Are You A Democrat, Republican, Or Southerner?

Here is a little test that will help you decide.

Granddad Speaks Out On Duvall's Turkey Of The Year Poll

"What a friggin' SCAM. I looked at the poll over at Duvafiles for "Turkey of the Year" and guess what. I voted for Louise Smith and Joes numbers went up as well! I couldn't believe what I was seeing so out of curiosity, I voted for Louise AGAIN. Joes numbers went up AGAIN! Joe's numbers are connected to Louise's - AND you can vote the Democrat way - you know- as often as you want! (just a small political joke....don't get your panties bunched up)

Seriously..how misleading is that?!?!? What a JOKE!"


Whatever makes Old Man Duvall feel good Granddad. His numbers calculate about as well as Comegys adds. I tried what you are saying and when I did it, I voted for Louise just to see what would happen and her numbers jumped 9 times once, 12 times the next time and 20 times the following, all within 30 seconds. There's no question the Poll is fixed. Oh well, if only Billy would pay a few dollars to get a real poll. You know lawyers and their money, they're not going to part with it. Not that I blame him. It would have been nice to see a fair Poll though and to those I spoke with about this already, they all agree. It has taken away from the fun of it, yet my hits are up today. YAHOO!

"Andy Harris For Congress Campaign Calls On Gilchrest To Denounce Negative Special Interest Attack Ads"


Annapolis - Today, State Senator Andy Harris' congressional campaign called on Wayne Gilchrest to denounce the negative attack ads released last week by a Washington, DC based liberal special interest group.

The League of Conservation Voters endorsed Gilchrest on Monday, and then launched a barrage of negative attack ads on Wednesday against Andy on both broadcast and cable. The ad buy totaled over $40,000.


"Gilchrest should demand these liberal special interest attack ads cease immediately," said Chris Meekins, Harris for Congress Campaign Manager. "If this group fails to stop the ads, Gilchrest should denounce their support and disclose exactly how these ads are funded."


In response to the endorsement of this liberal special interest group, Gilchrest stated he was "honored to receive" their support (Star Democrat 11/6/2007). "This proves once again, Gilchrest has changed. In previous elections, Gilchrest stated, 'I think the whole country would be better off without the influence of political action committees'(Kent County News, 1993)," said Meekins, "but now that he's facing his toughest reelection ever, Gilchrest is willing to put his reelection interests ahead of the interests of his constituents."


"We elected Wayne Gilchrest to change Washington, but it's clear by the support he's getting from liberal special interest groups that Washington changed Wayne Gilchrest," concluded Meekins.


In the 2006 election cycle, the liberal League of Conservation Voters was fined over $180,000 for violating federal campaign election laws.

Martin O’Malley Spooks Marylanders With Gas Tax Hike

Gas Tax Would Rise Automatically Every Year

ANNAPOLIS – Just in time for Halloween, O’Malley administration officials today spooked Marylanders with a proposal to raise the gasoline tax every year for the rest of their lives.

Currently, Maryland state government has a 23.5-cents per gallon tax on gasoline. Under the O’Malley Gas Tax Hike, the gas tax would go up to 24-cents per gallon and would be indexed to increase automatically every year with no end in sight. Governor O’Malley had proposed indexing the gasoline tax to one of the fastest growing indexes available – the Construction Cost Index. The state gasoline tax is in addition to the federal gasoline tax, which the Democrat Congress is also looking to increase.

Dr. Jim Pelura, Chairman of the Maryland Republican Party, released the following statement:

“Martin O’Malley redefined ‘trick or treat’ today. He is pushing tax tricks for Maryland families and sweet treats to pay back his special interests. O’Malley’s tax trick today was to convince Marylanders that they need to pay more at the gas pump. Fortunately, Marylanders are seeing through these tax tricks and making their voices known. ‘No more taxes’ is the universal chant.

“What’s worse is that O’Malley wants to pass legislation that would require the gas tax to increase every year forever without having to justify why the tax needs to go up. Where is the accountability or the transparency in such a plan? O’Malley is telling Marylanders he just wants their money, but does not want to explain why he wants it. For those visiting Annapolis today, beware of tax monsters picking your pockets. They have been spotted throughout the day.”

Yes Men Are Becoming Few & Far Between


I told you the City was running ads once again for a new Director for the Salisbury Zoo. Obviously when the Mayor said jump, these guys said, up yours. Homey don't play that game.

So off they go again in search for someone who will not only be a yes man/woman, they will have to deal with an aging inventory, a multitude of non qualified Zookeepers who are either way too small to do the job or way too lazy because Rapp never used to walk the grounds and keep an eye on things there.

The Zoo needs another Mike Lewis, as does the Police Department, the Fire Department, the Mayors Office and many other facilities. Yes Men don't cut it and that's exactly what got this Mayor in so much trouble in the first place. This is going to get very interesting!

What Does The Future Hold For The Old Mall?



As the old mall comes crashing down, the owners are in a major jam when it comes to the critical developer backing out of the deal. That being said, what's to be done with it? Should the Council pull the TIF? Can the Council pull the TIF?

I have some ideas for the property. First and foremost, relocate the Zoo there. Relocate and replace the Civic Center. If the City and County want to relocate, this would be a perfect location for them to do so. Relocate the Sheriff's Department there as well.

One other major idea I have for that location is, SLOTS! That's right. Why the hell would you want to have SLOTS in Ocean Downs. If you had a central location like this one you could gain traffic from Virginia, Delaware, west of Salisbury and Ocean City. It's a perfect location for a business like that and it would bring tons of economic & development to the area.

Look, SLOTS are coming, there's no changing that now. I say the City/County needs to get their horse into this race and start jockeying for a position where SLOTS are concerned. You couldn't ask for a better location!

No Council Meeting Tonight


Not that some of our paid Council Members are there anyway???? The Council Meeting will be tomorrow night instead.

The Red Wolf Exhibit at the Salisbury Zoo in now years behind schedule and the sign you see above was put up somewhere near 3 years ago, (if not longer) to let people know when they can expect to see these new animals. I'm sure the Hazel Family is pulling their hair out wondering what happened to all their money. I believe they donated at least $250,000.00 towards this Exhibit and it's still not complete.

It's no wonder they asked Rapp to leave as well as Jacobs. The City can play their leaving off as if they had better offers but let me assure you, they were forced out along with others because they were worthless and this is yet another perfect example. Jacobs couldn't tie Rapp's shoes and Rapp couldn't tie Jacob's shoes. My guess is that the Hazel Family had a lot to do with these two Idiots being gone?

Ron Alessi continues to look like an Idiot as yet another project under his belt drags along, just like all the others have in the past. Remember Folks, Ron Alessi is the guy that SUED the City because they refused to give him construction contracts at the Zoo. Do YOU think it had anything to do with his HISTORY of being in charge of OTHER delayed contracts he's been involved with in the past?

The City/County Is Tighter Than A Ducks Ass & That's Waterproof!


Look at this years Christmas Tree! If you're going to get that tight, why not buy a real tree and simply grow it in that location? Talk about a midget of a tree! How could we NOT bring this up?

Now understand one thing here. I am certainly pleased that there is in fact a tree here to start with. However, if you're going to be one of the highest crime Cities in America, if you're going to have one of the grandest Fire Stations in the entire World, if you're going to blow money on TIF's, Developer Reimbursements, County Parks and the whole nine yards, the least you could do is give SOMETHING back to those Taxpayers that took it up the you know what to get you there!

The Christmas Trees that have been there in the past seemed to be twice this size? Where did you get this one, China or Japan?

Congressional Candidate Andy Harris On Veterans Day & Slots

Before I talk about what's been going on in Annapolis, let me say a few words about today, the day we celebrate Veteran's Day. It is the day we should all remember those who wore the uniform to protect this nation, and have fought to preserve our rights. Among those rights is the right to free speech - even the right to blog! We should each pause to thank those who served. One way to thank veterans of the current war is a great new organization that has formed in Maryland - Operation Welcome Home www.operationwelcomehomemd.org. This organization greets soldiers, sailors, and airmen at BWI Airport as they return home from overseas. They greet them with signs, care packages, and welcoming smiles. If you cannot join this group at the airport, I encourage you to visit their website to see how you can help our newest veterans in other ways.


I am thankful for the opportunity I have had to serve our country in uniform. After I joined the US Naval Reserve in 1988 and founded (and commanded) the Johns Hopkins Naval Reserve Medical Unit, my unit was activated to serve at Bethesda Naval Hospital during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Even though my active service lasted only 7 months, I was proud to provide medical care for the men and women of our armed forces who served both at home and abroad.

Now on to what happened in Annapolis this past week. The Senate passed what is far and away the largest tax increase in Maryland history. Senator Pipkin, Colburn, Stolzfus, and I took to the floor many times to point out how harmful these new taxes would be - especially to the Eastern Shore. But the Democrat majority under Senate President Mike Miller - like the tax-and-spend Democrats in Washington - just plain don't care. They're professional tax increasers, and that's just what they did. $1.6 billion in new taxes, an overall tax increase of 11%.

As if that wasn't enough, they also added a $600-$900 million new health care spending program, but only made $220 million dollars (less than 1%) in permanent cuts out of the bloated state budget. All in all, a terrible week for Marylanders.

Even O'Malley's slots bill was a disappointment. It was very different from the Ehrlich bill in the past. For instance, this bill named specific locations like Ocean Downs (where the local officials oppose slots), and even cut the amount going to support the horse
industry to a paltry 6% of the profits. Wasn't that one of the main reasons for the bill in the first place? It seems that the slots parlor owners got way too good a deal in this bill. And I have always felt so strongly about local control over where to place a slots
parlor that I couldn't vote for O'Malley's bill. Maybe it will change for the better when it comes back from the House of Delegates. As it is now, it would be better to wait for the regular session (in less than two months), and to get it right, than to go with this bill.
