but no one recognized him. He is very friendly and hyper! He looks to have been groomed recently and is wearing a brown collar. He also had a bandanna around his neck and I took it off for the picture so if someone claims that he belongs to them, they can identify the bandanna. A photo is attached. My phone number is 410.726.6248.

Pollitt to Meet with County Council

Some will say – “Better late than never.”

Tomorrow morning, Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollitt will meet with the county council to discuss the upcoming county budget:

County Executive Rick Pollitt is pleased to announce that he will meet with the County Council in a work session to begin preliminary budget discussions. The meeting will be held Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at the MAC Center, Suite 100, 909 Progress Circle, Salisbury, Md beginning at 9:00 a.m.

This meeting will be held at the MAC Center, near the Holly Center, just off Snow Hill Road.

While I am glad that Pollitt is actually meeting with the council, we have to ask a few questions – “Why now?” and “Why at the MAC Center?”.  The council has requested meetings earlier in the process and have been denied.  The budget is basically complete and Pollitt will be introducing the new budget in about a week.  Pollitt has consistently refused to attend council meetings and has now set this meeting away from the GOB.  Originally, this meeting was given no public notice and was done so only at the insistence of the council.

While I hope that this meeting will be productive, I also hope that members of the public turn out to see what is happening.

Will Barrie Comegys Waste More Money Tonight?

Tonight will be the last opportunity for the Barrie Comegys bloc of the Salisbury City Council to waste more taxpayer dollars.  Will the bloc, consisting of members Louise Smith, Gary Comegys, and Shanie Shields, support using 2/3 of the city’s CDBG funds to demolish the “Linens of the Week” building.

Weren’t we told that state money would come to handle demolition and remediation?

Mayor Jim Ireton wants to use almost $200,000 of these federal funds to demolish the building.  However, it is unlikely that this money will cover the costs due to soil contamination and possible lead and asbestos problems in building itself.

We should remember that opposition to the city acquiring this property was BECAUSE of the COST of demolition and remediation.  Now needed infrastructure appointments will not take place so that one property, already taken off of the tax rolls, can continue to move forward and continue to suck tax dollars.

Delaware Police Baffled By Federal Official's Killing

NEWARK, Del. (AP) -- Newark police say a tip line set up in hopes of obtaining information about the killing of a former Pentagon official has not produced any leads.

Police Lt. Mark Farrall says the tip line was set up after John Wheeler's family offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in his death. But Farrall says the tip line has not been generated any useful information, and that authorities are still asking the public for assistance in the investigation.

Police have not identified any suspects and have yet to determine where Wheeler was killed or how his body wound up in a trash bin in Newark. He was last seen wandering around downtown Wilmington in a confused state in the two days before his body was found.

18 County Police Officers 'Untruthful'

All resigned or were terminated since 2007
Eighteen county police officers and cadets resigned or were terminated over the past 41/2 years amid internal investigations into their integrity, according to data obtained by The Capital.

In all 18 cases, Internal Affairs "sustained" allegations involving "untruthfulness," said Justin Mulcahy, a department spokesman.

The nature of their alleged lies is unclear.

Citing the confidentiality of personnel records, County Police Chief James Teare Sr. declined to name the officers or speak about the specific cases.

In general terms, the chief blamed the resignations and terminations on a 2006 ruling by the state's Court of Appeals that requires prosecutors to reveal more details about an officer's service record to defense attorneys.

Morris: IT’S NO DEAL, IT’S A SELLOUT

John Boehner has just given away the Republican victory of 2010 at the bargaining table. Like the proverbial Uncle Sam who always wins the war but loses the peace, he has unilaterally disarmed the Republican Party by showing that he will not shut down the government and will, instead, willingly give way on even the most modest of cuts in order to avoid it. He now has no arrows left in his quiver.

Having failed to stand firm for just $61 billion in cuts in a budget of $3.7 trillion, how can we expect him to stand firm over the debt limit extension or the 2012 budget? We can’t. The excellent budget proposals of Paul Ryan are no more than a pipe dream now. Boehner has sold us out now and he’ll sell us out again.

It is the duty of every Republican Congressman to vote no on this terrible deal. It violates our campaign promises to the American people. We promised $100 billion of cuts and we delivered $38 billion ($62 billion on a twelve month basis). In the Republican House’s first real test out of the box it has broken the promise over which it was elected. Only in Meat Loaf’s music is “two out of three not bad.”

This concession makes it clear that:

* Obamacare will not be defunded.

* The EPA will not be blocked from regulating carbon.
* The NLRB will not be stopped from forcing an end to secret ballots in union contests.
* Medicaid will not be block granted and turned over to the states.
* Welfare spending will not be cut nor work requirements imposed.

* The FCC will not be stopped from regulating talk radio.

In short, we have accomplished nothing by our hard work in 2010.

Except we have learned a lesson.

And the lesson is this: We need to purify our party and purge it of the likes of John Boehner and all those Congressmen who vote for the budget sellout. The Tea Party must take the lead in this purifying fire. We must not let the RINOs win!

DickMorris.com will post prominently (and permanently) the names of all GOP freshmen who vote for this rotten deal. It will be in a column headed: THESE ARE THE SELLOUTS. Check it out and back their primary opponents!

NY Debate On Homeland Security Becomes Heated

A hearing in Manhattan on the subject of homeland security exploded on Friday when an Arab-American activist testified that she was taught as a youngster to “hate Jews” and “hate America”. Her comments enraged a Brooklyn lawmaker, who in response grabbed a Koran and accused her of spreading “hate and poison.”

The meeting was attended by ex-Muslim Nonie Darwish, director of Former Muslims United and founder of Arabs for Israel.

Darwish was born in Cairo and spent her childhood in Egypt and Gaza before immigrating to America in 1978, when she was eight years old. Her father, a high-ranking Egyptian military officer, died while leading covert attacks on Israel when he was in Gaza. While he was considered a “shahid” (martyr), earning Darwish and her family an elevated position in Muslim society, Darwish developed a skeptical eye at an early age, questioning Muslim culture and later abandoning Islam.

Darwish authored the book Cruel and Usual Punishment: The Terrifying Global Implications of Islamic Law, in which she warns about the Islamic Sharia law and how it is manifested in Islamic countries.

She has said in the past that the hatred Muslims have for Jews is even worse than the hatred the Nazis had for them.

The New York Post quoted Darwish as saying during Friday’s meeting: “Check what's going on -- it's not a secret. You’re supposed to hate Jews, you’re supposed to hate America, you’re supposed to hate Western culture.”

In response, Democratic Senator Eric Adams held up a copy of the Koran and said: “This is offending this hearing by having her here. This is not our enemy...You’re bringing hate, hate and poison into a diverse country.”

The meeting chairman, Republican Greg Ball, instructed Adams to quiet down, which resulted in a shouting match between the two. Adams suggested that Ball condoned bigotry, and in response, Ball accused Adams of playing to the TV cameras.

“I'm glad no one is between those TV cameras and you,” Ball told Adams, “because that's the most dangerous place in New York City right now.”

Darwish was followed later by Frank J. Gaffney Jr., a former Defense Department official who has publicly criticized Islam. In his testimony Gaffney denounced Sharia law as a threat to the United States.

Also taking part in the hearing was Long Island Republican Representative Peter T. King, who initiated a Congressional hearing held last month on the question of homegrown Islamic terrorism.

The New York Times reported that King prefaced his comments by noting that “99 percent” of Muslims in the United States are “outstanding Americans” and not terrorists.

Democrats Will Yield On Everything But Abortion

This Democratic Senate and White House are clearly willing to disappoint their base on many issues. They've agreed to spending cuts and tax cuts for the wealthy, scrapped a public option, and continued warrantless wiretaps, indefinite detention of terrorism suspects and unnecessary wars on Arab dictators. But in last week's budget debate we glimpsed the party's unshakable core: dedication to the abortion lobby.

President Obama had promised to veto the House-passed bill funding government through the end of the fiscal year, and Majority Leader Harry Reid made it clear the Senate would never pass it. But the final agreement -- with most of the cuts Republicans wanted, plus funding for school vouchers in Washington -- proved that the Democratic opposition was grounded not in Keynesian fears of spending cuts or liberal concern over service cuts.

The deal breaker for Democrats had been the rider cutting off federal funds for Planned Parenthood. As a "senior Democratic source" told the Huffington Post on Friday, "The cuts will be hard for us to swallow, but we won't bend on Title X" -- that is, federal funding of Planned Parenthood. "Reid doesn't even have to go back to the caucus to ask on that one."

Reid said so himself Friday: "We are not -- we are not! -- bending on women's health." When you consider the flexibility of Reid on other issues, this shows extraordinary devotion.

Republican rank and file were equally insistent on not funding the abortion provider. But in the horse trading over spending cuts Friday night, GOP leaders agreed not to filibuster a Senate amendment next week to reinsert Planned Parenthood funding. That was enough for Democrats -- the deal was done.

John Maynard Keynes would be horrified at the thought of cutting government spending at a time of 9.2 percent unemployment, and many liberals expressed anger at the agreement. But Planned Parenthood celebrated: "American women made their voices heard," the group's website trumpeted over the weekend.

On all the big fights during Obama's presidency, Planned Parenthood has gotten what it wants: abortion subsidies in Obamacare, two Supreme Court justices who will uphold Roe v. Wade, and staunchly pro-choice Kathleen Sebelius at the Department of Health and Human Services, among other things.

It's no wonder. Planned Parenthood is no simple health care clinic -- it is a part of the Democratic Party. And despite the talk about "women's health," it is about abortion.

Planned Parenthood points out that most of its services do not involve abortion, but this misses the point. First, if Planned Parenthood didn't provide abortions, there would be very little energy to strip its funding. Second, almost all of its services for pregnant women are abortions, according to its own fact sheet published last month: It performed 332,278 abortions in 2009, while serving 7,021 prenatal clients and referring 977 parents to adoption services.

Liberals argue that Planned Parenthood's federal funding -- a bit more than a third of its billion-dollar budget -- does not fund its abortions, but only pays for other worthy services. But that's like the notorious gambler who asks you for money to feed his family. If you decline on the grounds that he'll just gamble the money away, he retorts, "No, man, I've already got my gambling money -- it's the food money I need."

Planned Parenthood already has its aborting money, it's the HIV test money it needs from the taxpayers.

Texas May Ban Courts From Considering Foreign Laws

Texas lawmakers are considering whether to ban state courts from considering foreign religious or cultural laws, such as the Islamic law of Shariah.

The goal "is to require a Texas court to uphold and apply only the laws ordained by the constitutions of (Texas and the United States), prohibiting any other interpretation," said Rep. Leo Berman, R-Tyler, a former Arlington mayor pro tem. "This is now happening all over Europe ... and in Dearborn, Mich. ... and it could spread throughout the United States.

"We all know what Shariah law does to women - women must wear burqas, women are subject to humiliation and into controlled marriages under Shariah law," he said. "We want to prevent it from ever happening in Texas."

A bill by Berman to prevent foreign laws from being recognized in Texas courts, as well as a twin proposal by Rep. Randy Weber, R-Pearland, went before the House Committee on Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence last week. Both bills were left pending.

Texas is among several states - including Alaska, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Tennessee - considering bans on the recognition of foreign laws, according to the Institute for U.S. Law.

Seattle School Renames Easter Eggs 'Spring Spheres'

Seattle, Washington sounds like a town competing for the most ACLU-friendly city in America. A public school teacher there told a teenage volunteer she could hand out Easter eggs with candy....as long as she called them "Spring Spheres."

Jessica, 16, told KIRO Radio's Dori Monson Show that a week before spring break, the students commit to a week-long community service project. She decided to volunteer in a third grade class at a public school, which she would like to remain nameless.

"At the end of the week I had an idea to fill little plastic eggs with treats and jelly beans and other candy, but I was kind of unsure how the teacher would feel about that," Jessica said. She was concerned how the teacher might react to the eggs after of a meeting earlier in the week where she learned about "their abstract behavior rules."

"I went to the teacher to get her approval and she wanted to ask the administration to see if it was okay," Jessica explained. "She said that I could do it as long as I called this treat 'spring spheres.' I couldn't call them Easter eggs."

Gov. Walker Vows: Unions Won't Steal Prosser Election Win

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is vowing to Newsmax readers that organized labor will not steal back the dramatic come-from-behind victory of Supreme Court Justice David Prosser even if unions end up paying for a recount.

In an exclusive interview with Newsmax -- part of a national tour to drum up national support for his dramatic fight against public union power in Wisconsin -- the Republican governor says there is no way any legitimate recount would result in a victory for Prosser's liberal opponent.

But that doesn't remove the threat. Under Wisconsin law organized labor can get a recount if they're woking to pay for it. Walker says unions hope to replicate in Wisconsin “what was pulled off with Senator [Al] Franken in Minnesota." He promises, though, that Republicans will be on guard against any post-election ballot shenanigans.

Walker is referring to Democrat Al Franken’s upset win over GOP incumbent Sen. Norm Coleman in 2008, which saw a Coleman lead on Election Night morph into a Franken victory during a drawn-out recount battle, came during an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV.

Walker’s concern over the integrity of Wisconsin’s spring elections came in the context of Justice Prosser’s battle for re-election over liberal challenger JoAnne Kloppenburg.

The unions poured millions of dollars into the race because a victory would give liberal jurists a 4-3 majority in the state Supreme Court. The race also was seen as a national test of whether standing up to the unions could be too costly on Election Day. The contest became a political battle royal and set a record for outside television expenditures by third-party groups.

After Tuesdays election, Kloppenburg appeared to be clinging to a paper-thin 204-vote margin out of 1.5 million votes cast.

But on Thursday, officials conducting a routine canvass discovered that 14,000 votes cast in heavily Republican Waukesha County were inadvertently omitted from the vote totals that were submitted to state election officials.

When those votes from the conservative stronghold were counted, Prosser shot out to a 7,500-vote lead.

Walker tells Newsmax that Prosser’s lead is well above the number needed to avoid the automatic statewide recount that Democrats are seeking. But he added state law allows them to request a recount as long as they’re willing to underwrite the cost.

“That will be pretty costly,” Walker says. “But I think it’s pretty clear that the big government labor-union bosses that have been fighting the reforms in Wisconsin now for the past month and a half, I don’t think they’re going to give up.

I think they’re going to throw out everything here, and hope somehow they can pull of what was pulled off with Senator Franken in Minnesota.”

Walker assured Newsmax that Republicans would be “looking very closely” to ensure that does not happen. The key, he said, is to ensure all valid ballots are counted and that no additional ballots are added in.

“And as long as somebody’s not trying to bring in new ballots, I think we’re not going to have what we saw in Minnesota,” Walker told Newsmax.

EPA's Days As 'Rogue Agency' Are Numbered

Lost in the kabuki-dance drama of last week's budget showdown were immensely important votes in the Senate and House on the Environmental Protection Agency's efforts to govern through regulation. In the House, 19 Democrats joined the Republican majority in a decisive 255-172 vote to defund the EPA's attempt to circumvent Congress and begin its own cap-and-trade program.

The measure was introduced by House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton of Michigan. A companion measure introduced in the Senate by Sen. Jim Inhofe, the Oklahoma Republican who is the ranking minority member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, fell just short of the votes needed for passage, despite support from three Democrats.

Supporters of the EPA effort should think twice before cheering the outcome of the Senate vote because, while the regulatory initiative is safe for now, the prospects for its long-term survival are dim, prompting Politico to headline a recent story, "EPA holds on for dear life." The reason the outlook is so grim for the EPA on this issue is the fact that a growing number of congressional Democrats have had enough of being threatened by executive branch political appointees.

'Gaza Has Become A Terrorist State'

Gaza has become a terrorist state, President Shimon Peres said in a meeting with foreign ambassadors. “Hundreds of thousands of mothers and their children in southern Israel cannot sleep at night as a result of the rocket attacks from Gaza,” he said.

The ambassadors hailed from countries represented on the United Nations Security Council, as well as countries in the Middle East.

“Can the United Nations guarantee that terror attacks will not happen again? None of you would give up on the safety and security of your citizens, just as Israel will stand in its own defense,” Peres declared. He tied recent terrorist attacks to international “flotillas” attempting to break Israel's naval blockade of Hamas, saying, “Whoever wants to help Gaza should insist that Gazans stop firing on Israel.”

He also took issue with the UN over Iran, whose head, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has called to destroy Israel. “Why do you permit him to do this while allowing him to continue to be a member?” he asked.

The UN is inherently anti-Israel due to its organization, but Israel is committed to membership nonetheless, Peres added. “We can never benefit from a majority. The blocs in the UN are based on being anti-Israel and we don't have an opportunity for justice. In spite of this we will continue to struggle on and fight for peace.”

Peres' remarks followed a terrorist attack on an Israeli school bus in which one boy was critically wounded. Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack.

The media is sounding off: who came out looking like the 'good guy' after the drawn-out budget debate?

USPS Makes A Case For Debt Relief

The Postal Service says Congress needs to make changes to laws that are hindering its efforts to return to profitability and pay down its debt.

Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe and two members of the USPS Board of Governors told a hearing of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee that a 2006 postal reform law requiring the agency to make accelerated prepayments for retiree health benefits was the primary reason the service was deeply in the red and likely to hit its $15 billion debt ceiling later this year.

Donahoe asked for help during hearing scrutinizing a contract approved in recently-completed negotiations between USPS and its largest collective bargaining unit, the American Postal Workers Union (APWU).

"This contract falls short of the goal. It is very clear that the intention is good; the Postmaster has worked diligently to get some concessions," said Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), chairman of the committee during the hearing Tuesday. "However, we will hear today that we, in fact, under current law, may not be able to negotiate the contract that needs to be negotiated."

Postal officials said the tentative contract was the best they could do under a system which threatens to move any negotiations that reach the stage of impasse into the hands of a third-party arbiter.

"Failure to reach a negotiated agreement places us in binding arbitration," said Louis Giuliano, chairman of the Board of Governors at the Postal Service. Arbitration "would not have allowed us to realize most of the benefits we see under this negotiated contract."

Hypnotist Performs to Raise Funds
Mardela High School

On May 19, the Prom Committee at Mardela Middle and High School will present a unique comedy experience to local audiences. The school will once again feature Jason Linett, a nationally-known comedy hypnotist, who will present one show as a fundraiser at 7 p.m. May 19. (This show has been rescheduled from March 4.) This is Linett's second time working with the school to raise funds. “The hypnosis show combines the fun of audience participation with the incredible abilities of the mind,” says Linett, who lives in Alexandria, Va. “It’s the ultimate reality show.”

Audiences can expect to see willing volunteers rapidly induced into a hypnotic trance and then given funny suggestions. Jason added, “I don’t embarrass the volunteers, and I don’t even let them embarrass themselves.” Some of Linett’s favorite suggestions during the show include turning himself invisible and turning volunteers into celebrity impersonators. Linett has performed at schools, comedy venues, and corporate events across the country. “Fundraising events are always my favorite,” says Linett. “There’s no better feeling than putting on a show that a school can be proud to present, and helping students raise the funds for a great cause.”

Jason Linett is a Certified Hypnotist with the National Guild of Hypnotists, the largest hypnotherapy organization in the world. He is the director of Virginia Hypnosis, a hypnotherapy center in Old Town Alexandria, and is also the author of nearly a dozen self-help audio hypnosis programs.
