5 Tips From A Pro For Cooking Up An Awesome Hamburger

At Consumerist, we take burgers very seriously. So much so, that we wanted to share some tips we gathered from an expert about the basics every burger lover should know before they fire up their grill.

We spoke to Chef Howie Velie, Associate Dean of Specializations at the Culinary Institute of America, and here are a few things he says every home cook should keep in mind:

1. Use ground beef with an 80/20 lean-to-fat ratio

If you want something to be moist, like a burger, you have to maintain the moisture within the product. To do that, Chef Velie says, it’s important to use a ground beef with high fat content, because fat equals moisture.

He adds that whatever heat source you use, whether it be a grill or a pan on the stove, heat transfers very well through fat. That means the fattier the burger, the faster it will cook, Chef Velie explains.

BREAKING NEWS The U.S. and South Korea conducted joint missile exercises after the Pentagon confirmed North Korea's launch of an ICBM

The Trump administration on Tuesday confirmed North Korea’s claim that it had launched an intercontinental ballistic missile. It told Pyongyang that the United States would use “the full range of capabilities at our disposal against the growing threat.”

The administration followed up that warning with a joint military exercise in which United States and South Korean forces fired missiles in the waters along the Peninsula’s east coast as a show of power.

North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong-un, called the launch a milestone in its efforts to build nuclear weapons capable of hitting the American mainland.

Disney Removing Bride Auction Scene From ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ Ride

Next time you take your family on Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean ride, you might notice a change: No more “wenches” up for sale as brides to the highest bidder.

Yup, Disney has announced this classic ride — found at Disneyland, Disney World, and Disney Paris — will no longer feature the animatronic tableau of four women in chains being auctioned off by a guy that looks like your uncle’s one friend who never says much but just stares a log.

The bride auction will be replaced by a scene that features the one unchained female — the redhead on the right in the above photo — “helping the townspeople ‘unload” their valuables.”

Phoenix Drops Sanctuary City Status And Crime Rate DROPS Instantly

It’s a proven fact regardless of what propaganda that you read out there, that sanctuary cities have more crime… because they house and protect criminals. When Phoenix dropped their sanctuary policy back in 2008, crime dropped by 25 percent. It went to a 20-year low. William Lajeunesse of Fox News is reporting that data from City-Data.com reveals that from 2008 to 2009, the murder rate in Phoenix dropped by 27 percent. Other crimes dropped as well. Auto thefts were down by 36 percent, robberies by 23 percent, thefts by 19 percent, burglaries by 14 percent and assault by 13 percent. Those numbers don’t lie and they are compelling. The rates fell again in 2010, but not by near as much.

This is at odds with police chiefs in liberal cities around the country claiming that penalizing sanctuary cities will cause crime to go up and even instigate terrorist attacks. They claim that sanctuary cities are safer than cities that turn criminal illegal aliens over to ICE. That’s just not so and simple logic would indicate as much. “Police chiefs across the nation believe that enlisting local police to enforce immigration law is a bad idea,” California Senate President Pro Tem Kevin De Leon (D) told reporters during a recent press conference, “Having [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] pluck criminals out of jail and send them across the border or wherever they came only to come right back endangers our communities.”

Who pays when someone without insurance shows up in the ER?

If an uninsured patient shows up in the emergency room, who pays? The hospital? Taxpayers? The patient? Other patients?

The question is important as Republicans debate health care legislation that could result in more than 20 million fewer Americans having health insurance in ten years. If that happens, some people will go without care. Others will show up at hospitals, but won’t be able to pay their bills.

The year the Affordable Care Act passed, hospitals provided about $40 billion in "uncompensated care" — that is, care they were not paid for. That was nearly 6% of their total 2010 expenses.

A 1985 federal law requires emergency departments to stabilize and treat anyone entering their doors, regardless of their ability to pay.

State Police Arrest Delmar Man Wanted for Robbery

Richard L. Oneal, 31 of Delmar
Laurel– The Delaware State Police have arrested a Delmar man after he was discovered unconscious in the bathroom of a local area Royal Farms convenience store.

The preliminary investigation has determined on Tuesday, July 04, 2017 at approximately 3:43 a.m., troopers responded to the Royal Farms convenience store located at 30983 Sussex Highway Laurel, after a report of a male subject found unconscious in the men’s bathroom. EMS personnel responded to the scene and transported him to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital for further medical evaluation. The subject was later identified as Richard L. Oneal, 31 of Delmar. During the investigation drug evidence was gathered from the bathroom of the convenience store, the vehicle he arrived in and his clothing.

After being treated and released from the hospital, Oneal was arrested after a computer check revealed he was wanted for a robbery he committed on June 25, 2017 where he assaulted a subject and stole the victim’s wallet near Georgetown. He was also wanted as an absconder from probation.

Richard L. Oneal was transported to Troop 4, Georgetown where he was arrested and formally charged with Robbery 1st Degree, Possession of Heroin and Drug Paraphernalia. He was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 3 and subsequently committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $60,800.00 cash bond.

Bernie’s Daughter Paid $500k To Teach Woodworking At Jane’s Bankrupt College

The world is growing increasingly wonky and is filling itself to the brim with things I don’t understand. For instance, Carina Driscoll – the daughter of the embattled Bernie and Jane Sanders – was hired to teach woodworking at Burlington College, which went bankrupt and closed last spring.

Burlington College prided itself on catering to “non-traditional students,” such as veterans and adults, and had a relatively small enrollment – about 200 students. It also offered degrees in unconventional fields such as woodworking, but when Jane Sanders arrived at the college in 2004, it didn’t offer any sort of program for woodworking. That’s when things get a little… corrupt.

Rob Reiner Wants War, Claims Trump Is First President Not Fighting For Democracy

Rob Reiner does know that he’s… Rob Reiner, right? A pudgy squishbag who is the last human being on the planet who should be calling for any sort of conflict?

I mean, since when are film directors interested in war as anything other than a depiction that will win them awards? After they take their golden statues home, place them on their shelves and kiss them goodnight, they get on Twitter and talk about how terrible war is. If it’s so bad, why are you okay with profiting off of it?

Hyperbole abounds in Hollywood these days and Trump seems to be at the receiving end of most of it. (The rest is kindly directed at you and me for daring to be conservative.)
On Saturday, Reiner went on MSNBC to brow-beat the President and complain that he’s not “fighting for Democracy.”

American Media Will Continue to Lose Credibility if They Continue to be Lap Dogs to Liberalism

The vast majority of journalists are Liberals. They donate to Democrats and Liberals causes. They report in a bias fashion that favors Democrats and demonizes Republicans.

The day the media takes a middle road, give both Republicans and Democrats equal Hell in reporting without favor to either party, that will be the time their credibility with the public will be fully restored.

Will they do it? I doubt it very much and as such the public will continue to hold them in very low regard, and not take ABC, CBS, NBC, or CNN seriously at all.

The Cost of Medicaid

The number of Americans enrolled in Medicaid has increased from 29 million in 1990 to 73 million today — an increase of 252 percent over a period when the nation’s population increased 30 percent.

Total spending on Medicaid today is $574 billion, 275 percent above the $209 billion of 2000.

Medicaid amounts to about 40 percent of the total spending on the 10 largest means-tested federal government programs targeted at low-income Americans. According to the Congressional Budget Office, spending on these programs has tripled as a percentage of our GDP over the last 40 years.

Does all this mean we are becoming a more fair and compassionate nation?

That might have been the intention. But if we honestly look at what is happening, we will see things have gone badly astray.

Some perspective on this is available in a new article by Harvard University economist Edward Glaeser in the City Journal magazine of the Manhattan Institute.

How tactical first-aid kits are helping police save local lives

WASHINGTON — More and more police officers across the country are being outfitted with small trauma kits. And these nondescript black packs attached to the back of the passenger seat headrest in police cruisers have been powerful when it comes to saving lives in an emergency.

In the three years that Prince George’s County police officers have had the tactical first-aid kits, or “tac kits,” they have saved the lives of 16 citizens with them.

The kits were initially meant to treat police officers who had been wounded, said Police Cpl. George Harley.

“Generally when we’re wounded, we’re in what’s called a ‘hot zone,’ where there’s still shots being fired.”

The simple mathematical mismatch at the heart of the pension crisis...

Why the pension crisis really is “America’s silent crisis”...

Pensions timebomb confronts Ireland, UK and most EU countries

By Brian Maher, Managing editor, The Daily Reckoning

"This is going to be a national crisis..."

“This” being America’s woefully underfunded pension liabilities, according to Karen Friedman. She’s the executive vice president of the Pension Rights Center.

(A place called the Pension Rights Center does in fact exist. We checked.)

MarketWatch columnist Jeff Reeves howls in confirmation that “collapsing pensions will fuel America’s next financial crisis.”

“This is not a distant concern,” warns he, “but a system already in crisis.”

According to data supplied by the Federal Reserve, pensions — public and private combined — were roughly 27% underfunded at the end of last year.

By some estimates, America’s public pensions alone are sunk in a $6 trillion abyss.

The issue, approached from any direction, is an impossible knot… a tar pit… a minotaur’s maze of blind alleys and dead ends.

How has the American pension come to such an estate?

Most public pension systems were built upon the sunny assumption that their investments will yield a handsome 7.5% annual return.

Gary Sinise To Receive Prestigious Military Honor

Actor Gary Sinise has received one of the highest military honors that a civilian can earn.

Sinise, an actor best known for his roles in "Forrest Gump" and "CSI: NY," has become well known for his support of the armed forces. Since portraying wounded Vietnam veteran Lt. Dan in "Forrest Gump," Sinise has developed a bond with disabled and wounded veterans across not only the country, but the world.

According to the Independent Journal Review, Sinise formed the Lt. Dan Band following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. His band provides American troops with entertainment while they serve their country.

Sinise also created the Gary Sinise Foundation, which aims to help first responders and military personnel through education, entertainment, financial aid and therapy. Through his foundation, Sinise has launched programs such as R.I.S.E., which builds homes adapted for severely wounded veterans; Soaring Valor, which gives World War II veterans the gift of a trip to pay their respects at the National Museum in New Orleans; and Relief & Resiliency Outreach, which provides support for veterans recovering from trauma.

Media's worst nightmare: a successful Donald Trump presidency

As the president seizes on policy wins and seeks to turn the Russia spotlight on Obama and the press, some experts say liberals are in for a rude awakening.

Sgt Michael Verardo, who lost an arm and a leg while serving with the US army in Afghanistan in 2010, says he was failed by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). He had to wait 57 days to get his prosthetic leg fixed and three and a half years for adaptations to his home. But then came Donald Trump.

“Thank you, President Trump and [Veterans Affairs] Secretary [David] Shulkin for ensuring that we are not forgotten and that we will receive the care we need and deserve,” Verardo said at the White House recently.

Trump, signing an act to protect VA whistleblowers, revelled in the moment, using his fingers to mime a gun and mouthing his catchphrase “You’re fired!” at Shulkin. Then he smiled: “We will never use those words on you, that’s for sure.”

The audience in the East Room laughed dutifully. This is the parallel universe that Trump occupies whenever he can, a universe of achievements, applause and adoration, a safe space where he is monarch of all he surveys and his punchlines land. In his version of Washington, he is the Henry V-style man of action to Barack Obama’s indecisive, cripplingly intellectual Hamlet.

Politics, after all, is often a battle of perceptions. Niall Ferguson, a British historian and senior fellow at the Hoover Institution in Stanford, California, said in May: “I think one of the things Guardian readers, and their counterparts on the American coasts, don’t want to think about is the possibility that despite his obvious ineptitude, Trump might actually be successful.

“I said last summer to a bunch of liberal friends: ‘Your worst nightmare is not a Trump presidency; it’s a successful Trump presidency.’ The successful Trump presidency scenario is one in which, despite it all, the economy does better thanks to deregulation and tax cuts, foreign policy delivers some big wins on North Korea, the Middle East.

Hungarian PM: The European Multicultural Experiment 'Has Utterly Failed'

Orban refuses to bow to EU, Soros pressure

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban declared that multiculturalism in Europe “has utterly failed” and that Hungary will not be bullied into destructive EU immigration policies in a rousing speech to the Fidesz Party, which he currently spearheads.

During a party function in Budapest this week, Orban reinforced the positions for which he is well known: secure national borders, zero tolerance for illegal immigration, defense of Hungarian culture and“Christian civilization,” stiff criticism of the EU’s globalist agenda, and a commitment to battling Hungarian-born international mobster and financial terrorist, George Soros.

“No one can command any nation who should live in their own country, this can only be the sovereign decision of nations,” he said, referring to harassment from the European Union and its most powerful member states, like Germany and France, who are applying immense pressure upon Hungary to accept migrant resettlement ‘quotas.’ “There is almost complete consensus that the independence of our economy and our migration policy must be protected from interference by Brussels.”

Shadow President? Obama Meets With South Korean President To Discuss Trump

The meeting came after Obama spoke at the Asian Leadership Conference and the Fourth Congress of Indonesian Diaspora in Jakarta. There he attacked Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris climate change accord.

The former president had said before leaving office that he appreciated his predecessor George W. Bush’s silence during his tenure, but also contended that he’s “still a citizen and that carries with it duties and obligations.”

Oregon House Democrats pass bill providing free abortions for all

An Oregon bill requiring health insurers to provide their customers with free abortions — including illegal immigrants — has advanced to the state Senate after winning approval in the state House with no Republican votes.

House Democrats pushed through the Reproductive Health Equity Act after a nearly two-hour debate over the bill, which would allocate $10.2 million for services related to contraception, sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy, including vasectomies and abortions, in the 2017-19 budget period.

About $500,000 would be earmarked for the Oregon Health Plan, the state’s Medicaid program, for the estimated 22,873 women who would be eligible “except for their immigration status.”

Democrats control both the Oregon House and Senate, while Democrat Kate Brown serves as governor.

The World Is Now $217,000,000,000,000 In Debt And The Global Elite Like It That Way

The borrower is the servant of the lender, and through the mechanism of government debt virtually the entire planet has become the servants of the global money changers. Politicians love to borrow money, but over time government debt slowly but surely impoverishes a nation. As the elite get governments around the globe in increasing amounts of debt, those governments must raise taxes in order to keep servicing those debts. In the end, it is all about taking money from us and transferring it into government pockets, and then taking money from government pockets and transferring it into the hands of the elite. It is a game that has been going on for generations, and it is time for humanity to say that enough is enough.

According to the Institute of International Finance, global debt has now reached a new all-time record high of 217 trillion dollars

Global debt levels have surged to a record $217 trillion in the first quarter of the year. This is 327 percent of the world’s annual economic output (GDP), reports the Institute of International Finance (IIF).

The surging debt was driven by emerging economies, which have increased borrowing by $3 trillion to $56 trillion. This amounts to 218 percent of their combined economic output, five percentage points greater year on year.

Never before in human history has our world been so saturated with debt.

Republican Gridlock Over Repealing ObamaCare

Republicans hold majorities in both houses of Congress and a Republican sits in the White House. Yet there is still delay and gridlock in the attempt to repeal and replace ObamaCare. Part of the problem is that, once again, Republicans are far too easily manipulated by Democrats’ class warfare mantra of “benefit cuts for the poor to pay for tax cuts for the rich.” Democrats and their Leftmedia colluders continuously conflate welfare with rights, and Republicans are seemingly unable to expose the inherent fallacy of that argument. Even more frustrating is that Democrats aren’t doing anything new, and still Republicans can’t seem to get past it.

Liberty, the foundational principle upon which this nation was founded, recognizes innate, God-given human rights. Rights as opposed to welfare. Liberty both offers and requires the individual to make choices — the consequences of which, whether good or bad, the individual is responsible for. Welfare seeks to protect individuals from the consequences of their poor and foolish choices. Essentially, welfare demands that the responsible pay for the irresponsible, which robs both individuals of their right of Liberty.

Democrats created the concept of welfare equaling “rights” by conditioning people to believe that they are helpless to help themselves and therefore the government must provide welfare programs as a means of protecting human “rights.” Nothing could be further from the truth.

The Danger of Obedience: Fake Police Crime Spree

The police do not care about keeping you safe. If they did, they wouldn’t put innocent people in danger every day by driving unmarked cars, behaving unprofessionally, and performing no-knock raids. All these things make it quite easy to impersonate an officer in order to commit a crime.

People know their lives are literally in jeopardy if they disobey even the most minor order from a police officer. Innocent people are no exception, and simply questioning an officer, or asserting one’s rights has gotten people beaten, arrested, and even killed.

Because of this environment created by an overbearing oppressive police state, a perfect opportunity has opened up for criminals to easily exploit their victim’s fear of police. Criminals simply need to pose as police, and any resistance on the part of their victims melts away.

Posing as Cops to Commit Crimes

It’s not just for big heists like in the movie The Town that criminals dress as police to commit crimes. It actually happens terrifyingly often.

The practice is so common in Miami-Dade that the police have a special task force to investigate instances of criminals impersonating officers. A family in Miami-Dade earlier this year suffered a home invasion after they opened their door to three men in police uniforms.

Last year in Tampa a 28-year old woman was pulled over by a fake officer and raped.

"From Horrific To Catastrophic": Court Ruling Sends Illinois Into Financial Abyss

First Maine, then Connecticut, and finally late on Friday, confirming the worst case outcome many had expected, Illinois entered its third straight fiscal year without a budget as Republican Governor Bruce Rauner and Democratic lawmakers failed to agree on how to compromise over the government’s chronic deficits, pushing it closer toward becoming the first junk-rated U.S. state.

By the end of Friday - the last day of the fiscal year - Illinois legislators failed to enact a budget, and while negotiations continued amid some glimmers of hope and lawmakers planned to meet over the weekend, the failure marked a continuation of the historic impasse that’s left Illinois without a full-year budget since mid-2015, and which, recall, S&P warned one month ago will likely result in a humiliating and unprecedented downgrade of the 5th most populous US state to junk status.

Then came the begging.

According to Bloomberg, on Friday Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, a Democrat who controls much of the legislative agenda, pleaded with rating companies to "temporarily withhold judgment” as lawmakers negotiate. “Much work remains to be done,” the Democrat said on the floor of the House Friday, before the chamber adjourned for the day. “We’ll get the job done.”

Meanwhile, the state remains without a spending plan, its tax receipts and outlays mostly on "autopilot", leaving it with a record $15 billion of unpaid bills as it spent over $6 billion more than it brought in over the past year, and with $800 million in interest on the unpaid bills alone. The impasse has devastated social-service providers, shuttering services for the homeless, disabled and poor. The lack of state aid has wrecked havoc on universities, putting their accreditation at risk.

Ron Paul: We Must Declare Independence

As Independence Day comes around again we should spend a few moments between barbecue and fireworks to think about the meaning of independence. The colonists who rebelled against the British Crown were, among other things, unhappy about taxation. Yet, as economist Gary North points out, the total burden of British imperial taxation was about one-to-two percent of national income.

Some 241 years later, Washington claims more of our money as its own than King George could have ever imagined. What do we get in this bargain? We get a federal government larger and more oppressive than before 1776, a government that increasingly views us as the enemy.

Think about NSA surveillance. As we have learned from brave whistleblowers like William Binney and Edward Snowden, the US intelligence community is not protecting us from foreigners who seek to destroy our way of life. The US intelligence community is itself destroying our way of life. Literally every one of our electronic communications is captured and stored in vast computer networks. Perhaps they will be used against “dissidents” in the future who question government tyranny.

What Makes America Different?

“Elizabeth,” I asked this morning as my wife climbed out of the pool. “How would you describe that sea turtle we saw on the beach?”

Pausing for a moment, she replied, “Rotating its slow and majestic flippers, it ground its way slowly and inexorably toward China…”

The sea turtle was headed east. Whether China was its destination or not, I don’t know. I only know that it was about to leave the Latin America isthmus, from the west coast of Nicaragua, and put out to sea when a muscular, brown young man picked it up and carried it back up on the beach. He and his friends had dug a big hole in the sand where the turtle was placed.

At night, we often see the dim light of flashlights along the beach. “It’s the locals looking for turtle eggs,” Manuel explained. “It’s illegal to take them, but…” Manuel shrugged his shoulders.

Sea turtles are protected by international convention. But here in the wilds of Nicaragua, they still end up in the soup from time to time.
Not the Same America

This is America, too… but it is not the same America. It is the New World… but not as new as the world north of the Rio Grande. Here, the Old World has not yet been snuffed out. It survives in a semitropical paradise.

But the object of our attention today is neither the Old World nor the new one – but the ever-changing, never fully explored idea of America.

“Proud to be an American,” says one bumper sticker. “One nation – indivisible,” says another. America was, of course, founded on the opposite principle… the idea that people were free to separate themselves from a parent government whenever they felt they had come of age. But no fraud, no matter how stupendous, is so obvious as to be detected by the average American. That is America’s great strength… or its most serious weakness.

Illinois House Approves Historic 32% Tax Increase, Governor Vows Veto

With Illinois, which on Saturday morning entered its third fiscal year without a budget, facing a catastrophic downgrade, late on Sunday evening the Illinois House approved the most controversial element of a budget package, a tax hike which will increase the income tax rate by 32% from 3.75% to 4.95%, and the corporate income tax rate from 5.25% to 7%, to try and end a historic budget impasse. The bill passed 72-45. The House also approved a $36 billion spending plan minutes later on a 81-34 vote. According to the Sun Times,it cleared an initial hurdle on Friday with 23 Republicans voting “yes.”

“While no one could say this was an easy decision, it was the right decision,” House Speaker Mike Madigan said after the spending bill vote. “There is more work to be done.” Dems said they would work with Republicans on other resolution of other issues on table.

The proposed tax increase will now head back to the Illinois Senate, which approved a revenue bill on May 23 with all Democratic votes as part of its “grand bargain” package. But Governor Bruce Rauner has said he’ll only support an income tax hike if it’s limited to four years and paired with a four-year property tax freeze. He’s also still seeking changes in workers’ compensation and pensions.

Commenting on the just passed House bill, Rauner said he’ll veto the revenue bill.

“I will veto Mike Madigan’s permanent 32% tax hike. Illinois families don’t deserve to have more of the hard-earned money taken from them when the legislature has done little to restore confidence in government or grow jobs,” Rauner said.

“Illinois families deserve more jobs, property tax relief and term limits. But tonight they got more of the same." He also said in an emailed statement that “if the legislature is willing to pass the largest tax hike in state history with no reforms, then we must engage citizens and redouble our efforts to change the state."

Some commentators promptly countered that Rauner's veto will likely be overriden.

Flushed contraceptives turning fish transgender

Displaying feminized traits, even producing eggs

A fifth of male fish are now transgender because of chemicals from the contraceptive pill being flushed down household drains, a study by has suggested.

Male river fish are displaying feminised traits and even producing eggs, the study found. Some have reduced sperm quality and display less aggressive and competitive behaviour, which makes them less likely to breed successfully.

The chemicals causing these effects include ingredients in the contraceptive pill, by-products of cleaning agents, plastics and cosmetics, according to the findings.

Which Fireworks Are Legal In My State?

This holiday weekend is a long one, giving people everywhere ample opportunity to stock up on all manner of fireworks from not-at-all sketchy roadside vendors conveniently situated near the state border. But are you actually allowed to set off those Big Bang Boomers and Star Spangled ‘Splosions, or are you limited to staring into the glinting abyss of a sparkler, hoping to recapture the simple joys of youth?

As usual, that largely depends on where you live.

There are two rules — conveniently both on the same page of the Code of Federal Regulations — that govern fireworks on a nationwide level.

The first rule — Title 16, Part 1500.17(a)(3) for those keeping track — prohibits: “Fireworks devices intended to produce audible effects (including but not limited to cherry bombs, M-80 salutes, silver salutes, and other large firecrackers, aerial bombs, and other fireworks designed to produce audible effects, and including kits and components intended to produce such fireworks) if the audible effect is produced by a charge of more than 2 grains of pyrotechnic composition.”

Why this 4th of July is Special

By Thornton Crowe

A year ago today, we were living in a very dangerous time - almost ready to charge into the depths of the abyss for which there would be no return...

We have much to be thankful for this 4th of July as we look through the wayback machine to a year ago, when our country was in some dangerous peril -- the possibility of a Hillary Clinton presidency. Sure, there's some who thought that would be a brilliant idea but for many who lived (and remembered) the Clinton years in the Nineties, this was a horrific thought indeed. So needless to say, some of us were more than a bit trepidatious about what we would face come November 9th.

I guess one could say, we were saved by a Divine intervention we'll never fully be able to explain or understand - but whatever the case, we averted a most assured disaster: the charge towards full globalism. This collision course we were on was an insult to the very fiber of our country and everything she stands for. In fact, it spits in the face of every person who ever fought for this country -- on the battlefield, in the corporate/business world and even those crazy 1776 kids who in Philadelphia 241 years ago, signed that important document we celebrate today.

More assured, we will have moments of turmoil in spite of our victorious citizen rebellion. Every moment since the election has contained a mixture of fear and excitement - like a rollercoaster at Six Flags, but this is what life is really all about and what makes it so fascinatingly wonderful. It fills you with anticipation which propels you forward to new vistas where you never thought you'd ever go -- much like those great patriots embarked over two centuries ago.

Our President isn't perfect - one can even make a case that he's far from eloquent on most days. He's brazen, unyielding and sometimes downright belligerent with those who are generating fake news and other fodder. However, one thing we do know for a fact - he actually loves our country and seeks to preserve it in any way possible. You may not always love his tweets or the brash way he gets his message across - you can't help love the message behind the message. Like him or hate him: President Trump loves America - and this is undisputed fact.

There's a sincerity and enthusiasm within Donald Trump that we've not seen in a long time. To many whom don't remember Ronald Reagan, the sentiment throughout the country is one of hope (again.) We're now enjoying a resurgence of patriotism that's lasted more than just the week following 9/11.

We were lucky, my fellow Americans. Very lucky. So, even if you're not one for pray, it might not bad be a bad idea to take a moment of silent gratitude because we came much closer to the razor's edge than most probably realize.

In short, we avoided unadulterated lunacy re-entering our White House, bent on continuing her firesale of America (and us) at the expense of our property, liberty and freedom. For this alone, I am truly truly grateful -- even if it comes with all the spills, chills and flat out craziness proffered by the CNN/Liberal hoobastank.

Yes, we have much to be thankful for and our celebration is well deserved... so enjoy your 4th everyone and have a safe finish to this most excellent holiday.

Here's to another year making America great again; or should I say, rediscovering what made America great in the first place! And with that, I remain,

Sincerely your friend & fellow patriot,
Thornton

PS: And to all those who said a year ago, "Impossible, Thornton, the fix is in... Trump will never win." My retort to you is simple: "Ye have little faith and I. Told. Ya. So!" -- TC

Pin Drop

JFK'S Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early 60's when DeGaulle decided to pull out of NATO. DeGaulle said he wanted all US military out of France as soon as possible.

Rusk responded, "Does that include those who are buried here?"

DeGaulle did not respond.

When in England , at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of 'empire building' by George Bush.

He answered by saying,
"Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return
is enough to bury those that did not return."

There was a conference in France where a number of international engineers were taking part, including French and American.
During a break, one of the French engineers came back into the room saying, "Have you heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done?
He has sent an aircraft carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he intend to do, bomb them?"

A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: "Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to feed 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand gallons of fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry half a dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and from their flight deck. We have eleven such ships;how many does France have?"

A U.S. Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference
that included Admirals from the U.S., English, Canadian, Australian and French Navies At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large group of officers that included personnel from most of those countries. Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks, but a French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked, "Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than speaking French?"

Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied,
"Maybe it's because the Brit's, Canadians, Aussie's and Americans
arranged it so you wouldn't have to speak German."

AND THIS STORY FITS RIGHT IN WITH THE ABOVE..

Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane. At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry on.

"You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked sarcastically.

Mr. Whitingadmitted that he had been to France previously.

"Then you should know enough to have your passport ready."

The American said, "The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it."

"Impossible.. Americans always have to show their passports on
arrival in France !"

The American seniorgave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then, he quietly explained, ''Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in 1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn't find a single Frenchman to show a passport to."

Study: More Men Hired in Gender-Blind Job Application Process

An initiative by the leaders of Australian Public Service to promote gender equality through blind recruitment efforts has failed, according to reports.

The trial, which was an effort to push more women in senior position jobs, revealed that removing the gender from a candidate’s application does not help boost gender equality in hiring. The trial also revealed that adding a male name to a candidate’s application made them 3.2 percent less likely to get the job while adding a female name made it 2.9 percent more likely that the candidate would be hired.

Researchers assumed that removing gender identifiers from an application would make it easier for women to obtain employment in senior positions that have traditionally been dominated by men.
