Comment Moderation

Folks, today is a very busy day for me. Unfortunately, Blogger is having some issues with comment moderation and we can expect delays in comments being published throughout the day.

I will not be around most of the day. In fact, I won't return until this evening as I have to go to Annapolis in just a few minutes to take care of some personal business referencing my Mother's condition.

These kind of days can be expected for a while and I truly apologize. However, I believe each and every one of you can understand my position and situation.

I want to personally thank ALL of you for your kind wishes. In fairness, my Mother's condition has become much worse and we need to be with her, especially today.

Thanks for understanding and I should be back later this evening.

Senator Rich Colburn Hosts 31st Annual Fall Banquet

It was a packed house once again this year as Senator Rich Colburn continues to prove his support in his District is strong and well.

Senate Minority Leader Allan Kittleman was the Guest Speaker at this event, introduced by Senator Andy Harris.

Rich has already raised more than $11,000.00 in his campaign for re-election and yes, Rich informed the crowd Saturday night he will be running again.

Wicomico Home Show A Success

The Home Show held at the Civic Center was actually a huge success this year. I was told by vendors there was more traffic this year than last year and they felt the leads they achieved were more solid this year as well.

I don't know where the money is coming from but it's good news to those who took the risk in showing off their products.

Mike McDermott Hosts Very Successful Fundraiser

Last weekend, despite a brief burst of rain, Mike McDermott hosted his first fundraiser as he is running for State Delegate. More than 300 tickets were sold and Mike gave a speech that was one that held you from the second he started all the way through to the end. He's very good at that. I do believe this man wants to change the scope of politics in Annapolis and I firmly believe this is the man that can do it. Be sure to support Mike McDermott at the polls about a year from now.

Salisbury Cold Case Files

Hollywood makes movies out of Towns like Salisbury. Come to the Easter Shore where the Wild West still lives on. The Chief of Police has driven out almost every veteran it retained and is now down 12 Officers. Chiefy hired a retired Officer from New York to recruit new Officers, yet we're down 12 and the ONLY Officers we can bring in don't even have to shave yet.

Salisbury, Maryland has become the Cold Case Capital Of The World. Chiefy was an Internal Affairs Officer back in Baltimore, hardly a real Cop. You know who they are, right? They're the guys that investigate other Cops. You know, the most hated Cops in the world. I'm not saying they're not necessary, because they are. However, how do you go from being an internal Affairs Investigator to the Chief of Police in a City riddled with crime and murder.

Ever since Webster got on board, crime has risen through the roof and we are now the SECOND Most Dangerous City In America. Is Mayor Ireton a complete Idiot? Can you see his tail between his legs, afraid of a BS lawsuit Webster has threatened against the City.

I'l tell you what Folks. If I was Mayor of this City, I would have fired his A$$ immediately and I would have invited him to sue the City. If there's ever been a time when the City threw good money after good money, it would be based on the safety of the Citizens. Instead, now we're stuck with yet another murder that us unsolved.

The Pemberton Apartments have been riddled with gunshots and crime, there was a prostitute murdered and the SPD was loaded with information as to who the State believed the killer was and nothing has come of it. There was the Shell Gas Station murder and let's not forget Anitra Pirkle. She was abducted in the City, stabbed in the City and dumped off in Delmar. Chiefy likes to pass that murder off on the County but in all reality it started in the City Limits.

Even the Daily Times stated that the neighbors yesterday complained about hearing gunshots daily in their community and the SPD used to patrol that area but now they don't. Get this, now Chiefy is asking the citizens to help out. OK Chiefy, give us guns and a badge and you can rest assure that citizens will take to the streets and protect our neighborhoods.

Police Officers complain they don't get paid enough money and that's why Salisbury is having a difficult time getting Officer. BS!!!!!! Once Officers are hired, they want out of Salisbury so fast they can't see straight. Once they come to work for this control freak and arrogant leader, they start applying elsewhere almost immediately.

There used to be a waiting list to come to work for the SPD, now what do you have. If ONE job became available 14 years ago, they'd get 250 Cops applying for ONE position. Now they have to hire a retired Cop to go out and recruit Officers! Whatever this Chief of Police is doing is failing. People are being killed in the mean time, yet when you look into the County and see what the Sheriff is doing, there's simply no complaints. In fact, the Sheriff's Department is where MOST of the SPD Officer go to apply because they have leadership that closes murder cases, rare as they may be.

Before anyone else gets killed, call the Mayor and tell him, "Enough Is Enough." Tell him you want this Chief of Police terminated immediately before anyone else gets killed. Tell him we need real leadership and not some wanna be cop who refuses to wear a uniform. You want someone who would be proud to wear a uniform and represent the City of Salisbury.

I'll close with this Folks. The Chief of Police has so much control over Mayor Jim Ireton, when they held a Press Conference a few months ago at the SPD, Webster forced the Mayor to hold it OUTSIDE of the building because Mayor Ireton insisted I be allowed into the Press Conference. The compromise was, if you want it held here at the SPD, you'll hold it outside, period. Chiefy made everyone stand outside in the heat, on a parking lot, simply because he wasn't going to let Albero into his building.

Well guess what Chiefy. I own more of that building than you'll ever own. You pay absolutely NO TAXES in the City. The Mayor and Chief are well aware, if they resist me from attending another Press Conference inside the SPD, the City will be sued. Chief Webster is playing chess with the City and the Mayor is falling for his BS. Chiefy can't afford to sue the City, period. Trust me, I know, right Chiefy. You need to go Webster!

SALISBURY MAYOR TO MAKE MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT TODAY REGARDING THE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

Salisbury Mayor James Ireton, Jr., will hold a press conference today, Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at 1:30 p.m., regarding the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant. The press conference will be held on the front steps of the City/County Government Office Building, 125 N. Division Street, Salisbury.

Con vs Lib

If a conservative doesn’t like guns, he doesn`t buy one.
If a liberal doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.

If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn`t eat meat.
If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.

If a conservative sees a foreign threat, he thinks about how to defeat his enemy.
A liberal wonders how to surrender gracefully and still look good.

If a conservative is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.
If a liberal is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.

If a black man or Hispanic are conservative, they see themselves as independently successful.
Their liberal counterparts see themselves as victims in need of government protection.

If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a conservative doesn’t like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Liberals demand that those they don’t like be shut down.

If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn’t go to church.
A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced. (Unless it’s a foreign religion, of course!)

If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his.

If a conservative slips and falls in a store, he gets up, laughs and is embarrassed.
If a liberal slips and falls, he grabs his neck, moans like he's in labor and then sues.

If a conservative reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a good laugh.

A liberal will delete it because he's "offended".

Politics As Religion In America

Conservatism has been converted into a religious belief, and now compromise doesn't have a prayer.

By Neal Gabler

For decades now, liberals have been agonizing because conservatives seem to win even when polls show that the public generally disagrees with them. In their postmortems, liberals have placed blame on the way they frame their message, or on the right-wing media drumbeat that drowns out everything else, or on the right's co-opting of the flag, Mom and apple pie, which is designed to make liberals seem like effete, hostile foreign agents.

It's understandable that liberals prefer to think of their subordination as a matter of their own inadequacies or of conservative wiles. Theoretically, you can learn how to improve your message or how to match wits with adversaries, and a lot of liberal hand-wringing has been dedicated to doing just that. But it is becoming increasingly clear that liberals haven't just been succumbing to superior message control, or even to a superior political narrative (conservatives' frontier individualism versus liberals' communitarianism). They are up against something far more intractable and far more difficult to defeat. They are up against religion.

Perhaps the single most profound change in our political culture over the last 30 years has been the transformation of conservatism from a political movement, with all the limitations, hedges and forbearances of politics, into a kind of fundamentalist religious movement, with the absolute certainty of religious belief.

I don't mean "religious belief" literally. This transformation is less a function of the alliance between Protestant evangelicals, their fellow travelers and the right (though that alliance has had its effect) than it is a function of a belief in one's own rightness so unshakable that it is not subject to political caveats. In short, what we have in America today is a political fundamentalism, with all the characteristics of religious fundamentalism and very few of the characteristics of politics.

For centuries, American democracy as a process of conflict resolution has been based on give-and-take; negotiation; compromise; the acceptance of the fact that the majority rules, with respect for minority rights; and, above all, on an agreement to abide by the results of a majority vote. It takes compromise, even defeat, in stride because it is a fluid system. As historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr. once put it, the beauty of a democracy is that the minority always has the possibility of becoming the majority.

Religious fundamentalism, on the other hand, rests on immutable truths that cannot be negotiated, compromised or changed. In this, it is diametrically opposed to liberal democracy as we have practiced it in America. Democrats of every political stripe may defend democracy to the death, but very few would defend individual policies to the death. You don't wage bloody crusades for banking regulation or the minimum wage or even healthcare reform. When politics becomes religion, however, policy too becomes a matter of life and death, as we have all seen.

Hispanic Caucus Calls for Ending Program That Identified 100,000 Illegal Aliens, Many With Criminal Records

(CNSNews.com) – The Congressional Hispanic Caucus has asked the Obama administration to “immediately terminate” a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) program that has identified more than 120,000 illegal aliens over the past three years..

“On behalf of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), we write to ask that you immediately terminate all Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) under the 287(g) program and cease to establish such agreements,” reads the letter to President Obama.

“These agreements are the subject of serious concern as local law enforcement agencies have used the new powers to target communities of color, including a disproportionate number of Latinos, for arrest,” says the letter. “The 287(g) program, which was significantly expanded throughout the Bush Administration, relinquishes the power to enforce federal immigration laws to local law enforcement and corrections agencies. … The misuse of the 287(g) program by its current participants has rendered it ineffective and dangerous to community safety.”

The program, the 287 (g) section added to the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996, created a partnership between the Department of Homeland Security’s ICE and state and local law enforcement to enforce federal immigration laws.

Worth Repeating

ONLY A MAN WOULD ATTEMPT THIS

Just try reading this without laughing till you cry!!!
Pocket Tazer Stun Gun, a great gift for the wife. A guy who purchased his lovely wife a pocket Tazer for their anniversary submitted this:

Last weekend I saw something at Larry's Pistol & Pawn Shop that sparked my interest. The occasion was our 15th anniversary and I was looking for a little something extra for my wife Julie. What I came across was a 100,000-volt, pocket/purse- sized tazer. The effects of the tazer were supposed to be short lived, with no long-term adverse affect on your assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety....??

WAY TOO COOL! Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home. I loaded two AAA batteries in the darn thing and pushed the button. Nothing! I was disappointed. I learned, however, that if I pushed the button and pressed it against a metal surface at the same time; I'd get the blue arc of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs.

AWESOME!!!

Unfortunately, I have yet to explain to Julie what that burn spot is on the face of her microwave.

Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it couldn't be all that bad with only two triple-A batteries, right? There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on intently (trusting little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I really needed to try this thing out on a flesh & blood moving target. I must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a second) and thought better of it. She is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going to give this thing to my wife to protect herself against a mugger, I did want some assurance that it would work as advertised.. Am I wrong? (Short answer: Yeah.)

So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank top with my reading glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, directions in one hand, and tazer in another. The directions said that a one-second burst would shock and disorient your assailant; a two-second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a major loss of bodily control; a three-second burst would purportedly make your assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of water. Any burst longer than three seconds would be wasting the batteries.

All the while I'm looking at this little device measuring about 5" long, less than 3/4 inch in circumference; pretty cute really and (loaded with two itsy, bitsy triple-A batteries) thinking to myself, 'no possible way!' What happened next is almost beyond description, but I'll do my best.. .?

I'm sitting there alone, Gracie looking on with her head cocked to one side as to say, 'don't do it dipwad,' reasoning that a one second burst from such a tiny little ole thing couldn't hurt all that bad. I decided to give myself a one second burst just for heck of it. I touched the prongs to my naked thigh, pushed the button, and . .

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD . . WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION . . . WHAT THE HELL!!!

I'm pretty sure Jessie Ventura ran in through the side door, picked me up in the recliner, then body slammed us both on the carpet, over and over and over again. I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position, with tears in my eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testicles nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest position, and tingling in my legs? The cat was making meowing sounds I had never heard before, clinging to a picture frame hanging above the fireplace, obviously in an attempt to avoid getting slammed by my body flopping all over the living room..

Note: If you ever feel compelled to 'mug' yourself with a tazer, one note of caution: there is no such thing as a one second burst when you zap yourself! You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from your hand by a violent thrashing about on the floor.. A three second burst would be considered conservative?

IT HURT LIKE HELL!!!

A minute or so later (I can't be sure, as time was a relative thing at that point), I collected my wits (what little I had left), sat up and surveyed the landscape. My bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace. The recliner was upside down and about 8 feet or so from where it originally was.. My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching. My face felt like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88 lbs.. I had no control over the drooling.

Apparently I pooped on myself, but was too numb to know for sure and my sense of smell was gone. I saw a faint smoke cloud above my head which I believe came from my hair. I'm still looking for my family jewels and I'm offering a significant reward for their safe return!

My wife, can't stop laughing about my experience, loved the gift,

and now regularly threatens me with it!

If you think education is difficult, try being stupid !!!

No Wonder Our Country Is In Trouble - Meet Your New Czars

Obama asked to be judged by who he surrounds himself with. He named Biden, Paul Volker, Warren Buffet and Gen. James Jones. We know too much about Biden. Paul Volker is nowhere to be seen, Warren Buffet is reaping a fortune on a $5 billion investment in Goldman Sachs and has not been heard from lately. Only Gen. Jones is visible and if you compare his beliefs to Obama's it would appear they have nothing in common. You must, however, take a look at the people he has assembled for day to day advice. Keep in mind Valery Jarret his closest advisor and Chicago confidant.

Finally got a list assembled of these fine Americans. This is a travesty – no legislative over site, an open door to Obama. Not only are we paying the salaries of these 30+ Czars, but also the salaries of the god only knows how large a staff of each.

ABUSE OR FOLLOW THE CONSTITUTION?

Section 8, article 1, commonly referred to as the"WELFARE CLAUSE" and article 3 , commonly referred to as the "COMMERCE CLAUSE" are used to project Washington's power over the States. In order to determine if this is abuse or following the powers granted by the constitution, one should examine Amendments IX and X to determine the intent of the framers.

Amendment IX - The enumeration in the constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

Amendment X - The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.

Welfare Clause - The Congress shall have the power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imports and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, imports and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States.

Commerce Clause - To regulate commerce with foreign nations and among the several states, and the Indian tribes.

The Congress has interpreted the "General Welfare" as giving it the power as authorizing federal laws governing health care, education, the environment and even the sex lives of the people. The Commerce Clause, which was intended to prevent trade barriers between the states has been broadly interpreted as authority for a host of regulations which have come to include the takeover of private companies.

The Constitution is the supreme law of the Nation and words do have meaning. It is for the reader to determine if these words are being twisted or adhered to.

Three Dangerous Stooges

by Victor Davis Hanson
Tribune Media Services

Last week, three dictators — from Iran, Libya and Venezuela — delivered lunatic hate speeches at the General Assembly of the United Nations.

Why do these anti-Semitic dictators feel so free to damn America from downtown New York? Why do their abettors spurn our requests for help? And why do creepy regimes plot to get nukes, and fund terrorists?

Easy. They do not fear, much less listen, to an indebted and energy-hungry America that either needs their cash or oil — or both.

Libya's Moammar Gadhafi raved for 90 minutes. He railed about everything from the Kennedy assassination to his own jet lag. He trashed the United States and the Jews. Even Gadhafi's translator collapsed from exhaustion trying to keep up with the stream-of-consciousness insanity.

Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad offered his usual madness. Once again, he libeled the Jews. He denied his country's breakneck efforts at getting the bomb. And he blamed the United States for his own self-inflicted problems.

Shortly afterward, Tehran disclosed it's been secretly building a second nuclear enrichment facility.

Venezuela's Hugo Chavez may have delivered the strangest monologue. He mostly idolized leftwing filmmaker Oliver Stone for making a fawning documentary about revolutionary Venezuela. But somehow Chavez also brought up the Kennedy assassination. And, yes, he also faulted America for his own problems.

Chavez has cut off all relations with Israel. Jews have been increasingly attacked in Venezuela, and reports have spread that Chavez is reaching out to Iran for a nuclear program.

Listening to all this insanity, it's clear that the problems these dictators pose (and the attitudes they represent) go beyond whether our president is Texan George Bush or post-national Barack Obama. And they cannot be solved alone by loud or soft presidential rhetoric, but only by changing both our behavior and theirs.

Take away oil and the money it garners — Iran, Libya and Venezuela are all large petroleum exporters — and these strongmen would never receive high-profile television venues at the U.N. Oil props up all three economies, which have largely been wrecked by their own incompetence.

Libyan oil, it seems, helped persuade the British to release the mass-murdering Libyan Lockerbie bomber. Iranian oil money fuels Hezbollah, destabilizing Lebanon. Venezuelan oil money goes to narco-terrorists in Columbia. Oil wealth helps these regimes put down democratic reformers, hunt down dissidents abroad, or shut down the media.

All three freely express hatred of Jews, reminding us that there is no longer a downside to flashy anti-Semitism. It used to be rightwing scourges whom we associated with the hatred of a Hitler or the Klan. Today, leftist oil-rich thugs voice slander against tiny Israel to show their revolutionary credentials, even as they find scapegoats for their own colossal failures.

Ahmadinejad, Chavez and Gadhafi are not just regional buffoons, but international dangers. Iran will probably get a few bombs soon. Gadhafi was scheming to obtain one until the Iraq war — and has the money and the anger to try again. Chavez brags he has bought "little rockets" from Russia and now wants his own nuclear program.

America better pay attention. The president is to be congratulated for pressing for more alternative energy and conservation to curb our imports and bring down the global price of oil. But until we reach a new age of non-carbon fuels, we must far better exploit the oil and coal we have. Recent large finds in Alaska, California, North Dakota and off the Gulf Coast remind us that America has plenty of oil left. Its rapid development would lower our import bill, reduce global prices and take some profits out of these repugnant three regimes.

Our enemies have cash; we don't. The United States is running a projected $2 trillion annual deficit, while adding to an existing $11 trillion national debt.

That makes it hard to, say, ask rich, cocky Russia for help with Iran. Vladimir Putin's regime is now the world's largest oil exporter, flush with money and waiting to regain even more of its former influence when the next energy crisis hits.

China is our largest foreign creditor, financing our growing budget shortfalls at low interest. Both Russia and China understand that most of the world's renegade regimes hate us more than they do them, and that America is divided at home, broke and hungry for oil.

Bottom line: The United States — even with the world's largest military — is having a hard time pleading for Russian help, lecturing China to act responsibly, boycotting Iran, or isolating Gadhafi or Chavez.

It wouldn't if we produced our own energy and got our financial house in order.

Conservatives Pounce On Michelle Obama: Meningitis Remarks A Lie?

It seemed to be a perfect example of a tasteless political fib: Michelle Obama invoking a heart-wrenching but untrue story about her daughter Sasha's medical woes.

A conservative blogger concluded: "Today Mrs. Obama says (Sasha) was four months old but fortunately did not have meningitis. Yet just eight days ago her husband said she was three months old and was diagnosed with meningitis." One blog used the opportunity to reprint the Obama-as-Joker photo, HotAir.com called it "serious incompetence" on the Obamas' part, it appeared on Breitbart.tv, and the crowd over at FreeRepublic.com dubbed the president a "chronic liar."

There's just one problem with this nice little gotcha story. There's no evidence that either Obama lied.

Let's start at the beginning. On September 10, Barack Obama gave a speech saying: "our youngest daughter, Sasha, was diagnosed with meningitis when she was just three months old" (he used the near-identical line in July and March as well).

Illegal Immigrants To Be Held In Former Hotels

Nursing homes would also be used as Napolitano aims to reform detention

WASHINGTON
- Illegal immigrants awaiting deportation would be confined according to the risk they may pose under a new plan being proposed by the homeland security secretary.

Former hotels, nursing homes and other sites would be used to hold nonviolent, non-criminal immigrants as part of a larger plan to reform immigration detention, according to documents obtained Monday by The Associated Press. The alternative sites are intended to cut the costs of detaining immigrants, which reached nearly $2 billion in 2008.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano will detail her plan Tuesday. The reforms were previewed by the agency in August without as much detail.

FEMA Grant To ACORN Is Offensive

Earlier this month and despite the public scrutiny over the voter fraud and felony criminal activity associated with ACORN, the Department of Homeland Security went ahead and granted $997,402 to ACORN under the FY 2008 Fire Prevention and Safety Program.

To most people, the timing and the amount of the grant would seem off base, but when you take into account the fact that DHS awarded ACORN–an organization with no clear expertise in fire safety and prevention–a fire prevention and safety grant, it’s just plain offensive.

With fire departments all over Louisiana – and the rest of the country – struggling to make ends meet and get the equipment and training they need to protect their local communities, the idea of a million dollar grant going to ACORN is unsettling, to say the least.

I’ve had grave reservations about ACORN for some time, and over the past year we’ve seen numerous examples of serious allegations of wrongdoing on the part of this organization and its employees across the country. I simply can’t see the logic behind diverting much needed funding from worthy fire departments to this organization.

So last week, I wrote a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano requesting that she rescind this grant from ACORN. As of today, the Secretary has not responded to my request. This site will post a copy of the letter for you to read and see for yourself.

Rest assured, I’ll keep working to help prevent further ACORN schemes to procure federal money.

Costly Health Care Reform Harmful Rx For Innovation

By Newt Gingrich and David Merritt

Gingrich is a former speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. He founded the Center for Health Transformation of Washington, D.C., in 2003. Merritt is vice president and national policy director at the center.

Would you like to pay more for your eyeglasses? What about hearing aids? Health insurance and prescription drugs? You would pay more for all of these under the emerging health reform legislation in Washington.

Paying more for health care is not the change most Americans had in mind last November.

Think of how many times then-candidate Barack Obama said his health care plan would save the average family $2,500 per year. But as congressional leaders attempt to raise taxes on small businesses and impose penalties on employers, it is far more likely that the average family would pay an extra $2,500 per year.

The latest examples are the new taxes proposed by U.S. Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., chairman of the Senate Finance Committee. To pay for his health reform plan, he would levy more than $140 billion in new taxes over the next 10 years on drug makers, health insurers and companies that make medical devices.

It is Economics 101 to know that when government levies a tax, it is not the business that will ultimately pay it — consumers will. So the $23 billion tax on drug makers won’t dent their revenue. It will make your medications more expensive.

The $67 billion tax on health insurers won’t hurt insurance companies. It will raise your premiums. So said the director of the Congressional Budget Office: “That piece of the legislation would raise insurance premiums by roughly the amount of the money collected.”

Look closely at the impact of a tax on medical device companies. There are more than 80,000 medical devices in the United States, everything from artificial heart valves, pacemakers and NICU incubators to thermometers and toothbrushes.

The $40 billion tax on device makers would raise the price for thousands of products. Consumers would pay more directly through higher insurance premiums or lost wages when an employer has to pay. Thomas Barthold, chief of staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation, said this past week: “We have analyzed this as largely falling on the consumer.”

Tall Tale Of The Day: The First Lady’s Weird Olympic Memory

From Michelle Obama’s failed pitch to the International Olympic Committee:

“Some of my best memories are sitting on my dad’s lap, cheering on Olga and Nadia, Carl Lewis, and others for their brilliance and perfection.”

Um. Ew. Oof.

Mrs. Obama was 20 years old when Lewis first competed in the Olympics in 1984.

Senior White House adviser and Chicago slumlord overseer Valerie Jarrett promised earlier this week that “there wouldn’t be a dry eye in the room” after FLOTUS spoke.
She probably wasn’t expecting tears of…laughter.

Mrs. O is looking more and more like Mrs. Clinton every day.
