Maude, Golden Girls Actress Bea Arthur Dies

Actress Beatrice (Bea) Arthur, who starred in the popular Maude and Golden Girls TV series, has died at age 86, according to her family.

The gravelly-voiced performer won Emmys for her roles in both series, which were also critically acclaimed.

Arthur died peacefully at her Los Angeles home with her family at her side, family spokesman Dan Watt said. She had cancer, Watt said, but gave no other details.

"She was a brilliant and witty woman," said Watt, who was Arthur's personal assistant for six years.

The Few, The Proud, The MARINES!

While the journey from the Eastern Shore all the way to Paris Island and back seemed like a forever long one, it was nothing compared to the months Kyle spend in Basic Training. Of course I had a million questions to ask Kyle last night when they returned but instead I just let him tell us whatever he thought we might be interested in. I'll save my questions for another day.
His voice was horse and his days started every morning at 4:00 AM and they went to bed at 10:00 PM. Man, who'da ever thunk it! Kyle was one of those kids that loved to party all night and sleep till 3:00 PM, if you know what I mean.
He left a Boy and without any question about it he returned a Man. He was up at 4:00 AM this morning and had already run several miles. Jennifer got up this morning and found him in the front yard doing sit ups. Today is his day to shine. He asked to borrow one of the cars so he could go visit his Grandfather Art Goetz, also a Marine (now 80 years old) and the proudest man in Salisbury. I'm sure they're sharing war stories and completely understanding one and other.
You see, while Kyle was doing most of the talking last night, he seemed to be talking in code. The military has an abbreviation for just about everything. I didn't want to look stupid, (which I obviously was) so I just smiled. Jennifer grew up a Marine Brat, so she knew everything he was saying. I'm glad Kyle chose to go visit his Grandfather on his own because I would have been, huh, what?
Anyhow, we have him home for the next 10 days before he ships out to South Carolina again for more training. He told me last night that he wants to go overseas and see the world while he's young. Oh, the good old days! Well, we'll just have to enjoy it while we've got him because he belongs to the Marines now. Oh, we did give him a cold beer last night to cure that horse throat of his. Man, you should have seen the look on his face after that first sip. I'm telling you, it was that better than sex look!
God Bless The United States Marines and May God Bless This Young Man And Keep Him Safe.

The Salisbury Festival Isn't Just About Rides And Beer

The Downtown Plaza Is All About Arts & Crafts

Many were looking for shade this morning

The Taylors Were Selling Home Made Dog Treats For Brooke Mulford.
Their Daughter had already raised $100.00 after 1 hour

This young man was hand making pots while people watched

Parts of the sidewalks on the Plaza have Chalk Drawings

The crowd was pretty strong first thing this morning

Adam Roop fulfilled his promise and was the coolest person there

Wheels That Heal were VERY busy. It took quite a while to finally get an open shot of their Booth

Then there was the Marines!
If you haven't been out there yet, this is just a small example of hundreds of vendors. The Car Show down there today has over 140 cars in it and it really is a sight to see. Lots of ooohs and ahhhs. Remember Folks, it's FREE!
Come on out Barrie Tilghman and get on the Roop Dunking Booth. I'll pay $100.00 a shot to dunk you. The line would be the longest ever and it is all to support brain tumors. Can someone explain that to Barrie for me please. ;-)
Seriously though, it's a great time. Heck, you paid for it, get out there and enjoy it.

It's 90 Degrees In Maryland Folks!

Taken just a short while ago, can you believe your eyes? It's 90 Degrees out there Folks!

Be sure to get out to the Salisbury Festival and enjoy all the food and entertainment. I stopped out there this morning, shook a bunch of hands and said hello to a lot of people I hadn't seen in quite a while. It's always nice to do that.

I enjoyed hearing people express how they spoke with people visiting their Booths and saying they had no idea this Fundraiser or that fundraiser was going on but as soon as they read it on Salisbury News they came out to show their support. This is the most rewarding thing of all. People are going out of their way to show support and this was our main goal for 2009.

So thank you very much for doing this. I read a comment earlier today talking about how they read some information on Allenbank Nursery and they took the ride to check it out and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great Stuff!

Enjoy your day and maybe we'll see you at the Salisbury Festival later this afternoon or evening.

Special Bulletin-Off Campus Robbery

On April 24, 2009 at approximately 0355 hours, a Salisbury University student was robbed at the University Park Housing Complex. The suspect approached the victim from the rear, punched the victim in the side of the head. Two other suspects began to participate by punching the victim in the face and knocking the victim to the ground. Once on the ground, the suspects took the victim’s property, then fled the area in a\ silver colored vehicle.

The first suspect was described as an white male, approximately 6’0" tall, 160 lbs, with a goatee. No information on the two other suspects involved.

Anyone who may have information about this crime is asked to contact the Salisbury University Police Department: (410) 543-6222; or, report anonymously to Crime Solvers of the Lower Eastern Shore: (410) 548-1776.

I would like to remind our campus community that crimes can occur anywhere at anytime. Individuals should always be attentive to their surroundings, and remain alert to the potential ill-intent of others nearby. Please review and consider the following tips. Extra vigilance and caution is in order whenever you are out alone, away from crowds.

Street Robbery Tips:
1. Try to remain calm. Do not resist. Consider the robber dangerous.
2. In most cases, the robber only wants your valuables/money and is not there to hurt you.
3. Assume the robber is armed, even if you don't see a weapon.
4. If a weapon is displayed, consider it to be real and loaded.
5. Do only what the robber tells you. If you don't understand, tell the robber.
6. Attempt to get a good, complete description of the robber, - taking note of unique and unusual characteristics.
7. Your main goal is to survive!
8. Don't resist and fight with the assailant unless it is evident that your life is in danger! The most effective self defense measures include running away, hiding and screaming to draw the attention of others.
9. Remember--your valuables can be replaced, - your life can't.

Report any suspicious persons immediately to the police. If possible, use a cellular phone to call 911 while maintaining visual observation of the subject(s).

God Bless Our Wicomico County Sheriff's Deputies

It was some time around 4:30 PM on Friday, this Officer was on his way home from work and saw a vehicle stranded on the side of the road. They had a flat tire. Any more these days you might see an Officer sit in his vehicle with his lights flashing to make sure they're safe while the owner of the vehicle change their tire. Nope, not Sheriff's Deputy John Welch. He was right there on his knees changing that tire! My hat is tipped to you Sir and we're glad we took this photo so we can share with everyone just what you guys are all about.
Protect And Serve!

GOD ENJOYS A GOOD LAUGH!

There were 3 good arguments that Jesus was Black:
1. He called everyone brother
2. He liked Gospel
3. He didn't get a fair trial

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Jewish:
1. He went into His Father's business
2. He lived at home until he was 33
3. He was sure his Mother was a virgin and his Mother was sure He was God

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Italian:
1. He talked with His hands
2.. He had wine with His meals
3. He used olive oil

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was a Californian:
1. He never cut His hair
2. He walked around barefoot all the time
3. He started a new religion

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was an American Indian:
1. He was at peace with nature
2. He ate a lot of fish
3. He talked about the Great Spirit

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Irish:
1. He never got married.
2. He was always telling stories.
3. He loved green pastures.

But the most compelling evidence of all - 3 proofs that Jesus was a WOMAN:
1. He fed a crowd at a moment's notice when there was virtually no food
2. He kept trying to get a message across to a bunch of men who just didn't get it
3. And even when He was dead, He had to get up because there was still work to do

Can I get an AMEN!!
