Location of Incident: Middletown High School in Middletown, Delaware and the unit block of East Radisson Run in Clayton, Delaware
Date and Time of Occurrence: Various dates and times between 2005 through 2006
Suspect(s): Robert R. Schumacher, 39, of unit block of East Radisson Run in Clayton, Delaware
Resume: Earlier today, detectives from the Delaware State Police Major Crimes Unit arrested Middletown High School business teacher Robert R. Schumacher, 39, of Clayton for ten counts of Rape in the 4th degree.
This investigation revealed in late 2005, Schumacher befriended a then 17-year-old female student. The victim soon became a babysitter at the Schumacher residence and their relationship eventually turned physical. It has been alleged that sexual encounters took place between the two primarily at Schumacher’s home, but also once at school- in a classroom. Their relationship lasted approximately seven months.
The victim decided to come forward several months ago and report the incident. After an exhaustive investigation, warrants were completed and Schumacher voluntarily turned himself in to authorities today. He was released after posting a $25,000.00 secured bond.

This guy's life is ruined and you think it is funny Joe? Let me tell you that any male teacher better make sure that they are never alone with a female student. Anyone can accuse you of rape and you are guilty in the eyes of everyone. Joe you should know of the financial burden this guy is going to endure to try and prove himself not guilty. Suppose everyone just believed everything you've been charged with?

Nothing you or I say here is going to help this man and quite frankly, if the State Police have charged him and did a lengthy investigation, (as mentioned) he's toast. This girl was 17 at the time. The relationship was wrong but she knew what she was doing. It's important for people to realize that this guy has a family and friends and to start name calling and accusations when you don't know the whole story is immature. If a girl accused your friend/brother/uncle, etc of rape, you wouldn't be so quick to judge

sorry, i'm a teacher for 20 years. rule#1... a17 year old is a child. The man abused his position and gave all teachers a bad name. Assuming the story is true. He is the highly trained adult, don't forget.

This guy knew she was underage, and chose to engage in a physical relationship with her anyway. If you people believe that 17 is adult, you should lobby the legislature to change the age consent is possible...otherwise, any adult who engages in a sexual relationship with any person under the age of 18 is breaking the law. It does not matter how they dress, how they tantalize, how they tease. Period.
I have a problem with calling the girl a "victim." Clearly, he was wrong, given the age of the girl, but a "victim" she was not.!
There is nothing wrong with the Delmar, Delaware High school. Its a great school.
While the 17 yr old is NOT blameless and totally innocent,HE was the adult in the situation.He was the one who should have had better judgement and sadly he did not.I am presuming this girl did not have a father or a male role model and was seeking attention any way she could and he took advantage of the situation.
On a side note,we need to start doing our jobs as parents too.Why was a 17 yr old girl given enough freedom to get involved with a grown man? Fathers,be there for your girls,be fair but firm and support them so they do not crave negative attention from the opposite sex. Why do we let our daughters show so much skin and emulate the skanks they see on MTV?

This guy is a personal friend. I have known him for almost 20 years. Probably not an accurate accusation. Girl's dad is a cop. Good luck with this one. Justice is a determination, not the truth so this could be U G L Y.
Even if she were of age, he's married with children. He's wrong no matter how you look at it. She's wrong too, but that doesn't absolve him of anything.
Wow, I went to school there. This guy was a good teacher, a track coach, a father. It's hard to believe that he could be a felon. But that just goes to show I guess you can never be too careful these days. I don't know what to think. I worked with him on fundraising stuff and he seemed perfectly normal. I know a lot more people are affected by his decisions than he probably thinks.
WOW... this guy still teaches at Middletown High school he is a cross country coach.. he came to my middleschool to get recruits... this is some sick shit... ugh .. im scared... how could they let him stay a teacher there...
