Salisbury City Council Majority Votes Out Lord's Prayer AND Pledge of Allegiance
Councilwoman Debbie Campbell was the ONLY Council Member to vote NO. Other Council Members stated that at least it wouldn't be removed completely.
Say goodbye to America as we always knew it Folks. Knowing that Julie Brewington was there, I'm sure she was ecstatic about the removal of the Lord's Prayer, since she can't recite it anyway, proven with her performance (or lack thereof) of such at the beginning of an AFP meeting last year.
I hope Mayor Ireton is proud of his participation and the screen he threw out there tonight with a prayer vigil. You truly have to wonder, just where are we headed any more.
Publishers Notes: I made a mistake above. Julie Brewington forgot the words to the Pledge of Allegiance, not the Lords Prayer. My apologies to Julie. ;-)
Big Budget Lies
I am sick of the class warfare demagouging. I am tired of hearing about "shared sacrifice" to pay for Obama's 24% increase in discretionary government spending. I am tired of the demonizing of corporate jets from a President who runs around the world at my expense on Air Force One. And I am disgusted that every form of domestic energy development has been hindered by this administration while American Oil Companies are targeted because they receive the same "subsidy" for depreciation awarded all businesses. Clearly, liberals believe that everything belongs to the government and anything we are allowed to keep is a "tax break" or a "tax expenditure".
Mayors Prayer Vigil Is A Flop
Clearly Mayor Ireton has absolutely NO following and the planned stunt flopped right in his face, again.
Breaking News: Tim Spies and Shanie Shields just arrived.
UPDATE: Debbie Campbell, Kris Adams and Julie Brewington also showed up.

U.N. To Seize Jerusalem From Israel On July 11th, 26th
The "Quartet" of USA, Russia, EU, and UN has scheduled July 11th in DC, and the United Nations Security Council has scheduled July 26th in New York, for open "debate" about whether or not they will seize Israeli land in September, and divide Jerusalem by establishing a Palestinian state, without negotiation or approval from Israel.
Haaretz newspaper reported Wednesday, "The UN Security Council plans to discuss in July [on the 26th] the possibility of Palestine becoming a United Nations member state, the Security Council president said on Tuesday. The Arab League has said it would request UN membership for a Palestinian state in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, with East Jerusalem as its capital at the UN General Assembly in September."
Only the U.N. Security Council (seen right-->) can vote to recognize new nations, and move borders. It is composed of 15 member nations among which only 5 have veto authority: USA, Britain, France, China, and Russia.
"An upcoming Quartet meeting [is] a possible indicator on the situation," reported Haaretz. "The Quartet of Middle East peace negotiators...are expected to meet July 11th. The meeting, expected to take place in Washington, will come amid a U.S. push to revive peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians."
The fact any debate will occur on 11 or 26 July confirms a big U.N. vote will occur in September, and if President Obama's U.N. delegation fails to veto, Israel will forfeit half its land and Jerusalem will become the Muslim capitol of the new state of Palestine.
President Obama has recently signaled that the U.S. may not veto such a land-grab, as Abbas said last week on Lebanese TV, quote: "President Obama says he wants to see an independent Palestinian state by September." No wonder Abbas met with PLO leaders and decided to seize the moment, and East Jerusalem with it.
Israel would likely not recognize such a vote, and refuse to forfeit their land. Palestinians will declare independence and start a war in September, with the whole world against Israel. Except us. We must awaken the U.S. Congress to defend Israel now.
A pro-Israel U.S. Congressman has introduced a brand new law to de-fund the United Nations if they dare to seize Israeli land, or if President Obama fails to veto any Palestinian land-grab of Jerusalem without permission from Israel.

Does Government Matter?
Washington's fight over the debt ceiling has obscured a larger reality: Government has lost its ability to influence the economy
As Americans celebrate the 235th anniversary of their independence, the country is embroiled in a typically noisy debate. This time, the argument centers around whether Congress should raise the ceiling on national debt in the interest of preventing a potential government default. The issue has proved to be partisan catnip. The GOP opposes any new taxes to pay down the U.S. debt, which is close to 95 percent of the country’s gross domestic product, on the basis that government has created this problem and that more government cannot be the answer. The U.S. debt burden, House Speaker John Boehner says, “can be traced to a misguided belief by politicians that the American economy is something that can be … influenced positively by government intervention and borrowing.”Republicans want deep cuts in government spending to be part of any deal to raise the debt ceiling. Democrats counter that such measures would imperil the recovery. And they insist that robust government remains a key element of future growth. “We can’t cut our way to prosperity,” President Barack Obama recently said.
Government as the problem, government as a solution: The impasse over the debt is new, but the debate is old. From the Progressive Era of the late 19th century through the laissez-faire of the 1920s, from the New Deal and the Great Society to Ronald Reagan’s declaration that “government is the problem,” perhaps the only thing the left and the right have agreed on is that government matters. Liberals believe that if government does its job well, prosperity will follow. Conservatives argue that good government is less government, but they are no less obsessed with the role that Washington plays. Our entire political and economic debate takes place in the context of a shared assumption that government determines the nation’s collective economic success or failure, either because of the harm it does or because of the good.
But what if this assumption is wrong? What if government is neither a solution nor a problem? What if, when it comes to dealing with the economic challenges facing the U.S. today, government actually doesn’t matter?

Malls Even More Vacant Than They Were 3 Months Ago
Following a first quarter of 2011 that saw mall vacancies rise to 9.1 percent, the second quarter was no kinder, with the vacancy rate inching up to 9.3 percent. Strip malls are having an even tougher time keeping tenants, with 11 percent of storefronts sitting empty.
Reuters relays the bleak numbers — the highest since 1990 — from Reis, a real estate research firm. Says a Reis senior economist:
Even though we've been out of a recession for two years, there aren't a lot of jobs out there, and people are still risk adverse. That's depressing demand for both retail goods and retail space.
What stores have disappeared from your malls?
Secondhand Smoke Boosts Kids' ADHD, Learning Disability Risks
The study, conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Center for Health Statistics, estimates that nearly 5 million children younger than 12 are exposed to secondhand smoke at home and up to 8% of them – or more than 274,000 children – suffer from learning disabilities, ADHD and other behavioral disorders.

U.S. Holding Millions In Aid To Pakistan, Says Obama's Chief Of Staff
Appearing on ABC's "This Week," White House Chief of Staff William Daley confirmed a report in the New York Times that the aid was being withheld.
While Pakistan has "been an important ally in the fight on terrorism," Daley said, "now they've taken some steps that have given us reason to pause on some of the aid which we're giving to the military, and we're trying to work through that."

Reporter Suzanne Collins Sends In This Message To Salisbury News
I am Senator Nancy Jacobs' Chief of Staff, Suzanne Collins. Lets start with anonymity. If you want to criticize give your name or your motive becomes suspect. As a reporter for nearly 30 years in Maryland prior to this position, I ran into several cases in which a "Caylee's Law" could apply. Even in Anne Arundel County in recent years a man buried his dead son who died of illness and told no one. When the remains were found it became a huge homicide investigation until the details were uncovered. Certanly someone who kills a child and buries or disposes of the body, causing the evidence to decay, should be punished by law. Yet there is no such statute in Maryland. A child's death should be reported promptly. We are also investigating to see if requiring the dissapearance of a child in a set amount of time should be included in the bill. There have been 22 constituents who wrote Senator Jacobs in the first two days after the Anthony verdict asking that someone in Maryland not be able to get away with a "Casey Anthony" type case, going a month without reporting a dead child. There are more e-mails today. Other states are introducing similar bills including Florida, where people saw first hand why it's needed. Finally Senator Jacobs confered with a State's Attorney first to be sure it would be worthy to put on the books. The process in Annapolis allows for debate, input, voting and ammendments to prevent the state code from being filled with unnecessary laws.

Consent Of The Governed?
One question after another comes to mind. Must every person consent? If not, how many must, and what options do those who do not consent have? What form must the consent take ― verbal, written, explicit, implicit? If implicit, how is it to be registered? Given that the composition of society is constantly changing, owing to births, deaths, and international migration, how often must the rulers confirm that they retain the consent of the governed? And so on and on. Political legitimacy, it would appear, presents a multitude of difficulties when we move from the realm of theoretical abstraction to that of practical realization.
I raise this question because in regard to the so-called social contract, I have often had occasion to protest that I haven’t even seen the contract, much less been asked to consent to it. A valid contract requires voluntary offer, acceptance, and consideration. I’ve never received an offer from my rulers, so I certainly have not accepted one; and rather than consideration, I have received nothing but contempt from the rulers, who, notwithstanding the absence of any agreement, have indubitably threatened me with grave harm in the event that I fail to comply with their edicts. What monumental effrontery these people exhibit! What gives them the right to rob me and push me around? It certainly is not my desire to be a sheep for them to shear or slaughter as they deem expedient for the attainment of their own ends.
Moreover, when we flesh out the idea of “consent of the governed” in realistic detail, the whole notion quickly becomes utterly preposterous. Just consider how it would work. A would-be ruler approaches you and offers a contract for your approval. Here, says he, is the deal.

Salisbury Prayer Vigil?
Here are the quote from Salisbury Mayor Jim Ireton’s press release:
Mayor James Ireton, Jr. announces that today, Monday July 11th, a prayer vigil will be held on the front steps of the Government Office Building at 5:30 PM. Local Clergy will be on hand to pray for Salisbury and its elected officials.
I’m all for prayer. I’m totally supportive of Ireton, or any other elected official, calling our citizens to prayer.
However …
Ireton has a long record of engaging in political theater. While I certainly can’t question his faith or his religious beliefs, I find it interesting that he has chosen to call for this NOW.
It’s a lot like the little boy who cried “wolf”. Every event that Ireton orchestrates is designed for one of two goals – promoting HIS political prospects, or attacking those that he considers political enemies (or both).
Take a break Jimmy! Let it rest for a while. Then, start holding events that are designed to help the city and your constituents rather than promote yourself or detract from you opponents. Your constituents will appreciated it and your “Sincerity Score” will move above its current rock bottom levels.
Still No Deficit Reduction Agreement Between The White House And Congressional Leaders
Geithner Warns Social Security Payments At Risk
As the nation inched closer yesterday to what the White House says would be a catastrophic default on its massive debt, President Obama’s administration ratcheted up the pressure on Republicans by suggesting Social Security checks for some 55 million Americans could be in jeopardy if no deal is reached in the next three weeks.
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said his agency must borrow 40 cents of every dollar it spends and suggested that without the ability to borrow, it may not be able to deliver crucial benefits to Americans who rely on them to pay for food and other necessities.
“On August 2d, we’re left running on fumes,’’ Geithner said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.’’ “We have no capacity to borrow. . . . We have to act; Congress has to act ahead of that point. If they don’t act, then we face catastrophic damage to the American economy.’’
President Obama met with congressional leaders from both parties at the White House last night in an effort to reach a compromise to avert default on the debt. Obama and the lawmakers made no statements immediately after the meeting, but they are scheduled to meet again today.
Fascinating!!!
Florida Cyclist, Black Bear Collide
A Panama City man is recovering after colliding with a black bear while riding his bike to work.
John Hearn said he saw something out of the corner of his eye early Thursday morning. The nearly 300-pound bear smacked him off his bicycle and then fled into some nearby woods. Passing motorists stopped to help Hearn, who sustained minor injuries. The back tire of his bike was also ripped off.
Hearn, who bikes to work at Tyndall Air Force Base a few times a week, said he still plans to bike to work.
Coca-Cola Plants Living, Breathing Billboard
Advertising, especially of the outdoor variety, is often viewed as being anti-green, a signifier of befouled outdoor spaces. But this Coca-Cola billboard is trying to turn that image on its head — and sell some Coke while it's at it.
Coke recently unveiled a 60' x 60' billboard in the Philippines that uses 3,600 potted Fukien tea plants to both advertise the soda and suck in some carbon dioxide off the busiest street in Manila.
From AdAge.com:
Recycled Coca-Cola bottles were used as pots. The plants, which are potted in a mixture of industrial byproducts and organic fertilizers, are watered by an efficient drip irrigation system called trickle irrigation or micro-irrigation.
The plants each inhale about 13 pounds of carbon dioxide a year, which comes out to a total of around 128 pounds of CO2 each day for the whole billboard.

7th Grader Wins First US Spanish Spelling Bee
The first national Spanish spelling bee has been won by a seventh-grade girl from Santa Cruz, N.M.
Evelyn Juarez, of Carlos F. Vigil Middle School, won by correctly spelling the Spanish word "bizantinismo," which means excess luxury.
The runner-up, German Rojero of Los Lunas Middle School, misspelled "kanindeyuense," someone from a Paraguayan territory.
The event drew students from as far away as Oregon and Texas, though most were from New Mexico.
Organizer David Briseno, who heads New Mexico's Association for Bilingual Education, says the state has had a contest since 1994 but he had been dreaming of a national event for years.
Salisbury Is Not Business Friendly
About two months ago the Salisbury "Task Force" of about 8 or 9 people visited the facility to inspect the units, the "Task Force" said that they only come out when someone calls and makes a complaint. Later on the same day a man from the Salisbury "Health Department" also visited the facility to inspect the units, he also stated that he was there via a complaint that people were "urinating on the exterior of building"
Now what makes this interesting is that it's my understanding that these two business's have a neighbor across the street that also does auto repair and auto body work. From what I have gathered this person doesn't want the competition of the two tiny business's this close to his business and is doing everything he can do to run the little business's out and away from his business and that he is the person that made the complaints, that business is Kelley's auto body.
Fast forward to yesterday. Not hearing from the city in 2 or 3 months after their visit and assuming from what the task force said while doing their inspection, and what the health inspector said that he found nothing in violation, the two small business's thought everything was a-ok until yesterday. To their surprise a person from the city taped a bright orange piece of paper on the outside of each business and literally ran away after posting the piece of paper.
What was the bright orange paper? I'll get to that in a second. Let me explain how the building is set up. This is a large L shaped block building with nine units with six business's but only two that do auto repair.
Now to the orange piece of paper. The bright orange notice read,
Now the City of Salisbury is closing down two honest very small business's because of numerous frivolous complaints from the owner of Kelley's auto body and auto repair which is a very large business. I guess Kelley's is afraid that the two little business's will take a biscuit off his plate.
Now thanks to Salisbury the big business can have his extra biscuit and several families will not be able to feed their families.
Thanks Salisbury

Auto Bailout Chief: 'I Did This All For The Unions'
Ron Bloom, Assistant to the President for Manufacturing Policy, is quoted in a 2009 newspaper account and a 2010 book saying of the auto bailouts that he "did this all for the unions." But when Bloom appeared before the committee on June 22, he flatly denied ever saying those words.
Other White House officials have reportedly defended Bloom by suggesting that he did indeed say those words but was joking. And that has led committee chairman Rep. Darrell Issa to ask what is going on.
On November 24, 2009, Detroit News reporter David Shepardson wrote about a dinner held at Washington's Rosa Mexicano restaurant in July of that year, after GM had come out of bankruptcy. Both Bloom and Steven Rattner, the Wall Street figure who played a key role in the bailouts, spoke to the group. "Rattner praised the team's intensity and focus and said the group was among the best he had ever worked with," Shepardson reported. "Bloom, the former adviser to the United Steelworkers, joked that he 'did this all for the unions.'" (The article is not available on the paper's website, but here is a copy of it on a United Auto Workers site.)
In September 2010, Rattner published a book entitled Overhaul: An Insider's Account of the Obama Administration's Emergency Rescue of the Auto Industry. He also described the dinner at Rosa Mexicano:
"Such celebrations, I reminded my colleagues, are standard on Wall Street at the successful close of a deal. But in those victories, the objective is private gain. This victory was different. I choked up as I spoke about our commitment to quality. 'I've worked with a lot of talented people in my life but never with a group smarter or more dedicated than Team Auto,' I said. And I thanked my colleagues for the enormous sacrifices that each had made. 'In this deal, in this incarnation,' I said, 'you have epitomized what it means to serve your country.'
"Fortunately, after I spoke, Ron Bloom was there to lighten the mood. 'I did this all for the unions,' he jokingly declared. Everyone laughed and the war stories began to fly…"
The only difference between the two accounts is that Rattner says Bloom made the statement "jokingly." Readers can judge for themselves whether it was the kind of joke that is also true. But in any event, Rattner says Bloom was joking.
Fast forward to June 22. During Bloom's appearance before the Committee on Government Oversight and Reform, Republican Rep. Dan Burton asked Bloom about the dinner:
Rep. Burton: Well, did you say this at a dinner? There was a dinner and it was reported by David Shepardson, Washington correspondent for the Detroit News. At a farewell dinner of the Auto Task Force held in the restaurant Rosa Mexicano in late July 2009 that you allegedly said "I did this all for the unions."
Mr. Bloom: No I did not say that.
Rep. Burton: You didn't say that?
Mr. Bloom: No sir.
Rep. Burton: So, you were misquoted?
Mr. Bloom: That's correct.
Rep. Burton: Well, I'm going to call that guy up and ask him if you said that. You know that you are under oath here?
Mr. Bloom: I'm fully aware.
Rep. Burton: You made no comment like that at all?
Mr. Bloom: No sir.
