Route 50 Bridge Repairs To Close Bridge Friday Night

OCEAN CITY — The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will close the Harry W. Kelley Memorial Drawbridge (Route 50 Bridge) Friday night to conduct needed repairs to the structure.

Work will begin at 10 p.m. on Friday, April 6 and proceed until repairs are complete at approximately 8 a.m. Saturday. The closure is necessary because the crews will need to raise the drawbridge to conduct the work to make the repair.

Isn't it a little early to be drinking? It's a drawbridge, it has to be closed off to work on it properly; you know, that whole opening & closing part? Better to work on it now than for it to be stuck open in the middle of the season.

  7. Why would they do this on a Friday night? Now all of west Ocean City will not head into Ocean City for a night out. Stupid decision.

    1. Don't ask WHY - Do as I - Search to find the answer. A small part the news was left out.

which said.... A small crack in a single steel beam was discovered during routine evaluation of the bridge, and the work is necessary to ensure reliability before the spring and summer season.
