"Trooper 2" Performs Open Water Rescue Off Dewey Beach

At approximately 6:00 p.m. this evening, "Trooper 2," the State Police helicopter based out of Georgetown Aviation, was called by Station 86 Rehoboth Beach to assist with the report of two subjects stranded in open water.

The helicopter responded, and while enroute, they learned that an adult male and female were initially in a small raft off of the Dewey Beach and had fallen from the raft into the water. These subjects were not wearing flotation devices and were struggling to stay afloat. Trooper 2 selected a landing zone in Dewey Beach and set down to configure the aircraft with a rescue winch and cable.

The helicopter took off and located both subjects approximately 3/4 miles from shore. The winch was lowered and the two subjects were both able to cling to the rescue line. Trooper 2's pilot then navigated the aircraft toward shore. Just prior to making it to land, the female was unable to hold on and fell back into the water. While the male was being pulled to safety, a good samaritan dove into the water, swam to, and rescued the female.

Once on shore, the two subjects were ultimately met by rescue personnel from Station 86, Rehoboth PD and Sussex County Paramedics. The pair are believed to be uninjured.

The Delaware State Police does not have the identities of these two subjects. Inquires pertaining to their names and medical status should be directed to Station 86 or the Sussex County Paramedics.

Stuntman Charged With Felony Resisting Arrest

Late Friday evening, a Troop 7 patrol officer was traveling Route 1 northbound, approaching CR270, when he observed a motorcycle operator 'pop-a-wheelie.' With the bike up on one wheel, the operator let go with both hands and continued down the roadway. The operator resumed two-wheeled operation and turned onto CR270. The bike turned into the Wawa on CR270 and the Trooper followed behind him.

The Trooper activated his emergency equipment and the operator of the bike accelerated quickly through the crowded parking lot. The operator, to be referred to hereinafter also as the suspect, tried to jump a curb, and into a field, in an attempt to elude the Trooper. When the bike hit the ground, it fell over. The Trooper quickly moved in and tried to apprehend the suspect.

The suspect put up a fight and actively resisted the Troopers attempt to take him into custody. Eventually, the handcuffs were secured the bandit arrested. This suspect's actions resulted in the Trooper damaging his uniform. This operator was then identified as Dave Moncavage. He told the Trooper he fled to avoid getting a ticket. He also added that he was a stunt bike driver. This coincided with the tag on his motorcycle- "STUNT."

Moncavage was transported back to Troop 7 where he was formally charged with Resisting Arrest (felony), Disregarding a Police Officers Signal (felony), Criminal Mischief (misdemeanor), Reckless Driving, two motorcycle violations and Failure to Signal. He was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of secured bond.

Slow Weekend For News?

I have received several comments making pokes at me for not having much content up for news today.

While you're right, we have slacked off this weekend, I too need a break every once in a while. I sit here most days 16 to 18 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and God Forbid I take some Family Time and relax, some of you rag on me for it.

Let me remind each and every one of you that this is a FREE service. My guess is that my expense just to run this Blog far exceeds what most of you make in a year individually. Just ask any one of my Lawyers what they have billed us each year and that will be a good start. I'm talking Chief Webster lawsuits, Barrie Tilghman, gas expenses, equipment, time, taxes, you name it, this thing isn't cheap to do, believe me.

Here's a thought. If you're not happy with what we deliver, go out and buy the Daily Times and truly entertain yourself. Your pets will thank you.

Not only do we have those expenses, we also make FREE TICKETS available for Boxing Events and all sorts of other Entertainment Events at the Civic Center. The next time you want to complain, please think about what you're saying first.

This week Salisbury News was ranked #1 in Maryland and #1 on Delmarva. You don't get to be #1 by slacking off all the time. I was watching WBOC the other day and saw them do a 10 minute long piece on a business that advertises on their Station. Then we watched at least another 10 minutes of Weather, (WOO-HOO) and every single piece they did locally had already been on Salisbury News earlier that day. If you watched WMDT this past week you saw several pieces where they credited Salisbury News for several photos we provided. We absolutely encourage this kind of partnership as we all can't be everywhere at one time.
Seriously Folks, I think we're doing a pretty darned good job around here and like I said, before I get completely burned out, I'm going to take a break every once in a while, (when it's slow days) and take it easy. Just scroll back throughout this past week and see up to 40 articles per day, most of which have my name on them. Being a one man show and providing all the information that we do is not an easy task, especially when we're not making a dime at it. I know it's only a select few making these comments and we truly do appreciate every one's support.

If you can't handle that, well, you know where the complaint department is.
There you go, here's yet another article for the day. ;-)

Salisbury News Gets Back To Normal This Week

I appreciate everyone dealing with my rants on Friday and Saturday referencing Mr. Robinson and the Fat Man. We'll get back to normal this week, don't worry.

There just comes a time every few months where I feel the desire and need to expose certain things when others are out there lying about me and especially my Family.

That being said, I chose Friday and Saturday, (our slowest days) to make my mark and get some issues out there and have a little fun.

We hope all of you are enjoying a nice holiday weekend and to let everyone know, we have invited Chelsea to join us as a regular Contributor to Salisbury News. We have always felt it is important to let the community know about Salisbury University from the inside and if there's one thing I absolutely love more than anything challenging in this world, it's the underdog!

So Chelsea, Welcome to Salisbury News and I truly look forward to more of your work.

If anyone else is interested in Contributing, drop me a note at alberobutzo@wmconnect.com. We're not interested in people who just want to have a place in which they can simply vent. We're looking for people who can help contribute to make Salisbury and the entire Eastern Shore a better place to live and work. We'll know if you're well fit for what we provide.

We're looking for people in Ocean City, Ocean Pines, Snow Hill, the Eastern Shore of Virginia, Rehoboth, Southern Delaware & UMES. Send me a sample of what you'd like to post as topics and we'll go from there. Let us know where you stand politically in your community.

An Interesting Look At Blog Readers

By: Chelsea A. Reid

Recently I wrote my first blog for Salisbury News. I was excited to know that Mr. Albero was willing to show it on his site in order to see the response. Now I am worried I will never be able to write for him again, since the response was less than flattering. I don’t believe it was because of the content. I received praise, valuable insight, corrections (of which I found extremely insightful and helpful), and in general a nice start to a good discussion. What went wrong was what I also got. A few were more concerned with my writing abilities and use of grammar than for the actual content of my piece. Each of those comments was hurtful to me, as I had tried very hard to make a good impression.

I am not expecting to think that no one out of the many readers there are to not make a comment on my grammar, word usage, punctuation, and general style of writing. I know it is atrocious, and I have had to deal with it my entire life. I have dyslexia, to the point where it affects my reading and writing abilities. Now I have learned to compensate for the most part. I can read at a level above and beyond what any doctor would expect of me, my spelling has improved over the years, and the same for punctuation. But I still make mistakes. Even when I use spell check and everything turns out fine, I will make a mistake. Because my brain doesn’t catch it, and when I am writing something, I typically write exactly as I speak, which says a lot about my speaking abilities.

I can’t expect someone who doesn’t know me and has never even heard of me before to know this. But I thought I could expect less hurtful, demeaning comments and more commentary on the subject being written. I wanted (and still do want) to open a dialogue between those that read and comment on this blog as members of the Salisbury community, and students at their local University, as I feel I had a sense of being an outsider during my time here, unknowing of the ways of this city, looking in to an interesting, intelligent community of people with valid opinions and a sense of friendly debate. I didn’t want to start a war against grammar-Nazis and myself. I have apparently failed miserably at my goal, but I am here now to try again. Let’s start off on the right foot shall we? Maybe you should know something about me before railing against my misuses of “their” and “there”.

I’m Chelsea. I’m a double major at SU in education (I can hear the sarcastic comments about this forming in certain reader’s heads now) and Theatre. I enjoy animals, eating fresh vegetables, dancing, good natured jokes, church, and a whole lot more. I like to think I know a lot about you all as a group too. You all are up to date on current events, both National and Local. Most of you hate former Mayor Tilghman for reasons I have gathered from reading the archives of the blog. Sarcasm and generally witty, if not sometimes cynical, humor is your strong suit. Nature, strong morals, and good values seem to be all things you praise. But some of you just like to hate. I went back and read comments from my first piece over and over again. I found similar comments in other articles over the weeks as well, typically attacking a person who said an opinion someone else doesn’t agree with. And I have started to notice, it seems to be coming from the same small group of people. Same style of poorly thought out insults, same reasons for always posting rude comments.

I’m not here to whine and complain about a few people who were mean. I know the world is not all kittens, rainbows and sunshine, and that people can be obnoxious, cruel, and in general distasteful human beings to associate with. But I would like to stay on as an occasional observer who submits sometimes poorly written works if you all will let me. I may not be from Salisbury originally, but I pick things up quickly. I know all about the recent Mayoral election. Hell I even voted for Ireton, after reviewing the issues. I know about the budget crisis, the crime rate being hushed up by a hopefully soon-to-be outgoing administration. I want to contribute if you’ll let me. And I may not be the brightest bulb in the box, but teach me something new. Be like one commenter I had and explain things to me. Explain how the court system really works when I confuse terms. Explain to me what would be the right way of putting things on paper. But don’t insult me. My brain may not be all up to speed sometimes, but I am not stupid.

So let’s start over. I want to extend an olive branch. What would YOU like to have me write about? It can be anything at all. I’ll write about what’s going on in various student neighborhoods, what is going on campus, or the weird, wacky, and sometimes unbelievable things I see as a student at SU. Let me know and it will be done to the best of my ability. All I ask is to keep the grammar comments out of it. Please?

Three Years Ago Today Was The First Time I Met V.P. Joe Biden

While the circumstances weren't the best, I met a man who's heart was touched by the loss of a local Soldier in Delaware. The then Senator and I had a chance to talk and I was able to see a side of our now Vice President most do not see. The usual joking man had truly been touched by the loss of this young man and it's great to see he is now in a position to bring these Soldiers home, just as he desired that first day I met him. It was three years ago today.

POSITIVE IDENTIFICATION MADE OF MAN FOUND IN BURNING TRUCK

(Hampstead, MD) – A forensic examination has resulted in the positive identification of the man whose body was found inside a burning truck on a Carroll County church parking lot early yesterday morning.

The victim is identified as Duane F. Fuller, 39, of the 2600-block of Susanann Drive, Hampstead, Md. The identification was made through the use of dental records by forensic experts at the Office of the State Medical Examiner.

The cause and manner of Fuller’s death remain under investigation. The circumstances surrounding his death continue to be investigated by State Police criminal investigators from the Westminster Barracks and deputy state fire marshals from the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

At about 4:15 a.m. yesterday, members of the Hampstead Volunteer Fire Department responded to extinguish a fully-engulfed pick up truck that was seen burning on the parking lot of a church in the 1600-block of Cape Horn Road, Hampstead. Fuller’s body was found inside a 2006 diesel Ford utility pick up truck with a crew cab after fire personnel extinguished the blaze.

The truck belonged to Sunrise Safety Services of Glen Burnie. Fuller was employed by that company and was involved in work on the Hampstead Bypass, which is near where the victim was found.

The investigation is continuing.

Robinson Is At It AGAIN

I know, enough already, right? Well, it seems Mr. Robinson is up to his same old cheating game when it comes to vehicles having improper tags or no tags at all.

Another one of Robinson's vehicles has been spotted in Fruitland, (this time) being used to advertise his business but the vehicle has absolutely NO TAGS on it at all. We're told his buddy at alarm dog is allowing him to park the vehicle in their parking lot, yet it's not registered and once again violating the law.

I'm sure by tomorrow we'll be hearing Tylenol excused number 1,346 on how he was just getting ready to tag it Monday but forgot it was a holiday. Hey, I know, maybe he knows someone important at the DMV and they'll open the doors special for him because, you know, he's John Robinson.

If I were you Johnnie, I'd go to Fruitland and see if the vehicle is still illegally parked there or if it was towed away. Better get there before the Sheriff's Department does. After all, your best friend the Fat Man has been raging on Sheriff Lewis pretty good lately. All lies, of course.

Life must really SUCK if you're John Robinson these days, eh?

TIC TOCK, time is running out on these tags too Johnnie. 7 days left before they're dead. All eyes are on the parking lot to see when and if this vehicle will make it to an Inspection Station this week so permanent tags can be applied for.

I can see the people at Motor Vehicle now, WHAT DO YOU WANT THIS TIME MR. ROBINSON!

In closing, NO, I am not the one taking the photos you see above. It seems Mr. Robinson made some calls on other residents in the area about their tags, so they're returning the favor. You sure do know how to make friends Johnnie.

By the way, just out of curiosity, has anyone else heard of any OTHER break-ins at local businesses this past week?
