Gonzales: O’Malley Is Still Not Cool

MDPT - Not only does Governor Martin O'Malley (D) remain close to Glendening Territory in regards to his job approval rating, he actually dropped two points in a new poll from Gonzales Research and Marketing.

The first tip comes from The Baltimore Sun Blog: The Session.

The survey was conducted from February 23 to March 1 polling just above 800 registered voters by telephone with a 3.5 percent margin of error. The majority of those polled are from the Washington and Baltimore burbs.

O'Malley's job approval of 37 percent is the lowest since being elected and definitely from it's high of this time last year at 52 percent. But don't worry, President Bush still ranks lower than O'Malley in this poll.

You've Gotta Love What The Daily Times Is On!

First of all, October 26th is NOT on a Friday, it's a Sunday. I did some investigative reporting on that fact, LOL.

Secondly, isn't this an Irish St. Patrick's Day Contest? Therefore, what the heck are they doing allowing it to extend into October for? And they complain about my not proof reading my material enough!

Have they already tapped the Green Beer Keg, or what?

Harris Congratulates John McCain For Winning The Republican Nomination

Annapolis - State Senator Andy Harris, the Republican nominee in Maryland's first congressional district, congratulated John McCain for winning the Republican nomination for President of the United States.

Andy Harris released the following statement:

"I congratulate John McCain on winning the Republican nomination for President of the United States. Senator McCain's compelling life story of courageous service to our nation makes him a genuine American hero. John McCain is an experienced leader with bold solutions to the most pressing issues facing our nation today. I am proud to be a member of John McCain's team in Maryland.

"John McCain offers voters a clear alternative to Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama's big government tax-and-spend liberal philosophy. Senator McCain's belief in lowering taxes and eliminating wasteful government spending to stimulate our ailing economy stands in stark contrast to the Democrats' desire to raise taxes and increase government spending which will only push our nation into a recession.

"Over the next eight months, I will be campaigning throughout the first district as a member of John McCain's ticket. I look forward to serving with him in Washington when I am a member of Congress, and John McCain is the President of the United States."

Ron Alessi & The Salisbury Zoo Are At It AGAIN!

Let me explain what this ad DOESN'T exactly say. The City of Salisbury is looking to HIRE a telemarketing company to go out and call everyone and their brother to raise funds for the Zoo. I have been in several of these meetings where they discussed this possibility and as I recall, this Firm would allegedly take at least 35%, (if not more) of ALL of the money they raise.

IMO, it's a SCAM! Granted, it's done quite often. Many of the calls you get asking to support your local FOP events are from an outside marketing company. A very strong percent of what is raised goes to this marketing company and NOT to the Police. I'm NOT saying ALL of them do this.

So look at it like this. Let's say this company raises $2,000,000.00 for the Zoo. They keep, $700,000.00 of it. Is that how you want YOUR donations spent? Why isn't the Zoo Commission raising this money?

I should add, the Salisbury Zoo WILL more than likely lose their accreditation with the AZA. The Zoo has survived for 50+ years without this building. The ONLY reason they're building it is because the AZA is demanding it to be built. However, since they have NOT hired a Zoo Director, the AZA will take away their accreditation and the $2,000,000.00 building won't be necessary. Barrie Tilghman is trying to spend money immediately, all of which is not necessary. Demand that Wicomico County NOT give them the $300,000.00 for their share of the building UNLESS they regain their accreditation with the AZA. The County should also have ONE Council Member on the Zoo Commission as part of the terms as well.

You WON'T read about this in The Daily Times!

Military Deterioration

I sat, as did millions of other Americans, and watched as our government underwent a peaceful transition of power seven years ago.

At first, I felt a swell of pride and patriotism as I watched George W. Bush take his oath of office.

However, all that pride quickly vanished as I later watched William Jefferson Clinton board Air Force One for the last time. I saw 21 Marines, in full dress uniform with rifles, fire a 21-gun salute to the outgoing President. It was then that I realized how far America's military had deteriorated under Clinton.

Every one of them missed.

The Daily Times Has Lost Its Mind

Just look at the Editorial Section of today's paper. Look, we ALL know Norm is a great guy. So why would you give him the political kiss of death by showing your support towards him?

Then there's the Grapevine comment about someone anonymous stating they're going to vote as a democrat for the first time in 60 years in the Harris/Kratovil race for Congress?

Moving on, Michael Day's Wife writes a letter to the editor that's just a charmer! Of course these two, (the Day's) have been kissing the Mayor's a$$ for umpteen years, so why would anyone expect anything short of communism from these two? That's right, how dare Jordan try to recall their buddy the Mayor? OMG, he drinks too!

I'm thinking, he's 21 years old, he's young only once in his life and let me guess, the Mayor and the Day's want to ban alcohol to everyone until they reach the Mayor's age so they can arrive to functions already intoxicated and make a fool of himself, even on video?

The Daily Times is without a question the Tilghman Times and Greg Bassett should be fired. That's right, the guy is personally and emotionally unstable because every one of the people he and his Wife support are crumbling and they have turned that paper into nothing short of a joke.

Has anyone ever found out the potential fraud in the Park and Flea scam Michael Day is running? That's right, Chief Webster refuses to investigate things like Mike Lewis does. Let's see, Ray Lewis allegedly steals from the County and Sheriff Lewis is right on it. Michael Day clearly and publicly stated numbers that would clearly show they should have allegedly taken in MUCH more money, yet Webster does nothing about it?

It's The Good Old Boy System Barrie Tilghman swore she was getting rid of, right?

I forgot the Alessi Grapevine comment. Who would give a sh!t about Ron Alessi, other than his kids and his Wife. My guess, Ron wrote that himself, just as so many Zoo Staff always did once they were in the news regularly in the past.

One Year Ago Today

The conversation the way I perceived it.

Mike: Top O' The Mornin To Ya Jim.

Jim: Uh, Mike, today is March 5th. St. Patrick's Day is the 17th. The only thing you have right is the green. Oh, and it's a Leprechaun, not a Fairy.

Call 410-749-7171 Ext. 3

The Daily Times has a prerecorded message stating, Due to an unforeseen production problem your paper will be 3 to 4 hours late.

In other words, that $6.500,000.00 Press is a piece of sh!t and you were blowing smoke up everyone's skirt, (I'm being nice).

Nothing has changed Ladies & Gentlemen. You can go out and get plastic surgery to change your face but if you're a b!tch inside, you're still a b!tch when you come out. New location, new press, same old b!tch! The facelift didn't work!

Let's Discuss Comments

I must admit to all of you that this Blog is more time consuming than you think. I'm not complaining. I'm simply stating that I have never been busier and now I'm retired. Or, I thought I was.

Because of a select hand full of people, (less than 5) I have had to moderate comments because if they had their way they would simply bash my every word and throw curse words and or call my Wife all sorts of names and quite frankly Ladies & Gentlemen, they refuse to stop.

I'm not kidding you when I say there are days when I'm rejecting over a hundred messages because of their curse words, personal attacks and or flat out lies about people in the articles I've produced just to discredit the information.

That being said I want everyone well aware that when I put up articles and you refuse to put your name to the comment and you go on the attack, there's a very good chance I'm going to reject it. Look, I'm simply being honest. I personally don't think it's fair that I spend all this time and do all this work getting the information, simply to have someone come on here and bash it for personal reasons.

Therefore I want it made very clear that I do in fact moderate and delete quite a few comments, especially recently. To those Kratovil Fans out there who think this is going to be your place to bash Andy Harris with false information, I'm checking out your comments first and if it's not true, see ya! If it is true, I will post it. Fair is fair.

All that being said, it's not only extremely time consuming to write this Blog. Imagine the time it takes to moderate these comments. There are at least 300 comments a day brought to me. They must be read and then accepted or rejected. Again, I'm not complaining because I do get a laugh/kick out of many of the Anti Albero comments and most recently the stupid ones from JR!

If you want to waste your time creating non factual comments or comments that defame people, go for it. In the mean time, start acting like responsible people and put your name to your comment. I can understand why many do not but if you think you can bash people without a name behind it, there's a good chance I'm not going to accept it.

Happy Hour Review, Monkey Barrel

Awhile back we had some restaurant reviews and they went to the wayside because Joe could only do so much. One of the suggestions on a posted reply was “happy hours”. So here it is, SbyNews.com Happy Hour Review. If any of you have any requests about a happy hour or restaurants for regular menu fare shoot me an e-mail. I’ll try to get out to as many I can notwithstanding my stomach’s capacity which is quite large for my runners frame. I’ll get one or so a week. Rankings will be out of 5. Hope you enjoy and find things helpful.

Today’s review is The Monkey Barrel, yes The Barrel. Traditionally a night hangout for the college student, Barrel introduced food to the establishment late last year and thus have established a set happy hour (HH). Barrel Boasts a later HH than the rest of the bars; Monday - Thursday from 7-9pm, Friday 4-9pm, and Saturday from 7-9pm. This is great for those who get off work or class later or those wishing to continue their night. Traditionally HH is from 4-7 at most places. Barrel has two pool tables, a dance floor, and a projection TV in the back!Barrel is an open bar with plenty of seating at the bar, in booths, or at tables. You will never be crowded at HH here and you can find your own place to socialize with your friends or do some work. The drink specials are $1.50 domestic drafts and rail drinks. Food specials are half price appetizers in which the regular prices are $4-7 dollars each. Barrel also has sandwiches from 5-7 dollars, both hot and cold. This is affordable!

My take: Barrel’s HH is on point. You get what you pay for here guys. Loaded fries are giant baskets of cheese and bacon which can feed 2-3 people easily and you get 12 wings with every order and they are both great. Try the Barrel flavored wings, not too spicy but still has a pleasant kick to them. Other apps include onion rings, mozzarella sticks, giant chicken tenders, and loaded nacho’s and all cater to my snacking needs. Compared with other main stream chains you get a lot more for what you pay for with the same quality. Barrel is not loud like some other HHS and you can carry on a conversation or hear the game on the TV. The crowd is biggest on Fridays and Barrel attracts both students, locals, and even some professors waiting for a break from the daily grind.

Final Score: 4.25 monkeys out of 5!

Jordan Reisman Has Participated More Than Some Are Willing To Admit

The young man from SU and been subjected to numerous attacks by people stating he doesn't really care about the community and he's asking to recall Mayor Tilghman, Louise Smith, Gary Comegys and most recently Shanie Shield. Jordan signed the petition drive against the 14% Tax Increase by the Mayor & Council. This guys is for real Folks.

Wicomico Wins A Close One

Wicomico High School,

North Caroline’s Shawn Blackwell opened up the game with a two piece and a biscuit followed by an Indian 3 from Brennan Gross to pop open a fast paced first quarter in the 2A State Quarterfinal Tuesday night. Wi-Hi took a 7-3 lead at the 6:11 mark. Both teams were tenacious on the offensive glass and in having their hands in all the passing lanes causing broken plays, turnovers, and riffs of chasing down the loose ball. Midway through the first Gross had a nice scoop to the hoop to help extend Wi-Hi’s lead but North Caroline Fought back to tie the game at 16 with a three from North Caroline’s Vernon Wilson. The tie was short lived after DeAngelo Gie came right back with a three of his own and the three point lead was preserved by Gavin Dennis and Gie blocking a last second shot ending with a 19-16 Indian lead.

The second quarter started sloppy with turnovers and rimmed out but after a flurry of made shots the game was tied at 23 by a Denis Herbert duce. Wilson had a chance to take the lead for the Bulldogs but his strong put back got stuck in between the rim and backboard for a dead ball whistle and possession to the Indians. Wi-Hi looked to take over the game with a big lead but Herbert scored 5 points with a three at the end of the half to bring North Caroline to 34-30 Wi-Hi.. Both teams played like they wanted to survive.

DeAngelo Gie opened up the third frame with a powerful block and then followed up with a steal off of a Bulldog defensive rebound for 2 to extend the lead. Devon Gate and Gie gave the Indians a trey each to extend the lead to 11 points at the 5:11 mark. North Caroline once again came roaring back with 6 points from Vernon Wilson and three point goals from Terae Wanne and Herbert to get the deficit to 3 points. Gie once again came up big with a late score to put the tally in favor of the Indians 49-44.

Herbert scored early to bring the Bulldogs once again to three points. Both teams once again traded baskets but foul trouble caught up to North Caroline and Devon Gate made 5/6 free throws to extend the lead at 2:49 to 58-50 after North Caroline’s Terae Wanne fouled out. The Bulldogs were not to be put to the pound quite yet after Vernon Wilson came back with 2 point score and then on the subsequent Indian possession caused a 5 second call to bring the ball back. The momentum was short lived because Gavin Dennis blocked a shot on the Bulldog’s possession. Baskets by Karon Bell and Jermaine Ringold with Wi-Hi’s Gate missing the 1 and 1 brought North Caroline to being down 4 with 50 seconds remaining; 60 to 56. Once again Gie stepped up and led the Indians to hold on and win the game by a final score of 63-56.

Game notes

The Bulldogs never regained the lead after the first seconds of the game though they did tie it. Questionable calls by the referees at the end of the game added to the controversy. The referees called a charge on a Bulldog and on the inbounds play Wi-Hi had a player jump out of bounds to take a pass from the original inbounding player. No basket was scored on the previous play and the Bulldogs coach called out the refs by saying that inbounding player had to be still and could only pass to the floor.

The game, though close, had lots of loose balls and turnovers in spurts. Wicomico’s Coach Butch Waller said “It was an ugly game and that’s seems to be how we play. We had problems scoring inside.” North Caroline only 4 deep on the bench played like a top 2 seed tonight. Both teams played hard, aggressive, and was not afraid to abuse their bodies to try to secure the win. “North Caroline played lights out” Coach Waller said. “They hit every open shot and we were fortunate to hang on.” Congratulations to both teams who gave a great game and showed what it meant to play how your supposed to play.

Wicomico, the #1 seed, will be in action this Thursday against the winner of Rising Sun vs. Queen Anne at Wicomico High School. Good luck Indians and come out and support them!

The Honeymoon Is Over!

Moments ago I took that long walk down the driveway confident when I got to the mailbox that piece of sh!t newspaper would be there. After all, they're in a new building, they've had their trial runs and now that no one is holding Greg Bassett's hand, that G*& D@%$ newspaper wasn't there!

Rumor has it they have already been experiencing problems with this newly used press, so my guess is that not much has changed. Well at least it's a beautiful morning to take a walk. Time to pull out the piddle pads!

Can You Say, B U L L S H ! T?

The condos across the river have been struggling so badly, they've only sold three units, period! Are we truly supposed to believe, (even though the condos across the river sported the same sign) that 50% of their units are sold before their built? Show me to closing documents and I'll believe it. Till then, B U L L S H ! T!

Clinton Takes 3, McCain Clinches Nomination

Hillary Rodham Clinton won three victories in a night of revival that denied Barack Obama his opportunity to drive her from the Democratic Presidential Race. Clarity came only to the Republican side, where John McCain made the nomination his own. Damn if I wasn't hoping this BS would be over with. Now we get to have more. Wooho!

If Looks Could Kill

On Monday night, Debbie Campbell started asking Pam Oland some serious questions and as I sat within 10 feet from Pam, the looks she was giving John Pick was just unbelievable!

Now mind you, John Pick is HER BOSS, not the other way around. Any serious Supervisor would get one of those looks only once from an employee and if Pam Oland in fact had a job this morning, it clearly proves she and the Mayor are now out to get John Pick as their next target.

Perhaps John is sick and tired of covering up for them, I don't know? All I can tell you is, Pam was extremely rude and there's something going on. We're watching Pam!

Last Thursday, February 28, 2008 I broke THIS STORY as BREAKING NEWS. Yesterday I received a reply from Jim Finneran in Rick Pollitt's Office stating the following:

Joe:

We are looking into this. For now, I am excerpting some comments from a response we received from a consultant after forwarding your questions.

When I say “looking” I mean that acting PW Director John Redden is “on it” in concert with MDE.

“One comment that is specific is about the Salisbury Paleochannel – the answer to that one we know very well, the landfill is not near the Paleochannel; we had to check that out during the Phase II and III work that we did in the early 1990’s, and I can pull that information together early next week if you’d like. As for the other comments about illegal dumping, landfill fires, and springs at the ponds near the landfill, they are harder to evaluate of course. But we do know that there is a very long record of environmental monitoring around the landfill that has characterized the quality of groundwater and surface water, and that the data has been reviewed by MDE. The email from Alberobutzo@wmconnect.com seems to recount many of the issues and concerns that we were dealing with back in the early 19990’s, when MDE raised serious concerns about the operation of the landfill and when Wicomico County entered into a consent agreement with MDE to construct substantial environmental upgrades to the site; a lot of money was spent then to address MDE’s concerns . As the data shows, the efforts over the past 10 years or so have resulted in substantial improvements to the quality of the environment at the landfill site.

The issues raised by Alberobutzo@wmconnect.com are, of course, valid questions and concerns. I believe that the best way to address them is to first look at the environmental monitoring data for Mr. Shea and Mr. Pollitt and explain to them how the data shows that the landfill is being appropriately managed to protect the environment, and then develop an approach for discussing the results with others (including, if you would like, Alberobutzo@wmconnect.com).

I will send you a more detailed email on Monday that replies to both of the messages from Alberobutzo@wmconnect.com. I assume that you will pass this information on to the appropriate parties within the County, if needed.”

I am VERY pleased to see the County is taking this situation VERY seriously as there have been issues in the past but are obviously willing to face it head on, openly and honestly.

If you'll notice the photos in this Post as well as the following Post, you can see where things start and ultimately end. I can assure you, 99.9% of the County and City residents would have never believed this could have been possible. How do you take a Lake inside the Landfill and have it end up dumping into the Wicomico River?

I'll start with the very first photo. Notice the erosion on the side of that hill. Also notice a black pipe coming into that area where an obvious heavy flow of water races down the mountain in the Landfill, into that pipe and then into that Lake. I don't care if they have rubber liners under that mountain, the run off is making it into a Lake and then it is pumped out from the lowest level into a series of man made ponds. The first pond clearly shows the lime green color of the water. Now is that normal this time of year?

The water then flows out of the Landfill and underneath Brick Kiln Road and heads east. When you get down to the recycling center, the water is then piped underneath that property and then travels on the south side, (into the woods) along Brick Kiln Road. It travels about a half a mile until it then crosses underneath the road again to the north side of the road. They claim there's something called Owens Creek till it hits Mitchell Pond. Well, let me assure you of one thing, there's nothing natural about it.

There's such a flow from the Landfill Lift Station that each pond overflows and ultimately finds its way to Mitchell Pond. It then flows through a series of drain pipes that go straight down, creating a natural flow to the next pond. Mitchell Pond is actually a series of 4 ponds where it looks to end at Fitzwater Street, just across from the Wicomico River and the Ship Yard there. The third photo from the last in the next Post shows where the water from the last pond near Fitzwater flows down into yet another drain area because it is then rushed out to the Wicomico River where it ends INTO THE RIVER shown in the last photo.

Now I know Mr. Pollitt's Office will do a complete investigation and as I was traveling the pathway again today one of the Public Works guys stopped and seemed very upset and wanted to know what I was doing and who I was. I told him my name was Joe and I was with Salisbury News, even though it's plastered all over my truck. He was rude, he refused to answer any of my questions, even though I fully cooperated with him 100% and gave him every answer to every question he asked.

There's a serious problem with this water Ladies & Gentlemen. Any time you're taking nasty, stinky water from a Landfill and pumping it all the way to the Wicomico River, (as unbelievable as that may be) these photos, (and I have many more) prove this is the case, there's a problem. There's NO FILTRATION whatsoever.

I have a call into the MDE on this matter and they have yet to respond. I called them 6 days ago too. Hopefully they see this Post and choose to get back with me?

Again, I exposed this a week ago and have brought it to everyone's attention again today and NOTHING in The Daily Times. Oh, that's right, many of you pay for that rag. Help me out here, besides the Obituaries and Classified, what's that paper worth again?

IntoxicGate II

The pipe above in the last picture is believed to be the pipe that is the final destination into the Wicomico River all the way from the Wicomico County Landfill.
