THANK YOU Drug Distributors, Dealers & Users

The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office recently received in a fleet of brand new Chargers, (Black & Whites) ALL paid for by Drug Distributors, Dealers and Users.

So we thank those fools for relieving the taxpayers pockets this year once again and the Sheriff's Office wanted to make damn sure ALL of you knew how they were paid for by advertising it right on the rear end of each vehicle.

Great Work Again Sheriff Lewis!

Today's Meeting With Louise Smith

I enjoyed a very pleasant meeting with Louise Smith and Brenda Colegrove today. It was cordial and productive.

Louise agreed that she shouldn't have called me out by name in the Monday night Meeting but IMHO that was no big deal.

We have agreed to continue allowing everyone to use flash photography as long as no one takes it to a point where they are distracting the Council.

She felt my words were a bit strong in my e-mail message, (threatening a lawsuit) in which I again stated I never said I was going to sue anyone. She pulled out the e-mail and read it again and it clearly said I would ask a Judge to render a decision.

Louise and I have agreed to disagree on different issues and we have always remained polite to each other over the years.

I also expressed verbally to Louise and Brenda that my concern was not just for myself, it was for ALL citizens entering the room wishing to take pictures of someone receiving a proclamation from a family member and so forth.

So there you have it. A peaceful and fair decision was made. We're ALL moving in the right direction.

State troopers were called to the Eagles Nest Day Care near Milton yesterday for the violation of a custody order.

The child was unharmed and Stringfellow is facing extradition back to Delaware for interference with custody of a child across state lines. Once back in Delaware he will be brought before family court for violating the court order.

The 3 year-old girl was reunited with her mother.

A Modern Classic

You have to be old enough to remember Abbott and Costello, and too old to REALLY understand computers, to fully appreciate this. For those of us who sometimes get flustered by our computers, please read on...

If Bud Abbott and Lou Costello were alive today, their infamous sketch, 'Who's on First?' might have turned out something like this:

COSTELLO CALLS TO BUY A COMPUTER FROM ABBOTT
ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?

COSTELLO: Thanks I'm setting up an office in my den and I'm thinking about buying a computer.

ABBOTT: Mac?

COSTELLO: No, the name's Lou.

ABBOTT: Your computer?

COSTELLO: I don't own a computer. I want to buy one.

ABBOTT: Mac?

COSTELLO: I told you, my name's Lou.

ABBOTT: What about Windows?

COSTELLO: Why? Will it get stuffy in here?

ABBOTT: Do you want a computer with Windows?

COSTELLO: I don't know. What will I see when I look at the windows?

ABBOTT: Wallpaper.

COSTELLO: Never mind the windows. I need a computer and software.

ABBOTT: Software for Windows?

COSTELLO: No. On the computer! I need something I can use to write proposals, track expenses and run my business. What do you have?

ABBOTT: Office.

ABBOTT: I just did.

COSTELLO: You just did what?

ABBOTT: Recommend something.

COSTELLO: You recommended something?

ABBOTT: Yes.

COSTELLO: For my office?

ABBOTT: Yes.

COSTELLO: OK, what did you recommend for my office?

ABBOTT: Office.

COSTELLO: Yes, for my office!

ABBOTT: I recommend Office with Windows.

COSTELLO: I already have an office with windows! OK, let's just say I'm sitting at my computer and I want to type a proposal. What do I need?

ABBOTT: Word.

COSTELLO: What word?

ABBOTT: Word in Office.

COSTELLO: The only word in office is office.

ABBOTT: The Word in Office for Windows.

COSTELLO: Which word in office for windows?

ABBOTT: The Word you get when you click the blue 'W'.

COSTELLO: I'm going to click your blue 'w' if you don't start with some straight answers. What about financial bookkeeping? You have anything I can track my money with?

ABBOTT: Money.

COSTELLO: That's right. What do you have?

ABBOTT: Money.

COSTELLO: I need money to track my money?

COSTELLO: Isn't it illegal to copy money?

ABBOTT: Microsoft gave us a license to copy Money.

COSTELLO: They can give you a license to copy money?

ABBOTT: Why not? THEY OWN IT!

(A few days later)

ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?

Suspect(s): Samuel J. Hackett, 49, of West 23rd Street in Wilmington, Delaware

Resume: Yesterday afternoon, Troopers were called to Delaware Valley Physiatry for the report of a computer theft.

This investigation revealed Mr. Samuel J. Hackett responded to the doctor’s office at about 12:30 p.m. and was seen by the attending physician. After his appointment was over, Mr. Samuel allegedly left the office, with a lap top belonging to the practice in hand.

When the staff learned of the missing computer, they called the State Police.

Investigators soon learned that the lap top in question was at Hackett’s home, in his basement. Troopers responded to his home and recovered the stolen computer.

DELAWARE: Proposal Would Pull Legal Ads From Newspapers

DOVER — A Delaware lawmaker says ending the state's practice of running legal ads in newspapers' classified sections would save millions of dollars.

Millsboro Democratic Rep. John Atkins is proposing moving the ads to the Internet. He says it would save the state $9 million.

Opponents say the change would cut off access to public information for people and businesses without Internet access.

Controller General Russell Larson says the $9 million figure represents Delaware Financial Management System expenditures that carried an advertising accounting code, which could include advertising other than traditional public notices.

The bill would not prohibit state agencies from running newspaper ads, but Atkins says he sees agencies running shorter versions directing readers to a Web site.

UPDATE On Courtesy Chevrolet

OK, while I was being more trusting yesterday than I should have been, let's get you the details of what is really going on at Courtesy Chevrolet.

First of all, I did call the owner yesterday and he wasn't in either Dealership. Nevertheless, I got my confirmation and answers by my line of questions and I was very frank, (politely) with the people there letting them know this was Joe Albero from Salisbury News.

I explained how I had just confirmed that Courtesy Chevrolet was losing their franchise with GM and they would no longer be an authorized GM Dealer to sell New Cars or Trucks.

They agreed and stated they would instead be selling Used Cars, just as my source informed me. Bottom line is, they will be selling Used Cars and New Cars. However, they will be using their Midway Chevrolet Dealership to purchase the vehicles and then have to transport them to Salisbury.

So technically I was right, they're losing their Authorized GM New Car Sales Dealership. Mr. Nordstrom, you owe me an apology.

As for Barrett Chevrolet, additional sources continue to tell me they too will be losing their Franchise and their partial letter sent yesterday indicates they are afraid to show the whole truth. That's cool though, we have time to wait and see what happens.

In the mean time, Mr. Nordstrom, you come off as a typical Used Car Salesman who enjoys twisting the truth. Confirmed by your own Staff!

A Letter From One 'Angry Woman'

'Are we fighting a war on terror or aren't we? Was it or was it not started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores on September 11, 2001?

Were people from all over the world, mostly Americans, not brutally murdered that day, in downtown Manhattan , across the Potomac from our nation's capitol and in a field in Pennsylvania?

Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing death that day, or didn't they?

And I'm supposed to care that a copy of the Koran was 'desecrated' when an overworked American soldier kicked it or got it wet?...Well, I don't. I don't care at all.

I'll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and repents for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11.

I'll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere possession of which is a crime in Saudi Arabia

I'll care when these thugs tell the world they are sorry for chopping off Nick Berg's head while Berg screamed through his gurgling slashed throat.

I'll care when the cowardly so-called 'insurgents' in Iraq come out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion by hiding in mosques.

I'll care when the mindless zealots who blow themselves up in search of nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide .

I'll care when the American media stops pretending that their First Amendment liberties are somehow derived from international law instead of the United States Constitution's Bill of Rights.

In the meantime, when I hear a story about a brave marine roughing up an Iraqi terrorist to obtain information, know this: I don't care.

When I see a fuzzy photo of a pile of naked Iraqi prisoners who have been humiliated in what amounts to a college-hazing incident, rest assured: I don't care.

When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when he is told not to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take it to the bank: I don't care.

When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Ko ran and a prayer mat, and fed 'special' food that is paid for by my tax dollars, is complaining that his holy book is being 'mishandled,' you can absolutely believe in your heart of hearts: I don't care.

And oh, by the way, I've noticed that sometimes it's spelled 'Koran' and other times 'Quran.' Well, Jimmy Crack Corn and-you guessed it-I don't care!!

The Best Sign Improvement On The Eastern Shore

For YEARS people were placing their own signs on the side of the Bypass to let people know they needed to take the Rt. 13 north exit to get back to Philly, NY & NJ. Not having this sign up was probably the dumbest move I had ever seen in my life and watching the SHA take down the temporary signs just pissed me off, quite frankly.

Why the State would want anyone driving 150 miles out of their way by missing this exit was beyond me but fortunately someone pulled someone else's head out of some one's butt and provided this much needed sign.

For me personally, ANYTHING to get the PA drivers OUT of this state as quickly as humanly possible is a great move.

Carrier Landing

Cockpit Video of Landing on an Aircraft Carrier Here's video footage of an A-6 approaching an aircraft carrier and landing.

It was taken from the cockpit by the copilot.

The conditions are ideal......calm sea, daylight and a stable aircraft.

This for all of us who have not had the privilege ------Now you have !!

With the volume up, you can even hear the power changes necessary to maintain precision glide slope and prepare for bolter; (a.k.a. abort the landing) in the event the arrest wire is missed.

Feels like you are in the aircraft.

Imagine what this would be like at night in IMC (instrument meteorological conditions - a.k.a.... pea soup)

This is a very neat video.

If you look very carefully, shortly before the plane touches down you can see the 'meatball' to the left; the orange light between the row of green lights that tells the pilot he's on heading and on glide slope.

Imagine landing on a moving postage stamp!

Crazy Glue It!

When the City removed the old gasoline tank from the old Fire Station 16, someone allegedly damaged the storm pipe. In order to repair/patch it, they sealed the gap with some sort of quick drying cement. Certainly not something I would accept being done on my property as IMHO it's another fix in the making some time soon. Wouldn't you agree by the look of the gap?

Indian River Inlet Bridge Summer Construction Announced

Minimal road impacts to motorists, pedestrians, cyclists

Indian River
-- The Department of Transportation announces that Skanska USA Civil Southeast Inc. (Skanska) is completing a successful test pile program that began in November 2008, and will soon be putting in place pylon foundations that will be the first permanent infrastructure for the new bridge.

Data received from the test pile program indicates that the number of piles required and the required lengths are adequate to support the structure throughout its design life of 100 years.

Skanska will continue to drive piles on the north side and south side of the inlet through mid-summer as the two construction teams begin their friendly competition to construct the pylon structures and eventually bridge decking over the inlet.

Pylons Will Support New Bridge Deck
The next phase of construction involves the installation of the pylon foundations. This involves utilizing the 291 pre-stressed concrete piles that are continually being delivered to the site. The pylon foundation work involves using a large crane and hydraulic hammer to pound concrete piles down through three levels of soil (sand on top, clay in the middle and a very dense sand).

Construction anticipated for the next 30-45 days will consist of erecting pylon forms, building pylon foundations for the pylon towers and installing reinforcing steel. Notably, approximately 1000 cubic yards of concrete will go into each pylon foundation. There is 35,000 cubic yards of concrete on the project, which is enough to fill a football field 21 feet deep.

Additional temporary piles will be installed onsite as part of the system that will be constructed to support portions of the bridge over land until the cable stay supports are installed. This is known as falsework, as it will not become part of the final bridge structure. Construction of the "falsework" structure will begin within the next two weeks.

Design 70 Percent Complete
Design of the structure is continuing and is approximately 70 percent complete. The benefit of the design-build contract process is being able to move forward with some initial construction before the final design is completed. Once the design is completed, construction will accelerate.

Some of Skanska's upcoming work will require minimal lane and shoulder closures on Route 1 over the existing bridge during the summer months. DelDOT does not anticipate any traffic backups associated with this lane/shoulder restriction.

In addition, materials are being delivered to the site via Routes 26 and 9, but no delays have been reported or are expected due to this activity.

There may be minimal, short-duration impacts on Turn Point Road, which runs on the south side of the inlet back to South Shore Marina, which will involve flagging or one-way traffic during the delivery of materials.

The new bridge will be open to traffic by summer 2011. The current bridge will remain open while the new bridge is being built.

Motorists are always encouraged to visit the project Web site, www.irib.deldot.gov, to receive timely and accurate traffic updates, view traffic cameras or obtain general project information.

DelDOT cautions motorists who travel in and around the existing Indian River Inlet Bridge to lower their speed to 35 mph through the construction work zone. As activity around the bridge increases, motorists should stay focused on the road and not become distracted by the construction activity.
