Nature At Its Best On Asateague Island


Our friend Dennis took this picture recently of a funnel cloud on Assateague Island.

  1. aka "water spout" nothing short of a mini tornado, formed over water they usually disapate when they get to land. A few yrs ago, in this same spot, the bull pen, we saw 7 water spouts over the bay, one grew as it came to shore, passed threw the bull pen, ripped off license plates, cooler lids, hurled fire wood, it turned over a truck and camper next to us that couldnt get out of its way soon enough. The twister was more than 150yrds wide at ground level and dense with hot sand and debree.....quite horrific at 7am..

    I don't know about ALL the details, but from my sources the camper/truck getting bowled over is true. The rest of the details (i.e. 7 spouts, 150yrds) i'm not sure about.

  4. Dammit those things scare the crap out of me. It's really the only thing I've had nightmares about from childhood to now. (Well, the clown from "IT" but who itsn't still scared of that thing? LOL)

  7. 10:43am....your the one full a shat!...I was there, and the camper next to me got blown over, I have polaroids to prove it, if it wasnt for the back road it would have gotten most of us there that sunday morning about 7 r 8 yrs ago, ask the park service, they sent a ranger down the back road 75mph to warn us,he almost made it in time....the bullpen used to be 150yrds and bowl shaped.
