Today I celebrate my 7th month of living in Downtown Salisbury as a Maryland resident. It's hard to believe so much time has passed so quickly.
I am doing and have done what it takes to be qualified as a Salisbury resident to run for Mayor. I have shared many different ideas through Salisbury News as to what I feel can better our City by improving our way of life as well as a better working environment.
While my ideas are a complete 180 degrees from the current Mayor's ideas, I believe this is exactly what the citizens need to make a solid choice as to who they'd like as their next Mayor.
One of the things you'll hear quite often from me over the next few months is, If your happy with the way things have been going for the past 16 years, I encourage you to please vote for Jim Ireton, should he choose to actually run again.
On the other hand, if your not happy with your property taxes, your property value, Fire Boat, for lease and for sale signs everywhere, parking meters and fines Downtown, 500 section 8 and affordable housing units Downtown, slacking and amateur Downtown Revitalization plan, jobs, you'll vote for me.
One question I'm asked frequently is, why haven't you filed yet. The answer is easy. The moment I file is the moment I pretty much have to stop discussing any and all campaign strategies on Salisbury News. I will wait for the very last moment before I file because I strongly believe I am not going to get a fair shake with the local Media and I'm confident all of you will agree. However, if you think for a second that I have not been serious over the last 7 months as well as the months to come, who in their right mind, (without a goal like this) would leave their Wife and Family to do so. Of course I'm serious. Of course I fully plan on running for Mayor and I fully plan to win.
While it has been a major adjustment in all of our lives, my Family knows from past business experience I can turn Salisbury around. Together, with your vote, WE can truly make it happen.
Remember: "This isn't Joe Albero's election to lose, it's the citizens' election to lose".
Thanks for doing this Joe.
ReplyDeleteI agree. You have my vote. Ireton has been a waste of time.
ReplyDeleteNoted in the DT ads today a position offered as Mayor's assistant. Sounds like a job for Sara Lake.
ReplyDeleteI believe in you Joe.
ReplyDeleteJust like every person who runs for office, only say what people want to hear to get votes...
ReplyDeleteIts agreed that someone other than Ireton needs to be in office... However, honestly with all the corruption everywhere, and with the states making county and city pay for everything the state does, What exactly do you think you can change? You know a lot of this problem is caused by the state not just the city or county and the like...
I offered solutions to fix the paving issues and people dismissed it, so if they can dismiss something this huge, what makes you think they won't dismiss something on a smaller scale?
I put my life on the fact that you can lower the cost of paving roads with only 4 men and seasonal upkeep on the equipment for cheap, yet no one takes it serious... As are roads fall apart whilst they pave new ones somewhere else to nowhere...
All your plans are for the downtown, who gives a shit, downtown is dead and won't come back...
And it doesn't help that everyone keeps raising their prices for crap down here too, you know LIKE THE DELI... now $9 for a sub you can get anywhere for half that and for the same quality... That right there shows NO ONE CAN MAKE IT DOWN HERE....
Why do you have to stop discussing your cool ideas? It would seem that would the time to start sharing them even more.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Joe, just Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteJoe For Mayor!
ReplyDeleteThank you for trying to make a difference.
ReplyDeleteChange is coming it just has too.
ReplyDeleteIf Jim is smart he will not run.
ReplyDeleteanonymous 9:09, Hmmmm, so you think I'm saying things just to get votes, eh?
ReplyDeleteWell, let me say this. I have a LOT better things to do with my time than to be the next Mayor for $25,000.00 a year. THINK before you speak.
I would much rather be with my Wife and Grandson 7 days a week than moving many of my things to Salisbury for a $25,000.00 a year job.
However, there comes a time in life when you have to put up or shut up. Unlike so many others who talk crap, I'm putting it all on the line for the good of the people. IF you don't like my ideas/visions, don't vote for me. It really is that simple. And remember, it's not only ME that has sacrificed. My Wife and Grandson believe in what I'm/we're doing.
We now have TWO gas and electric bills. TWO grocery store bills. The list goes on and on. So NO, I'm not ever going to tell you want you want to hear. I'm going to tell you my ideas because I believe in them. IF YOU would like to tweak ANY of these ideas to make them better, well, guess what, I'm here to listen.
Downtown is NOT dead, not at all. Try renting an apartment Downtown. Try looking for Office space. It's slim picking because people are living and working Downtown. Come here after 5 PM and see it for yourself.
By the way, if you think I'd be corrupt, well, you obviously don't know me very well, do you. I'm the guy who's been EXPOSING the corruption for the past 7 years. In fact, I've been sued three times because I exposed things others didn't like exposed.
If I get elected, fantastic. If I don't get elected, fantastic. I'll do a better job as your next Mayor than anyone has ever seen.
By the way, I have talked a LOT about the Downtown area. I firmly believe, no matter what, Downtown Salisbury is here to stay. Some of you have suggested we bulldoze it all. That's just stupid and it can't be done. More importantly, Salisbury is one of the biggest Cities on the Eastern Shore and should be setting examples and not falling behind a small Town like Berlin.
We have so much potential it isn't funny. Now, since we can tear everything down and the Downtown is vital to ALL of Salisbury, I want to revitalize it and make every one proud of Salisbury again. No matter what you say, we can revitalize it and make it vibrant all over again. Once that is done, people will come in the thousands each day to visit and shop there.
As for the roads and paving, you're right. Salisbury needs a LOT of work there. All of my energy will not be spent on Downtown but I will not lie, a LOT of my time and energy will be spent on the Downtown Revitalization planning. I will NOT be a part time Mayor. I will be a full time Mayor. I will guarantee you 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, (at least).
In closing, I'm not desperate for a $25,000.00 a year job. And I certainly wouldn't take on double bills/expenses for more than a year before I'm even considered for that job.
I meant to say, Now, since we can't tear everything down and the Downtown is vital to ALL of Salisbury,
ReplyDeleteJoe, would you do anything about the criminals watching criminals in the county jail? do you think you could do anything with wcdc as mayor. the mayor has never been there.
ReplyDeleteA non Traditional candidate I like that!
ReplyDeletePlease do something about trash pick up Downtown for the residence's.
ReplyDeleteI am glad to here you are serious about the race. You got vote!
ReplyDeleteAre you scheduling a Meet and Greet soon?
ReplyDeleteWe know it is a sacrifice Joe. But we so enjoy having you Downtown. And we will continue to enjoy you for the next two years. You are the next Mayor!
ReplyDeleteanonymous 9:59, that is not a City issue.
ReplyDeleteanonymous 10:09, I have been asking the Mayor and Council to work on that for at least 6 years now. Believe me, something will get done about it once I'm Mayor.
anonymous 10:22, we do plan on a few meet and greets in the near future.
Do you still have t-shirt?
ReplyDeleteanonymous 10:59, yes, I still have tee shirts.
ReplyDeleteI am moving away from the eastern shore but i look forward to seeing how things develop for the next few years. I have live here my entire life but feel that there is just nothing here. Hopefully things will change and i look forward to visiting a thriving downtown in the future. :-)
ReplyDeleteWho decorated that apartment. It looks beautiful. My husband and I are voting for you Joe.
ReplyDeleteI have heard there is office space for rent in Chesapeake East for about $150/month. Any truth to that?
ReplyDeleteYour visions can move us in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteWe need to get rid of the good old boy network!
ReplyDeleteIt was great seeing on 3rd Friday.
ReplyDeleteAnyone willing to stick there neck out like you have has my vote!
ReplyDeleteJoe I think you capturing the younger vote. I have heard several young adults talk about it.
ReplyDeleteI am undecided but the more I hear from you the more I like it.
ReplyDeleteJoe....good work...good luck...the citizens I speak to LOVE the idea of you being mayor. I hope you "knock it (the election) outta the park"....
