Those were real jobs and dangerous at that. The windows in multistory buildings had hook on the outside of the window frames so that the window cleaners could clip their safety belts to it.
9:06 AM, not sure what OSHA would say today, but it is still a profession in big city's like NYC. Not me though, I am not that trusting of a person.
