As a group of angry bikers smashed a New York dad’s car window, yanked him from the vehicle and beat him, an off-duty NYPD undercover officer stood by so he didn’t “blow his cover,”according to the New York Post.
Citing a number of law enforcement sources, the Post reports the unidentified “narcotics officer” came forward on Wednesday night, four days after the beating that left Alexian Lien bloodied on the ground as his family watched in horror from their black Range Rover.
“It is does not appear that he got involved at the scene,” one law enforcement source said of the off-duty cop. More
undercover in the bike gang or U/C for something else if he was undercover for something else the cop should have done something BC his biker buidys F ed up.
Only a cop could think that watching a citizen get slashed and beaten in front of his wife and baby while he remained "undercover" was the right thing to do. If the man was stabbed to death? No problem. All a part of "protecting and serving". Keeping citizens safe, and all that....just like I said -- the USED to give THEIR lives protecting the community. Now, they prefer give YOUR life....
If he was really undercover why did he wait four days to report this. He should have immediately reported to his superior and given a statement about what he witnessed.
The oath doesn't say to serve and protect unless I'm undercover. How would you like your wife and child being murdered in front of a cop .just to find out he could've stopped it but chose not to ?
Was he "undercover" or just a member of a group of thugs... If he was undercover he already had PLENTY of evidence to have them all arrested and held on all sorts of violations.
At least one undercover police officer was riding with the group. He reportedly did not intervene to stop the beating and waited days to come forward. His actions are being investigated by the New York Police Department's Internal Affairs Bureau.
He did the right thing by not blowing his cover. The big picture is that he may be working on a case to take down multiple members of this group or the whole group for felony charges and not just for an assault. Motorcycle gangs are notorious for gun and drug distribution.
The only situation a undercover officer is forced to blown his cover is if he knows about a premeditated murder.

You don't work yourself into a situation, to simply blow your cover for minor gains. If that was the case, there would never be a reason for undercover officers.

I was just wondering how far an undercover would go before he stepped in. I was thinking that the bigger picture would be that a family fearing for their lives would bring a different response from the undercover. What if they were being killed? Thanks to 4:04 my question was answered without insult....they only intervene if there is premeditation of murder.
But it took him FOUR days to admit he was there? And he didn't even bother to call 911? And there even be more under rocks, er cover, cops in that group?
I can understand not wanting to blow his cover, but he could have done SOMETHING to tone it down or end it.
But why wait to follow his OWN dept. policy of reporting he was there? Because he knew he was wrong? He would blow his cover to his dept.?
He, and others if there where any, better have some damn good reasons. No free pass on this one.
get the story straight, there were no less than 5 or 6 cops were all taking part in that little motorcycle ride. And everyone of them should be fired for not only endangering the public, not only for standing by and letting the family be terrorized but they really ought to be fired for being such freaking stupid idiots for even participating in something like that! don't worry though they are protecting us! just ask them!
So what? If he had come forward at the time he could have put many more lives in danger. He did the right thing.
