If You're Still Awake

Take a walk outside and take a look at the moon. There's another huge circle around it once again so we just might see some snow after all? It worked the last time and it's a pretty cool sight to see with a full moon.

For Immediate Release

John S. Harris, 63, a long time resident of the Salisbury area announces his candidacy for City Council. As a businessman, he feels the City should be run like a business. He feels the Mayor and Council should be accountable to the stockholders of the City-the taxpayers. He believes in clear, open and honest government.

GOALS:

1. CRIME- Take back the streets of Salisbury by increasing the funding for the Police Department for whatever is necessary to do the job. If management is not up to the task, then find someone else who is.

2. BLIGHT- Attack blight wherever and whoever is feeding it in out City. Crime breeds blight. Blight breeds crime. Correct these and we can have affordable housing where our people will not be afraid to reside. Safer neighborhoods, affordable housing and lack of blight will help remove Salisbury from the list of 20 most dangerous cities.

3. JOBS- Create a business-friendly city for both small and large companies so that the young and old can become employed.

Mr. Harris is not a single issue candidate. He looks at the issues that effect the whole community, not single issues that effect a selected population. He also believes in the people of his community and is dedicated to listening to their views, concerns and ideas so that we can all make Salisbury a city it deserves to be.

Mayor Tilghman Plays DeFense

Although Barrie Tilghman sent out an e-mail assuring everyone that the security fence is being taken care of around the Old Mall, she's lied once again. Days have gone by after her reassurances and the fence still lies on the ground, unsecured.

It should also be noted that people are still driving all over the parking lot there, even though they've barricaded off the entrances, hence the photo just above.

Lost

Two guys, one old and one young, are pushing their carts around Home Depot when they collide.

The old guy says to the young guy, "Sorry about that. I'm looking for my wife, and I guess I wasn't paying attention to where I was going.

"The young guy says, "That's OK. It's a coincidence. I'm looking for my wife, too. I can't find her and I'm getting a little desperate."

The old guy says, "Well, maybe we can help each other. What does your wife look like?"

The young guy says, "Well, she is 24 yrs old, tall, with blonde hair, blue eyes, long legs, big boobs, and she's wearing tight white shorts, a halter top and no bra.

What does your wife look like?"

The old guy says, "Doesn't matter --- let's look for yours."

VALOR

Sheriffs Deputy, Cris Taylor, has opened a unique Cop Shop behind the Giant off Rt. 13 in the Goliath Shopping Center. The selection of items are very unique and extremely durable and long lasting. If you're a Cop, GO THERE! If you're not, go there anyway. Besides the fact that Cris is a great guy, give a local guy a chance. In the very least, shake his hand and thank him and his brothers for all they do for our communities.

Stop Grafiti At The Pumps

Between graffiti and self advertising for a business, this poor gas station is getting it coming and going. It doesn't look as if they're at all interested in cleaning it up either. Some of these stickers have been here quite a while and the City hasn't given them a 14 day order to have it removed?

Jimmy's Grill Just Won't Quit!

Day after day, this place just doesn't get it. Nor does the supposed Health Department in Wicomico County. You know what, that does it for me. I'm simply going to STOP eating out at restaurants in Salisbury any more because this was all I needed to see to know there's no protection towards your health out here any more.

The Truth About The Daily Times Relocating

Delmarva Dealings and Integrity Maters are both telling stories that The Daily Times may be moving. This story simply is not true. Although The Daily Times is researching/hoping to purchase a new Press, (which has failed them numerous times in the past) they would consider housing that new Press in another location, yet keep all their offices exactly where it is located now. They feel they could add far more office space in the building they're currently in if the Press was relocated but they have no plans on moving anywhere. I just wanted to set the record straight.

Movin On Up

As cold as it's been, they're still up there working away constructing walls and changing the skyine of Salisbury. I also noticed today in the front windows the For Sale Signs for Condos on the Plaza.

Another Leaner

I'm sure someone reading this Blog knows what guidelines should be followed determining when a pole is leaning too far or not. I'd love to know what it is? This photo isn't being posted to complain. There's no power to this pole. I'm simply curious.

City Council Race, 10's a crowd

Mr. Patrick Hannon makes 10!

There are now 10 candidates that want to see a positive change in the Salisbury City Council as Patrick (Pat) Hannon joined the massive group of people wanting to make a run at a Council seat. I just wonder how many are FOB's?

Is His GQ Higher Than His IQ?

Although I already posted an article about the PAC 14 production last week with Chief Webster, I couldn’t help but make additional remarks thinking, “If I Were The Chief Of Police In Salisbury.”

The first thing I would have done would be to ask Barrie Tilghman Live, exactly what does she expect from an under paid, under staffed young Police Force? My Police Force is a team and if you want to see things turn around the first thing you’ll propose within this years budget is equal pay for my Officers in the City of Salisbury. That beings said, equal means the same pay as the Sheriffs Department as well as the State Police.

Without a pay raise the Salisbury Police Department will continue to lose Officers, especially seasoned Officers that are extremely valuable. Since there will be a new City Council in the next few months, should things continue down the path the Mayor has taken all of us, “ALL” Officers will have to consider transferring to other Forces because there’s no light at the end of the tunnel for the next 6 years.

It is vital we see the like of Tim Spies, Terry Cohen and Louise Smith, who are willing to stick their necks out and demand the City recognize that Public Safety must be the first line of correction and a very poorly managed City. The Mayor and even the Council have received substantial raises. The Fire Department is receiving a $10,000,000.00 facility, even though the City cannot afford it. The Police were left behind.

The Salisbury Zoo is looking at a $36,000,000.00 renovation and they have tripled the Staff at the Zoo while hundreds of animals have died and there are far less to care for. Again, the Police are being left behind. The Zoo has asked for $50,000.00 from the General Fund for engineering drawings for a new visitors center/education building. They are also asking for an additional $250,000.00 for construction of that building, even though Ron Alessi stated not a dime would come from taxpayers! The Zoo is also asking for $500,000.00 from the City for an animal isolation building the AZA demanded be built three years ago. They’re even asking for $70,000.00 for an Australian Exhibit that is supposed to be covered by their fund raising and have now been slick enough to pass it off on the taxpayers. Again, the Police Department is struggling with old vehicles and not enough BASE PAY to get anyone interested in relocating here and joining our Force and again are being left behind.

Barrie, if you cannot respect the fact that my Team must be cared for, I must offer you my resignation. The lack of respect I receive from my Team right now is at an all time low and I fear most everyone will look elsewhere for jobs that will provide for their families. Anything less than equal pay is unacceptable, especially as my Team looks around them and watches other groups come first. The Zoo is over staffed and the Police Department is under staffed. This makes no sense.

I would like to also work as closely as I can with Sheriff Mike Lewis and use our resources together to create the finest law enforcement team ever created in one county. I believe the Salisbury Police Department has equipment and staff that could compliment the Sheriffs Department and I believe the Sheriffs Department can offer some of what we don’t have. Together we can work as a team to get the drugs off the streets, get a strong hold on Gangs, get the guns off the streets and get control of our City/County again and make Salisbury/Wicomico County a very desirable place to live and retire. Without such a Team Force and without utilizing our resources and experience as a Team, we have no control as we are under staffed and we cannot offer our Officers the back up and security that would encourage someone to go out there and risk their lives for this kind of pay.

It’s time for a change, with or without me. The most important thing I can off my/our Officers is proving to them that I believe in them, I stand behind them and if I cannot do my job, (which is convincing everyone we need this kind of support) I cannot accept another paycheck.

Jersey Road

Last weekend, (of course we were in a hurry) we took the back roads thinking it would be MUCH quicker because no one travels them. Anyhow, this was what we came across on Jersey Road. If you travel this road you'll know we were more than a quarter of a mile away from the stop sign and then look behind us in the rear side view mirror. I believe this should be a concern for the County Council.

If I Had My Child To Raise Over Again

"If I had my child to raise over again, I'd finger paint more, and point the finger less.

I'd do less correcting, and more connecting.

I'd take my eyes off my watch, and watch with my eyes.

I would care to know less, and know to care more.

I'd take more hikes and fly more kites.

I'd stop playing serious and seriously play.

I would run through more fields and gaze at more stars.

I'd do more hugging, and less tugging.

I would be firm less often, and affirm much more.

I'd build self-esteem first, and the house later.

I'd teach less about the love of power, And more about the power of love."

A Giant Mess!

Perhaps this location backs up to an area most don't see regularly, they feel they can let things go? Perhaps this manager is simply a slob? All I can tell you is, remember the photos I produced not that long ago of what the inside of a Giant Store looked like once their equipment was gone? There was mold all over the walls and floors and that was a clean Giant. I wonder what things look like inside this store behind the normal scope of vision?

Where Did You Sleep Last Night?

Just like other big cities, Salisbury is a victim of growth, both good and bad. The big question is, have they prepared for such a thing? I've been to many a council meetings and I do not ever recall anyone discussing the homeless and who might care for them. All I can say is, it was pretty darned cold out there last night. It's time to go from the 3rd floor down to the ground floor!

Around The Blogosphere

Delmarva Dealings is back on line and has a VERY interesting article on yesterday's Daily Slime article about Mike Dunn.

A Letter To The Editor From Candidate Terry Cohen

January 29, 2007

To the Editor of the Times:

The overall goal of my candidacy for the Salisbury City Council is to put the citizens first in everything we do. I will use my public policy, business, and community experience and skills toward building our future by focusing on the citizens and resources we have now.

Based on citizen input, I will work to:

Reduce our serious crime rate and neighborhood deterioration, ensuring our police, fire and EMS personnel are competitively paid;

Better manage our growth and tax dollars to improve our infrastructure, environment and quality of life, which will attract good businesses and jobs;

Develop safe, affordable housing solutions for our diverse citizenry; and

Create an open, responsive and respectful government that is welcoming to its citizens.

Over the years, as a gubernatorial appointee on the Maryland Commission for Women, in leadership capacities for the Business & Professional Women (BPW), and through achievement at work and as a volunteer, I have earned a very positive reputation in our community.

When I first spoke before this city council in June 2005, I asked that they put election differences and personal issues behind them and stay focused on policy. I have expressed dissenting views in a civil manner and limited comments to policy and behaviors in elected capacity.

Mike Dunn’s baseless accusation Sunday that I am a “notorious blogger” is yet another example of his inappropriate behavior pattern. As an involved citizen and now a candidate, I receive coverage in, consume news from, and communicate with this newspaper, the TV and radio stations, and the blogs.

For the sake of our city and our citizens, I ask everyone – all media included – to remain focused on issues and qualifications this election season. It is time for positive change, and I ask voters to help me achieve it.

Terry E. Cohen
Candidate, District 2
Salisbury City Council
536 Druid Hill Ave.
Salisbury, MD 21801

Authority: Citizens for Terry Cohen - Owen Schweers, Treasurer

RED NET ALERT!!!!

Three new people have thrown their hat into the ring for City Council. John Atkins, Neil Bayne & Keith Wright. That brings us to 9 people and there's always tomorrow too.

On a personal note, the ONLY people I have seen in the past three years at City Council Meetings is Terry Cohen and Tim Spies. Isn't it interesting how out of nowhere all these other people have decided they are qualified to run for City Council?

This is going to get very interesting and I truly cannot wait to meet these people and hear what they have to say. Who knows, maybe they are qualified?

John Atkins, Lions Club member, b. 1942, Republican, 225 Canal Park Dr. Unit 12

Keith Wright, 810 E. Church St., b. 1959, Democrat

Neil Bayne, 707 College Lane, b. 1936, Democrat, former primary candidate County Council (lost to Dave MacLeod who went on to win general election)

It's A Sad Day For Horses

I found out that one of the police horses, Mac, had to be put down due to neurological problems. He wasn't getting up and was having trouble standing. A Veterinarian said sometimes they just don't retire well and it happened to his horse soon after he had to retire him.

Thanks Barrie Tilghman, Mike Dunn, Gary Comegys, Pam Oland and Chief Webster!!!!!!

What goes around, comes around. Looks like the Citizens are about to start retiring each one of you and you'll have no choice, just like those beautiful horses.

Kentucky Derby Winner Barbaro was euthanized today as well. Read that story here.

Have We Lost Respect?

The Downtown Salisbury Post Office had the American Flag high on top of its poll overnight without any illuminations whatsoever. Perhaps things have changed but I always understood that you do not fly the American Flag at night unless it is illuminated. Am I wrong?

Just In Case You Missed It

How many days before the hearing do they have to advertise something like this? Just curious.

Jimmy's Grille Gets A New Dumpster

By that evening the dumpster was full and dripping onto the ground for the City's Rats to snag a quick meal. I don't know why this Idiot doesn't realize people are seeing how big a slob they are and clearly the Health Department in Salisbury is non existent. Oh well, I'll never eat there, that's for sure.

Does The City Of Salisbury Need A Skate Park?

Although Barrie Tilghman throws around her weight at the Police Department trying to insist her demands be met, being the 20th most dangerous City in America, the Police just might think there are more important things to do that run off kids like this trying to have a good time. After all, (unlike Barrie Tilghman who sent her kids off to Boarding School rather than raising them) we were all kids once.

John Jacobs Calls This A "Shit Granade"

There will be a major event with the MDE this morning as they are once again back at the WWTP investigating yet another mishap. 9 days ago a front end loader hit another storage feces lagoon, (located in the big black rectangular area the arrow is pointed to) and caused damage.

Once again, this is information you haven’t heard from the Daily Slime, the Mayor or John Jacobs. I was personally unaware of this 1,000,000 gallon holding area, (another sludge pit) and I would have to believe the MDE was aware of it? Then I heard there is yet another major situation going on down there with the Electricians. It seems that there is NOT a single licensed Electrician on the site out of 25 Electricians currently doing work.

It’s no wonder Mike Dunn QUIT his job as President of the City Council. Bloggers like me keep spreading hateful and hurtful information that ONLY effects people like Barrie Tilghman and Mike Dunn, yet the readers could be saved from millions of dollars in fines and damages. It’s called accountability, something Barry Tilghman and Mike Dunn know nothing about.

See You At The Bottom Mike.

Does Mike Dunn Understand The Word ACCOUNTABILITY?

The Daily Slime got its chance to spin the, it's Lady Campbell and those mean bloggers fault that I won't seek re-election. Now it's mine...

I'll read between the lines for you on some interesting points in the article.
"Problem is, not everyone voted for us." Wasn't it the lowest voter turnout on record? I guess it can be difficult to get those renters out to vote.

Though he's never much cared for the label, Dunn was one of three new council members billed as the "Dream Team." He, Lynn Cathcart (who is also not running again) and Gary Comegys (who is) were recruited in 2003 to return civility and order to what had become a contentious chamber. Obviously the Slime's reporters have missed the gaveling down and flat out screaming at citizens from outraged council members. Excluding Mrs. Campbell.

With Campbell came a band of constituents and others that Mayor Barrie Parsons Tilghman has branded "The Dirty Dozen." Okay lets talk about this one. This article calls Von Siggers a "team critic." They print a nasty cartoon with Rachel Polk getting shot out of a cannon from a boat holding members of the "Dream Team." The council in emails labels concerned citizens, "Cave People." But, The blogs shouldn't be setting the tone for our community. It's got to be about goodness. Obviously the scheme team and the slime doesn't practice what they preach when they go after Mrs. Campbell, Tim Spies, Terry Cohen and myself without us being able to dispute what is said. Remember it's all about "goodness!"

"These people- the bloggers and people who hate to be disagreed with-have five ways to spread their mean-spirited messages to the public," he said. "They have the blogs, one of them has a radio show (insert Bill Reddish's name here, Bill you have arrived!), there's the Grapevine (in The Daily Times), they can submit letters to the newspaper (and have the editors rewrite them), and they get up and speak during council meetings that are aired on PAC 14 (where they will be screamed at and gaveled down).

"I had one goal and that was to settle things down," He's made a few mistakes. "I'll be the first to admit that." But overall, Dunn said he accomplished his mission. Part of that mission was to make a windfall off of the Sassafras Meadows property and receive Bank of Delmarva stock. You know, BPT's hubby is on the board. How odd!

"I have a beautiful wife, we have a beautiful home and I want to spend some time with her and travel." Now I can thanks to a padded bank account.

"We created the first ever capacity fee on water and sewer and took the city out of the developer reimbursement business." Insert, after Sassafras Meadows/Westwood and the Old Mall TIF and multiple other developer reimbursements.

The first development passed under the new policy will generate nearly $500,000 for the rehabilitation of existing neighborhoods, and another $300,000 will be dumped into a funding pool (aka the sludge pit) to enable some of the development's units to be sold for work force housing police officers and teachers, he said. Gee, one can only speculate how much more funding would be available if those previous projects (see above) were made to comply also.

Isabella Street: Solved, Dunn said. According to who? Lets allow all of our heavily trafficked streets to do the same, fair is fair.

"We will be putting fewer nutrients into our waterways than ever before," he said. Translation: Only because we were caught red handed dumping raw sewage into the Wicomico River from the Zoo and the WWTP. Thanks needs to go to those rotten bloggers!

Salisbury City Council battles used to make national headlines, but no longer, Dunn said. "We brought honor and respect back to that room." It helped that we don't allow C. Tilghman to be anywhere near council members so she doesn't acquire any more assault charges. That way Chief Webster doesn't have to lie under oath anymore about how he "didn't see a thing" while he's pulling the Mayor's daughter off of Rachel Polk. And please ignore how I use the gavel, I never got a toy hammer as a child and I'm making up for lost time.

"I made (Tilghman) a promise," he said. "I told her we would not challenge the administration's duties and responsibilities, and as a result we've forged a working relationship. And a financial one too.

"Much of the negativism that comes our way is because we decided to do business with the mayor," he said. Okay so he admits it here folks, it's all BPT's fault! Boy she must really be mad now, the rats are jumping ship. Lets see that in a political cartoon. After all it couldn't have anything to do with his own behavior.

I've never had any agenda, except to do what was best for the city of Salisbury." And maybe my bank account and some of my builder buddies.

Than he gets to me and says, He is now using his blog to spread hate against homosexuals. I'm wondering why that post struck the biggest nerve with Mikey. If he had children and was walking the plaza and saw what I saw, how would he explain it to them?

"He shows up at every meeting," Dunn said, "snapping shots of everybody, following the police chief around and putting it all on his Web site." Of course Mike would rather no one show up at meetings that way the Scheme Team could rob taxpayers blind. News flash Mike, I wasn't following the chief, he was following me. At least try and get your story straight. Remember it's all about "goodness."

"At least two candidates (Terry Cohen and Tim Spies) are notorious bloggers," he said. Now I would love to know exactly where he got that from. All this finger pointing is starting to sound a bit mean spirited. I guess the "goodness" was wearing thin by the end of the article.

"And you watch, mark my words, within a day or two of this story coming out I invite people to go to the blogs and read the hate." Since you've already read enough of my own here. By the way Mikey, Blogging is much quicker than a day or two. You must have been referring to the Slime?

I find it very interesting that the Slime found this to be front page news and such a big article. But I quickly figured things out when I looked at the back bottom of the last page of the article, under the weather and saw a half page ad for the new Bank of Delmarva that just opened. Must have cost them a pretty penny, or not.

In closing, I thank all you Bloggers. You have finally let taxpayers know elected officials can no longer rob taxpayers blind. This is by no means the ending for Mike Dunn. I believe the next headline news you'll see about Mike Dunn reference the charges the State of Maryland will be charging him with for his activities in Sasafras Meadows and his mysterious, out of nowhere announcement of his Stock in the Bank of Delmarva.

It was his own doings that brought Mike Dunn down, not the Blogs. We were simply the "ONLY" source of news that brought these things to a head and a perfect example is the Slime's propaganda piece in today's kitty litter box liner.

Mayor Martin and Chief Dykes are smiling down from the Heavens right now. The "Good Old Girl System" is being blown apart by their own doings. Who says you can't fight City Hall and win?

Happy Birthday Bull

Today is our friend Bull Diesel, (aka Aaron Hudson) 35th Birthday and he'll be celebrating it on the job. Bull is well known and well respected as a veteran cop of 16 years with the City of Salisbury. So if you see Big Bull, make sure you wish him a Happy Birthday. Then tell him Joe Albero said "You're Number One." LOL

Tonight's Moon Ring

Our friend buryvoter sent me this picture just moments ago. The ring you see around the moon is not a reflection in the lens. If you go outside right now and take a look at the moon you will see this circle surrounding the moon. It's pretty cool. Some say that is a sign it will snow?

Lowes Looks Like Crap!

We wouldn't line our own properties with the crap fencing lumber Lowes sells so why as a community would we let them line their Garden Center with it?

I truly don't get it Folks, it really does look like crap and every time we turn around this company is breaking the rules, building structures on their property without permits. I hope Tom Stevenson gets out there REAL soon before they secure this fence and tell them to get it the hell out of there.

Imagine what it's going to look like in 2 years. Crap lumber, crap manufacturing, warping wood everywhere and then graffiti sprayed all over it. Yeah, this is going to look great over time!

The Salisbury Plaza, "The Best Place In Town To Take A Leak."

Our friend "Duffy" was laying down calcium to melt all the ice created by this leak in one of the fountains yesterday. Being very observant, Duffy noticed water around the base of this fountain while driving past it. He called in for additional help because he couldn't figure out how to turn off the water valve, (not his area).

After pulling away however, I realized there was a plastic bag covering the drain pipe and I simply removed it and the fountain drained back to normal and things were once again back to normal.

HOWEVER! What I did realize based on this occurring is that these fountains are set up JUST LIKE THE SALISBURY ZOO'S!

You the taxpayers and property owners are in FACT paying for water to run 24/7 into these ponds! That's right folks, the water comes in and it instantly drains right into the sewer lines and is COMPLETELY WASTED 24/7!

Since these guys are out there every day of the week, it's not like they can't open a drain and fill these ponds up, should they drop slightly in one day. Instead, they've made them maintenance free by filling them up and draining the water right out.

This has got to be one of the biggest waste's of water, no different from every pool, (and there's lots of them) in the Salisbury Zoo! Each and every one of you are paying for this waste and the City couldn't care less.

I can't wait to see a new Council!
