Thank You Delmar Fire Department
Today was a pretty wild day at the Albero Ranch. Some how, some way, our two horses found a way to remove a stockade gate off the post and took off for the hills. A woman pulled up in our driveway explaining to my Wife that two horses were running down Rt. 54 and she thought she had recognized them from our property.
My Wife knew I had just fed them and then I left for Salisbury and when she looked around the pasture and then the paddock area, they were gone. She then saw the gate lying on the ground and the next thing I knew I was getting a frantic call for help.
I immediate came back to Delmar and she had already been driving around looking for the horses but she had no luck. I also drove around quite a bit and couldn't find them. I called the Delmar Fire Department and asked if they had anyone out and about, could they keep their eyes open for two horses on the loose.
I finally pulled down a neighbors long driveway and asked if they had seen a couple of horses and a guy standing there said, yeah, they were just behind my home off of Rt. 54.
To make a long story short, with the help of the Delmar Fire Department and neighbors we were able to locate the horses about 2 miles from our home hanging out with a family eating grass on the side of the road. Man, you talk about some proud horses too! They were standing there like they had just won the Kentucky Derby. We had to park our vehicles on the side of the road and walk these two pain in the a$$es back two miles across plowed corn fields and once we got them back in and secured the gate forever, they stood there banging their hooves on the gate thinking, woo ho, we're gonna do this again. NOT!
After everyone was secure I made a trip up to Sam's Club and then Dunkin Doughnuts and made sure these fine men and women were taken care of for their efforts. I tried getting one of those monster round subs Sam's Club makes but they didn't have any. The doughnuts were the next best thing. Thanks Again Delmar Fire Department for all your help.

Joe, an announcement was just made on the dispatch radio to the members of Station 7 (Pittsville Fire Department) is having a covered dish dinner tonight and steamed crabs and shrimp will be provided? Where did they get the money to buy steamed crabs and steamed shrimp to give to their members free of charge? If they accept county money from the tax payers then they shouldn't be providing free shrimp and crabs to anyone. These are some tough times and they are stealing from the tax payers of Wicomico County."

What Is The Fate Of The Old Station 16
Right now the facility is being used by K-9 Police Dog Training. Many have inquired about its future buy the Tilghman Administration refuses to answer. My Father In Law suggested it be used as a Children's Library, probably the best suggestion to date. So why would it be excused as a great idea? Because the Mayor wants a new Downtown Mall like Rockville with a Library built in.
Does anyone else have any good ideas for this facility we may not have heard of yet?

More On The Daily Slime
"Joe
Lotsa luck with ending the Daily Times delivery! We pay by check and refused to send a new check when our subscription ended. We wrote two notes (one on the bill and the other on the bill reminder) that we were not renewing our subscription. The paper continued to come after our "last day." Not wanting something I hadn't paid for, I called the Times. Someone in the circulation department told me that when I refused to renew, my account went into a group called, "collection by carrier." The carrier had then become responsible for collecting from me. How unfair can you get? I said the carrier could not be made responsible for collecting a debt for something I had told the Times I did not want. I said that was illegal. OK, the Times stopped for about two weeks. Then I got a paper in the mailbox and a phone call, "This is the Times. Our computer tells us you just got back from your vacation and wanted your paper to start up again today. I'm calling to make sure your paper arrived." Of course, I had not been on vacation, had never said I wanted service to resume. So I explained for the tenth time that we did not want the paper but left it that I will not pay for another DT, and I advised them not to leave any more. Guess what? The paper still comes on a sporadic basis; I got one today."
OK, so this morning I went to get my paper and wouldn't you believe, it's as small as Saturdays! That's it, I'm done with them. My subscription is over. Like sale ads are supposed to make me happy.

How To Own & Run A City
I'll make this short and sweet. In Salisbury, the Queen and her leading pet devised a plan to FINE Students for noise ordinances rather than arrest them. Interesting how those charges have skyrocketed while the Queen makes $500.00 a pop and no court costs or legal fees. Nice scam.
Now, let's move to Ocean City. Rather than it being an arrestable offense to have an open container, they too chose the money route and from what I'm told they had more than 2,000 charges for such an offense last summer.
While municipalities aren't supposed to make a profit, Ocean City and the City of Salisbury have found ways to draw in a small fortune with no overhead. Maybe the Daily Times should do more research on this issue and tell a balanced story for once. I can't wait till I get the official numbers from Ocean City because it should blow everyone away.

A Letter To The Wall Street Journal
This is a letter sent to the Wall Street Journal on August 8, 2008. It synthesizes the beliefs of many people. Reason is disappearing from our country.
8-8-08
On July 31, 2008, the Wall Street Journal had an article titled, 'Where's the Outrage?' Really! I can tell you where the outrage is.. The outrage is here, in this middle-aged, well-educated, upper-middle class woman. The outrage is here, but I have no representation, no voice. The outrage is here, but no-one is listening for who am I?
I'm not a billionaire like George Soros who can fund an entire political movement. I'm not a celebrity like Barbra Streisand who can garner the attention of the press to promote political candidates. I'm not a film maker like Michael Moore or Al Gore who can deliver misleading movies to the public. The outrage is here, but unlike those with money or power, I don't know how to reach those who feel similarly in order to effect change.
Why am I outraged? I am outraged that my country, the United States of America , is in a state of moral and ethical decline. There is no right or wrong anymore, just what's fair. Is it fair that millions of Americans who overreached and borrowed more than they could afford are now being bailed out by the government and lending institutions to stave off foreclosure? Why shouldn't these people be made to pay the consequences for their poor judgment?
When my husband and I purchased our home, we were careful to purchase only what we could afford. Believe me, there are much larger, much nicer homes that I would have loved to have purchased. But, taking responsibility for my behavior and my life, I went with the house that we could afford, not the house that we couldn't afford. The notion of personal responsibility has all but died in our country.
I am outraged that the country that welcomed my mother as an immigrant from Hitler's Nazi Germany and required that she and her family learn English now allows itself to be overrun with illegal immigrants and worse, caters to those illegal immigrants. I am outraged that my hard-earned taxes help support those here illegally; that the Los Angeles Public School District is in such disarray that I felt it incumbent to
send my child to private school; that every time I go to the ATM, I see 'do you want to continue in English or Spanish?', that every time I call the bank, the phone company, or similar businesses, I hear 'press 1 for English or press 2 for Spanish'. WHY? This is America , our common language is English and attempts to promote a bi or multi-lingual society are sure to fail and to marginalize those who cannot communicate in English.
I am outraged at our country's weakness in the face of new threats on American traditions from Muslims. Just this week Tyson's Food negotiated with its union to permit Muslims to have Eid-al-Fitr as a holiday instead of Labor Day. What am I missing??? Yes, there is a large Somali Muslim population working at the Tyson's plant in Tennessee. Tennessee , the last I checked, is still part of the United States .
If Muslims want to live and work here they should be required to live and work by our American Laws and not impose their will on our long history. In the same week, Random House announced that they have indefinitely delayed the publication of 'The Jewel of Medina' by Sherry Jones, a book about the life of Mohammed's wife Aisha due to fear of retribution and violence by Muslims. When did we become a nation ruled by fear of what other immigrant groups want? It makes me so sad to see large
corporations cave rather than stand proudly on the principles that built this country.
I am outraged because appeasement has never worked as a political policy, yet appeasing Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is exactly what we are trying to do. An excellent article, also published recently in the Wall Street Journal, went through over 20 years of history and why talking with Iran has been and will continue to be ineffective. Yet talk, with a madman no less, we continue to do. Have we so lost our moral compass and its ability to detect evil that we will not go in and destroy Iran 's nuclear program? Would we rather wait for another Holocaust for the Jews, one which they would be unlikely to survive? When does it end?
As if the battle for good and evil isn't enough, now come the environmentalists who are so afraid of global warming that they want to put a bag tax on grocery bags in California; to eliminate Mylar balloons; to establish something as insidious as the recycle police in San Francisco. I do my share for the environment, I recycle, I use water wisely, I installed an energy efficient air conditioning unit. But, when and where does the lunacy stop? Ahmadinejad wants to wipe Israel off the map, the California economy is being overrun by illegal immigrants, and the United States of America no longer knows right from wrong; good from evil. So what does California do? Tax grocery bags. So, America , although I can tell you where the outrage is, this one\ middle-aged, well-educated, upper middle class woman is powerless to do
anything about it. I don't even feel like my vote counts because I am so outnumbered by those who disagree with me.

A Letter To The Editor
"A few years ago, when dvds were first appearing on the shelves, video stores were selling their VHS tapes to the general public for very little money. Well, my library became swollen with many of my favorite movies...Seven, The Sixth Sense, Out of Africa, Gone with the Wind, The Godfather, I,II,& III. Shawshank Redemption, Jacobs Ladder, Contact...& many more. That's what I love to do in the winter. Watch a good movie. To find one has become a rarity nowadays. It seems Hollywood can only come up with an overabundance of violence and sex and redos of the older really good stuff most of which contains hollywoods political stance of the day. Recently, we watched the latest movie about Robert Kennedy and you only have to change the names to reflect current day politics and news headlines. Little has changed.
The real gem we came across was about the beginning of the Viet Nam war. You remember, the war we weren't having. It took place in a prison, the infamous Hoa Lo prison, later dubbed The Hanoi Hilton and was about the first prisoner, one Everett Alvarez, who was shot down over North Vietnam. Over the next decade, hundreds of others were detained in this Hell hole, including John McCain. Forty one years ago on October 26, 1967 Senator McCain was shot down and captured and remained in this prison for five and a half years. How any of them survived was nothing short of miraculous.
The Vietnamese Commander demoralized the men in many ways, but the first was to claim there was no war since none had been declared and that they were criminals and not subject to any "rules of engagement". (The torture came later.) The men were held in solitary confinement, but devised ways to communicate and boost one another through this contact just so they could survive.
The commander stated that the real war was being fought in America at the universities in Berkley, Ca. and Chicago, Il. (Ayers) and New York, N.Y. and in the "Mall" in D.C.(the protests and the later "Million Man" march effected by Louis Fahrracon.) He stated that the media would eventually be determinate in America's presidential elections and how the South American and other dictators could prevail thru media interference. There were examples of our very own "Hanoi Jane " and the "documentary crews" sent to interview the men. And America could do nothing to help them since we were not at war, yet the media was allowed to shape the outcome. They should have been ashamed. As they should be ashamed, now! Amazing how "all this" today could be so evident as early as 1987 and coming from Hollywood of all places.
It is my wish that this movie be shown all across the nation in time slots opposite Obama's bought half hour sometime next week or at least before the election. It runs a little over 2 hours and would be well worth sitting thru the commercials it would require to air. (Wish I knew how to get that going.)
"The Hanoi Hilton"... Watch it! You won't regret it. It could shape your thoughts regarding the election.
As Governor Palin states, "There's only one man running who's ever really fought for you..." And tomorrow is the 41'st anniversary of his capture."
