BIKER GROUP STOPPED AT THE IN VIENNA BRIDGE
This thru the windshield shot was taken about 1:30 yesterday afternoon at the Dorchester County end of the Route 50 bridge. Beyond the SUV are 3 more State Police and Sheriff's Dept. vehicles. The group had about 8 bikes.
Does anyone know why they were stopped and what happened.
Monday Night A Big Night At Civic Center
Monday night is your night to shine Wicomico County! At 7:00 PM the County Council will have an open meeting for Citizens to voice their opinion about Bill 2009-5.
Farmers and business people from all over the County had a Tractorcade lase week at the GOB where numerous people showed up to express their disbelief in such a bill, allowing our local Government to tell us what we can do with our properties.
In a nutshell, what many of the County Council Members are trying to do is RAISE YOUR TAXES. You see, how it works, (in terms ALL of you can understand) is as follows. Their biggest concern is what goes on INSIDE the Metro Core. You might say their biggest concern is what goes on outside the Metro Core, so allow me to explain. The more they raise the values within the Metro Core, the higher your property will be assessed, therefore you'll be paying more taxes.
IF they're able to control the outside of the Metro Core by telling Farmers and Investors they can no longer sell their Farms to Developers unless they had one home per 15 acres, this will RAISE the property values INSIDE the Metro Core. Why, how many people do YOU know that want to own a home on 15 acres and care and maintain that much property?
Everyone, (or the majority thereof) will be more interested in the property INSIDE the Metro Core, so their value will go up because of supply and demand. In the mean time, Farmers and current land owners will get screwed for selfish reasons. WE made the investments, NOT the Wicomico County Council!
County Executive Rick Pollitt wants to see a compromise. I say ABSOLUTELY NOT! Find another way to increase taxes by WORKING at it and not USING those of us who have already invested into large parcels of land, only to get screwed by politicians who are desperate to make a buck for themselves or their constituents.
Mind you, I hate to do this but I must. Let's take John Cannon for example. His Family is heavily invested INSIDE the Metro Core. IF they pass this Bill, his Family will stand to make a small fortune over time. I too own valuable property inside the Metro Core. I would stand to make quite a bit of money too. However, I'm absolutely not interested in screwing my friends, (the investors) out of their land to make it back elsewhere. I am also a large parcel property owner that would be screwed if this Bill passes as I have property in Wicomico County that I could subdivide and do extremely well financially in the end. Even though I'm truly not interested in doing so with that land, I still refuse to support this Bill.
So please find your way to the Civic Center Monday evening at 7:00 PM and show your support by saying NO to Bill 2009-5. If you don't show, clearly you don't care either way.
A Comment Worthy Of A Post
Joe, after looking at the Daily Rag online I saw this story about Somerset County and it got me to thinking.
"After delay, Westover sewer system working"
How can the poorest county in the state have it's own sanitary district and provide water and sewer to the county residents and Wicomico County can't? I think this is an excellent idea for a post. If Wicomico County would provide water and sewer it would eliminate many of the problems with Salisbury and them trying to keep up with the infrastructure. It would also help reduce the congestion around the so called "metro core."

Salisbury Home Prices Decline
The Daily Times has an interesting article today about home prices dropping locally, faster than the national average.
They also have an article on Council Unity and Urban Salisbury delivering their Master Plan to the new Mayor Ireton's round table meeting last week where more than 100 people attended. The normal amount of people attending with Mayor Tilghman, (they claim) is 10.
For starters, the interest is there, will Smith, Comegy & Shields hear "The People?" After all, they're the ones who have been crying UNITY for all the Tilghman years.
We have a slacking economy, that's a given. However, this is the Eastern Shore and quite frankly I personally believe WE should be the very first to be able to recover. Our cost of living is far less than the rest of the State but we must reinvest into a rebound or we'll simply become another Detroit.
Yes, we have put most of our eggs into one basket with the north end of Town. It has been reported that the Box Stores are moving away from the big Malls and with the Downtown Plaza we already have the infrastructure there to make a rebound work.
The ONLY way we're going to be able to boost housing prices back up or at least stabilize them is to create jobs. We need to build our economy, not destroy it by ignoring it and blaming it on a national problem.
Look, if you're a Car Dealership and you have millions invested in your business, just because sales are down nation wide, does that mean you just give up and blame it on the rest of the national averages. Or do you work that much harder to survive. Barrie Tilghman gave up on Salisbury. Her only interests were Developers and not the Citizens or current Investors. The Smith, Comegys & Shields way of thinking, (inherited by Barrie Tilghman) will only bring us down that much further and quicker. The national average does not lie, are you listening too Chief?
Do all of YOU want to just give up and blame it on the rest of the Country, or do YOU want to get involved and bring those round table meetings to a point they have to use the Civic Center because the GOB doesn't have enough room to hold ALL of us that are interested in raising the value of our homes and make Salisbury a place people want to call home? Do YOU want to see crime go down so we can all ENJOY our way of life while we pay all these taxes and perhaps even increases?
Get involved people. It's a great learning experience and quite frankly your opinions and ideas are vital in revitalizing Salisbury. If you don't care, don't complain when home values continue to drop below the national average. Oh, I don't want to forget to mention something else I think is really important. STOP allowing Smith, Comegys and Shields to use ROCKVILLE as a comparison all the time. Salisbury is NOT Rockville! They got away with it on several projects, including the $14,000,000.00 Fire Palace.

Dave Suiter "On The Road Again"
Hi Folks,
Today I left Portland a little late. Slept in thanks to nice evening with my old friend Art and his family.
Headed east along Olympia River on I84/US30 parts of which are still called the Oregon Trail. Parts of old 30 are still there through the little towns along the way. Spoke to gent while gassing up and he said most of old 30 lay on top of original Trail.
As I went east, country side started to look more like Utah and Nevada that I rode a few days ago. One thing I noticed was that they are really ahead of us as far as wind generated power. I think I rode 20 miles and somewhere along the bluffs were wind turbines 100s of them!
Also, out of Portland were miles of tree farms, groves and vineyards as well as usual farm crops. Art mentioned last night that Portland area is right behind Napa Valley in wine production. Most of that farmland is irrigated either by drainage or spray. Some beautiful country.
PICS:
Olympia River east of Portland
Multonmah Falls along I84/ US30 looking east
Eastern OR looking SE towards Idaho
I passed these folks and wanted so bad to get a pic. I stopped at rest stop and what to my wondering eyes should appear??????? Hippie vans!! One VW pulling the other. Saw 4 kids without shoes (46 degrees) and man with Jesus shoes on. Didn't see mom!
Someone asked for pic of the bike!! Here tis!! 2006 Honda ST1300 Sport Tourer. V-4 shaft drive. Cruise 85 all day!! Takes a lickin', keeps on tickin'. Best bike I have ever owned. Smooth, Quiet and reliable.
Stopped in Burley, ID tonight. Hope to be in Indiana Monday 1700 miles to Indy and another 710 to home. Winds were gusty today so feel somewhat worn out. Hot shower and BenGay before turning in.
GPS is routing me down I 84 to I 80 east to I 74 and into Indy. I do not like to ride Interstates but I am ready to get home.

WHEN A WOMAN SHOWS HER AGE
It is important for men to remember that, as women grow older, it becomes harder for them to maintain the same quality of housekeeping as when they were younger. When you notice this, try not to shout at them. Some are over-sensitive and there's nothing worse than an over-sensitive woman.
My name is Ron. Let me relate how I handled the situation with my wife, Jean. When I took early retirement last year, it became necessary for Jean to get a full-time job for the extra income that we need.
Shortly after she started working, I noticed she was beginning to show her age. I now usually get home from the pub about the same time she gets home from work. Although she knows how hungry I am, she nearly always says she has to rest for half an hour or so before she starts dinner. I don't shout at her, instead I tell her to take her time and just wake me when she gets dinner on the table. I generally have lunch at the pub so eating out again is out of the question; I'm ready for
some home cooked food when I get home.
She used to do the dishes as soon as we finished eating. But now it's usual for them to sit on the table for several hours after dinner. I do what I can by diplomatically reminding her several times each evening that they won't clean themselves. I know she really appreciates this, as it does seem to motivate her to get them done before she goes to bed.
Another symptom of ageing is complaining. For example, she will say that it is difficult for her to do the shopping during her lunch hour. But we take them for better or worse, so I just smile and offer encouragement. I tell her to stretch it out over two or even three days. That way she won't have to rush so much. I also remind her that missing lunch completely now and then won't hurt her. I like to think
tact is one of my strong points.
When doing simple jobs, she seems to think she needs more rest periods. She has to take a rest when she has only half finished mowing the lawn and several extra breaks when she's vacuuming through the house. It does annoy me, vacuuming when I'm trying to watch my favorite program, but I try not to make a scene. I'm a fair man. I tell her to make herself a nice cup of tea and just sit for a while, and as long as
she is making one for herself, she may as well make one for me too.
I know that I probably look like a saint in the way I support Jean. I'm not saying that showing this much consideration is easy. Many men will find it difficult. Some will find it impossible! Nobody knows better than I do how frustrating women get as they get older. However, even if you just use a little more tact and less criticism of your ageing wife because of this article, I will consider that writing it was well worthwhile. After all, we are put on this earth to help each
other, eh?
EDITOR'S NOTE:
Ron died suddenly last week. He was found with a 24-inch Stanley screwdriver rammed up his butt with only 2 inches showing.
His wife Jean was arrested, but the all-woman jury accepted her defense that he accidentally sat on it.

WHAT A SHAME
Everybody that is on this mailing list is either a senior citizen,
is getting close or knows somebody that is.
Most of you know by now that the Senate version (at least) of the "stimulus" bill includes provisions for extensive rationing of health care for senior citizens. The author of this part of the bill, former senator and tax evader, Tom Daschle was credited today by Bloomberg with the following statement.
Bloomberg: "Daschle says health-care reform will not be pain free. Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them."
If this does not sufficiently raise your ire, just remember that Senators and Congressmen have their own health care plan that is first dollar or very low co-pay which they are guaranteed the remainder of their lives and are not subject to this new law if it passes.

Mini Jokes
Marriage is an institution in which a man loses his bachelor's degree and the woman gets her master's.
"It was just a simple misunderstanding, your Honor." Testified the man charged with indecent exposure. "Explain that statement!" Demanded the Judge. "Well, you see, this girl and I were drinking in a bar & she asked me what I wanted most in a woman, so I showed her."
Census Taker: "How many children do you have?"Redneck Woman: "Fo'."Census Taker: "May I have their names, please?"Redneck Woman: "Eenie, Meenie, Minie and George."Census Taker: "Okay, that's fine. But may I ask why you named your fourth child 'George'? "Redneck Woman: "Because we didn't want any Mo'."
"Grandpa, I'm really proud of you," said the modish young lady. "What's to be proud?" asked the old man. "I noticed that when you sneeze you've learned to put your hand in front of your mouth.""Of course," explained Grandpa. "How else can I catch my teeth?"
Why was the blonde upset when she got her Driver's License? Because she got an F in sex.

1965 Chevrolet TV Commercial
Maybe if we all went back to the good old days and our good old ways, life would be much better today. Yeah, I'm sure you young bucks are thinking, man, that sure was corny. We had longer commercials, better television programs and no cable or satellites. Sure, things were simpler but at least we weren't slammed with Viagra Commercials at dinner time or tampon commercials. Oh, guess what, we didn't have any side effects back in the 1960's either. Oh well, enjoy the commercial and we hope it brings back some fond memories.

A Humane Society Update
I had received an e-mail yesterday from a loyal reader asking what had happened to the Posts about the Humane Society. I had replied explaining how I speak to Linda Lugo on a regular basis and it was with great pleasure that I share the following. The Humane Society has been so overwhelmed with people coming in regularly that they cannot keep dogs in their inventory. Mind you, they do have dogs there to be adopted but because of the marketing of these animals on Salisbury News, people are going to the Humane Society to adopt an animal more so than going out and buying a dog at a puppy mill and so forth. I can assure you, as soon as the Humane Society gets a large amount of dogs in stock they'll be in contact with us and share photos so everyone can see what's available. Being that the Humane Society is an out of the way kind of place to go, it's tough to run a business where you arrive and there's next to nothing there.
Thank God and all of YOU, these animals are finding very loving homes and families. Do keep in mind, the Humane Society can always use your help. The animals there need daily walks and friendly faces to say hello. If you have the free time to volunteer please don't hesitate to contact them. They're closed on Sunday and Monday but here's their number (410-749-7603). I thought I'd share their response to my reply.
"Remarkable just won't cover it Joe. That is such wonderful news to hear!! Bet your readers would get as much pleasure out of hearing that update as I did!!
It amazed me by posting pics of & info about the animals on your site ---the marvelous response there was!! I couldn't wait to see how many pets had been adopted the next day when you were posting regularly.
One person truly can & HAS made a difference------------------I know the Humane Society will be forever grateful for the magnitude of help & hope you have given them & the homeless animals they have to deal with daily.
I personally want to thank you for the interest & concern you have shown . Encouraging people to get their new pets from the Humane Society ,or others that offer rescue homes, help stamp out the deplorable puppy mills & give a homeless animal the 2nd chance they so deserve. You have done just that!!
AS the ASPCA says , "We are their voice". ------ and-----You , Joe, have spoken well!!!!!"
