Winning cartoon from ‘draw Muhammad’ contest could end up in Metro stations, on buses

The organizer of a contest that offered a $10,000 prize to the best cartoon depicting the prophet Muhammad, is now pushing to have the winning entry displayed in Metro stations and on buses around the D.C. region.

Metro officials said they are considering the request by Pamela Geller, head of the American Freedom Defense Initiative, a group that has for years garnered headlines for controversial anti-Muslim ads it has paid to have displayed in transit systems across the country, including here in Washington.

AFDI made headlines earlier this month after two men were shot and killed outside the building where the art exhibit and cartoon contest was being held in Texas.
