ReplyDeleteThats a Pileated Woodpecker. They are North Americas largest woodpecker. They are a real treat to see. It appears that they are preparing a nesting cavity so you will be able to watch them raise their young. Cool!
ReplyDeleteNot a Pileated, its an Umsuquah Woodpecker, very distinctive pattern and very rare.
ReplyDeleteI have one the peck on the side of my house early in the morning. My siding is oak grain. I went to the window to see what the drilling noise was and there we were eye to eye. Cocky looking thing.
ReplyDeleteits amazing what a little ol'bird can do! reminds me of one of my favorite cartoons that kids dont get to see anymore, Woody The Woodpecker I used to love that cartoon with Woody and that ol'Buzzard allways throwing watermelons at eachother and they allways seemed to wear one of them on thier head for a helmet lol! memories!

ReplyDeleteOne of these lil guys ,cost me 2500.00 in tree loss last year , they will mess up some wood..Cute lil fellows but destructive..
