How long has it been since you’ve seen one of those mortgage-burning pictures? It was once a big deal, especially with the Greatest Generation.
There was no joy like that last mortgage payment, and our parents prided themselves on burning that paper, hopefully before they retired.
These days, baby boomers increasingly are carrying that debt into retirement.
And while there are pluses to that (the interest rate deduction for some), many financial planners now advise their clients to pay off the mortgage. But they are much more concerned with credit-card, auto-loan and student-loan debt.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau says the percentage of homeowners ages 65 and older with mortgage debt increased from 22 percent in 2001 to 30 percent in 2011. Among homeowners 75 and older, the rate more than doubled, from 8.4 to 21.2 percent.

Christie: Obama has encouraged lawlessness
Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.) said on Tuesday that President Obama’s actions are inspiring people to disregard the nation’s laws.
“Whether it is New York, Chicago or San Francisco, it is happening everywhere,” he said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
“The president has encouraged this lawlessness,” the 2016 GOP presidential candidate added. “It is coming from the top.”
Christie cited Obama's immigration policies as proof that the president is selective about which laws he enforces.
That approach, Christie added, is inspiring similar approaches to government at the state and city levels.

DC-area Harley-Davidson backs out of ‘Ride for Justice’
FORT WASHINGTON, Md. (AP) — A Harley-Davison dealership has withdrawn its invitation to bikers who planned to meet at its Fort Washington location ahead of a Washington rally organized by Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.
The dealership’s owners had agreed to let bikers to gather at the location Oct. 10 before a “Ride for Justice” rally into Washington D.C. ahead of a march associated with the 20th anniversary of the Nation of Islam’s “Million Man March.” The dealership changed its stance following backlash, including an online petition condemning Farrakhan for advocating violence.
Farrakhan has said the upcoming march, “Justice or Else,” is intended to galvanize a more strategic movement for equality. The 1995 march was billed as a men-only event intended to encourage black men to commit to family values and improving their communities

The Human Cost of Socialism in Power
The attempt to establish a comprehensive socialist system in many parts of the world over the last one hundred years has been one of the cruelest and most brutal episodes in human history.
Some historians have estimated that as many as 200 million people may have died as part of the dream of creating a collectivist "Paradise on Earth." Making a better "new world" was taken to mean the extermination, the liquidation, the mass murder of all those that the socialist revolutionary leaders declared to be "class enemies," including the families, the children of "enemies of the people."
The Bloody Road to Making a New Socialist Man
We will soon be marking the hundredth anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia (November 1917) under the Marxist revolutionary leader, Vladimir Lenin. In Soviet Russia, alone, it has been calculated by Russian and Western historians who had limited access to the secret archives of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and the KGB (the Soviet secret police) in the 1990s that around 68 million innocent, unarmed men, women and children were killed over the nearly 75 years of communist rule in the Soviet Union.
The communist revolutionaries in Russia proudly declared their goal to be destruction and death to everything that existed before the revolution, so as to have a clean slate upon which to mold the new socialist man.

Democrats clinch critical 41 votes for Iran nuclear deal
WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrats clinched the crucial Senate votes Tuesday to block passage of a disapproval resolution against the Iran nuclear accord, an outcome that would be a major victory for President Barack Obama against united Republican opposition.
But amid fast-paced developments as lawmakers returned to Washington from their five-week summer recess, supporters of the deal stopped short of declaring victory. That was because it remained uncertain whether all 41 Democratic and independent senators now on record in favor of the deal would also support a filibuster to block a final vote on the disapproval resolution.
Still, the complicated machinery of Congress was turning in favor of the president on his top foreign policy priority, despite GOP control of both the House and the Senate. Already supporters of the deal have the votes in hand to uphold Obama's veto of a disapproval resolution, should that become necessary. Blocking the disapproval resolution with a filibuster, while ideal from the White House view because it would spare Obama from having to use a veto, would not change the ultimate outcome.

NBC Poll: Donald Trump Dominates, Jeb Bush Implodes
Current GOP frontrunner Donald Trump maintains a strong lead in New Hampshire, while establishment pick Jeb Bush has steadily lost support in the early-voting Granite State, says the new NBC News/Marist poll.
Trump is 16 percentage points ahead of his closest competitor, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, and has 28 percent of likely Republican voters backing him.
Dr. Ben Carson came in third place with 11 percent of the vote, while Bush dropped to fourth place at eight percent.
Bush has lost almost half his supporters in New Hampshire since July, when he was in second place behind Trump with 14 percent to Trump’s 21 percent. Since February’s, he’s lost almost two-thirds of his support, when he was at 18 percent.

Hillary: ‘I Am Going To Make Some Employers Go to Jail’
Speaking at a Labor Day rally in Hampton, Ill., today Hillary Clinton threatened to imprison employers for “wage theft.”
“We’re going to go back to enforcing labor laws,” Clinton said. “I’m going to make sure that some employers go to jail for wage theft and all the other abuses that they engage in.”
“And we are going to make it harder and harder to stop what should be the right of every American: to join a union and bargain collectively through that union,” she continued. “But, I’ll tell you, we’ve got a fight on our hands.”
The presumed 2016 Democratic candidate also endorsed President Obama’s executive order mandating government contractors provide employees “paid leave.”
“I was very proud that President Obama said today he is going to require federal contractors to provide seven days of earned paid sick leave,” she said. “And he’s going to fight for paid family leave, something that I’ve been fighting for for 30 years and we’re going to get it done. It’s not right to treat working people as though they don’t have other responsibilities.”

OC Local Breaking Through Country Ranks, Thanks To Special ‘Superman’ Song
OCEAN CITY – Rising country singer and former Ocean City local Jimmy Charles will always remember Sept. 1 as the day his wildest dreams came true.
That’s the day the video for his current single “Superman”, premiered on CMT (Country Music Television).
“My phone exploded,” recalls Charles. “They premiered it at 6 a.m., put it as the featured video on the website, and by the day’s end, it was the most watched video, and I was the fourth most searched for artist on the site behind names like Taylor Swift and Luke Bryan. I think all the notifications on my phone drained the battery twice.”
Earlier this week, the video premiered on GAC (Great American Country) to similarly big numbers, and it appears that the song could be, as they say in the industry, catching fire.

Report: Patriots sent employees into locker rooms to steal play sheets
While much of the information in the new ESPN report detailing the Patriots’ Spygate-era portrays the team has engaged in something akin to espionage, there are also charges that they were into more common forms of larceny as well.
Among the charges outlined in the Outside the Lines report include one so brazen and blatant that it seems hard to believe.
Several former Patriots coaches and employees alleged that the team would send “low-level” employees into opposing locker rooms during pre-game warm-ups to “steal play sheets” from teams which scripted their offenses.
The report also says the team would send employees to “rummage through the visiting team hotel for playbooks or scouting reports.”
Such tactics were apparently suspected by other teams, who would leave dummy play sheets sitting around in hopes of throwing the Patriots off their trails.

10 Wild Animals That Are Becoming Domesticated Pets
The word "pet" evokes images of cats curled up on laps, loyal dogs fetching sticks and furry rodents running on wheels. Even with the occasional bird, reptile or arachnid mixed in, pets are pretty predictable for the most part. But as the popularity of exotic pets grows, more animal lovers are legally welcoming formerly wild creatures into their homes. Read on to see what surprising animals from the wild outdoor world are becoming domesticated and adored by pet owners.
Foxes
Foxes are starting to slink their way into homes. In 1959, a Soviet geneticist started researching domestication by breeding foxes. A half century later, the work continues in Siberia at the Institute of Cytology and Genetics. Several generations into the project, the foxes currently at the institute act similarly to dogs. They require a significant amount of extra work, but are available to bring home. Still, getting a pet fox isn't as easy as dropping by an animal shelter. These pets cost $8,000, and to obtain one you must be approved by the institute's importer.

Troopers Labor Throughout State Yielded Positive Results
The Labor Day weekend efforts of the Maryland State Police had a positive effect on reducing crashes and keeping the public safe to enjoy the last holiday of summer.
Preliminary information indicates from September 4 through September 7, 2015, troopers made approximately 8,075 traffic stops. They issued 5,493 citations and 4,720 warnings. There were 126 drunk driving arrests and 866 repair orders issued for defective vehicle equipment.
In support of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, S.P.I.D.R.E., a full-time drunk driving enforcement team, was out this weekend in areas of Prince George’s County where drunk drivers and drunk driving crashes are known to be prevalent. The team arrested 20 impaired drivers and issued over 120 citations. Five of those drivers arrested were repeat offenders.
The traffic enforcement efforts of the Maryland State Police led to criminal violations as well. Troopers made 65 arrests and an additional 75 wanted people were arrested on outstanding criminal warrants.
Troopers assigned to the Southern Maryland and Eastern Shore regions worked the Operation SHOWBOAT initiative and inundated the Route 50 corridor from the Chesapeake Bay to Ocean City. Operation Millipede enforcement efforts placed troopers along the entire I-95/I-495 corridor from the Delaware to Virginia state lines. Both operations successfully contributed to highway safety this weekend. During these initiatives there were no fatal or serious crashes.
The Maryland State Police continue to support the Maryland Highway Safety Office’s ‘Move Toward Zero Deaths’ campaign. These high visibility enforcement efforts reduce the number of aggressive driving motor vehicle crashes in which speed, alcohol and other driving violations are contributing factors to crashes on Maryland roads. Troopers will continue initiatives throughout the year.

2015 East Coast Lady Trooper Charity Softball Tournament
The 14th Annual East Coast Lady Trooper Charity Softball Tournament will be hosted by the Delaware State Police. This two day event will take place at the Sports at the Beach Complex located at 22518 Lewes-Georgetown Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947, east of Georgetown, on September 19th and 20th 2015.
This annual charity event solicits the support of female State Troopers along the east coast to raise money to support local charities. The purpose of this softball tournament is to bring several different state agencies together for a common goal of helping others. Each year the hosting state donates the tournament proceeds to local charities.
The charities chosen this year are Camp Barnes and the Special Olympics of Delaware. Camp Barnes originally opened in 1948 to combat juvenile delinquency. The camp was named in recognition of Col. Herbert A. Barnes, who was the Superintendent of the Delaware State Police at the time of the camp's inception and was instrumental in raising the necessary funds and volunteer work needed to make Camp Barnes a success. The camp's operating budget exceeds $200,000 per year, and all of the funds are from donations and fundraisers. For eight weeks during the summer, 60 youths per week - ages 10 to 13 - attend Camp Barnes with no financial burden on parents or guardians. In addition to the above, Special Olympics of Delaware, the Delaware Burn Camp Foundation, the City of Wilmington and the Delaware 4H utilize Camp Barnes.
Special Olympics Delaware provides a year-round program of quality sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and/or cognitive delays. A family of over 4,000 volunteers makes this program possible for the more than 3,500 athletes who compete in Special Olympics Delaware. The organization builds sports skills, confidence, strength, motivation and self-esteem ... not just for the athletes, but for everyone involved.
In the 13 year history of this event, the tournaments have raised over $100,000.00 for the supported charities. It has grown to include teams from nine states (Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and Delaware) throughout the east coast and the Delaware State Police have hosted the tournament twice. Please join these Troopers to reach our goal of raising $15,000.00 for Camp Barnes and the Special Olympics of Delaware. If you are interested in supporting this great cause, you are welcome to donate (please make checks payable to Pipes & Drums of the First State, Inc., a 501(c)3) or come out to watch the games. The Delaware State Police is proud to support these charities and our community. We have assembled two teams to play in the tournament this year and obtained corporate donations from major supporters in the First State, but would appreciate all the support possible from the citizens of this great state.
