MAYOR IRETON: NOW HEAR THIS

Belton, Missouri declines to enter All-America City contest this year
By Allen Edmonds, The Star Herald

Despite its status as a finalist in the quest for All America City status last spring, Belton will sit out this year's competition due to the economy.

After parting ways with four employees last month and seeing Mayor’s Christmas Tree contributions plummet by some $1,500, Mayor Jimmy Odom said Monday he believes that spending money and resources on such an effort this year might send the wrong message.

"All our intentions were to apply again this year," Odom said, especially after it was announced that the competition would move from Florida to Kansas City for the next several years.

"But I asked for the city and the Vision Team to take a look at this again," in light of the worsening economic conditions.

"We just felt like it would send the wrong message to the employees that we’re asking to cut back on everything possible," and to citizens that may have lost jobs or had incomes reduced in recent months.

He said that even though the competition is being held in Kansas City, there are significant expenses involved in submitting the award application, as well as developing the presentation materials that would be used onstage at the competition.

Jim Rutledge Trusts Michael Steele

Jim Rutledge responds to unfortunate incidents at Republican National Committee. Jim Rutledge trusts Michael Steele to provide the necessary leadership to restore confidence.

FORREST Hill, Maryland
- U.S. Senate Candidate Jim Rutledge is concerned about the unfortunate events that have confronted Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele. These incidents have cast a shadow over the Republican National Committee. Jim Rutledge said, “The controversies have hurt the image of the Republican National Committee, but I believe Chairman Steele is addressing them in an appropriate manner.”

The Republican National Committee must work quickly to make whatever changes are necessary to restore confidence in the Republican Party. Strong leadership means having the ability to achieve success in a manner that is conducive to Republican Party beliefs. The unpopular liberal agenda that Barbara Mikulski and Congress are carrying out has presented an opportunity for the Republican Party to stand up and lead America in a new direction. Jim Rutledge believes the Republican Party must put forth the best conservative leadership and ideas available to provide America a strong alternative to what Washington is now offering.

Regarding the leadership of the National Republican Committee Jim Rutledge said, “Many people are asking me about what happened, and I don’t know all the facts. I do know that all this has been a distraction, and I trust Michael Steele will do the right thing.” Michael Steele is already making changes and implementing internal controls to prevent future incidents. Jim Rutledge is confident that Michael Steele and the 168 members of the Republican National Committee will act accordingly to do what is in the best interest of the Republican Party. Jim Rutledge believes the time has come to restore Ronald Reagan’s conservative values to the Republican Party and America. “Obviously mistakes were made, and Chairman Steele is working hard to correct them and put to rest any misgivings people may have about his leadership and or the Republican National Committee,” said Rutledge.

Obama Tries To Change Terrorism Rhetoric

National security document revisions are 'new beginning' with Muslim world

WASHINGTON
- President Barack Obama's advisers plan to remove terms such as "Islamic radicalism" from a document outlining national security strategy and will use the new version to emphasize that the U.S. does not view Muslim nations through the lens of terrorism, counterterrorism officials say.

The change would be a significant shift in the National Security Strategy, a document that previously outlined the Bush Doctrine of preventive war. It currently states, "The struggle against militant Islamic radicalism is the great ideological conflict of the early years of the 21st century."

The officials described the changes on condition of anonymity because the document is still being written and is unlikely to be released for weeks, and the White House would not discuss it. But rewriting the strategy document is the latest example of Obama putting his stamp on U.S. foreign policy, as with his promises to dismantle nuclear weapons and limit the situations in which they can be used.

Here We Go Again

Joe,

I’m so sick to hear that the unemployment rate is still over 10% and all I can see is non-citizens having a job. I took this after leaving my apartment at my lunch break where the people cutting the grass were non-citizens as well. What is wrong with the USA? Any idiot can figure it out. BTW this is at the corner of MD Route 50 and Civic Avenue.

One Council Meeting A Quarter

Last night about 50 working citizens turned up to see their county government in action.  A majority of the county council has deemed, up until now anyway, that the vast majority of working citizens only deserve to attend one meeting every three months.  Perhaps that will soon change.

Tuesday night was a full agenda.  There were three issues discussed which were near and dear to my heart:'

  • The proposal for a new county library on Beaglin Park Drive
  • Council holding AT LEAST one meeting per month at night
  • An elected school board

Is The Salisbury Government Getting Even Closer To Relocating To The Current Downtown Library?

At last nights County Council Meeting I was shocked to no end when I confronted the Council in Public Comments and asked, "Has the City of Salisbury paid the $1.00 and signed the contract to finally own 1/2 of the Government Office Building?" Their answer flat out blew me away. Ed Baker replied stating they were about two weeks away from the contract finally being signed. WOW!

If you'll recall, two or three years ago I confronted the Mayor on PAC 14 asking that very same question, had they ever signed the contract to purchase 1/2 of that building. The very next day John Pick raced over to the County Executive with a check for $1.00 but the Mayor never signed the agreement/contract.

While I was in shock last night with their answer, more questions and answers quickly came into play in my mind. Now why would the City all of a sudden, (out of nowhere) finally agree to purchase 1/2 of a building Gary Comegys stated years earlier wasn't worth it because the building was getting old. HELLO!

The reason the City of Salisbury is desperate to own 1/2 of the building is simple, EQUITY! If the City participates in ownership and the County owns the current Library, the County could ask the City to work a deal whereas they'd quickly be willing to DONATE the Library, (once a new one is built) to the City and a swap deal could be made to get the City of Salisbury government out of the current GOB and into their own facility.

The County desperately needs more space and quite frankly Folks, this is a no brainer. However, are you reading this anywhere else? Is anyone taking the time to read between the lines other than Salisbury News? NO!

Relocating the Library anywhere outside the Downtown area would be a disaster to the future of Downtown Salisbury. Palmer Gillis made an unbelievable speech last night, (I highly recommend you watch the rerun on PAC 14 because what he stated was absolutely on the mark). Even I wasn't aware that the Library Board only gave Mayor Ireton 24 hours to come up with a Downtown location or they would seek property in areas outside Downtown.

The scam that's being pulled by this Board is just unbelievable. They're trying to sell everyone on a new location that would cost $300.00 a square foot, yet if you do the math their proposal is actually more than $500.00 a square foot.

Do NOT be fooled like you were the last time with the new Fire Station 16 Folks. The Library deal is complete BS. Even John Cannon stated last night, Tom, do you actually believe the Citizens of Wicomico County would support a $30,000,000.00 project? Tom replied, I believe we can gain their support.

Well Folks, what do YOU think. Are you prepared to spend $30,000,000.00 on a new Library, about 1/4 of the County's overall debt? You know those pot holes all over the roads after this past winter the County cannot afford to properly repair, do you really want a new Library when the old one is perfectly fine. If you work for the County, do you really want to keep your jobs? Adding $30 million more debt into the County, well, your jobs will be cut first. Services within the County will drop dramatically, all because of wants, not needs.

Well, County and City Officials don't want you to understand the OVERALL picture here. The County wants the City out of the GOB. The ONLY way they're going to make that happen is if they build a new Library.

GM Posts $4.3 Billion Loss In 2009's Second Half

Automaker says it still sees a chance of achieving profitability in 2010

DETROIT
- General Motors Co. says it lost $4.3 billion in the last half of 2009 as it struggled to emerge from bankruptcy protection, repay government loans and cope with a severe downturn in U.S. sales.

However, the automaker says it still sees a chance of being profitable in 2010.

GM's results aren't comparable to prior years. They only measure the period from July 10, when GM emerged from bankruptcy protection after shedding billions in debt, through Dec. 31. GM said it earned $109 million in the period from Jan. 1 to July 9, under old accounting.

Shutting Another Door To Opportunity

THIS ADMINISTRATION IS TRULY PATHETIC! As a legislator, as the chairman of a national think tank and currently as chairman of a Maryland business policy organization, my offices have welcomed interns and observed the value of internships. Theys provide a valuable opportunity to learn basic work skills, to determine if the intern likes working in the field, and to get a foot in the door for future employment opportunities. Apparently the Obama folks would prefer that American youth join Americorps and experience only the wonders of “public service”. This is outrageous.

Ellen Sauerbrey.

EDITORIAL: Obama eyes interns
Democrats move to deny useful job training to young workers
·
By THE WASHINGTON TIMES
The Obama administration's top law enforcement officer at the Labor Department, M. Patricia Smith, is targeting companies that give young people unpaid internships. She claims that internships are rife with abusive practices and that serious violations of labor law are widespread. Arguing that interns should get paid at least minimum wage, Ms. Smith and the White House risk destroying a valuable steppingstone that gives many young Americans training they need to get jobs they want in the future.

Unpaid internships are valuable for many reasons. Most simply, they help people test whether they are a good fit for a particular industry. If interns like the type of work at particular companies, internships can help them get the training and contacts they need to make their career aspirations a reality. The short time that interns spend at jobs - often just two to three months - makes it difficult for firms to both train these young people and get much work out of them. From manufacturing to nonprofits to media companies such as The Washington Times, hands-on opportunities open through internships are almost endless.

Basic economics teaches that if the price is raised, demand falls. If companies have to pay wages, they will take on fewer interns. If these youngsters were actually benefiting companies more than it costs to train them, companies would pay them. Profit-seeking companies compete against each other for employees. If untrained students were such valuable workers, firms would gladly offer money to beat out the competitor next door to get them.

Some statements by the administration suggest that their actions are not simply motivated by the welfare of the kids who get internships. The O Force worries that unpaid internships might disadvantage less-affluent students, who might not be able to afford to spend their summers at unpaid jobs. But the administration's solution risks eliminating many internships at for-profit companies so that no one gets them.

The Obama administration, which is full of rhetoric about improving education, actually views education extremely narrowly. In the real world, people gain a lot of practical knowledge on the job. Eliminating training opportunities will only mean worse careers and lower future earnings for those President Obama's team is claiming to protect.

Golf Tournament To Kickoff National Salvation Army Week

Salisbury Corps to Celebrate with activities May 10 – 16

Salisbury, MD…

“We are proud to be participating in this national event. We have many exciting plans for the entire week, but we want to announce our golf tournament now as we invite all of our friends in Worcester, Somerset and Wicomico counties to support the tournament,” said Captain Cameron Henderson, Salisbury Corps Officer. “What could be better than spending an afternoon playing golf on a glorious afternoon in May at one of the area’s premier courses? You can pair your love of golf with the benefit of raising funds to support The Salvation Army’s Red Shield youth sports programs.”

“Our golf committee has planned a very special event for Monday afternoon, May 10th at Glen Riddle Golf Club on the Man ‘O War course. Whether you serve as a major sponsor, invest in a tee sign, donate to the tee bag or provide a door prize, we need everyone’s support to make this one of the best tournaments of the season,” Henderson said.

Foursomes start at $800 and include dinner at Ruth’s Chris Steak House, scores of door prizes, silent and live auctions, stuffed tee bag and much more. The tournament grand prize is a Destination Golf Vacation for Four customized for the winning team by Golf Pac Travel. There are many other specialty prizes. Proceeds raised from the tournament will benefit Red Shield sports programs at the four youth clubs – two in Salisbury and one in Crisfield and Pocomoke.

Iran: Obama ‘Can’t Do A Damn Thing’

Ahmadinejad mocks new U.S. nuclear strategy

TEHRAN, Iran
- Iran's hard-line president on Wednesday ridiculed President Barack Obama's new nuclear strategy, which turns the U.S. focus away from the Cold War threats and instead aims to stop the spread of atomic weapons to rogue states or terrorists.

Obama on Tuesday announced the new strategy, including a vow not to use nuclear weapons against countries that do not have them. Iran, however, was a notable exception to that pledge, along with North Korea, because Washington accuses them of not cooperating with the international community on nonproliferation standards.

Concerns over Iran's nuclear program figure prominently in the new U.S. strategy. U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said the focus would now be on terror groups such as al-Qaida as well as North Korea's nuclear buildup and Iran's nuclear ambitions.

Overtaxed Homeowners Start To Fight Back

Millions paying property taxes based on value of home before bubble burst

Now that the housing bubble has burst, up to 60 percent of the nation's taxable property may be overassessed, meaning owners are paying thousands of dollars more in taxes than they need to, experts say.

That is leading to a flood of appeals in many markets from homeowners eager to cut their taxes and speed the process of aligning tax valuations with reality.

While home prices have fallen by 30 percent on average since their 2007 peak, according to the Case-Shiller Home Price Index, many counties only reassess every three to five years and have little incentive to move faster considering how important property taxes are to funding local government operations.

A READY RESERVE CORPS.

How many Americans are going to become part of Obama’s “corps”. Do you find this trend worrisome?

On July 20, 2008, during his Presidential campaign, Senator Obama 2008 stated, “We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded." (emphasis added)

The immediate question should have been “who is this protecting --and from whom?” But this astonishing proposal received almost no attention from the media.

Also getting very little attention are the three pages of the Health Care Bill creating a Ready Reserve Corps for service in time of national emergency. The executive branch is authorized to expand the Commisioned Corps beyond the previous limit of 2800 individuals. The words "not to exceed 2800" are struck from the law and it establishes a "Ready Reserve Corps" without a cap on numbers or funding! The Commisioned and Ready Reserve Corps can be called to involuntary service in time of "national emergency". The language in the bill is below.

Then there is the huge expansion of Americorps last year. At the time, Senator DeMint said the proposed expansion of AmeriCorps would make its parent, the Corporation for National and Community Service, the 14th-largest company in the world, in terms of number of employees.
According to an article in the San Francisco Examiner, that bill intends to “combine the best practices of civilian service with the best aspects of military service,” while establishing “campuses” that serve as “operational headquarters,” complete with “superintendents” and “uniforms” for all participants. It allows for the elimination of all age restrictions in order to involve Americans at all stages of life. And, it calls for the creation of “a permanent cadre” in a “National Community Civilian Corps.”

Is it off base to be worrying about the opportunity for indoctrination that all of this permits?

We Need Your Help Finding This Pug

Hey Joe,

Someone came in to the Tourism Center with a dog, which was found wandering in the park behind the center. It had no collar or tags, but pugs are not ones to be roaming the streets. He took the dog, saying that his mother was a vet, and he’d take care of the dog. The owner realized the dog was missing half way to Virginia Beach and wants the dog back. The man who found the dog left no phone number or name, so we have no way of knowing who he is.

The dog was a fawn female pug. Please call 410-548-4914 with any information.

Thanks Joe!

LOST CAT

Dear Joe,

Seeing that you have found success in helping to find Peewee the cat. I was hoping that maybe you would be so kind as to help me locate my little sweetheart Pumpkin. She's been missing for 2 days now and my fiance and i are becoming worried for her. Shes been a strickly indoors cat since the day we adopted her, but she ventured outside for the first time 2 days ago.

Shes a petite little female. Solid gray with an all black nose. She is small for a female & has been fixed. She is a little timid and gets startled easily. She was last seen wandering around our home here in salisbury on woodcrest ave off of old ocean city road, still wearing her bell collar, which is black with silver stars and moons. Her tag has her name, and our old house phone, and salisbury. I would greatly appreciate any assistance you could provide in helping us locate her. Thank you

The Great Awakening-- Health Care Bites O-Man In The Butt

Two weeks after President Barack Obama signed the big health care overhaul into law, Americans are struggling to understand how — and when — the sweeping measure will affect them.

Questions reflecting confusion have flooded insurance companies, doctors' offices, human resources departments and business groups.

"They're saying, 'Where do we get the free Obama care, and how do I sign up for that?' " said Carrie McLean, a licensed agent for eHealthInsurance.com. The California-based company sells coverage from 185 health insurance carriers in 50 states.

McLean said the call center had been inundated by uninsured consumers who were hoping that the overhaul would translate into instant, affordable coverage. That widespread misconception may have originated in part from distorted rhetoric about the legislation bubbling up from the hyper-partisan debate about it in Washington and some media outlets, such as when opponents denounced it as socialism.

"We tell them it's not free, that there are going to be things in place that help people who are low-income, but that ultimately most of that is not going to be taking place until 2014," McLean said.

Adults with pre-existing conditions are frustrated to learn that insurers won't have to cover them until 2014 (though those under 18 will be protected in late September); then they become both hopeful and confused upon learning that a federal high-risk pool for them will be established in the next few months. "Health insurance is so confusing. You add this on top of it and it makes it even more confusing," McLean said.

Gingrich To GOP: Back Off Steele

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on Tuesday called on fellow Republicans to stop criticizing party Chairman Michael S. Steele and focus instead on defeating Democrats this fall.

Gingrich, who figures prominently in speculation about the 2012 presidential race, said on NBC's "Today" show that Steele "is capable of taking us through the midterm elections." But he also suggested the beleaguered party chairman appoint an outsider to bring the party's finances under control.

"It's foolish for Republicans to focus on Michael Steele as a person and it's better to focus on Democrats," Gingrich said.

Former RNC Rival Takes Shot At Steele

One of Steele's rivals for the RNC chairmanship took Steele to task Monday for attributing his problems to race.

Kenneth Blackwell, a former Ohio secretary of state who ran against Michael Steele for RNC chairman, said Steele's argument that he has a "smaller margin of error" because he's black is "ridiculous."

"This notion that this disturbing pattern of gaffes and missteps is now being criticized solely because he is black, and that Barack Obama is being criticized for his big-government power grab solely because he is black — that is nonsense," Blackwell told Fox News's Neil Cavuto.

"And here's a person who is leading Lincoln's party, and now he's falling back on this crutch of race. That's disturbing," Blackwell added.

Gaffney: Obama Nuclear Plan Takes 'Dangerous' Risks With U.S. Security

Leading national security expert Frank Gaffney has a few choice words for President Barack Obama’s policies on the production and use of nuclear weapons — “reckless,” “dangerous,” “irresponsible,” “ill-advised,” “very risky” and “catastrophic.”

Gaffney, founder and president of the Center for Security Policy, also tells Newsmax that Obama is taking “considerable risks” with Americans’ security, and his policies could ultimately lead to the “disarmament” of the U.S.

And he says the policies raise questions about the president’s judgment “and his faithful execution of his constitutional responsibilities for the common defense.”

Gaffney was nominated by President Ronald Reagan in April 1987 to become assistant secretary of defense for International Security Policy, the senior position in the Defense Department with responsibility for policies involving nuclear forces, arms control and U.S.-European defense relations.
He also served as deputy assistant secretary of defense for Nuclear Forces and Arms Control Policy.

The Obama administration is altering the country’s decades-old nuclear weapons policy to reduce the role and number of such weapons, with the target of a nuclear-free world, according to a newly released document called a nuclear posture review.

Obama would renounce the development of any new nuclear weapons, and commit the U.S. not to use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear states that are in compliance with the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty — even if they attacked the United States with biological or chemical weapons.

He is also about to sign a "New START" [Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty] with Russia reducing long-range nuclear weapons.

In his exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV, Gaffney says: “Both the new nuclear posture review and the START treaty reflect the president’s overarching ambition, something that’s been a fixation of his going back to 1983 when he was a young radical at Columbia University, and that is with the idea of disarming the world.

“But as a practical matter the only country he can disarm is the United States, and I think both of these are steps in that direction.

“He is foreclosing any modernization of our nuclear deterrent. He is saying we’re not going to modernize our forces. The practical effect of the president’s decision not to modernize our nuclear deterrent is to condemn it to obsolescence, and [to lead] ultimately to the disarmament of the United States.”

Black Conservative Tea Party Backers Take Heat

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - They've been called Oreos, traitors and Uncle Toms, and are used to having to defend their values. Now black conservatives are really taking heat for their involvement in the mostly white tea party movement—and for having the audacity to oppose the policies of the nation's first black president.

"I've been told I hate myself. I've been called an Uncle Tom. I've been told I'm a spook at the door," said Timothy F. Johnson, chairman of the Frederick Douglass Foundation, a group of black conservatives who support free market principles and limited government.

"Black Republicans find themselves always having to prove who they are. Because the assumption is the Republican Party is for whites and the Democratic Party is for blacks," he said.

Johnson and other black conservatives say they were drawn to the tea party movement because of what they consider its commonsense fiscal values of controlled spending, less taxes and smaller government. The fact that they're black—or that most tea partyers are white—should have nothing to do with it, they say.

"You have to be honest and true to yourself. What am I supposed to do, vote Democratic just to be popular? Just to fit in?" asked Clifton Bazar, a 45-year-old New Jersey freelance photographer and conservative blogger.

A Brooke Mulford Update

Hello everybody, it’s me Brookie!

It has been such a very long time since I got on the computer to say hi to you all. Today I just felt like I had to tell everyone how wonderful I am doing. I have been playing really hard and been doing my share of Easter Egg hunts. I am quite the Easter Egg finder. I just knew this would be the best Easter ever and it was. I feel so much better than last year. Earlier in the week I was outside playing and I fell down and scraped my knee, it was my first injury in a very long time due to playing. It hurt so much worse than all those treatments and procedures I’ve been getting for so long. (not really, but you would of thought so) It was a very happy boo boo! I have also been enjoying taking a bath, it is just so wonderful to lay in the water and play with all my toys, now that I have my tubies out! Mommy just can’t get me out of the water. I have also been eating like no bodies business, and I enjoy everything especially the guacamole chicken Mommy makes for me. I enjoy getting up early in the morning to go downstairs and wake up Daddy after he has had only a couple hours of sleep; well not every morning if I manage to con Mommy into something so I can stay up later, he he he! The big news is I am really looking forward this week to going back to school and see all my friends, it has been such a very very very long time! I am so excited, but I think Mommy is going to have a very hard time. Ahh, don’t cry Mommy because I am going to miss you so very very much. It’s been you and me for the last year and a half every single day and I think this will be harder than I can imagine. Today was so special, because I spent Easter with Mommy, Daddy, Dr. Dave and Miss Liz at Market Street. It was one of the funest times I had last year before I had to be sheltered from the public for precautionary reasons after my transplants. I wore everyone out looking for eggs last year and you know what? I did it again this year! That Easter bunny sure put a lot of eggs everywhere! (Thanks Megan you did a great job with the eggs) Then I was hungry, and I ate all the scallops from the scallop special Mr. Joel made along with some bread, squash and specially prepared cauliflower. Then I spoke right up and told the waiter I would have the strawberry shortcake, but wait then I had some of Miss Liz’s Coconut Smith Island cake as well. Boy was I full! I then ran around for awhile before leaving to go home and go sound asleep, after watching my new Snoopy video with Mommy that was in that special Easter basket. Well I need to go and rest up for my very big week. Thank you to everyone who has been with me thru this……..Brookie

Everyone in shock? I am really sorry it has been a very long time since I have posted anything or gave a Brookie update. Today was that day where I just had to say what a blessing and a miracle that our family has been a part of and been thru. Things have been very stressful and difficult due to the economy as they have been for everybody and work is 7 days a week and very long hours just to survive. Even on a Sunday you can tell by the time I am just getting the time to write this. The thing that keeps me going is that I am healthy, I can’t complain when I look at Brooke and all that matters is her. Also keeping in mind all the other children who suffer from things children should not have to suffer from and all the disasters that have happened around the world as of late. To watch Brooke getting to act like a little girl again and getting to go back to school is just an emotion that can not be put into words. I just had to share with everyone the heartfelt joy of happiness as you all have been there with us in the worst of times and everyone deserves to be a part of the joyous times. So, on this Easter Sunday from our family to yours, thank you all so much for all that you have done and keeping us in your thoughts and prayers and lifting Brooke up in prayer when she needed it most. Those prayers from Salisbury to around the world have been heard and while there is still procedures to be done and the BEAST is ever present for now compared to this time last year there is tears of joy to be had by all! God bless you all! Rob

PS. Please all keep Wayne Bailey a classmate of Brooke's in your prayers as you have Brooke as he goes down this long journey of battling Neuroblastoma.

The Nanny-State Social-Engineering Project That Is The White House

Egg Panels: The nanny-state social-engineering project that is the White House
Easter Egg Roll

By Christopher Beam
Slate.com

The first thing you notice are the lines. A line to get your ID bracelet. A line
to pass through the metal detector. A line to enter the South Lawn. A line for
the bathroom. Even a line to escape.

The White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday was a revealing look at the Obama
administration's love of social engineering-and a chilling glimpse of what fate
may befall the American people if they fail to rise up against it. The theme of
the celebration was, predictably, fitness-an agenda couched in the
friendly-seeming slogan, "Ready, Set, Go!" Kids were encouraged to participate
in a variety of sports, including football, basketball, and hula-hoops. The
purported reason was to get them in good physical shape. The real reason: to
wear down their resistance, through physical exhaustion, to indoctrination.

That indoctrination began before visitors even reached the entrance. While
standing in line, attendees were forced to listen to a musical group called DJ
Willy Wow! and Little Beat the No. 1 Chinchilla. Their message seemed harmless
at first: "There's a party going on/ on the White House lawn." But soon they
were endorsing political apathy, as the duo encouraged children to "Put your
hands in the air/ and wave them like you just don't care."

Once inside, families were presented with a variety of social control
experiments. Foremost was the egg roll itself. Children lined up and, on "go,"
proceeded to push their respective hard-boiled eggs across a small lawn. Not
only does the practice of rolling eggs have no utility in the real world-a
metaphor for the administration's useless "job creation"-children were also
encouraged to cheat. One parent literally held her daughter's arms like a
marionette and scooped the egg forward across the finish line.

Kids were also subjected to the gospel of local, organic food. Whole Foods
passed out bags of fresh fruit, presumably to teach kids that they can expect
free handouts in life. Across the way, kids learned to "Eggspress" themselves by
creating plastic medallions with their names on them-a glorification of the
empty consumerism of hip-hop culture. Local restaurants set up "demo stations"
to show families how to make healthy snacks. However, they were not allowed to
serve the food. "We can't give free samples or the Secret Service will tackle
us," said a man at the serving station for Moto, a high-end Chicago restaurant.
"They're not too fun."

Fun was apparently detained at the White House gate. At the Easter egg hunt,
kids searched through hay for hard-boiled eggs, rather than eggs filled with
candy, i.e., the kind of eggs a child would actually want to hunt for. At the
egg-dyeing station, kids used child-safe egg tongs rather than the usual
octagonal wire. It might poke an eye out! I hoped at the very least to crack
open my egg and have a taste. Not so fast. "Enjoy the beauty of your decorated
eggs but please do not eat them," said a sign. "They are not edible."

The musical performances were part of the messaging, as well. The television
entertainment group Yo Gabba Gabba taught children to follow orders by
instructing them to "hop, hop, hop" because it's "fun, fun, fun." The audience
dutifully obeyed. They followed up with "Party in My Tummy," an ode to
cannibalism. The cast of Glee! later performed a celebration of sexual
desperation ("Somebody To Love"), a gay love ballad sung by two men ("Somewhere
Over the Rainbow"), and the utopian anthem "Don't Stop Believin' ."

Once the children had been sufficiently fatigued, plied with food, and
artistically brainwashed, everyone gathered by the White House balcony to greet
the first family. "Can we go into Barack Obama's house?" one child asked his
father. "No," his father replied, "we have to stay out here." The correct
response, of course, is that it's not Obama's house, it's the American people's
house.

First to emerge was the Easter Bunny-a piece of choreography designed to fill
the children's heads with positive associations, which then transferred directly
to the next pseudo-deity to emerge: Barack Obama. "Happy Easter, everybody," he
said, failing to mention Jesus. Michelle Obama followed up with a pagan prayer:
"Let's say thank you to Mother Nature!" She then proceeded to praise the
benefits of fitness, organic food, and generic Canadian import Justin Bieber.
The last elicited screams.

Even the dissemination of the White House's famous souvenir wooden eggs was an
exercise in government control. In order to keep the 30,000 guests moving
through smoothly, these souvenirs were awarded only to those who left with their
group at the designated time-an obvious behavioral "nudge" dreamed up by Cass
Sunstein. And of course, there was rationing: "Limit one egg per child," the
program stated. "No exceptions."

Public Transportation In Serious Funding Crisis Due To Economic Recession

APTA Survey Report - Public Transportation In Serious Funding Crisis Due To Economic Recession

Washington, DC
-- Public Transportation In Serious Funding Crisis Due To Economic Recession

More than 80% of Transit Systems Are Being Forced To Raise Fares or Cut Services Due to Widespread State and Local Revenue Declines

Public transportation systems are facing unprecedented funding challenges due to widespread declining state and local revenues, and have been forced to take a number of critical actions including: raising fares, cutting service, and laying off employees, according to a new survey released today by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA).

This report, Impacts of the Recession on Public Transportation Agencies, shows that since January 1, 2009, 84 percent of public transit systems have raised fares, cut service or are considering either of those actions. Fifty nine percent of public transit systems reported that they have already cut service or raised fares.

Service cuts that have been either implemented or will be considered for future action include: reductions in rush hour service (56%), reductions in off-peak service (62%), and reductions in geographic coverage (40%).

The severity of the funding situation is evident with seven out of ten public transit systems (69%) projecting budget shortfalls in their next fiscal year. According to the report, public transit systems have taken significant personnel actions to reduce spending. A total of 68 percent of public transportation systems have eliminated positions or are considering doing so in the future. Nearly half (47%) of public transit systems have laid off employees or are considering layoffs in the future.

In addition, more than half (54%) of public transportation systems responding have transferred funds from capital use to operations, thus aggravating efforts to keep systems in a state of good repair.

Public transportation is experiencing a funding crisis and it is negatively impacting the millions of riders who depend on public transportation every day, said APTA President William Millar. The results of this survey are grim as many public transportation systems are facing large budget shortfalls due to declining state and local revenues.

As bad as things are today, more drastic service cuts, fare increases, layoffs, and deferred capital projects will occur if this problem is not addressed, said Millar.

I call on Congress to provide federal funds for operating expenses during this economic recession, said Millar. This funding crisis is not going away. Without help from the federal government, transit riders will be left behind at the curb or station.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) supported and created more than 200,000 jobs, through both capital investment and up to 10 percent of funding for operating expenses. The APTA survey found that about one-third of public transit systems used some of their ARRA funds to pay operating costs. In December, the U.S. House of Representatives approved The Jobs for Main Street Act, which provides an additional $8.4 billion for public transportation, including funds for both capital and operating expenses.

I urge the Senate to act now on its version of a new jobs bill, especially since no ARRA funding remains available for new grants, said Millar. Absent a new jobs bill, further layoffs will occur as ARRA projects are completed.

Noting that nearly 60 percent of all the trips taken on public transportation are taken to commute to and from work, Millar said, Now is not the time to cut service that helps people commute to work or enables the unemployed to look for work. Now is the time for federal, state and local governments to invest in public transportation to help support and create jobs, and maintain service to the public.

The report is based on a survey of 151 APTA transit system members representing more than 80 percent of the transit riders in the nation, and includes 19 of the top 25 agencies in terms of annual ridership.

FEDERAL GRANT FOR HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

JOINT STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY AND LT. GOVERNOR ANTHONY G. BROWN ON FEDERAL GRANT FOR HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

ANNAPOLIS, Md.
– Governor Martin O’Malley and Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown released the following statement today congratulating the Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients (CRISP) for receiving a $5.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service to establish Regional Extension Centers that help doctors, hospitals and private practices implement health information technology.

“Last month, we applauded President Obama and Vice President Biden for passing health care reform legislation that was more than 100 years in the making. Reform, though, can only be as good as a state’s ability to implement the new standards. We intend to implement reform better than any other state.

“We commend the Department of Health and Human Services and sincerely thank Secretary Sebelius for ensuring that Maryland receives federal support to develop the necessary regional extension centers that will improve the implementation of health information technology. The Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients – CRISP – will provide Marylanders with the best access to care and a coordinated system to provide doctors and providers with secure and efficient access to their patients’ records.

“Patients and doctors need better access to information technology and a more robust platform to share important information. This Federal support will go a long way to build on the successful programs many hospitals and practices have already implemented and will, in the long run, save patients, insurers and taxpayers money.”

Earlier this year, the Maryland Health Care Commission received a $9.3 million grant to build upon existing work to create a health information exchange.

CRISP is a private, non-profit organization whose mission is to provide safer, timelier, efficient, effective, equitable, patient-centered health care to all Marylanders through the use of health information technology. With support from a broad coalition of stakeholders in State government as well as health and technology sectors, CRISP is working to implement a statewide health information exchange.

Late last month, following President Obama’s signing of the Working Families and Small Business Health Coverage Act, Governor O’Malley signed an executive order creating the Maryland Health Reform Coordinating Council, co-chaired by Lt. Governor Brown and Health and Mental Hygiene Secretary John M. Colmers. The Council will advise the administration on policies and procedures to implement the recent and future federal health care reform legislation as efficiently and effectively as possible. As states assume the critical role of implementing multiple aspects of health care reform, the Council will make policy recommendations and offer implementation strategies to keep Maryland among the leading states in expanding quality, affordable health care while reducing waste and controlling costs.

GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY ANNOUNCES CAPITOL HEIGHTS AS FIRST 2010 ‘CAPITAL FOR A DAY’

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Martin O’Malley announced yesterday that Capitol Heights, MD, in Prince George’s County will be the first “Capital for a Day” destination for the 2010 series. The monthly program brings the State Capital to every corner of Maryland through a series of events across a diverse selection of Maryland cities, towns and communities.

“I’m very proud to continue the ‘Capital for a Day’ program, which has brought the State Capital and its cabinet to every region of our state and more than fifteen counties and jurisdictions throughout Maryland over these last three years,” said Governor O’Malley. “Strengthening our local partnerships is critical to continue the progress we have made in public education and public safety, and I’m proud that Capital Heights will serve as this year’s first Capital for a Day. It’s more important than ever for Maryland’s families to see that their state government is working for them each and every day and its equally important for us to meet and hear from people firsthand about the challenges and opportunities we face as a state.”

“Capital for a Day” was launched by Governor O’Malley in 2007. Since then, seventeen local jurisdictions, counties, and municipalities have played host to the Governor, Lt. Governor, and the entire Cabinet as “Capital for a Day.” In addition to the Capital for a Day program, Governor O’Malley conducted a Town Hall series last year on the Public Education and the Economy. The town hall series took O’Malley and the cabinet to every region our state.

The following areas have served as “Capital for a Day:”

· Bel Air
· Calvert County
· Cecil County
· Chestertown
· Cumberland
· Ellicott City
· Frederick
· Hagerstown
· Gaithersburg
· La Plata
· Laurel
· Leonardtown
· Pocomoke City
· Port Towns of Prince George’s County

Capitol Heights will serve as “Capital for a Day” on Thursday, April 15. The Governor’s schedule will include a tour of a local small business, as well as the convening of an official Cabinet Meeting, where the Governor and Cabinet will hear from local officials about issues facing the people of Capital Heights and surrounding areas.

A complete schedule of activities, including schedules for the Governor and Cabinet officials, will be available next week.

PU 311: New Element Discovered

Discovery Announcement ~ The densest element in the known universe has been found!

A major research institution has just announced the discovery of the densest element yet known to science. The new element has been named Pelosium. Pelosium has one neutron, 12 assistant neutrons, 75 deputy neutrons, and 224 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 311.

These particles are held together by dark forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons.

The symbol of Pelosium is Pu.

Pelosium's mass actually increases over time, as morons randomly interact with various elements in the atmosphere and become assistant deputy neutrons within the Pelosium molecule, leading to the formation of isodopes.

This characteristic of moron-promotion leads some scientist to believe that Pelosium is formed whenever morons reach a certain quantity in concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as Critical Morass.

When catalyzed with money, Pelosium activates CNNadnausium, an element that radiates orders of magnitude more energy, albeit as incoherent noise, since it has half as many peons but twice as many morons as Pelosium.

Next Battle: Immigration

Next Battle: Immigration
What we will — and will not — hear in the upcoming debate.
by Victor Davis Hanson
National Review Online

After the healthcare fight, we can expect the Obama administration to use the same template to pass “comprehensive immigration reform.” That is a euphemism for permanently ceasing construction of the still-incomplete border fence; institutionalizing a large guest-worker program; treating illegal residents as de facto citizens in terms of receiving earned-income credits, healthcare, and general entitlements; and providing virtual amnesty for 11 million illegal aliens.

And what exactly is that model for passage of something that promises to be so unpopular?

We know the boilerplate well after a year of healthcare acrimony. First, immigration policy — like healthcare, and cap-and-trade to come — will be cast as a civil-rights issue. That is, free access to the United States and, for some, its entitlement industry for millions of impoverished Mexicans will be redefined as comparable to ending discrimination in the South in the 1960s.

Next, skeptics will be branded “racists” and “nativists,” as is being done now to the tea partiers. A few House members will wade through anti-illegal-immigration rallies, and within minutes the media will announce “racial slurs” and “a scary atmosphere” suggesting “violence” and “hatred.”

This polarization is critical for the bill’s passage, since it does not have 50 percent public support — and won’t unless a series of constituencies can be united to see the issue in polarities such as us vs. them, whites vs. people of color, rich vs. poor. Blacks will be told it is Birmingham all over again. The Mexican-American middle class, highly skeptical of open borders, will be told that opposition to amnesty is “anti-Hispanic.”

So the debate will be personalized — and, above all, blurred. Opponents, we will also be told, are not bothered by illegal immigration per se. Rather they are “anti-immigrant” — as the issue is transmuted into one of hating real people rather than opposing an illegal activity.

Fence-sitting House members will be promised all sorts of special multi-million-dollar earmarks to allay “voter concern.” Executive orders will be pledged to override the more disturbing elements of congressional legislation. Anecdotes about starving children, and accusations of responsibility for the deaths of hundreds trying to cross the border in the desert, will pepper the rhetoric of open-border advocates.

Hyattsville Man Charged With Child Pornography

(Hyattsville, MD) – Members of the Maryland State Police Computer Crimes Unit have arrested a Hyattsville man in connection with the possession and distribution of child pornography.

Martin Columbus Savage, 25, of the 1500 block of Brightseat Road was charged today with ten counts of possessing child pornography. If convicted, Savage could be sentenced up to 20 years in prison and/or $25,000 in fines.

In March, a trooper assigned to the Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force began the investigation after identifying a computer on the Internet that was offering pornographic videos of children for others to download. Troopers were able to trace the computer back to Savage. Early this morning, investigators executed a search warrant at Savage’s Hyattsville residence. The search yielded two computers and multiple data storage devices. A preliminary analysis of the seized computers led to the discovery of child pornography. A complete forensic examination of the computers will be conducted which could lead to additional charges.

Savage was arrested and processed at the Maryland State Police Forestville Barracks. He was released to the Prince George’s County Detention Center awaiting an initial appearance before the Court Commissioner.

The Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force is comprised of police agencies from around the state. Its primary mission is to protect children from computer-facilitated sexual exploitation. The Task Force works cooperatively with law enforcement agencies and prosecutors to provide resources to combat these crimes. Additionally, the Task Force provides community awareness campaigns helping to prevent the spread of these crimes through education.
