The Daily Times Is Starting To Make Me Sick!

OK Folks, one thing you may not be aware of is how Newspapers and Magazines sell ad space. It's done by page views. The Daily Times has titles to articles up of interest and when you click on it you'd THINK you were going to that particular article.

Salisbury News is quite a bit different as you see the entire article on the main page and then we offer you TWO days worth of articles on one main page. OK, so what, right?

Well, I just went to look at this article on the Daily Times. When I got to the bottom of the article I realized, wait a minute, there's ANOTHER page. For the heck of it I clicked on that page and quite frankly that was a very short page, so I thought that was it, that's the end of the article. But then I saw Page 3 at the bottom and again for the heck of it I clicked on it only to find one more sentence to close the deal. Now, just reading that article cost me 4 pages of time and different advertising along the way. Was the article worth it, absolutely not. Was the learning process worth it, absolutely!

Considering we have more page views in one day than the Daily Times, yet we have two days worth of articles on one main page, that says a whole lot right there. When you advertise with Salisbury News you'll not only get more readership on line, your ad will basically run for TWO DAYS! The sad part is, they're skimping and IMHO screwing their advertisers into believing they have more traffic than they actually do. Salisbury News doesn't play that game. Why in the heck would we make our visitors click FOUR TIMES to read one article?

They're desperate people, believe me. If you don't fully understand what I'm telling you, click on the link above and then scroll to the bottom of the article. When you think you're done, look at the bottom of the page and then click on page two and then page three. It's ONE article.

It's Snowing In Delmar

I just looked out the window and noticed it has started to snow. It's light, mind you, but as the evening moves in I'd say it's going to get colder so let's be careful out there.

D.S.P. UPDATE: Fatal Crash On South Union Church

Sunday, February 22, 2009- State Police Probe Fatal Crash on South Union Church

Sussex County- Detectives have completed their initial investigation into this crash.

A 2007 Chevrolet Silverado (operated by Carlos R. Garcia-Ortiz, 24, of Ellendale), was traveling northbound on South Union Church Road, south of SR16, Ellendale Greenwood Highway, when the operator lost control and went off of the right side of the roadway and struck a row of trees. The vehicle veered back onto the roadway and began to rotate at which time the operator was ejected. The truck went back off of the right side of the road and ended up in a ditch adjacent to the roadway.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the passenger, who was still in the truck, dead at the scene. She was identified as Laura E. Rosario, 40 of Ellendale.

Drug impairment is believed to be a factor in this crash on the part of Mr. Garcia-Ortiz. He was transported from the scene to Milford Memorial Hospital. He is expected to remain in hospital care for several days, and upon his release, he will face the following charges: Vehicular Homicide 2nd, DUI, No Valid License, and No Valid Insurance.

The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours.

A Message From Councilwoman Debbie Campbell

"Joe –

I went to pick up dinner for my family at Vinny’s last night. Vinny’s (LaRoma) has always been a favorite of ours. I’m happy to say that Vinny’s was packed with diners and people picking up orders last night. It is a locally owned and operated restaurant and part of the fabric of the community for those who are not familiar with this great eatery.

While I was there, Vinny, the owner, mentioned that he has been taking some heat from SbyNews readers because supporters of my opponent Gary Comegys are planning an election night event there.

I would like to say this to your readers: Vinny’s LaRoma is a business. I am glad that his business will benefit from booking a reservation, especially in these tough economic times. My only regret is that I didn’t think to book Vinny’s for election night first. If I had Comegys supporters would likely be giving him a hard time for that. Let’s raise the bar and celebrate that a local business is getting some extra money through the door. No need for hard feelings over this. If you love Vinny’s food continue to enjoy it no matter who you support,

Regards.

Debbie Campbell"

Well, ...What the heck did you expect to see??!! ...Hope the rest of your day goes better!

PS - ...I looked at all the photos too.

Can Gary Comegys Really Be Trusted On His Word?

At the Urban Salisbury Forum last week, City Councilman and Mayoral Candidate Gary Comegys TWICE stated that the trash and landscaping on the Downtown Plaza was his biggest concern.

OK Gary, since pictures don't lie and are worth a thousand words, what say you now. These recent photo clearly show you can talk the talk but you can't walk the walk. If "I" had made that statement, trust me, I would have personally made it a point to drive down that Plaza each and every day and pick up whatever trash I saw floating around.

I would have also called the Mayor's Office and told that woman she had better get Public Works off their butts, (I'm being nice) and clean that darned Plaza up! I keep saying it time and time again Folks, their questions are pampered at these Forums and even with that being said, the Candidates aren't answering them, at least with honesty anyway.

Again I'll ask, "what are YOUR plans for the old Fire Station 16?" Don't ask Gary Comegys, because he'll just lie anyway and tell you what you want to hear. Hence the photos above.

Things That Make You Go, Hmmmmmm?

Do you remember that retaining wall on Isabella street that the Home Owner took down and the Mayor and Gary Comegys convinced the majority of the Council to replace at the City Taxpayers expense? Is it any wonder why you'd see these Campaign Signs shoving it in the taxpayers face, just above the remaining bricks that used to be there as a retaining wall? A Vote For Me is a gift of a free retaining wall. Enough said! And we thought Somerset County was bad.

Did YOU Know This?

I had to go into the kitchen and check this out for myself. Whoever looks at the end of your aluminum foil box? You know when you try to pull some foil out and the roll comes out of the box. Then you have to put the roll back in the box and start over. The darn roll always comes out at the wrong time.

Well, I would like to share this with you. Yesterday I went to throw out an empty Reynolds foil box and for some reason I turned it and looked at the end of the box. And written on the end it said, Press here to lock end. Right there on the end of the box is a tab to lock the roll in place. How long has this little locking tab been there? I then looked at a generic brand of aluminum foil and it had one, too. I then looked at a box of Saran wrap and it had one too! I can't count the number of times the Saran wrap roll has jumped out when I was trying to cover something up.

I'm sharing this with my friends. I hope I'm not the only person that didn't know about this. Go check now yourself!

Three Eskimos

Three Eskimos

There were three Eskimos in Alaska, and one time while they were at their local bar, they got to talking about how cold it was outside, and how cold their igloos were. They could agree on everything but whose igloo was the coldest, so they decided to determine who indeed had the coldest igloo.

They went to the first Eskimo's igloo, where he said "Watch this!" and poured a cup of water into the air. Well, the water froze in mid-air and fell onto the floor solid. "Not bad", said the other Eskimos, but each maintained their igloo was colder still.

So they went to the second Eskimo's igloo, and he said "Watch this!" and took a big breath and exhaled, whereupon his breath froze into a big lump and fell to the floor. "Wow, that's colder than mine!" said the first Eskimo.

But the third Eskimo exclaimed his was colder still. So they ended up at the third Eskimo's igloo. He said "Watch this!" and went into the bedroom, threw back the thick furs, and retrieved one of several small balls of ice there. He took it, put it in a spoon, and held a match under it.

When it heated up enough, it went "FFFAAAARRRRTTT".

Homeless In Somerset County

The cold rain falls upon me as I’m laying here in this field under a tree the only shelter I have found since been here. I shiver a tad and wonder how my life has turned out to be this way. I spend my days wandering up and down this stretch of road in search of a bite to eat. I greet the cars as they pass by and even occasionally chase one or two. Some people I guess are amazed that I can still run given I’m missing a leg. Occasionally the people in the white truck stop by to chase me. I know they want to hurt me so I run far away from them.

Do they really think I would come to them when they are yelling and chasing me with some type of gun?

I’m not here to hurt or bother anyone, I just want to live free and enjoy my days doing what I love. Some people must care about me because they bring me food and treats and try talking nice to me, but still I’m afraid so I run away. I wonder if there is any chance that someone that would care for me and love me could rescue me? I don’t want to go with the people in the white truck because I know they will kill me. Please people of Somerset County please don’t allow this to happen to me.

Sincerely,

Lucky? A.K.A

Dear Editor:

So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one, suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of entry.

Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like Mr. Lujan why today's American is not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New York and be documented . Some would even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary rule in their new American households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new home.

They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their children a new life and did everything in their power to help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.

Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. My father fought along side men whose parents had come straight over from Germany , Italy , France , and Japan . None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan . They were defending the United States of America as one people.

When we liberated France , no one in those villages were looking for the French-American or the German- American or the Irish-American. The people of France saw only Americans. And we carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country's flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting pot into one red, white and blue bowl.

And here we are in 2008 with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and privileges, only they want to achieve it by playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their mother country. I'm sorry, that's not what being an American is all about. I believe that the immigrants who landed on Ellis Island in the early 1900's deserve better than that for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future generations to create a land that has become a beacon for those legally searching for a better life I think they would be appalled that they are being used as an example by those waving foreign country flags.

And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty , it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on the immigration bill. I wouldn't start talking about dismantling the United States just yet.

Meet Your New Multi Million Dollar Monster Fire Truck

Dual rear axle's!

My God, this thing is HUGE!
I'm not exactly sure what Gary Comegys, Chief See & Deputy Chief Gordy were thinking when the ordered such a beast but it begs to question, why?
Seeing this vehicle for the first time reminds me of several meeting in which these very same people were selling the Council on why they also needed a $840,000.00 Fire Boat. It just makes no sense.
Now I'm absolutely sure there will be some who come to this Post and defend why Salisbury needs it but think about it Folks. Anything above three stories requires a sprinkler system. As rare as it would ever be that they need to take this monster out, a truck for about a million dollars less would have done just fine too.
Oh, that's right, they save lives. No they don't! It was pointed out more than a year ago, Firemen Do Not Save Lives. Police Officers and first responders do. YOU SAVE PROPERTY! You see Folks, it's all about the Insurance Companies. Oh, that's right, isn't Mayor Tilghman's Husband in the Insurance Business? Oh, that's right, isn't out Mayor the President of LEGIT, a municipal government insurance group!
You see, you encourage the absolute best at the taxpayers expense and your Insurance rates go up anyway. Maybe not as fast as they might without the very best equipment but this isn't Patomac, Maryland either. Oh, I forgot, we have better equipment and buildings than Patomac, just not the tax revenue, sorry.
There's always a catch behind everything they do. Back to the Fire Boat. Just how many riverfront homes are there on the Wicomico River in City Limits? Remember now, I want to hear how many homes there are that absolutely will not allow the Fire Department to get to their property? There aren't any! So again, spend $840,000.00 on a Fire Boat that is completely unnecessary. Heck, drop the price in half and it's still not worth it. Drop it 90% and it's STILL NOT worth it!
These "Boys and their Toys" are not only out of control, they have no plans on stopping. If it weren't for Campbell and Cohen, you'd be looking at engineering plans for a new Station 2 in the next few months. Oh, that's right, the guy who refused to attend the Meet & Greet at the Fire Department last week, (Gary Comegys) did stand his ground for those members at Station 2 by being the single person who voted FOR a brand New Fire Station.
So what will he do if he becomes Mayor? Spend, Spend, Spend! New Fire Stations! New Fire Boats! New Marina Upgrades! Multi million dollars buildings at the Zoo! No one is asking Comegys or any other Candidate any real questions at these Forums. They're pampered to keep you away from challenging the real Hot Topics in Salisbury.
Take the Urban Salisbury Forum at the Ramada Inn the other night. ALL those questions concerning the Downtown area and actually they were ALL repetitive questions on the same exact topic really. Nevertheless, I stood there for 15 minutes waiting to ask my question and they chose not to allow me to ask one and ended the meeting. They claim it was because WICO was going off the air. SO WHAT? That doesn't mean those of us still standing in line to ask a question shouldn't be heard. I didn't care of my question was on WICO. I simply wanted to ask one question and after the Forum I handed my question to the gentleman in charge and he said, "WOW, that was the best question of the evening."
My question was, what are YOUR intentions with the Old Fire Station 16 Downtown?
Of course they knew I'd have a darned good question and they were smart to avoid me. I then said, so why can't we all stick around and ask more questions then? The event was over. So THINK hard Ladies & Gentlemen. If you have a HOT TOPIC QUESTION you'd like to ask, put it up here and let us know. Then you can see how they PAMPER certain Candidates with cushy questions and keep you off of the REAL issues in Salisbury.
As for the Fire Truck above. Enjoy it in good health Firefighters. It's here, it's expensive and it's the very best money can buy. Please don't take it out to car accidents like you did with the other Ladder Truck. I personally hope you never have to use it but when and if you do, be safe.
